I posted a link to this video in headlines a few days ago, but I only got a chance to sit down and watch this preview from Casey Abrams of his upcoming self-titled album.  Recording in both Los Angeles and London studios, there are clips of Casey working on  several tunes, including his “Hit the Road Jack” duet with Haley Reinhart.

The songs are breezy, jazzy pop songs, that are unmistakably from the super-quirky mind and soul of Casey Abrams. I really like what I hear and will be downloading the album when it comes out on June 26. Check it out if you have not already.

I was hoping you would take a look at this vid MJ–glad u liked it! I have pre-ordered the album and can’t wait to get it. I loved Casey since I first saw him on the show –my all time fave contestant. I like quirky, I like jazz, I like musicians and I like folks who have a sense of humor. I like that he doesn’t give a shit if people like his beard or his hair etc. I think it’s also cool that so many former idols on twitter from different seasons jam with him and seem to love the guy

Working with drummer Steve Jordan is quite a big deal. The Caley duet is going to be pretty damn amazing. Wouldn’t it be cool if HTRJ could make top 40 radio. I know there is very little chance of it–but would love to see a jazz standard get some contemporary radio play.

I really enjoy everything I have heard so far–the song Blame It On Me–awesome. The only one I am not crazy about is Get Out–and that’s due to the poppy arrangement. Acoustic version on you tube–is so much better IMO. Wish they used  Blame It on Me as his first single. I don’t get the logic in that decision.

I have no idea how it will sell or what marketing they are going to do for him. I am hoping that word of  mouth over time will propel this album to some decent sales. I hope he beats the odds. He is a good guy and a big talent

It is nice to be supportive of an artist on an indie label as the expectations for sales are low as opposed to the expectations when you are signed to a major label. If Casey happens to sell higher than it will be an unexpected surprise. I think this label is a very good fit for Casey.

Thanks MJ for giving this another chance to be seen.  I love this clip and have watched it several times.  My favorite of his songs is Midnight Girl, of which there is no clip on this video but is available on YouTube for viewing.  Also one called Great Bright Morning, which I find myself singing often.  I’ve pre-ordered my copy and look forward to following his career regardless of how mainstream he may or may not become.  I love Casey’s vibe and personality.

From the little I’ve seen, there isn’t a single trace of jazz yet :(

idk how well his album will do, I also tend to be pessimistic when it comes to Idol alum sales nowadays, but I might grab a copy myself. :)

No just realistic based on the reality of similar albums by similarly placed Idols.

    Sounds interesting.

The focus on sales numbers kind of sickens me.  I like ALOT of music that hasn’t sold as well as the stuff in the Top 40.  In fact, much of my favorite music now was released years ago and I had never even heard of it at the time.  As many have said, being with an indie label Casey probably doesn’t have huge sales expectations.  I’m just hoping that there are at least a few songs on his new CD that I can fully enjoy.

I liked Casey on Idol, but I really liked him best when he sang with Haley. Was curious however and gave this preview a listen. I knew Casey has talent, but the songs are so fresh and original and exceeded my expectations; definitely worth a buy.

I hope he continues to collab with his friend Haley on occasion and others as well, but his solos are awesome. Maybe Haley’s songs will grow on me, but haven’t purchased her CD. Would have preferred something closer to an Amy W. vibe. :(

i like how his songs were produced. It sounds good. will give it a listen when it’s available.
I wish he would trim the hair and beard, I don’t find his look very ‘in’ to be honest .. just my opinion :)

My son in law looks just like Casey and if you think Casey’s beard is bad you should see my son in law’s!

Kinda like his hippie dippie hair though (Casey is from the mountains and looks the part:).

    MJ, thank you for this!

I loved the video and liked every clip very much. I didn’t hear jazz, however, except in Haley’s voice – she should make a jazz record. And I wish they had chosen another song for their duet. I could buy this album, if it’ll be available here. I could imagine buying Haley’s album also, but I need to listen to at least a couple of tunes first. Can someone give me a short review or some comments on what kind of music there is on the album?

As for Casey and Haley together, I had to dig up this fantastic duet of theirs on AI:

    That’s JAZZ!
Concord is a very good label. I don’t know about their marketing etc.

I wish both Casey and Haley a lot of success and all good things in life. Enjoyed them very much last year on AI and would have wanted Haley to win – and I was happy Casey made it even as far as he did. A great guy.

I like what I’m hearing so far. I wish him the best in making it in the tough music business.

Casey and Haley are the only 2 from Season 10 that I would pay money to see.

     I’m buying for sure!

I an buying it too! I am actually looking forward to his album. He is the only one I was planing to buy from season 10 and thats saying a lot.
After watching this video, I like what I am hearing. Great stuff.

I think Concord was a perfect label for him. Maybe they will do some good promo. He totally deserves it, this is high quality material.
I think if Casey gets managed well he could stand out in the tough music business out there and breakthrough. Here´s hoping. Good luck Casey!

I wonder how much straight jazz the label would allow on his cd? This is an awesome little clip Casey uploaded from a session in London–it’s jazz.

I have no idea whether the label put it on his cd. I am sure that Casey wanted to include straight jazz on the album–but at this point it’s not really in his hands. He’s only 21–plenty of time for it all to happen

Concord is a jazz label, so I assume they have a whole bunch of albums in release that are “straight jazz”. Maybe Casey didn’t want to go that direction?

    Those songs sound really good.

I think he looks way cuter with a closer-cropped haircut.
