They are all so boring! Sorry, unlike most on this site – X Factor is much better! Prediction: This site will be talking about the “shocking” lower viewership for the new season of Idol.

Ha that was a pretty cool/interesting concept. I can’t wait for the new season! I have a feeling that it will be a good one.

I doubt that. Its premiering right after the NFL playoffs, so that should help the ratings a lot. All they need is a really talented group, and what do you know! Idol is the must see show! S10 was great, but I think S11 can be even better.

I think the “pied piper” concept is cute. Anyone know what the background song is and who’s singing it?

It Will be interesting to follow how all the new shows will affect idol this year.

Can’t wait to see what they come up with this season

    And so it begins…

I think Idol season 11 promo looks great. Season 10 was a great season with great talent. I think Simon is going to hate how successful its going to do. Its after the big huge championship game. Idol will coming ROARING back with HUGE numbers. Simon seems to resent Idol more then anything lately especially since X Factor hasn’t performed as well.

Yeah, I am looking forward to the new AI season.  There’s plenty to complain about, sure, but it’s become like a friend whose company I enjoy and with whom I’m comfortable.

I’m not ready to let go of the S10 group just yet, but I agree, likely S11 will do better after a year of trying out “The Voice” and “X-Factor”, there’s a good chance many will return en mass to AI.  It’s like breaking up a long term relationship, dating here and there and finding out that what you had wasn’t so bad after all LOL.  Those other shows had interesting differences to AI, but ultimately humans as a species like to return to the familiar.

Love JLo’s pumps and STylers jacket/vest/thingy.

Interesting who’s following those pied pipers…

Randy – singer-songwriters and wgwgs writing their own songs
    JLo – girl groups
    STyler – garage bands
Seacrest – urban / hip hop

Is this a nod to XFactor/TheVoice/SingOff?  Are there changes afoot for AI11?  Allowing groups & bands to compete now?  Welcoming hip hop to the fore? Allowing original songs into the competition?  I’m guessing not, but the ad sure makes it seem like it. :O

S10 was severely lacking in R&B representation.  They say Jacob and Stefano (and Ashton) was it, but that’s a pretty weak field, especially with some of the promising ones shown during auditions and Hollywood who barely got any air time.

  • Brittany Keener

    I tried Shazaming it…nothing came up. :/

Ha!  I like that analogy better than mine. X-Factor is kind of a showy type guy, full of himself, arrogant.  I think he’s a user.

  • yaddabing

I was just wondering this morning when we would get a promo.

Even though I wanted to pull my hair out sometimes with the lack of constructive crisism from the judges to the contestants, season 10 had a great group of contestants.  I say bring on season 11!

  • Jae

I will watch AI because I do enjoy it but I admit I am not starving for it . Xfactor will end like a month before Idol starts. I do hope the judges do a better job this year though.

  • TBTW

I am looking forward to Season 11, but have a feeling it’s going to be disappointing… much the same way Season 6 was after a great Season 5, and Season 9 after 8.

    I can’t wait!

I’m excited for the new season, though I do hope the judges are more critical when necessary. They should look to The Sing Off judges for guidance. I just caught up with the all the episodes and they constructively critique the groups, highlighting what was good while also pointing out what may not have worked. And despite what Nigel has claimed in the past, TSO proves that the technicality of the actual singing can be discussed and the viewers won’t get confused. Lol.

They are already doing idol promos in October.  They didn’t even wait till end of November.  I don’t remember it being this early before.   Is it because of X-factor.  Anyway, I’ve watched idol from day 1 season 1 and I always look forward to it.  I’m loyal to idol but I can’t get excited this early for something that’s 3 months away.  Its like seeing promos for movies you wanna see but its not coming till next summer – its frustrating. I’ll be excited for idol in december when we see clips of new contestants.

It comes in 3’s- everybody thought seasons 3, 6, and 9 were the worst ever and the year after those always results in a revamp of the show. So it’s another year and a half until the next bad season ;)

  • Janae

After how S10 turned out to be, I’m somewhat lukewarm. Let’s hope for a better turn out in S11.

  • springboard

I was lukewarm towards Idol after S10 because of the judging, but I like this promo and it makes me look forward to the new season. However, if the judges fall back onto their non-judging nonsense, I am done..

  • Grammie Kari

Emy, I agree with you.  Idol needs good judging which is what “The Sing-Off” provides, and some great contestants.  I agree with more R&B but I don’t look forward to Hip Hop.  However, to attract younger viewers, I expect Hip Hop.

I thought Season 9 was very good, but I didn’t like the winner.  I am excited about each season, but have had disappointments.

It brought us a big selling winner, and the contestants were talented.

  • karenc

I remember them doing them this early last year, the Coming Home ad with the former winners played during the World Series.

  • Janae

Yeah and I still didn’t like it.

  • TBTW

Hmmm… interesting concept.  It may be another 5 years before a good season too  Best ones were Season 5 and Season 10… will we have to wait for Season 15?

  • TBTW

I think the reason it’s hard to follow a good season… is that right at the beginning, everyone is comparing them to last season’s contestants and they are not that good yet (cuz it’s the beginning!)   People will be saying “she or he is good, but not as good as Haley, James, Scotty, etc. etc.”  They won’t be willing to give them a chance.  With S10, the slate was clean cuz there were arguably no real standouts from S9.
