American Idol 11 – Top 13 Boys – Who Was Your Favorite? – Take the Poll!

AMERICAN IDOL: Joshua Ledet performs in front of the Judges on AMERICAN IDOL airing Tuesday, Feb. 28 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

American Idol 11 – You saw the Top 13 perform tonight, now tell us…who was your favorite?

  • http://twitter.com/lufflyness Jenna

My favorite was probably between Aaron and Joshua, I really liked Phillip and Jermaine’s performances too though. And as much as I hate to admit it, Colton Dixon was pretty good as well.

  • Anonymous

My favorite performance was Joshua. I like him far better than anyone else.
I guess second would be a tie between Aaron and Colton and Jermaine.

  • Anonymous

    goin through:

    1.Joshua
    2.Phillip
    3.Colton

-acutally those are the only 3 that im sure of

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GIRFMNI2ELGND3HUAJV7KXZGUQ Bobo Arcjoe

To be honest I really don’t see Jermaine, Adam, Joshua, Jeremy or Creighton being marketable in today’s radio and market. They seem dated.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GIRFMNI2ELGND3HUAJV7KXZGUQ Bobo Arcjoe

…and sorry but Eben is not ready.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GIRFMNI2ELGND3HUAJV7KXZGUQ Bobo Arcjoe

I really like Heejun, because we in the Idol bubble have been watching him and reading his tweets and know what a great personalty he has, but I am afraid the majority of the viewing public have not been really following his twitter.

I don’t think he might make it.

    Top 5 Predictions
Who I would like:  Phillip, Colton, Heejun, Joshua, Aaron
Who it will be:  Phillip, Joshua, Jermaine…Colton/Eben/Heejun (two of these)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J5DBFW7GJOC6MF6NDQWGL3HZVQ NathalieR

Why do you hate to admit it? Not a fan?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GIRFMNI2ELGND3HUAJV7KXZGUQ Bobo Arcjoe

     I saw that…lol

No one is voting for him or the black woman he has inside also.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GIRFMNI2ELGND3HUAJV7KXZGUQ Bobo Arcjoe

Randy Jackson said it best about Aaron….”You sound like one of those OLD SCHOOL singers”

I don’t think Idol should’ve brought back Jermaine…dated old singing style.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GIRFMNI2ELGND3HUAJV7KXZGUQ Bobo Arcjoe

I bet Chase makes it. There is a large segment of Country fans who watch Idol.

Joshua is winning the poll. No, now he’s in second, but he was winning before. I voted for him.

  • http://twitter.com/jonnyboy82 Jon Glass

Phillip Phillips need to go. we don’t need another kris allen/lee dewyze. horrible. and we don’t need heejun. This show makes me sick. I’m done with it.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J5DBFW7GJOC6MF6NDQWGL3HZVQ NathalieR

I loved Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips. My picks for the guys going through:
    1. Colton Dixon
    2. Phillip Phillips
    3. Heejun Han
    4. Creighton Fraker
    5. Reed Grimm
I was really rooting for Eben, as he lives just 20 minutes from where I live. But that song was way too big for him. Jermaine would be awesome on broadway or even in opera, but I don’t think Idol is his best outlet. Reed is infectiously charming. I hope his spot in #1 doesn’t make him forgettable. Heejun is hilarious and a great singer to boot! He is so humble and doesn’t even act like he could speak above his usual monotone, so I love when he busts out the big notes! I think Phillip Phillips will really go far. And I can not believe that Colton didn’t even make it to the top 24 last year. He’s good!

MJ, you need a none of the above button.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WC5Q6ULBZZD3YT6AIN4NTU4S74 Whiteshirt

Wow! I did not think that pimp factor could get worst than Simon Cowell and Fantasia in Season 3, but what they did with Jermaine tonight puts pimping on a whole new plane. It was like he was on his own special show and thank goodness his mama was there to hug him. Wow! Even I was surprised! and I didn’t think idol could surprise me anymore.

Who do I remember after a long night of idol? Deandre because that was a level of screech and bad I hadn’t heard in a long time.

I remember Colton in a good way (which surprised me again because he is consistently unmemorable)

    The rest are a blur.

So who’s a lock for top 5 boys? Jermaine and Colton. The rest may end up being a contest of geographical voting blocks.

  • Incipit

“MJ, you need a none of the above button. “

Triskel4, I have to agree. I came in to vote in the poll, but I didn’t. I just don’t have a favorite vocal, a contestant I would listen to, or more important for the show, want to see what they do next. “Least objectionable” vocal or song choice doesn’t count.

  • Anonymous

I’m still with P2, Heejun, Colton, Joshua, Eben and hopefully Jeremy :)

  • Anonymous

Granted, Dial Idol is far from reliable but Chase is doing quite well on there and so is Joshua and Creighton and Philip.

I have a feeling the judges will pick Reed and Colton if they do not make it through voting.  I am guessing they will pick at least of them. And the judges really seem to like Jeremy as well.

  • mm99

    Well Michael Buble’s doing okay…

  • Anonymous

I agree but I have a feeling he will do very well this year and maybe even win it…as he has that WGWG thing going for him which is popular with Idol voters in the past few years.

  • Anonymous

My question is if the judges each get to pick a wildcard and America picks 5 girls and 5 guys, it still will not be an even number again with a top 13. The question will be…..is there going to be an extra girl or an extra guy. I am thinking the judges badly want Reed in there because he is different ( I do not care for him but the judges love him) , will the other judges pick one or two girls for their Wildcards? And they brought back an extra guy tonight but I guess they are not bringing back an extra girl for tomorrow?  Hmmmm..unless Nigel wants to shock us all and decide they will be  a top 14 but I doubt it . And somehow I think this may be a top heavy guys season once again.

  • Lovesyesha

Hmmmm…so many bad ones to choose from. I guess I’ll choose the one that sang in tune the whole time, and managed to show intense emotion…Joshua. Hope people will do the same. Thanks!

  • Anonymous

Oh wow, no one likes Adam..

  • http://twitter.com/Carolinacharms Carrie Charms

Close your eyes and listen to some guy butchering the great “Angels.” You detect a weak, pitchy vocal with clipped phrasing. No musicality. Then open your eyes. Holy cow! It’s our dear Heejun. And presto! Suddenly you like the performance.

  • Tera2

Adam Brock has only 1 vote so far.  I’m not surprised.  I wrote my review in the top 13 boys recap thread and Adam is the only one I forgot.  He can sing but he’s a like a bar singer, and not a recording artist. His voice is a bit harsh for my taste, and his crying and hyper personality gets tiring too.

  • Anonymous

Joshua was easily the best vocally. Phillip buried the original melody in his performance and he comes off as a pale Dave Matthews wannabe to me. He sounded decent enough, though. I don’t know why exactly, but I sorta like Creighton.

I was unimpressed with the others. Eben was easily the worst. He should never have sung SFTTR. The producers likely picked it, but still… and Reed? That was awful — he came off as someone who would be performing in the lounge of the Holiday Inn. I can’t even deal with the odd faces he makes. I have no idea why people compare him to Casey A — Casey A is way way way better.

  • http://twitter.com/Super_Sachiko Jasmine Clark

yeah the only reason jermaine got picked over david and johnny, who were more popular, was because he had an elimination sob story. david had a sad elimination too but not as sad as jermaine’s. johnny got eliminated quickly, and he kept his composure. maybe he should have cried a lot, then he would have gotte picked.

  • Anonymous

Maybe it’s because the most memorable thing about him is that he is clueless about how idiotic he sounds every time he says that he has a black woman inside of him.

He does sound like someone who sings in a karaoke bar every night just for fun.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=195101108 Stefan Wind

Is there an option for none of them? lol

Seriously though, P2 was the only one that has a chance of winning…not that he will of course.

  • Kesia Monteith

I’m not gonna lie, I was highly amused by that comment.

  • Kesia Monteith

I’m so disappointed DeAndre wasn’t good tonight. I know there is a great voice in there somewhere. So sad :( Really hoping for a wildcard round for him to redeem himself. But some peeps on twitter likes him. *shrugs*

  • Kesia Monteith

    Help us all :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=593717582 Alexa Joy

Agreed! I thought Phillip Phillips’ performance was unbearably bad.

  • Kesia Monteith

I think so too. He stood out because he is the only one representing his genre from the boys. And I wouldn’t be surprise if he outlast the country girls, because they will vote split for sure.

  • http://twitter.com/Trishdish2001 Trish Martin

I might be in the minority but I loved Colton tonight!  He did not surprise me.  What I would love to happen next week though is for the Band to be toned down some so you can actually hear the singers sing.  I could barely hear any of them tonight.

  • Kesia Monteith

I liked him too. He was the first one to present some sort of stage presence . Vocally, I really didn’t think he was bad.

  • Pat S

Aaron and Joshua. No one else was on their level.

  • Anonymous

The good news?  This weren’t as bad as the Season 9 guys Top 24 night (then again, nothing’s that bad).  The bad news?  Nothing truly spectacular either — every performance left me wishing some aspect was a little better in some way.  My top 4 (and their flaws):

Philip: Original, and well sung, but a tad sleepy.
Joshua: Well sung, but so much extra flourishes hanging on that it almost felt ready to collapse under its own weight.
Jeremy: Heartfelt, beautiful, but the bum notes shone through in places, especially at the end.
Jermaine: Best storyteller in the bunch, but I’m still hoping to hear a bit more power from him.

I voted for Philip in the poll, but I’m hoping all four make it through somehow.

  • Jenny Carvell

i actually thought colton did a great job tonight as well, for a first live performance that was really good! if i had 2 guess who is going 2 be voted through thursday (the people voted through by fans are the only ones that really matter in my mind cuz those r the ones that will last) i would guess that p2, heejun, joshua, colton and either jeremy/deandre or jermaine will make it through. not sure who i think the wildcard will be. i wish that chase hd had more screen time in auditions because i thought he was really good as well but i can’t see him making it through based on basically being unknown 2 the public up till now. maybe possible wildvard hope but i highly doubt it

  • Anonymous

Aaron and Joshua were the best vocally, imo, but Aaron’s song choice might hurt him. Philip Philips, as much as I hate to admit it, was pretty good tonight and Idol audiences tend to soak those kinds of performances up. It didn’t fully work, but it was interesting, which is more than you can say for most of the songs tonight. Colton should be in as well, but if not, he’ll definitely be a wildcard pick.

On Dial Idol right now, the order is Chase Likens, Jermaine Jones, Philip Philips, Joshua, and Creighton (but all but the top 3 are in the yellow).

  • Anonymous

Three of those five sang songs from the 21st century, and they didn’t seem that dated to me.

  • Anonymous

Usual dialidol warning…especially early in the season, the results can be so skewed by a single user’s flurry of busy signals, that they can be really off.  In this case Chase, Jermaine, and Phillip all took a big jump at once, right around when a guy in Oregon started calling in (those there are currently scoring 70+ in Oregon).

  • Anonymous

Yeah, I know, I didn’t say it was going to be accurate, but others were discussing it and I was just updating the info. I didn’t know you could see where calls were coming from on there, though.

All I can say is I hope the girls are more interesting and better than guys, otherwise this week will be a disappointment.

  • Anonymous

My Top 3: Joshua, Aaron, Deandre

    Middle 3:  Reed, Chase, Phillip

Sang terribly: flat and wobbly: Eben, Colton

Like personality and sang in key: Heejun

Didn’t care for performance: Jermaine, Adam, Creighton

  • Anonymous

I really like him and I think he has a good voice but I want the judges to tell him to only use that high pitch sparingly, and only to highlight a specific spot in the song…I don’t like female singers with high pitched voices and I sure don’t like it that much in a male voice.

  • Anonymous

I liked Creighton too…not so much the others except DeAndre if he only used that high pitch as a highlight and not the main vocal sound.

  • Anonymous

    My thoughts exactly.
I really like his lower register, he needs to use it more, and much less of his falsetto.

  • Anonymous

I have not been a big fan of Heejun (aside from a couple of his tweets that I thought were funny) but I wish he had picked a different song to give himself a stronger start.  I, and probably a lot of other Idol fans, still remember David A’s outstanding version of Angels and this version just pales in comparison.

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.i.lin David I-Chen Lin

Poor Adam… he’s definitely not a bad singer, I think he’s just trying too hard. And also showing your emotions is okay, but crying like a hippopotamus every screen time won’t get you much fan love, just sayin.

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.i.lin David I-Chen Lin

I agree, he surprised me with his last solo performance last week, but this week wasn’t good. He sounded quite weird to be honest. Hope he gets through and proves that he has it next week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.i.lin David I-Chen Lin

Heejun definitely wasn’t at his best today, but I didn’t hear any of the dreadfully negative things you described there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.i.lin David I-Chen Lin

Philip & Kris Allen? I see no similarity in these two. I love Kris and I’m liking Philip so far too, but I think he can definitely do better. Heejun also didn’t bring it but I love his unique tone and of course his personality

    Someone posted on another forum who was trending on the front page of Youtube;

    http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1427/topyoutube.jpg

Eben is number 1 on youtube front page.

    Colton is number 2

    Reed is number 3

Colton is the only one getting good ratings and comments. Eben is being bombarded with bad ratings and comments.

So maybe this shows who is going well using youtube?

  • Anonymous

joshua had the best performance for me tonight, BY FAR. colton and reed were pretty good too… everybody else was just good… i really liked how most of the songs were from this decade. good job. i get why the judges weren’t really critical except for “that wasn’t the right song, but you can still saaaang” or “it wasn’t perfect, etc” because it’s the semifinals and it should be OUR choice who goes through and not theirs, but come on… i saw soooooome almost shades of the jlo i liked tonight and i hope she becomes more critical once we move into the finals.

  • Anonymous

Not much to say. Overall, better show than in past years. Love Colton. He may not be the best singer but I would listen to his voice. Phillip will go through but I am not a Dave Matthews fan so I hope this dude does something different.

  • Anonymous

    1. Joshua
    2. Jermaine
    3. Phillip
    4. Chase
    5-12. almost everyone else
    13. Eben

  • Anonymous

My favorites were Joshua and Phillip, but I was pleasantly surprised by Chase and Creighton, I thought they were really good. Colton and Jermaine were also high points, the others were pretty boring.

I think the top 5 will be Phillip, Colton, Joshua, Eben (although I don’t approve) and Heejun or Jermaine. Curious to see the wildcard choices!

  • Anonymous

IF I HAD to pick(and trust me I fell asleep on the couch after Phil Phillips from last nights stimulating performances…I’ve caught up this morning though) I’d say Creighton(and it pains me to say him) because he was one of the only ones who held my interest.

  • Hazehel

Joshua Ledet to me obviously had the best performance of the night.  It’s just a pity that producers overshadowed his performance by putting the non-contender into the pimp spot putting special focus on Jermaine.   If Joshua don’t get voted in, then that would show how seriously the producer have messed up the show.

I think the producers this year had completely gone deranged, aside from all the stupid mistakes they made, now they put someone like Jermaine Jones into the finals taking up a valuable spot in the Top 13 (and by the nature of things, will then likely last many weeks.)  This season is looking to be in some serious trouble.

  • Anonymous

Rachel Crow is one year younger and infinitely better than Eben. X Factor FTW.

  • Kathy Goldstein

I enjoyed Phillip a lot, think he is a lock. I am also pulling for Chase because I like country and he is from WV :) I know it seems here like Chase wouldn’t have much support and is likely out. But I am not so sure. I said last night that he had no real airtime etc and with only 5 going through his chances weren’t good. But my hubby made some good points. He is the ONLY male country contestant. The South is a huge voting block of AI. He is from WV, a place that will fully rally behind and support and vote for him. His hometown is about an hour from me and his college town is about two hours away in the other direction. He has been all over our news for a while now and I am sure Marshall had some sort of get out the vote going on for him. (WE ARE ….. Marshall!!)

I think no challenge in the country genre for him may help. Country fans VOTE for AI. But still with only 5  going on and no airtime I’d say he is 50/50. Sure pulling for him. He is one of those contestants that if he makes this cut he will go very far if that makes sense.

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MikhailXO

Wouldn’t it be more accurate for us to tell you who sucked the least? Wow…that’s a hard one…

  • Kathy Goldstein

Yes just because a guy is an actual musician with a guitar does not always = Kris Allen. 2 totally different styles.

  • Anonymous

True, but unfortunately for Phillip, WGWG comparisons will be inevitable, though I like him.

  • Tess

Well, I must say if the poll and dial-idol are a true reflection of who the masses want to go through I may be only catching up on Idol via this forum and will forego the actual broadcasts.  I feel like I’ve stepped into the “Twilight zone” territory or maybe a vote for the worst parody. And, I know that personality is important but that personality needs to translate into the performance…liking someone for who they are “off camera” doesn’t mean that they have the goods to perform in front of it.

I also don’t get the negative judges critiques…this week is a “one shot” deal and to point out all the things “wrong” with a performance to “teach or mentor” someone who is getting only one chance to be live on National TV doesn’t do them or the voting public any good at all.  I feel strongly that these kids should have one moment in the spotlight and don’t need to be told everything they messed up on….I, personally, thought the judges were were a good support group and I appreciated the fact that they aren’t Simon clones out to burst someone’s bubble for the sake of their own inflated ego. Time enough to point out “issues” as the season progresses….though I usually turn off the judges, anywhos.  I like to make my own decisions!

  • Anonymous

Dial Idol has shocking results.  They have Eben as safe and getting the most votes !  And the only other ones in Green are  Chase, Adam, and Jermaine!
I am hoping this is way off. Even Joshua and Philip finish lower and are in yellow.  Eben getting the most votes on Dial Idol is shocking.

  • Anonymous

It will be interesting to see who the judges choose for the wildcard spots depending on the voting results. I think the judges will want to make sure Philip, Reed, Joshua, Colton, are in there but I could be wrong.  The judges also seemed to really like and especially gush over  Jeremy so we could get a supriise pick.

  • Anonymous

Look at the raw numbers there, not the dial idol score.  There is enough phone capacity now that busy signals do not mean the same as they did years ago.

  • Anonymous

I couldn’t bring myself to vote for anyone. I suppose that Joshua was objectively the best, but since I can’t stand that kind of overwrought gospel style singing (and I have horrid memories of Jacob last season) he doesn’t get a nod either.

What I marvel at is that the contestants found such a variety of ways to be bad: they sang played out or little known songs, they were loungy or karaoke, they were utterly unmemorable or startlingly awful, they were swallowed up by their song or altered it out of recognition. We had it all in this episode.

My vote for worst performance  would go to Deandre (Eben was at least awful in a conventional manner that is common on Idol, but Deandre was like nothing I’ve ever heard before, just a bizarre display). But I can’t apply the word ‘favourite’ to any of them.

  • http://twitter.com/Adam_Lim Adam Lim ™

DialIdol has been an unreliable source since last year.
Dont forget you have ONLINE VOTING

  • Anonymous

As a devoted fan of Idol, I had high expectations and felt let down at the end of the night. Poor Eben, I think his nerves got the best of him because it sounded like his entire performance was off-key.

  • Anonymous

“Yes just because a guy is an actual musician with a guitar does not always = Kris Allen. 2 totally different styles”

I agree, but I do see some similarities between Allen and Phillips (aside from the obvious). They both possess a soulful vibe and they both are somewhat rhythmically inclined.  The main difference lies in talent, which Kris Allen has in spades. Philip would be OK, if his voice wasn’t like nails on chalkboard to my ears.

  • Anonymous

Colton, Joshua, Deandre, Phil,Creighton – those are the five I want!  Awww Deandre went from second on last poll to 5th on this one, I hope he gets to top ten, I am not worried about Colton,Joshua or Phil but Deandre is wonderful you just have to love the falsetto and a lot do not, his lower tone is wonderful too he just needs to mix it up more, cant wait for the girls tonight

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

I’m going to predict the girls going to blow the guys off the stage.

  • Anonymous

Dialidol is not reliable if you look at the Dialidol score. Last year’s top 24, had 2 girls (Julie Zorilla & Tatynisa) making it which didn’t happen. But if you looked at the raw numbers on Dialidol they had ALL of the 10 contestants that made it on voting.

Right now, if you looked who’s the top 5 in the raw numbers on Dialidol most of them were expected & I understand why Nigel’s happy.

  • http://twitter.com/friarphilSD Friar Phil

I must have heard a different show than most here. Philip has the most votes in this poll yet he was one of the worst. Maybe you all never heard the original song by Phil Collins. That was the worst Dave Matthews singing Phil Collins jumbled up arrangement I ever heard.

Deandre screwed himself by getting a song, I heard they had a list and the producers picked the song, that was primarily out of his natural key…the kid needed to sing something in his key and stop the ear piercing falsetto singing. Not as smooth sounding as Phillip Bailey.

I could only understand half the words Colton sang, Joshua and Adam are more white chocolate…why is it America seems to stray away from African American singers yet likes these white guys trying to sing like black guys.

Speaking of black guys we have Jermaine. The man did not sing like that when he was eliminated. All of a sudden he appears and suddenly sounds fantastic? Anyone smell something fishy there (a bit of feel good reality TV?).

Eben should never have been given an Adele song off his list since it is not in his key and the lower notes messed him up in the middle.

Reed reminded me of a bad act in Vegas.

The rest were forgettable- well Jeremy was alright as was Heejun.

Aaron would be at the top of my list I guess.

But then let’s add in the fact that 6 guys and 6 females will be sent home Thursday. WTF? That is hardly fair.

While I hated Philip’s destruction of In The Air Tonight I may like what he did next week.

The show has killed itself. Sucked the drama right out of it and with the producer picking the songs last night, from the contestants short list, it was as if they are helping to pick who we get stuck with after Thursday.

I will see how the ladies do tonight. I think they will have the edge but truthfully I am about done with this show.

  • Kathy Goldstein

Yes me too. And I liked Kris.

  • Kathy Goldstein

Agree. I do like Kris’s voice better.

  • Tess

Was it ever confirmed that the producers picked a song from a list provided by the Idol…or how many songs were on the list if the producers did pick.  I think if it was my one and only chance to impress America that I would fight tooth and nail to sing the song that I thought best represented me (from those that clear, naturally..that is what it is).  Sure the show can be pretty manipulative but I don’t think the chosen songs were just handed to the guys.  But…it makes for a good excuse if someone did poorly.

  • revcat

I thought Deandre was terrible, all the falsetto and the constant hair flipping! I loved his hair till last night & now I am kinda over it. Wanted to root for this kid, maybe if he sticks around he will redeem himself, or not!

  • Anonymous

He reminded me of Brett last year who did a lot of hair flipping, too. Before last night, I thought DeAndre had a chance to make it through depending on song choice. He has a voice that has the potential to be marketable in the R&B genre. But he didn’t pick the right song last night.

  • Anonymous

On Dial Idol Eben, Chase, Adam, and Jermaine are the ones that are considered safe, with Joshua and Phillip in the yellow zone.  If they are right, we are going to have the weakest, least commercial, most boring group of males to ever grace Idol.  We just may get that female winner this year.

  • Anonymous

    Doesn’t mean we liked him.

  • Anonymous

Look at raw numbers. DialIdol numbers are not reliable for top 24. Raw numbers predicted all the 10 contestants who were the audience picks.

  • Anonymous

That does seem more in line with what I would have predicted – although I am all kinds of bummed to see Reed Grimm and Jermaine in the top tier.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Who saw the biggest follower gains after the Top 24 (Guys) performance night? It’s the Twitter Overnight Power List, which has no proven prediction value, based on last year’s tracking. This is current as of mid-morning for me, so if you check Twitter later in the day, numbers will be different. That’s part of why I declare ties when numbers are close.

There’s a cluster of the heavily followed, with some minor jostling for position, a few people in the middle, and then a large pack of the lightly followed, who did have mild position-swapping overnight.

    7T   Brock, Adam   4,552
    7T   Ledet, Joshua   4,484
    7T   Rosado, Jeremy    4,291
    10T   Likens, Chase   3,537
    10T   Fraker, Creighton   3,400
    12   Marcellus, Aaron   2,456
    13   Jones, Jermaine   420

Percentage gains ranged from 30% (Eben Franckewitz, against a moderately large starting point) to 1300% (Jermaine Jones, coming from nowhere), with the average ~50%.

Winner of the night in Twitter terms is Colton Dixon, whose move from #3 to #2 involved a 62% follower gain, or more than 7,300 followers (the largest raw-number gain). Joshua Ledet‘s 80% gain (the leader after Jones) was fewer than 2,000 followers and moved him only from 9th to a tie for 7th.

I would be surprised if the top 5 in followers are the exact five who advance.

A lot of P2 fans and Heejun fans are following the two of them even if they arent reeally a fan of the other because of their bromance lol.

Nigel said he agreed with the top 5, so people can just relax and consider Joshua Colton and Philipp safe.

I wouldn’t consider that at all. Nigel will be happy with whoever gets through so long as it means he gets people to watch the show. The top 5 guys could end up being 5 of the weaker guys and it would leave him excited that he can push for a female winner.

My theory on Phillip (and a few of the others) is that we all recognize that a great singer sounds like him- or herself while performing. So when somebody “indie” sings, they always *do* sound like that, even if they’re bad. So it’s easy to be biased toward an indie because we hear that individuality — which really *is* the key to greatness *if* it’s coupled with musicality, a good voice, etc. — even if we don’t hear other good musical qualities. Plus, the indieness gives the performer a kind of “x factor” that also makes him/her kind of stand out.

Whereas when the amateurs or inexperienced pros sing in standard genres, especially pop genres, they have a very hard time sounding authentic because the genre itself tends to overwhelm whatever individuality they attempt to put into it. It’s just a lot harder to sing in a true pop style while also projecting *yourself* as an artist. You are a lot more constrained in how you alter the rhythms and so on. So we tend to hear them as being less generic as the real stars.

Which all goes to explain, for me, why, after Joshua, who was the hands-down winner and the only one I really really liked last night, my other kinda favorites were the indie types, even though I didn’t think any of the indie types actually did a very good job!

“On Dial Idol Eben, Chase, Adam, and Jermaine are the ones that are considered safe”

    Oh, please, no.

On the other hand, if great girls go through, then I guess I could live with this.

This is a great point.  I agree.  I’ve said that the people in this category are given credit for knowing who they are, and knowing how to make songs fit their strengths.  But, I wouldn’t say that everyone in this group has done well, remember Tim Halperin from last year?   His semi final round performance was worse than some of the ones that we saw last night.

I will say that the people who do not fall under the singer/songwriter heading are capable of reworking a song to fit them, it may be more about understanding music, and understanding themselves more than just which genre they are in.
