Anybody here? Sounds Siobhan rocked it tonight–probably the first headbanger on an Idol stage. I’m looking forward to her set when I see them in Anaheim CA.

  • Imkhemari

Quiet night? Seems like there’s empty seats early on but I guess it fills later. Enthusiastic tweeters – again people being surprised how much better they sound live!

  • Imkhemari

    Siobhan’s virus must be better!

Andy11, lucky you being able to go – I’m in NZ so am reduced to vicarious presence through the live blog and the videos!

  • Andy11

Imkhemari–Dude you should make a road trip!

  • Imkhemari

More like a 12 hr (at least) plane trip to LA from down under! We’re a long way across the Pacific from the US!

  • Andy11

Yeah, I was using a little poetic license, but still it would be cool. Anyway, you’ll be there in spirit.

  • Andy11

Looks like Big Mike is getting some love tonight.

  • aprilfoolish

    I love the idols!!!!

  • Andy11

I’m glad TeamLeeDeWyze was able to squeeze in a Crystal update–hope TLDW is OK–may need to call 911 on her when Lee comes-on…

hope TLDW is OK–may need to call 911 on her when Lee comes-on…

I was thinking the same thing – yikes!

  • aprilfoolish

    Medic!!!!

  • a-chord

Ahhh… at last a smell report on Lee. Don’t judge me! LOL. Thank you, TeamLeeDeWyze. I’m so happy for you… that you got your wish, and then some.
Imkhemari: I’m from Taiwan(Asia)by the way and it would take me at least 18 hours flight to be in California and a big dent in my bank account. Ha-ha! But I’ll be there for Lee’s solo tour. I’m glad I found this site because I feel so isolated here.

  • karrahbrooke

I was there tonight! Everyone was honestly fantastic. I didn’t end up tweeting that much because I was having too much fun! I’m sending MJ a full recap tomorrow. I got some good pictures too.

    Tour Review from tonight’s performance:

Estimated only 4000 folks attended! :(

  • Grammie Kari

    Siobhan’s virus must be better!

Oh, I hope this is true! Siobhan puts so much into her performances that a cold or cough makes her sound less than perfect. I am happy I saw the Idols when they all were in good voice.

If the media and others hadn’t trashed this season so much, the sale of tickets would have been better. Each is a talented performer and much better than on the show!

TeamLeeDeWyze is like a mini fansite in itself with 1500+peeps.
Anyhow, seems like people really enjoyed the show (no matter how big or small the attendance is).

Imkhemari and A-chord (questions for you guys)…
Just how popular or big is American Idol in your part of the world?
How big are the followings/fans of the AI9 Top 10?
Do they also have their own fansites in your country like they do here in the US?

( sorry MJ if I got off-topic but I’ve always wanted to know how AI stands outside the US as this would later on translate to album sales, etc on an international level). Thanks for the twitter blog though:)

rivermaya, Where I live (Iceland) and I think I can say the same applies to the other Nordic countries (Scandinavia) and North Europe in general. there is a very different mentality than in the US and maybe the UK. We don´t get star struck or as obsessive, so no, there are no fan sites. AI is a popular TV show here, but people here would vote differently. Girls would have a much better chance, and cute or good looking boys would not have much of an advantage here. I´m pretty sure that Crystal Bowersox would have won easily here. Adam Lambert was a clear favorite here in S8, but many are disappointed with his post AI CD, as I am. Chris Daughtry does ok, but Lee and Kris don´t have a chance. Carrie Underwood is not popular either. Thankfully, Justin Bieber and the likes are not popular. Any of these Idols as with international stars, could walk the streets here without being harassed and mostly left alone. As there are only 300 thousand ppl who live in Iceland, we don´t have many international celebrities, but even Bjork, our best known musician, goes to the same places as the general public. I´ve been behind her in line at the supermarket and danced beside her in club and gone to the same public fitness center and she was just like anyone else there. Sure, these celebs wouldn´t have to stay in line to go into a club on a Saturday night, so some VIP treatment. Mj, I´m guessing you´ll delete this :) way out of topic, just giving rivermaya a little info to her question

ETA: When Magni was a contender in Rockstar Supernova (4th place) of course for a nation of only 300 thousand, everyone was very interested, but I don´t even recall him having a fan site.

Eriko! Small world. I have a friend in Reykjavik. I got to visit back in 2006. Gorgeous. I look forward to going back.

You Vikings are so stoic. You would never flail. ;)

  • Eriko

Small world indeed wjmtv :) Glad you enjoyed your visit and are coming back. Could you bring Crystal with you?

  • wjmtv

    I can ask! I’ll bet she’d be game. :)

  • a-chord

I ckecked back in for vids and just saw your question, rivermaya. Sorry for the delay.
The English speaking community in my country makes up about 10 to 15% of the population so you could very well surmise that the people who watch AI is about… maybe half of that population. Just my guess because I only know about 4 people who speak English fluently in my circle of friends and none of them watches Idol. When Lee’s CD comes out I plan to buy 9 of them to make up for all the other seasons that I didn’t support and hopefully that would help boost his CD sales locally. LOL. Hope that answers your question.
On a sidenote, to give you an idea of how small the demographic who watches AI here: When Kelly Clarkson had her tour in Asia in May,in Taiwan, she was booked in a school auditorium and it wasn’t even packed. She did well in other parts of Asia though; Korea booked her in their Olympic stadium and she was booked at Venetian hotel (very high-end) in Macau.
Mj, sorry if I rant on and on….on what you may deem off topic.
eta: Good to know the posters here are made up of international AI fans. A nice mix.

  • rivermaya

Eriko and A-chord…thanks so much for your inputs.
Well, it’s still good to know that some of the AI9s are getting support from outside the US.
I sincerely hope you guys will someday be able to meet and see your favorite idols live!
    (p.s. MJ – thanks for allowing me/us to go off-topic a bit).

  • Imkhemari

Its 3am NZ time, and in a bout of insomnia I checked back for the new Lee video to see the offshoot from an earlier entry! Hope this OT survives for the other internationals to see! (Thanks MJ for your indulgence!)

A-Chord That trip to see Lee on his solo tour sounds good! Always on for an excursion!

Rivermaya I’m not in the best position to comment on AI in NZ in general, having spent the last 15 years literally and figuratively in the NZ wilderness – an isolated location, with no TV or radio, and a circle of friends whose interests excluded popular culture! However 6 months ago some health problems led me to abandon country for town, also being temporarily housebound I decided to explore anything and everything on TV as a way of catching up with what was popular these days! AI was one show I sampled in passing in March, Crystal first catching my attention as a polished performer, but I was then hooked by Lee’s voice, and followed it(and him) ever since. The whole phenomena of AI has been fascinating to watch, and I find MJ’s a good place to get a wide variety of views – leavened with a sense of humour (the snark is so much fun!)

So my experience is really only of the last 6 months, and via TV.

From TV watching its obvious that AI is a household name in NZ. We don’t have our own Idol show these days(though I vaguely remember one some years ago) but big brother Australia has one (the latest won by an NZer). Simon Cowell, Kara Diogardia and Ellen Degenerus are household names, with Ellen’s show on daily. Ellen’s resignation as judge even made the main NZ news – as the only entertainment item in the main news – just a short interest filler but it did appear! AI is shown here a week in arrears, with the final and finale shown only 6 hours after the show in LA.

I suspect that AI is a strong conversation topic at work morning tea breaks, but without the strong fanwars of the US. However Adam Lambert is really well-known here – I caught the shopgirls in the local village grocery store grooving along to WYWFM on the radio, lots of TV ads for the album and his devoted fan group is currently lobbying for a NZ concert soon!

I wish the whole of AI9 the best and will be watching their careers with interest!
ETA Just realised how long a ramble this is – must go back to bed!
