Candice Glover performs her winner’s single, “I Am Beautiful” on the American Idol 12 Final Performance show.

Candice had a hand in writing this song, and she seems proud of the result. But personally, I prefer lyrics where the girl-done-wrong kicks the nasty boyfriend to the curb without interference, but that’s just me. I’m not feeling a great hook here, either. But nevertheless, Candice sings the snot out of this song, bringing her signature style to the proceedings. She rarely fails to have a moment in a performance. She’ll probably have me liking this song by the end of the tour!

Candice Glover 2nd song, Season Finale… by HumanSlinky

Candice Glover – “I Am Beautiful”

You say I sound silly when I laugh real loud
Talk about my day and you tune me out
You keep telling me lies to make things worse
But I don’t hear you
‘Cause I’m listening to his words
And he says I am beautiful
And when I fall
It don’t matter that I’m not perfect
I am beautiful
I’m not alone
And in his eyes I’m so worth it
I’m worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I’m not
He says I’m beautiful
You say I’ll never be good enough
Knock me down
Won’t help me up
And you always say the right thing to make hurt
But I don’t hear you
‘Cause I’m listening to his words
And he says I am beautiful
And when I fall
It don’t matter that I’m not perfect
I am beautiful
I’m not alone
And in his eyes I’m so worth it
I’m worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I’m not
He says I’m beautiful
And I deserve better things
He says he understands
I got to do whats right for me
And he says I am beautiful
And when I fall
It don’t matter that I’m not perfect
I am beautiful
I’m not alone
And in his eyes I’m so worth it
I’m worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I’m not
He says I’m beautiful
He says
He says
I’m beautiful
And I’m worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I’m not
He says I’m beautiful

Oh goodness, read the words to this song. It I even more powerful than having heard it once. I think Candice could have a hit with this song! She really is the best singer to me. I hope she wins even though I selected Kree 9 weeks ago.

and this is the Idol’s 2013 Winner Single

I like Candice’s song. I interpreted it with more of a spiritual meaning than the love of another man. I think it is empowering.

I think iTunes released another studio version of I Who Have Nothing…I want to know if it has the new acapella intro

I got the spiritual vibe as well it could definitely easily be taken that way. It actually felt more of a stretch to interpret it the other way which is another man is trying to step in to the picture b/c her boyfriend treats her bad. The song felt especially spiritual at the beginning it was just her phrasing of the words.

Near the end Randy kept calling her the church girl I never got that from her at all during any of her performances except for this time. Here I felt the underlying reference to something bigger that just wanted encourage/protect.

Anyway I don’t know maybe she was inspired by her home town visit. I think she went to her place of worship.

I think Kree actually had the better Coronation song lyrically. I am Beautiful felt a tad corny at times. I kept wondering how the public would take it. I was hoping it would get a reception like Christnia’s I am Beautiful, and TLC’s unpretty. They had similar messages attempting to get people to feel better about theirselves and those songs were well recevieved/ popular.

But regardless I will say Candice sounded great singing it.

I don’t know how I feel. Part of me doesn’t like it, another does. I’d need to hear the studio for this song.

Candice has an amazing voice. I take this to be a spiritual song. I even thought it might have originally been written with Angie in mind for the Christian market, Regardless, Candice is breathtaking.

Ah looking at the song in that respect, I think the song is much better.

I didn’t take it that way when she sang it, and didn’t really understand what she meant by liking the “message” of this song. What’s the message in another guy appreciating her more than her ex? But seen from a religious/spiritual perspective, it all makes perfect sense!

  • Maya100

But the messages in those other songs weren’t really similar. Those were self-empowering. This one is all about “I am beautiful because HE SAYS SO.”

I suppose it could be a God “He,” but that’s not the vibe I got.

It could also just be that after enduring comments about her physical looks and clothing and especially weight, she’s just saying she’s beautiful. A great song like a great painting allows you to interpret how you wish.. That way it can mean something to everyone

  • abbysee

I actually like it better than most coronary songs. I also don’t think she’s talking about a dude. There’s a spiritual tone that actually might bend genres a bit. And yes, she sings the snot out of this song. Frankly I can take those rah rah I’m so kick ass but so much because most of the time it’s pretty much false bravado because what most girls want in the end is the dude you love to say you’re beautiful. Just ask xtina, Bey, Kelly, and Pink. It’s not reflected in their music but in their lives. So even if it’s not spiritual it works this way too!

I’m curious to hear the studio version. I wonder if it will be more R&B/gospel?

  • abbysee

I picked Kree too. Then week by week Candace stated her case. And oh what a case it is.

  • sosayi2

A very Powerful song, Candice you are Beautiful, I love you and your song

  • sosayi2

I think it touches different people in different ways, it is a Powerful message.

  • maxie10

I really like both of their songs and I hope they are both released.

  • stef

I agree it can be taken with a religious subtext, though not all the lyrics work equally well for that.

I don’t listen to much besides country, but from that viewpoint the lyrics posted here remind me a little of Taylor Swift’s recent Begin Again. With a little more girlpower edge in Candice’s song and a lot more of that in Candice’s delivery.

I’ll be interested to hear the studio version. On first hearing last night, I liked some things about this but often I have to hear a new song more than once to make up my mind. Unless it is ueber-annoying which takes much less time :P

If she wins (which I will be shocked if she doesn’t), she would sing this again tonight, yes?
