It’s a lot better than I thought it would be; the production actually doesn’t make me want to kill myself, the lyric’s well-written enough, and the chorus is catchy. I think Andrew’s run on the show was derailed not only by stage fright, but because the judges didn’t help him AT ALL with their inane blathering. It was an obvious rig, imo, that set the stage for his self-driven end. The whole season was pretty much a mess like that.

But, this post is about “Dumb”. I’ve actually just downloaded it. It’s a lot better than most of the other post-Idol stuff I hear, anyway.

It was my impression in S9 that Andrew just wasn’t nearly as good as advertised.  He performed a few songs well, especially during pre-final phases, but didn’t seem to have what it took once the competition really got underway.  Not that he was up against all that much talent.

    Excellent song.  Ditch the video.

I still stand by my earlier comment about TPTB manipulation, but then again, we see that every year. No doubt was S9 the biggest mess of all in those regards, but it was also a pretty underwhelming show regardless. You’re right, a lot of people underperformed or just peaked too early.

Andrew I believe peaked too early; he had a lot of momentum with great performances during the pre-finals, and he can be great, but only within a certain wheelhouse. He was okay up until “Genie In A Bottle” (his first major misstep IMO), and it all kind of fell apart from there, with the exception of “Forever”, and maybe “Can’t Buy Me Love”, which was just kinda mediocre over terrible. He doesn’t have the vocal prowess required for a lot of the theme weeks they had that year. It was a ticking time-bomb, nonetheless.

With that said, I’m still a pre-Idol fan and can enjoy his voice for what it can do in its unique form. It’s a pretty alright single compared to what people in his placing usually release, if anything, so I’ll keep supporting him nonetheless.
