Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong will be joining Team Christina Aguilera as mentor, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

In a statement, Billie Joe said he and his family are fans of the show. The Voice has won over viewers because “it’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.” He added that working with Christina is “A lot of fun.”

He started taping with Christina on Wednesday.

Billie Joe joins Rob Thomas (Team Cee Lo Green), Mary J. Blige (Team Adam Levine) and Michael Buble (Team Blake Shelton).

Not only does Billie Joe love the show…but the band has an album coming out on September 25. So there you go.

The Voice 3 premieres on September 10.

While I’m sure the fact Green Day has an upcoming album to promote is the primary reason Billy Joe took this gig I can see why those in the rock world would pick The Voice over Idol. Slash wasn’t impressed with the manipulative nature of Idol, if Idol wants to lure a current rock star for their panel, they’re gonna have to cut out at least some of their bullsh!t.
