Similar experience with you …  I only  remember waching Ruben, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks, and David Cook win. They stopped showing American Idol on local TV from Season 8 on… so it was internet for me…
As I live under a rock, I  am only  aware of idols when they visit the capital of the place I live in… I think Archie, Kelly Clarkson, David Cook, Daughtry , Lee Dewyze…

Yeah, I still remember when Adam started to sing Beth all alone with that cage thing on his shoulders… I was like what the h…. and then Kiss appeared on stage and I was like … Oops Adam is underdressed !!

    Great moment !

Also remembered Simon’s prediction of Adam Lambert being a star for the world. (or something like that)…

Watching Daughtry getting eliminated on this Fox video  gives me the chills… even though I don’t really remember that elimination when I was following that Season of American Idol. Maybe I was not watching TV that night.

Yeah more ex-idols on the stage… maybe also as mentor… or even as judge ?

LOL yep and lord knows AI has such high regard for their special winners club. Ironic that the 4th place finisher, as usual, performed this season while the winner sat in the audience.

The point to me is that Idol is a Fox TV show, so what they should show are highlights from the TV show, not concern themselves with who sold the most CDs last year, since I doubt that is actually why people watxhed those seasons at the time. Just focus on the show as a show – that would be the point of any tribute I would think.

Never watched Idol until Season 8 and then after that outcome, check in occasionally since.  Much of this tribute was ironic, not iconic.   All the argument about winning and not winning is moot as some have had success, others not.   The person who connects with the wider audience is always successful.

Gwen PoreaSO thrilled that you choose David Archuleta’s Imagine to showcase all of the winners. When David sang that song the world knew that he was a STAR .My all time favorite Idol moment ever. Season 7 was over and above the best season. All real classy folks. Thank you.

It is so easy to understand why Season 7 would be your favorite.  I know I cared so much about the contestants that season.  There wasn’t a loser as both Davids were fantastic.  Syesha sparkled, and Jason was the sweetheart of the bunch.  Oh wait, so was Brooke!  They all were so good.  The tour was an awesome experience!Oh, I caught a glimpse of Siobhan – yay!

It’s easy to make fun of William Hung, but he had an album made, had appearances in Asia, and earned over a million dollars which helped pay his college expenses.  He also made guest appearance at other venues.  Not bad…for someone who couldn’t sing.

And you know what? I bet that Taylor wouldn’t want to switch places with Daughtry either. Give up a a spot in that club for 4th place? Nope…. not at all. I’m not going to argue with you about the benefits of winner vs not, but if Daughtry sold well in the past, terrific for him, but in the long run, there’s no better position than winning idol and using that win for years and decades to come as a tool in your back pocket for getting future high profile gigs, i.e., the headlining gig at Bally’s Taylor just snagged in Vegas. Lots of $$ in his pocket for that, no doubt…. without having share it with the “19″ grubbers.

Oh, please don’t forget Taylor Hick’s golf tournaments, charity work, his restaurant, his appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show, and being on Broadway!  :o)  Taylor is an entertainer AND winner of American Idol!

Yep you betcha!  The laundry list is hugely long for his all his successes over the past 6 years.  So proud of Taylor’s coo at his most recent victory – getting that residency at Bally’s Las Vegas over the next 8 weeks.  The president of Bally’s even said in the press release that nobody else can claim they snagged an American Idol WINNER in their hotel. No doubt those Idol bookers will now be looking to book their own people there, now that Taylor showed how it’s done….hahaha!

Yes, being a winner is the ultimate prize, for sure.

So the winner of season 5 snagged a free promotional spot to annouce his headlining gig at Bally’s – someone who has no ties to Simon Fuller, Idol or 19 anymore and who owes nothing monetarily to that franchise.  Must be that winner’s title that demanded the respect.

Archie is David Archuleta from Season 7 who sang Imagine in the Montage.
He was called Archie and David Cook was called Cookie to differntiate the two David’s.  The contestants themselves started it and fans to this day use the nicknames especially when talking about them together.  David A. was happy for his friend Cook won, as he thought he earned/deserved it.  Fans of Archie came to accept it too as David A was so happy to make it to the Finale and cheered himself for Cook.  It was a Celebration!!
