More news is trickling out about Adam Lambert’s upcoming post-Idol release.   From E!Online:

Adam Lambert may have just revealed all personally, but he’s apparently putting on a poker face for his professional debut.

Living up to his American Idol reputation, and nickname, Glambert has sought out the musical services of hit-making producer RedOne, the man behind Lady Gaga’s two biggest hits and the person frequently creditedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ aside from the teacup-loving singer herselfà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ with the recent resurgence of glam rock.

Sources tell E! News that Lambert spent the weekend holed up with the “Poker Face” and “Just Dance” producer in a Los Angeles recording studio.

Not sure I’d call what Lady Gaga does as glam rock, but she’s theatrical, for sure.   Labels sources tell E! that Adam’s debut will be heavy on “Queen-inspired” sounds.

I can totally imagine Adam as a male Lady Gaga, with a rock edge.

Swedish-Moroccan producer, RedOne has also produced for Akon, Enrique Iglesias and Michael Jackson, among others.   Adam is hoping for “a new sound that goes beyond what he did on Idol.”

This is news to go “gaga’ over!

  • elephant1212

i hope this means his first single has “HIT” written all over it!

btw, i see this article going full throttle in the blogosphere in 3…2…1…

  • auntieaimee

Like, club music? Meh. Not my thing.

  • Mary102

Love the Lady Gaga angle. I think this is a good niche for Adam. It’s what he loves, and the pseudo-glam/theatrical performance style is definitely hitting a huge resurgence today with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, etc.

I still maintain Adam has to be careful, though, to not go too far over on the theatrical side, especially as far as the vocals are concerned. You got to reign it in a bit for a radio-friendly track, then hit it out of the park for the performances. Plus, as a male in this female heavy field, he has to walk a fine line in order to pull in more of the masses.

But, in all honesty, as far as male role models go, I see him following much more in JT’s footsteps – don’t know why, but many of the songs on his latest cd were very sexy, electronic, dance-infused hits. JMO.

Like, club music? Meh. Not my thing.

Most “club music” are either redubbed pop songs or DJ special mixes. Adam has said he wants an elcectic album, much in the style of Queen albums. I can see dance “Gaga” songs, strong ballads and you name it on the album. I look forward to it.

  • Calliope

MJ, I don’t think Lady Gaga is full on glam-rock, especially in the way it is usually defined by the 70′s, but I think she definitely has the influence there (she is just very, very poppy and polished-sounding), especially when you listen to who influences her as an artist.

But yes, I always thought Adam could go the way of Gaga, yet rockier. I like the idea. I think he can pull it off as well.

  • selena

Can’t wait for this album- I predict major success.

  • oceana

This sounds perfect for Adam. I doubt that all his songs will be glam rock, there will probably be some variety on his debut cd. But this is definitely how I see him going, in the glam rock and Queen direction.

  • SexyEvey

Go ADAM! You sexy bitch! I cant wait to see the outfits that accompany! Meow!!

Yes. Thats JT in a nutshell with a few ballads thrown in there. JT is one man that was able to do the electronic/dance-infused hits successfully. If it can be done with an R&B influence, I’m sure it can be done with a rock one.

  • girlygirl

I can totally see Adam as a male Lady Gaga type. I still think he has too be careful about making his album all over the map in terms of musical styles though. It needs to hang together somehow in order to not come off as just a bunch of songs randomly strung together.

Still, exciting news. It seems like the Top 2 Idols (and Allison) have been able to hook up with some really interesting collaborators.

  • haruhi

The Lady GaGa route…Adam has to sing and dance. He’s great at both.

  • cay

Great news. RedOne is very hot right now. Fresh. Adam will do pop and glam rock, but glam rock will be very 2009 . Fun and upbeat, although he has said he’ll have some dark, mysterious too. I’m excited. People on twitter seemed stoked too.

I saw this quote on twitter and loved it:

“Adam Lambert affects more political discourse than any rock band you could name.”

  • Mary102

As someone who follows a lot of music trends and tries to figure out how the idols will fair in the post-idol music industry, this is definitely one of the trends I saw Adam being able to follow. It’s hard to imagine a guy going the full Lady Gaga route, but when you think of someone like JT, it seems to make a lot more sense. Sexyback is almost something Adam could have come out with, imo.

And wrt the Queen angle, I love the idea of throwing in more ballads as well – not just dance tracks in the vein of Poker Face or Just Dance. His voice is so lyrical and beautiful, I’d love a few soaring power ballads in there as well. On the show, I always wanted to hear Adam sing “The Show Must Go On”.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M65zI9LH-as

Considering that this youtube video from Lady GaGa has been posted for 1 year and has close to 60,000,000 hits….I’d say that this genre’ of music seems to be finding a very popular place in pop culture.

Now given the fact that Adam has a much better voice and that there doesn’t seem to be much male competition out there….I think this is probably a good way for Adam to go. Oh sure, it won’t be everyone’s cup-o-tea but it will, hopefully, get him a good foothold in both the American and International recording culture.

For those who really like the “ballad” Adam…I am sure that he will be singing a lot of that on guest gigs and TV shows, etc. just probably not on his first album. Besides, this is Adam’s album and Adam’s career…I’m just along for the ride.

  • Ellie2

I think Adam’s a smart guy and understands this. He said in some interview (can’t remember which one) that what he did on stage on Idol was more OTT vocally and the studio versions are more reigned in. He definitely knew that the more OTT stuff should be saved for live performances.

Oh man, I can’t WAIT for this album. Our glittery alien is going to be amazing!!

  • tinawina

If he’s going to make it, this is his best shot IMO. Dance electronic pop with a rock edge, he needs to find a way to make the genre a tad more masculine and he’s good. Throw in some melodramatic ballads and a generous video budget and you’ve got something there.

I almost think it doesn’t matter so much what he does in the U.S. They are going to push him hard overseas regardless.

if anyone hasnt checked out lady gaga’s new video for “paparazzi” this is the exact kind of music video i see adam wanting to make…………..FREAKING AMAZING!! THE VISUALS ARE AWESOME

also, this to me looks like RCA is pulling out ALOT OF MONEY for adam bc no doubt that REDONE is one of the most in demand producers right now

  • wjmtv

I can totally imagine Adam as a male Lady Gaga, with a rock edge.

    And some talent.

I’m getting the feeling that Adam’s album ain’t gonna be my cuppa, that’s for sure. I’ll still buy it, though, and I’ll still go to his show cuz he’s my boy. But it looks like Kris will be getting a lot more spins at my house.

However, I am withholding judgment until I hear the whole finished product for myself. Who knows? If I can like Forever the Sickest Kids, anything is possible.

  • elw

So happy to hear Adam’s album will have a “Queen sound”! I’m also happy to finally read something about Adam other than his sexual preference. I LOVE THAT BOY :)

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

    Sounds promising. :-)

  • suebrody

This is GREAT NEWS! Very catchy music, has #1 written all over it (Just Dance is a really fun song), and we *know* he has a better voice live than she or Katy Perry does, as evidenced on Idol.

Wow…Adam is gonna be HUGE, I tells ya, HUGE!!!

  • elephant1212

actually if you go on youtube and listen to lady gaga’s pokerface on piano with her slowing it down, she actually has an amazing voice…not as good as adam’s obviously but he could easily make it into top 12 on idol….the recordings of her songs just dont do her any justice

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

this is EXACTLY what I’ve been saying he should do for months. If he’s managed and marketed right, he could be the male popstar the show’s been looking for but never found. I think Cowell understood that from the start.

This news makes me happy. I love “Poker Face”, and just heard “Just Dance” a zillion too many times to love it. This is exactly the right place for Adam to be, IMO. Awesome!!

  • jpfan

We’ll see if a male can make it in that genre. So far it’s completely dominated by females but it’ll be interesting to see if they can get it to work.

  • Mary102

Oh man, I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t WAIT for this album. Our glittery alien is going to be amazing!!

Agreed. Just one reason why his studio and performance versions were always SO different (and why I had to buy one of each for each song – and sometimes I don’t know which one I prefer for any one song!)

On that note, though, does anyone know why the studio tracks rarely had the same accompaniment, esp. for the stripped-down songs (TOMT, If I Can’t Have You) and/or why some of the endings are funky? (I still can’t get passed the bizarrely abrupt studio ending of BorW).

My only thought is that they have literally 1 hr to record these things (what with the busy schedule, rehearsals, photo ops, interviews, etc. each week) and that they couldn’t get the same arrangements for the full length studio recordings.

Just something that always bugged me.

  • Mom in the Suburbs

He’ll be part of this latest wave of very popular electro-dance-pop theatrical performance music. He’ll have to coin a new term for it, perhaps “Glam Pop” instead of glam rock. Judging from his spin on Bowie’s Fame and Starlight on the 20/20 clips, he’ll sing in a rock style but have that electro production. I expect this to be a hit. I’m old (over 40) but even I can groove to Lady Gaga and her ilk. Could see him re-working some of his pre-Idol songs for this. Kiss and Tell maybe?

What is exciting is that I totally see him being like Madonna who knows how to change her look and sound every few years to ride the next pop wave. He can sing anything, and when the pop thing is played out (or even if it never does!) he can do movie musicals or Broadway. Madonna did Evita, remember, and still went back to her huge pop music career afterwards, with Oscar and Golden Globe buzz on her resume. He’s going to have a huge career, imho.

  • lola

I guess media is still not over Adam. His PR staff is doing great. At least Adam news are now focusing on his music. So excited for him. He’ll continue to surprise us.

  • Squirrely

Yeah the Born to Be Wild ending always bugs me too. What’s up with that?

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

Finally some news to get excited about.
This means that RCA is supporting him for the long haul as I am sure RedOne does not come cheap.

I can’t believe I have to sit here and wait another two/three months plus to hear this music!

  • Tess

Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see if a male can make it in that genre.

Are there really a lot of good male singers who have the balls to put themselves on the line with this kind of music. This isn’t sit on a chair and sing to the melody, or sit at a piano, or stand in one place and have a background dance group….this is about REALLY active participation in the song. IMHO, this kind of music sells because of the videos attached to the music….it is as much visual as just hearing the music. In order to sell this you need to want to tour and play any live gig that comes your way….you need to love an audience….you need to be able to PERFORM.

From what Adam has shown, previously, this is what he wants to do and he should be remarkably good at it.

  • isisdagmar

As long as at least some of these songs still show off his voice (which Lady Gaga’s don’t always), this sounds amazing. And Queen-inspired sounds would indicate that they will really showcase his voice, doesn’t it? I suppose we don’t know exactly what they will do, but this really does sound like RCA is pulling out all the stops for him, and RedOne–this is huge.

  • Sunn

I remember Bamboo well (a dance tune a latin beat)!!! His 2006 FIFA World Cup tune.
RedOne is a producer not a writer according to Wiki, which already has the Adam Lambert news by the way (Wow that was fast!), and he can produce a good sound based on his discography. But in the end everything depends on the quality of the song.
whether this is really good news, or meh, I don’t know. I’ll have to wait for the album.

  • Zerika

Being male in female-dominated genre could be a huge advantage for Adam. As Adam says himself, he’d rather stand out than blend in. Having the same producer as Lady Gaga doesn’t mean his sound will be identical to hers anyway, he can still have a distinct sound. Perhaps a bit more rock than hers. I just hope they’ll use his voice to the maximum advantage. Queen thing sounds promising.

  • Kris

It will be interesting to see how he does. I’m not sure if pop radio would embrace a male Lady Gaga. It will be interesting to see how long Lady Gaga lasts. It is true that pop radio is dominated with female artists. The only male pop star that pop radio really loves is Justin. And I don’t see Adam having a career like Justin. They aren’t even comparable.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Bring on Lord GaGa! I love Lady GaGa. Her album is solid. Glam in the Doll’s, T-Rex, Velvet Goldmine way it ain’t though. But I suppose everything is open to reinvention. Punk today is a long long way from White Riot. And that’s ok =)

  • LisaE

This is great news. A lot of people were concerned that Adam wouldn’t be commercial. So, it’s great to hear that he’s working with cutting edge producers who will make sure he’s current.

I actually think “Starlight” is a great indication of what Adam could do. It’s rock, pop and electro all in one. It showcases the vocal (falsetto, hard rock, pop) and has great mid-song tempo changes that lend itself to an epic feel like a lot of Queen songs (think “Under Pressure”). However, I’m also interested to see what he does with “Fame.” I hope he mixes it up and puts his own twist on it.

  • AC

Okay, I really hate Lady Gaga (haha) and so I really hope that Adam’s album does not go in that direction because I do want to buy his cd! I hope he goes more the rock route in his pop/rock sound since my fave performances of him was Satisfaction, Black or White, Whole Lotta Love…

Also when I think of the electronica/dance pop type of thing that Lady Gaga does, I think of the dancing they do on stage or in the videos and I really do not want to see Adam dancing. It justs loses some credibility as a rocker type.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Yup I can see Adam taking a page from Muse. And Placebo for that matter.

  • born2bevil

WOW!!!I can’t wait!! My money is so ready!

  • tinawina

Yup I can see Adam taking a page from Muse. And Placebo for that matter.

I would love to see Muse type stuff from him. Oh, if only 19 would let folks go “artistic”. Sigh.

  • screamingisgood

So glad the sex-talk is winding down and the singing-talk is gearing up. Finally. Go, Adam. You are IT! Can’t wait to hear whatever he does.

  • Thea

I am rooting for a rock edge, and a sharp one. Not just for personal preference, but also because I think it would make Adam stand out even more, and because Adam naturally has that edge, he should use it.
Pop guys are common. Rock-melodic-glam guys with a fantastic and recognizable voice- not su much!

  • Calliope

Bring on Lord GaGa! I love Lady GaGa. Her album is solid. Glam in the Dollà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, T-Rex, Velvet Goldmine way it ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t though. But I suppose everything is open to reinvention. Punk today is a long long way from White Riot. And thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ok =)

There were a lot of glam-type acts that came after the 70′s, it’s just they were mainly British. In the 90′s you had Suede, Pulp, Placebo and now you have Muse, Panic at the Disco, etc.. It’s always been there. Lady Gaga’s voice is really poppy (so is her music though, which I like), so I think that is why she isn’t as glam sounding, plus it seems like most glam acts are guys. I guess that is where Adam has an edge. It also makes me think of what Simon Fuller said in Rolling Stone about how glamtastic Adam was (my paraphrasing, not his words).

Even if Lady Gaga-style pop is not here for the long-haul (as most music trends aren’t), I think one thing Adam’s run on AI proved was that he was versatile and able to transform his image, so I won’t worry about longevity in his case — just getting a decent album so he can get his foot in the door!

  • karenw

Good stuff .. this news is also promising for Adam to do well here in the UK and the rest of Europe/the World

Also I can see some great videos and live performances happening.

Let’s wait and see . but it’s very exciting.

  • Vanessa

Male Lady Gaga….Rock edge…Queen inspired sounds….I may be liking this!!

I don’t think rocker credibility matters if he ends up doing GaGa-esque songs, because then he wouldn’t be a rocker anyway…

I can definately see Adam doing something along the lines of Muse, but I hope he puts his own spin on it (as I’m sure he will). There are enough Muse knock-offs in the world, and none of them are as good as the real thing.

  • BestAI

I still maintain Adam has to be careful, though, to not go too far over on the theatrical side, especially as far as the vocals are concerned. You got to reign it in a bit for a radio-friendly track, then hit it out of the park for the performances.

When you listen to Adam in interviews, he really does come across as extremely intelligent. When he talks about the music business, he is very-well informed. He also is not afraid to take risks, and in his songs for his album, some will be very successful, perhaps some not so much.

I’m getting so excited for Adam’s single/album. Is it fall yet?

  • Anastasia72071

Well, I have no idea who Lady GaGa is, and I’m not even sure I’ve ever heard any of her songs (the only radio station I listen to plays a wide range of music, but leans towards a range of rock & pop from the 70′s through to current, but very light on ‘dance music’). But, if Adam’s album is a mix of glam, pop and rock with a couple of power balads thrown in, I’ll be extremely happy.

  • jerzytrash

I think this is just amazingly spectacular news!!! For those who are dismissing LadyGaga as just club music, go listen to the whole album (or even just the iTune soundbytes). It’s brilliant. I have pretty eclectic musical tastes…Leonard Cohen to Pink Floyd to Dolly Parton to White Stripes and everything in between. LadyGaga is HOT.

I’m wondering if some of these are Adam’s ideas, and RCA is going along with him. I think Adam thinks “big”. It’s kind of like all his performances on AI, when Adam talked about certain staging, and the production staff went along with him.

  • GeminiDolly

Gaga’s Poker Face gets played all the time here that Im getting a little sick of her. ha. I much rather Adam go more rock route, but if he wants to be “Lord Gaga” well I hope he does well.

  • cosem

. It’s really funny… I just bought Placebo’s new album (fantastic BTW!!!) and spend 1 hour watching a documentary about them, Placebo:androgyny. Adam looks like Molko’s lost little brother, the resemblance is obvious…it”s almost scary. Seriously, if you have time to spend, take a look (forgive me if this is OT).
I think glam rock-pop is the perfect genre for Adam and I’m sure that the producers will be careful and smart enough to showcase his voice (his big weapon after all)

  • Mary102

Thinking of a Muse sound, they definitely showcase a lot of falsetto, in fact, a lot of male singers have a killer falsetto (JT, again with the JT references!) and Adam’s is brilliant (just the idea of replicating that TOMT sound — ahh!)

As for the big notes, I’m reminded of what he did on the studio track of Feeling Good (another Muse connection) – and that sounded great! Slightly different from the stage version, obviously, but both worked brilliantly. So I’m thinking it should definitely be no problem to showcase the vocals.

Of course, over-production wrt electronic effects could cover it up, but I’d hope he’d find a happy medium between some tracks that are heavily produced, and some tracks that are more subdued.

  • SuzieQ

Wow, so all of GaGa’s released singles (with the most recent one being “Love Game”) have been produced by RedOne…and they’ve all been hits.
I think this is a good thing for Adam. I never really saw him as the heavy rock type…more like pop-electronica with a rock twist. As long as he gets to show off that amazing voice and doesn’t let the auto-tune take over, this should be a great album.

  • impqueen

GaGa’s album has been in heavy rotation on my iPod for months. Literally, of the entire album, there is one ballad I don’t love, and that’s… it.

The entire album is great. Adam could not do better than Red One as a producer, since The Lady herself says that many of the tracks on that album were written and recorded inside of a month (from the Rolling Stone cover article on her the week before Glambert’s Liberation).

I’m thrilled. I was really hoping to be able to put Adam’s new album on “repeat”, and now it’s starting to look like a solid prediction. I wonder if GaGa would like to take a ride on Adam’s disco stick?

  • Kath77

I think Adam walked through the doors of RCA knowing exactly what he wanted to achieve — a rock/pop sound with global appeal, according to various interviews, and the label opened the checkbook to make that happen.

If this is an indication of label support, the promotion budget will be very healthy.

  • Squirrely

OT – I read something that said Allison should have signed with RCA instead of Jive given that RCA is more rocker-ish and Jive is more pop-ish. Not to familiar with labels to say if there is truth to that – if I can locate the article I’ll post a link.

  • elephant1212

looks like perez already got ahold of the article…..at least adam is keeping the pub going until the tour starts!! girl knows how to work it! hehe

  • revcat

Lady Gaga sure likes to push the envelope, disco stick, he he! I can’t wait to see what Adam comes up with! :wub_tb:

  • Mary102

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m thrilled. I was really hoping to be able to put Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new album on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“repeatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , and now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s starting to look like a solid prediction.

I hope for the same thing. I don’t know how many idols I love on the show who I haven’t been keen on buying the album for when it comes out (ok, I’ve had three huge AI favs, and I did buy Daughtry’s album, but not Cook’s, and now I hope to be able to buy Adam’s too).

If he goes this route, I will be all for it, for I love that edgy, pop, dance sound now.

But there’s always that fear that what you loved about them all season long on the show won’t really be captured properly in the 1st album. What makes them so great on the show doesn’t necessarily translate to the album (hence so many complaints about how singing disco and country couldn’t possibly suggest how, say, a rock artist is going to create their first album.)

Though of course the good artists on the show have made the genre fit for them – like Daughtry, Kris, Adam, Cook, to name a few.

Why is everyone assuming a Lady Gaga type album? Like I said earlier, he’s also doing Alexandra Burke, who’s a Leona Lewis type singer but with more soul and a better voice. She certainly won’t be going Lady Gaga.
A producer is in charge of the sound and the mix not the type of music. Redone has produced Latin, hip hop, pop ballad and dance in the past. The only thing that can be defined as his sound is the electronic edge to his production and that he is definitely a pop producer.

I can’t guess what Adam’s album will be like or what genre it will cover until I hear it.

  • al2009atw

    Wow, we can’t wait!

We didn’t know who Lady Gaga was until she performed on Idol. And we were like: “Ohh, so this is Lady Gaga and she is good, no wonder she is huge right now”. We like our powerful ballards but Lady Gaga is really entertaining too. I can’t wait to see Adam dance. I saw his pre-idol stuff when he danced, OMG, super sexy.

  • karenw

According to Wiki, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s also doing Alexandra Burkeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s upcoming album (X Factor winner). Which makes me think that perhaps this collaboration is a 19 production not RCA.

Alexandra is signed to the UK RCA group

I think Adam’s PR is turning out to be brilliant so far. Adam allowed people to get to know on Idol first as a singer and performer. He made headlines every single week for his singing and performing skills. Rolling Stone loved him and recognized the talent. Rolling Stone said he was to have the cover no matter what position he finished in, and they did not care, nor know, what he was going to say or if he would “come out”.

Then, after Idol people got to know him as a person first, he then continues to keep his name out there and continues to attract new fans with RS and 20/20. I can’t tell you how many people on twitter, myspace, FB has said that they didn’t know who Adam Lambert was, but after reading/watching they now like him. Liking him leads to people checking out his music which leads to the possibility (if music is good and current – something fresh and new) of them buying the music.

Redone is very hot and in demand right now. But, he’s not going to want to make Adam just a Lord Gaga. He’s is interested in keeping his own buzz going, so he’s going to add something new – hopefully a rock slant. He’s going to want to make something that is “Adam”. Adam says he has to take some risk – some edge. Seems like he is. Adam has really made this name for himself (heck even CNN showed him singing “One” this morning talking about a gay commercial and made the comment that people are accepting Adam). People are more likely to accept him as someone “out of the box” because they “know” him. He’s not going to be some guy who jumps suddenly into the scene trying to be a Lord Gaga. He’s easing people into something new. I’m so excited.

OT – I read something that said Allison should have signed with RCA instead of Jive given that RCA is more rocker-ish and Jive is more pop-ish. Not to familiar with labels to say if there is truth to that – if I can locate the article Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll post a link.

I don’t think it matters that much — talk a look at the Zomba/Jive site artists. Anyway, Barry Weiss, who built Zomba/Jive into what it is today, is now running all of BMG Group, including RCA and Zomba/Jive. Here’s their current artists.

    http://www.zombalabelgroup.com/artists.html

My Alison worry is that since Rock isn’t a top selling genre that they’ll push Alison to far into the pop space to capture the tween-teen market. I just hope the “Save the Rocker”.

  • lavender1960

Not to brag but did I not predict a male GaGa direction for Adam as well yesterday.

I love Lady GaGa – she is doing dance music with some fresh twists that get into your brain and won’t leave, bwah. It also probably helped that the Canadian Version of So You Think You Can Dance used her song Just Dance in one of their promos and the promo is one of the best commercials I have ever seen done [both promos, the other was to Pussy Cat Dolls, When I Grow Up] I already loved the song before I even knew who sang it. And from her Idol appearance, girlfriend actually has real singing and music chops. Also she has no respect for lip synchers. You go GaGa.

And she is one of the few dance artists that has achieved major crossover appeal.

It might not be a good idea for Allison to share RCA with Adam at the moment. They seem to be really invested in him, she would be a secondary priority. I doubt that RCA wanted anyone else in addition to Adam this year anyway, and Jive seems to be good place for teenagers. Jive will be more patient with her than RCA would have been.

Gagaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Poker Face gets played all the time here that Im getting a little sick of her. ha. I much rather Adam go more rock route, but if he wants to be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Lord Gagaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ well I hope he does well.

    :laugh_tb: Love it.
Addendum to my previous post – above all, I pray that whatever Adam’s album sounds like, they don’t over-produce it (and his voice) into oblivion. I hope they showcase his vocal abilities rather than have him drowned out by electronica.

  • lavender1960

Sometimes producers approach the artist or the label not the other way around, especially if they know the label can afford them, bwah.

Oddly enough, Timbaland, Missy Elliot’s old partner in crime and hits, Missy E being another artist Adam has said he wants to work with [Get Ur Freak On, indeed] said he wanted to work with a rock band next. He was bored with hiphop, and was contemplating quitting, he said in an interview, and his colloborations with Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake et al reenergized him. His colloboration with Duran Duran on 2 songs however didn’t quite work out as well as other colloborations. Though the band claimed to be happy with the tracks. Sometimes it doesn’t work. Or Timbaland be losing his touch. Maybe Mr. RedOne is the new IT boy.

I’m a little nieve about the music business. Do artist usually use more than one producer for an Album?

  • BestAI

looks like perez already got ahold of the articleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..at least adam is keeping the pub going until the tour starts!! girl knows how to work it! hehe

Perez sure changed his tune after RS and 20/20.

  • hwc

It’s no surprise that Lady Gaga can sing. She started out at Ticsch School for the Performing Arts at NYU. This is an audition only school that is seriously hard to get into for a singer/musician.

Her stage name comes from the Queen song Radio GaGa. She got her start as a songwriter, writing for groups like the Pussycat Dolls. Of course, Carmen Bachit of the Dolls founded the Zodiac Show.

Lady Gaga did an uber-theatrical rock show, which got her noticed.

BTW, her album is a great sound album on a good music system. The production is really good.

  • GeminiDolly

Perez is Bi-Polar when it comes to Adam. One post hes singing praises and on another hes being a bitch. But whatever, at least hes keeping Adam’s name out there.

  • lavender1960

It depends. Some artists use only one producer or one specific team for the whole album – the benefit to this is a greater cohesiveness over the whole album I would argue – see Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno and U2 – The Unforgettable Fire as a great example and U2 tends to only work with one producer or one team for the whole album. They’ve done a few albums with Steven Lillywhite as well but I hear Lillywhite contributed to the newest album along with Eno and Lanois being principal producers again.

I think this used to be the norm in the industry but not anymore.

Other artists will use a variety of producers in part because they want to cover different musical territory and they will or should have a principal or overriding producer who pulls everything together for the final product. And sometimes you bring in superstar producers to guarantee you some hit singles off the album. You can’t afford them for the whole album but a couple of songs maybe. Or they are too busy to do whole albums. Or I suspect some producers aren’t interested in doing whole albums, and prefer to work on only a few tracks per artist.

Just checked out some of the Lady GaGa youtube videos that snuffles posted. …”I wanna take a ride on your disco stick” Seriously?! … Well no wonder I’ve never heard this on the radio, rofl! I like that type of sound if I’m in a club or at a party, but I don’t listen to it when I’m at home – soooo, I hope that Adam’s album has no more than 2-3 dance tracks. Bring on the Power Ballads!

  • jz

Adam RedOne, what a beautiful pairing.
Hopefully it gives birth to some addictive, fun, party-lovin’ jams.

Maybe Adam will do a cover of Lady GaGa’s Boys, Boys, Boys.

I am so excited about this. Not that I’m a Lady GaGa fan…yet. But Adam has gotten me interested in different genres of music than I had been listening to, so I expect to have this kind of pop/electro/dance stuff grow on me.

But I do want some Queen stuff too. And a few ballads. Oh heck, whatever it is will be great! I am really stoked about this news!

I think Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s PR is turning out to be brilliant so far.

I agree. On the one hand, it seemed like coming out so soon after Idol was a bad PR move, in terms of not stringing along people’s curiosity longer, and maybe waiting to drop the “out” news right before his album drops in the fall (which is a very common celebrity move – no surprise Jon and Kate had all the marital strife conveniently right before their new season airs).

Still, with each move he tends to keep true to his nature of “keeping people guessing”, even if it’s just little things like the “bi-curious” line in RS, or mixing it up with celebrities. I think his nature is to not be too afraid on controversy, which is a tried and true press magnet.

Even just throwing out lines like wanting to work with such and such artist in the future, even if it hasn’t officially happened yet, will lead to more PR.

There were a lot of glam-type acts that came after the 70à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just they were mainly British. In the 90à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s you had Suede, Pulp, Placebo and now you have Muse, Panic at the Disco, etc..

Oh i know all of them. I primarily listen to British bands and always have but other than Placebo whipping out 20th Century Boy, none of them sound like 70′s glam. Inspired by perhaps but none of them are gonna be mistaken for The Dolls.

Isn’t the term now Emo used for the wave of more theatrical bands – certainly describes Panic at the Disco, Emo with panache anyway……..I have wondered, not having seen PATD live however if they are more entertaining on video than on stage, aye there’s the rub but since videos are so dull these days kudos to them for at least making some entertaining videos and music.

I think the press coverage is no different than what followed the Davids last year with the exception of Rolling Stone coming out business and Mr. Cook is still out there plugging away – on Larry King tonight I believe. Maybe Larry can do a better job one on one with an Idol winner/contestant than in a group.

I remember all the speculation about who the Davids were going to colloborate with as well. I imagine the PR will continue at a similar level through the tour and prick up again, bwah, when those singles are ready to drop by No. 1 and No. 2 and in this case No. 3 and maybe No. 4.

  • mahrikka

Nice! I can’t wait to be surprised.

  • lucy

One issue with collaborations is that they often take a while to set up, and “a while” is actually longer than they take to churn out these first idol albums!

Plus, you have to work around people’s schedules, and the idols’ schedules while touring make that difficult. If you can get a label-mate then you may have a shot. On the whole though, since the would-be collaborator is doing *you,* the idol, a favor, going through all the difficulties of getting something like this scheduled quickly is mostly not going to pan out. Add to that the fact that the big names that the kids always want to collaborate with are going to want really great songs — and really great songs aren’t often available in the quicky, first-idol-album production process.

  • Calliope

Cool. I was just mentioning them because people tend to automatically think about the 70′s glam scene when they think glam, but it’s had an influence in many other bands from other decades. I absolutely adored Suede and Pulp back in the day!

Now The Darkness is another story.

My first introduction to them was at Reading 2003. I had no idea who they were since I was not in the UK that summer (until that point), but saw so many flags for them set up at camp. When they came on and everybody tried to sing along to “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” I was a bit taken aback. Let’s just say I prefer Lady GaGa’s glam-pop take to that. lol

EXCELLENT article on RedOne from today’s LA times. Says he is working with Adam (and Usher) and hopes to do at least 6 songs. Definitely Rock.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2009/06/going-gaga-redone-riding-a-hot-streak-working-with-usher-adam-lambert.html

    Section related to Adam:
“I want to go rock — David Bowie and Queen, but make it more easy for people to get,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ the producer said of his vision for Lambert. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“It has to be rock, but with an interesting dance angle to it, you know? Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll like it.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

RedOne said he hopes to record at least six songs with Lambert, but that doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t guarantee that they’ll all make Lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s RCA debut (a Lambert representative was unable to be reached prior to posting). An à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ finalist comes equipped with a built-in fan base, and RedOne said heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s eager to play with peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s expectations.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You know what I like about him? Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fresh,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ said RedOne. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You can go almost whatever direction with him. I hate this…now my mind won’t work. I might get fired because of Adam.

True, but one would hope something he does makes the cut (RedOne isn’t cheap). Even without that, from the tone that could be set, well, I find it could go an interesting direction. Which is why I am wondering if I dare hope for a proper dance-rock album since I absolutely love when rock and dance mesh correctly.

So yeah, it may not come to fruition, but the mood has been set for something I can possibly get behind.

The Darkness is more Emo than Glam IMHO.

Really? I don’t see that at all. Even the British Press called them Glam.

They are all about the party. Emo is about mourning the fact that mommy and daddy don’t understand them and their boi/grrl friend just ripped their heart out and they just feel SO VERY DEEPLY THE PAIN and now they gotta go all stabby rip stab stab.

Infantile bleating crap for the most part.

10 or 12 is far better than the current 0. My bet is that at least one of the RedOne songs makes the album.

Love the LA Times article, particurly the last paragraph.

The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹80s was happy music, and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m doing musically. People are reacting positively to big choruses, joyful music.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

BTW – Panic At The Disco is crazy theatrical live. Crazy! They had mimes, dancers, Elizabeathan costumes, props, and on and on. There must have been 15 non-band members on stage doing visual things throughout the show.

This sounds promising :) it seems like this guy gets it. I was worried that Adam was going to end up going the route of his earlier music (“Kiss and Tell” etc), but I have reasons to believe it won’t end up that way now. Hopefully.

This is so exciting! I prefer varieties just like Adam’s AI performances which were different every week. I am so happy for him, the music industry really appreciates his talent. I can’t wait for his new album.

To top if off, I scored a copy of RS (and me in Canada!)

Where in Canada are you? I’m in Vancouver, and have not seen it *anywhere* yet.
