Carrie Underwood, Danny Gokey, and 40 other country artists visited St. Judes Hospital on Friday (Jan. 15) as part of the annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids radio seminar.

More than 650 members of the country music industry—from artists to record label executives to radio stations—gathered in Memphis, Tennessee, this week to kick off a new season of fundraising on behalf of St. Jude.

After the jump, check out short clips of Carrie and Danny discussing  their involvement with the organization.

I think that it’s really nice that Danny and Carrie are visited St. Judes. Hopefully they will raise a lot of money for this charity.

Good on Danny and Carrie to help raise funds for St. Judes.

They’re a good combo together – I’d love to see them tour together.

It’s definitely a great event and I think the artists who participate get as much if not more out of it than the kids. You can hear how much it means to Carrie to be there in her video. I’m just grateful there are places like this.

St Jude’s posted more pictures from this event. Today I guess they are having the seminar portions to help radio station / media people prepare for fundraising on behalf of St. Jude’s. Believe Danny is staying through the entire event; plays right to his interest in learning more about and supporting non-profit efforts.

Too cute here with the kids singing for the participants.

Great thing they are doing…this is definitely something that Danny should be doing. I think he could be very inspiring to them.

I’m glad Danny is able to do so much charity work in the few months he’s been off Idol.
He really does want hands on charity work, both with his foundation and others.
Also glad he got to hang with one of his Idols, Carrie.

It’s lovely…a win-win for all. I just hope that those participating (not just the AI people) will continue to help. It’s something people need. We need to give continuously…not just when our favorite tells us…not just when there’s a catastrophe.

I believe it was John Rich from the country duo, Big & Rich, who said that country music is all about giving, especially to children’s causes. St. Jude is probably the biggest one they give to. Phil Stacey, when he was doing country, was also involved with St. Jude’s. Great to see Carrie and Danny both with the kids.

Hear, hear. People like Carrie and Danny, who were raised in the church, learn that from an early age. You learn to give as soon as you have an understanding of what it means.

Danny’s been mentioning many times in interviews, this is one of the things that draws him to country music and the people in that community. One where he talks about that is this from last weekend, when he was attending yet a different benefit for a children’s charity. The charity comment comes toward the end of Danny’s segment.

Danny also talks about St Jude’s and an earlier visit in NY in this interview, starting about 40 seconds in. He mentions it was after AI wrapped up, not sure if that means some of the other finalists were with him or it was something Danny did on his own.

This is a charity that has always tugged at my heart. It breaks your heart to imagine what these kids could be going through but to see the smiles on their faces despite what they may be facing makes you realize how small some of our problems really are in comparison.

It’s awesome to see these idols, no matter who they are, contribute their time to causes like this.

  • RightNow

I don’t think these kind of events ever get the attention they deserve. As busy as Danny has been with his music career, he has never lost focus on working with causes he believes in. And he never gets enough credit for this. It’s unforunate that the people who do not like Danny will be the first to pounce on any little mistake, but will completely ignore something as important as the St Jude event.

It was great they did this. It is great too see former Idol contestants visiting sick children and not always out hob-knobing with the Hollywood crowd.

Well said. Our society needs more clips like these vs. showing celebs partying, eating at fancy restaurants, etc, etc.

Inspire people to give back to others less fortunate than themselves instead of always coveting the next best material thing.
