Dancing With The Stars 15 – Week 6 – Recap and Videos

It’s Country week on Dancing With the Stars. The All-Stars will each dance a solo. I’ll be liveblogging the show here!

SORRY! I had a mad scramble looking for the channel where DWTS was airing. The ABC affiliate in Boston is sticking with storm coverage. The first 10 minutes are a big fat fail, but I’m on the correct channel now.

This week’s country week is the perfect way to pimp Thursday’s CMA awards broadcast!  Sabrina and Louis are at the top of the leaderboard tonight, but I’m not convinced they are popular enough with viewers to win the whole thing.  Personally, I’m rooting for Gilles and Peta. Eye candy, people!

Oh. Little Big Town performed “Pontoon”. I missed it…but here it is

Gilles and Peta – Cha Cha Cha – “Man I Feel Like a Woman” OMG Giles is in a tight tight tight pair of patent pants! and a VERY low cut leotard top. I’m glad he’s got enough confidence to be flamboyant. That was reaaallly sexy. Len says, “You come out and give it 100 percent. A little bit loose in the legs, but well done.” Bruno says, “I don’t know what country that was, but I want to visit. Sexy, Kinky. You are ready for center stage.” Carrie Ann (she’s tied to her chair ha ha) “I thought it was so sexy and so creative. Watch your hands.” Gilles shout out to the East coast! Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Bruno – 9.5 – 27.584 out of 90 – 1-800-868-3410

Sabrina and Louis – Rumba – “Wanted” by Hunter Hays – The song plays out a storyline from Sabrina’s life. Her boyfriend was addicted to drugs. I love Louis’s choreography on this number–gorgeous, passionate yet also intricate and delicate. Very nice! Bruno says, “Wonderful. Really was. Stunning. It had an emotional thread runnning through it.” Carrie Ann gives Sabrina a big hug. Everyone is hugging! “This is the true beauty of dance. You were dancing from the heart.” Len says, “Lovely balance to it. Wonderful choreography.” Both Sabrina and Louis are teary. – Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 30! 88.5 out of 90. Another shoutout to the East coast. – 1-800-868-3403

Kelly and Val – Tango – “Good Girl” by Carrie Underwood – Kelly was the first winner. Her season was only 6 weeks long. “I’m in uncharted territory now,” she says.  Much better than last week!  The duo dance at a quick pace and don’t miss a beat. Kelly looks really worried. The pair’s were low last week. Carrie says, ‘Nice comeback. Today huge shift. Back to the good side of things.” Len says, “A little bit hectic, but you kept it under control.” Bruno, “So intense, so pretty. You did it my darling. You are back in the game big time. What a come back.” It’s the furthest Val has ever made it in the show! Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Bruno – 9 – 2778.5 out of 90 – 1-800-868-3411

Melissa and Tony – Viennese Waltz – “Why You Wanna” by Janna Kramer – After rehearsal, her neck began hurting again. Tony wants to know if she wants to drop out. That’s not what she said! The doctor said she’ll continue to hurt. Tony hasn’t seen a 10 since the last time he danced with Melissa. The solo comes first. Very balletic. The waltz made it easy to work around Melissa’s stiff neck. VERY pretty performance. Len gives the routine a standing ovation, “You’ve got the how and you’ve got the wow.” Bruno says, “…solo was absolutely exquisite. Fluid, beautiful extensions.” Carrie Ann says, “You have the most beautiful lines….but you aren’t dancing out enough.” The other judges disagree. Bruno becomes VERY animated arguing with Carrie Ann. He thinks that sometimes expression needs to be internalized. Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 29.586 out of 90 – 1-800-868-3406

Next week the All Stars will perform “fusion” dances. They will pick the dances for each other tomorrow night.

Shawn and Derek – Cha Cha Cha – “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” by Kenny Chesney – Something is bothering Shawn! Oh. She hurt her knee in group dance last week. She’s playing the stoic athlete. Derek orders her to sit down. “I’ve messed up again.” Is Derek agreeing with her? Geez. She’s hopping around the stage as if nothing is wrong with her knee. A similar injury sidelined her from the latest Olympics. WHOA MAJOR BUMPING AND GRINDING RIGHT THRERE. Shawn is becoming comfortable with the sexy. Bruno says, “You are the sexy one. Working it! What happened to you? Fantastic.” He loved the melding of country step and Cha cha cha. Carrie Ann says, “You finish every move, you make me insane. The solo was stiff, but you still were fantastic.” Len says, “I thought the choreography was fantastic, movement was brilliant. But too much frippery, too many gimmicks. I don’t want tractors I don’t want cows.” Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 8.5, Bruno – 10 – 2884.5 out of 90 – 1-800-868-3402

Kirstie and Maks – Rumba – “Home” by Blake Shelton – The two are hanging out at Kirstie’s house. She’s got a big ass house–they rehearse in what looks like a ballroom. Kirstie is tired and cranky. Oh Barbara Walters is interviewing Kirstie about her new book this week.  The thing about Kirstie and Maks is that they have fantastic chemistry. Kirstie’s ability to act out a song overcomes her physical shortcomings. This was a very passionate, if not perfect rumba. Carrie Ann says, “You are the queen of sexy. Passionate rumba. You got lost in it.” Len says, “You have very expressive arms. Very clear, clean and classy. I would have liked more hip action.” Bruno says, “I think that was the expression of the gorgeousness of a real woman. You can tell a story with your little finger. Carrie Ann – 9.5, Len – 8.5, Bruno – 9.5 – 27.580 out of 90 – 1-800-868-3412

Apolo and Karina – Viennese Waltz – “Sara Beth” by Rascal Flatts – Ohh. They had a fight before their dance last week. That’s why they were off. Karina says he has to open up, or there’s no dance. There needs to be a connection. Apolo has overcome his reticence, greatly aided by Karina who is dancing beautifully. She plays a woman with cancer who only feels safe in the arms of her lover. The emotional content of the song should help their scores. Len says, “It was light, had great musicality, perfect harmony with each other. I loved it.” Brno says, “You are a leading man. You were graceful, weightless. Excellent. You involvement the best I’ve ever seen.” Carrie Ann says, “That was poetry in motion. So nice to see you guys connected that way. I’m so proud of you. This was your break through number.” Apolo invited people from The City of Hope – Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 30!86.5 out of 90 – 1-800-868-3407

Emmitt and Cheryl – Fox Trot – “Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton and Kenny Chesney. Emmitt is intimidated by the solo. Emmitt’s solo was the best thing about that routine. His hitch kick was so fun. But the Fox trot itself could have been smoother. Bruno says, “At times you lost a couple of passes, but it was a country fun fair.” Carrie Ann says, “When you came down the stairs you were off time, but the solo was good.” Len says, “It lacked a bit of finesse, but it was so entertaining.” Carrie Ann – 8.5, Len – 8.5 , Bruno – 9.5 – 26.582.5 out of 90.

Freestyle Side By Side Group Dance! – Big and Rich is on hand to sing “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” – Special country choreographers come in to teach the team a routine. Gilles arrives late, looking like something out of the Village People, with leather and fringes. Uh oh. Shawn hurt herself again. Poor Kirstie can barely keep up. Gilles, Kelly and Sabrina were really good. Len says, “That was fun.” “Fully loaded country extravaganza”, Carrie Ann says, “Sabrina, Gilles and Kelly–I thought your solos were the best.” Kirstie and Maks are awarded 2 extra points. Because it was fun? Hm.

Sabrina and Louis – 90
Apolo and Karina – 86.5
Melissa and Tony – 86
Shawn and Derek – 84.5
Gilles and Peta – 84
Emmett and Cheryl – 82.5
Kirstie and Maks – 82
Kelly and Val – 78.5
