Carrie Underwood performs the title track from her new album Blown Away on the Billboard Music Awards 2012. Wind machine, confetti. A beautiful performance!

I loved her American Idol peformace of this.  But she really raised the bar with tonight’s performace.  She is an amazing talent.  She showed it again tonight with the emotional intensity this song and lyric completely called for!  This was the best performance of the night!

Kelly and Jordin did amazing as always! With such great success girl contestants do post American Idol, it still amazes me we haven’t had a girl winner since season 6. (Here’s hoping Jessica breaks that trend!)

Standing O for Carrie! LOL @ her taking over her backup singer’s part (although I think that’s actually her part in the album)

Incredible performance!  Everything just came together perfectly– the visual effects, the drama, the vocals.  They were able to create a live version for a song that as an album track, is so impactful because of the multiple vocal layers and numerous instruments used.  Loved the standing O too.

I don’t know about you guys but I can totally see Jessica being in stages like these in the future.

Carrie, Kelly, and Jordin really proved us once again that girls who win on the show really makes a mark in this business.

Woah, Holy fan action, smoke and confetti :P  Cool visual effects with all the white.

This performance was 100% better than the last time she sang it, nice.

“ETA: Jamelle Fraley (Carrie’s backup singer) really is slaying the background vocals.”

Jamelle Fraley is so beautiful and talented in her own right- she also appears regularly with Danny Gokey (and recorded bg vocals on his EP project) and with her husband Brandon, wrote a hit song for a Korean pop girls band.

That is what you call a true vocalist. If you have such a great voice, why not show that on every performance, I call it perfection and reason for why some should take lessons from her…. Kudo’s to Ms. Underwood.

This song is just so different and the dramatic feel to it is genius. Carrie nailed it last night. I felt the power and the drama as she sang. This song is going to be huge across multiple Genre’s IMO.

Now this is what these awards shows should be based on, singing like that, and real singing to boot… IMO she blew the doors off all of the competition last night. That was pure vocal perfection at it’s best. Carrie brought her A-Game last night….. So proud to be a fan of this lady, it just dont get any better than her….

Kelly and Carrie just proved you don’t need bells and whistles to captivate people…..just stand there and sing!!

Except Carrie had smoke (lots of smoke), wind (lots of wind and spinning fans) and blowing draperies,…   How is that not a bell or at least a whistle?  lol

I just don’t like this song…I thought Suzznne Vega’s ‘Luka’ was much, much better and really did it’s job.  I think Carrie overthought this song…I know she likes to sing about “causes” and life redemption but I think this misses the mark.  And, I don’t think it is a good song to sing live…it looses something in the translation from recording to stage for me.

But, Carrie has a beautiful voice and is a lovely lady and is very deserving of her success.  Just because I don’t like one song doesn’t mean I don’t think she is uber talented.

The staging and effects were better than her singing performance. She was pitchy thru out and her backup singer is a much better singer. However the song is really good and will sell big IMO. kelly sang much better than Carrie, yet Carrie’s performance was much more dramatic and memorable.

I love love LOVE this song! Ngl i prefer her recorded voice, i find her live voice annoying.

Wow! Loved the performance and the song. I was struggling to get the lyrics and when it clicked, I was like, oh I get it, sweet revenge, daddy passed out on couch . . . Really visual and clear, tough message. I am not a huge country fan, but I really liked this song. I just migh buy the CD now. I love huge powerhouse refrains, but I also love a single guitar and a soft quiet melody. Carrie can do both extremely well.

After watching these videos(thanks MJ), there is no doubt that The American Idol women have the best vocals in the music industry today. Kelly, Jordin, and Carrie are amazing, amazing singers. I think they are lovely, grounded women who walk with humility.

I thought she did a great job.  I didn’t think it was over sung at all.  I guess everyone hears things differently.

I have a question for those familiar with Carrie’s CD.  Which song, Good Girl or Blown Away, is more representative of her CD?  I’m a casual country fan, and I often pick up any of the Idol’s CDs that I like, to support them.  Carrie has surpassed the point where she needs my support, but I do like this new song, and may pick up the CD if this is more of the direction that she went with it.

I don’t like this song at all, at least not in Carrie Underwood’s hands. She yells the whole thing and her voice doesn’t sound the least bit musical. The continuous yelling is quite painful to listen to actually. Maybe another singer could do this song justice because Carrie certainly doesn’t.

To be honest, neither song represents the album as far as sound. Blown Away the song though is a more representative as far as the album aiming in a more visual direction with its lyrics. There are a lot of vivid scenes depicted in different songs.

The way Blown Away is set up, it starts off with 3 songs that cover some classic country themes but where the only thing that’s really country about them is Carrie’s voice because the production veers in more dramatic, rock influenced directions. Two Black Cadillacs is definitely as visual and dramatic as the title track. Then songs 5-10 on the album are stripped down country/pop (plus one beachy song), then songs 11-13 on the album are traditional country. Songs #4 and #14 are both CCM songs with possible secular interpretations.

I can’t do better than Itunes 1:30 clips but I hope that gave you some useful info :)

Thank you so much!  I think I’ll take a chance and get it.  I have a terrible time listening to the 1:30 clips, because then it’s like I’m analyzing, rather than sitting back and getting caught up in the music, so a personal opinion is always helpful.  :)

I never liked this song till last nights performance.  For some reason it all came together for me.  I think the song needs to be sung with gusto, if you will, oversinging some call it.  The lyrics and intent of the song, imo, call for that.  I think I finally understood all the lyrics last night so I could get the song.  Loved it and agree our girls did Idol proud and showed up a lot of people last night.

the song is supposed to be intense… Subtle just wouldn’t work for it glad the crowd all stood for her :).. best performance of the night imo.. She needs to hurry up and release it as a single though cuz i really want to see the video…

  • http://www.facebook.com/amirabdulrahim Amir Hazwan Abdul Rahim

If she ‘yells’ and ‘screams’ the whole world can do that too but I don’t think anyone can sing this song like she does imo.

Carrie lacks the subtlety of Kelly Clarkson. She was too focused on her voice and not the lyrics. She doesn’t know how convey the message of song, unlike Clarkson who can be emotional and vulnerable without even trying!

This was performed much better than on Idol.   The huge industrial fans were amazing–the white flapping fabric not so much. The big orange dress distracted from the song just as much as the white slit leg one did.
I think I would stage it simpler.  Industrial fans, simple shorter dress, no confetti.

My favorite part of this song is the pre-chorus.  And I don’t think she shouts that at all.  I think it’s just measured intensity.

got to love the Clarkson fans… They certainly stand out here, so negative, as always….
