Adam Lambert was the guest mentor on this week’s Majors & Minors. For those of you unfamiliar the show–after a nationwide search, twelve young performers are mentored by a crew of vocal coaches, musicians and star performers. At the end, the kids will perform a concert and a winner will be chosen to receive a record contract.

Adam was fantastic with the kids, who were rehearsing his hit song “Whataya Want From Me” as a group song. He gave them tips, constructive criticism and encouragement and was extraordinarily kind with his young charges. Of course, the kids responded very positively and seemed to learn a lot from him about stage presence, and how to sing a song with feeling.

In part one, Adam mentors the kids. Part two has a little more Adam in it. And in Part 3, the kids perform his song “Whataya Want From Me”.

Majors & Minors airs on the Hub Network on Sundays at 7 pm. Future mentors include Jordin Sparks and Jennifer Hudson!

Note: The first video is in black and white…for some reason. I’ll replace it later.

Great job, Adam.  Just love the man.

Oh that Adam! Sweet, charming, appropriate, wise, experienced Adam. Good advice, nice to the kids. They actually took his advice. Unlike when he mentored another, much more visible show a couple of seasons ago. ( clears throat )

He did a great job!!  He would make such an amazing teacher, so patient and kind. The kids are really talented too!

Adam Lambert is amazing. Last weekend he was belting out with Queen and out shined every one else, this weekend he is mentoring this young stars with gentle and detailed instruction. He is not just teaching them how to sing but a life lesson on how to cultivate and expand the relationship with every one around you who will help you get a job in real life. A life lesson that is not taught in books but learned by real experience. BRAVO ADAM LAMBERT!!!!

    He’ll make a great dad.

Excellent work with the kids. A few of the older kids aren’t that much younger than Allison when he was ‘camp counselor’ for S8.

Cameron losing his shit was so cute.

    Just watching again M&M =)
What a great show! The kids are amazing and Adam was a GREAT MENTOR!!!
WOW Cameron!! He´s so cute and really talented!!! Love the kids performance!!!

Unlike when he mentored another, much more visible show a couple of seasons ago. ( clears throat )

To be fair, the Season 9ers were dealing with a heck of a lot more than these kids are.  The Minors are doing a group performance — the Niners were doing individual songs, with the reality that two of them were going be axed the following day.

Adam is a really good mentor, though.  He said that it’s weird to do these mentor spots because he feels like he’s still learning, but he also has almost twenty years stage experience now and lot to teach any up-and-coming singer.

That’s a really hard song for kids that age to sing. It doesn’t have to be a love song, but that’s the obvious interpretation.  And it’s a song about vulnerability, which is probably the scariest thing in the world to them right now.  Good for them for really getting into the spirit of the song.

OMG presh overload, that was so cute! Adam did such a great job as mentor. I love how he treats the kids like young people not children, never talking down to them like some adults have a tendency to do. I thought they did a great job too, some more than others LOL, but every single one seemed to really put their heart into it.

The guy from ETOnline that interviewed him that day said that Adam spent about 90 minutes working with the kids, I wish we could have the rest of that footage!

  • sagi

I really enjoyed that! Adam was awesome with those kids. Just so humble and sincere and natural. His personality is as beautiful as his voice!…(and his face!) ;)

those kids really are giving it their all…and they are pretty darn good.  Adam gave them some good advice, and have to say he looked pretty good too!

Adam was in his element and a master at being able to connect with these kids. He was once there himself as he started out in the music/theatre business at a very young age. These kids were incredibly fortunate to have him as a mentor.   You can tell they were in awe and internalized every word from their charming mentor.   I especially loved seeing the big grins on their faces when Adam sang along with them.                                         Sensational job, Adam!!

  • Anonymous

I already said this in the headlines thread, but Adam gave great advice to the kids and they all seemed excited to work with him. He was very articulate and he sounded great when he sung his little bit of the song.

The boy, Cameron I think, was a little fanboy. So cute!

  • jinxx315

If anyone knows about singing from an early age it’s Adam. He is a vast well of experience and information as far as singing and performing goes. That one little blonde boy playing guitar can really sing, too! I was shocked when he started belting it lol. You could tell these kids were in awe of him and listening to every word.

I think he and Grace seemed the most excited, so cute. And I thought I recognized Grace! She’s the little girl in the MCR vids.

Should of checked here first. lol.

Adam was great on M&M. Cameron is such a fanboy, so cute. Adam got alot of screen time. Adam looked gorgeous on my TV.
Adam is also in John Kearns article in the Irish News http://twitpic.com/7d3e25/full
and from Queen’s official site administrator said “I don’t think we have seen the last of that particular (Queen & Adam)collaboration…” Squeeee!!!

Adam did a great job. He gave a lot of good advice and he was so down to earth and friendly. The kids still seemed a little intimidated at times, but they are all very talented and did a good job on WWFM

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

He is a natural teacher. He has the qualities great teachers have, encouraging, respectful, makes things relatable, able to break things down to be understandable. I have been a mentor teacher so I am not just babbling here. He was wonderful and we only saw small snippets. Wow!

  • http://twitter.com/arhianrod Arhi

This was really good.  I watched for Adam but those kids are great and I love the technical process. Learning more about artist developement then I thought I would. Adam was great with the kids.  And I loved watching the children react and interact with him.And I got a total kick out of watching them work on WWFM. Adam is a natural with those little people.

It must have been a kick for Debra Byrd to meet Adam and other AI alumni, as she vocal couched in AI S8 and now sees his and their success.

Also, how cool it was to see Debra and other in-house coaches be so into the live show? They genuinely shined positivity around them.

Wow!  Adam was great, and those kids are just incredible.

Is there a scan anywhere of the Irish news article where you can read what it says? I have seen the article posted but have the actual content hard to find.
Also, Adam was wonderful with these kids and agree with other posters that he would make a wonderful teacher, you know, if this superstar thing doesn’t work out, lol.

Do you have a link to that?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Josh said it for us all–Adam has a presence!   It’s called that “IT Factor” that comes along once in a great while.   Been watching this show since it started and do truly believe these kids were more excited seeing Adam than any other guest.   Cameron not only got to play for Adam, who he admittedly adores, but when he hit the stage singing WWFM, he gave it his all, as did all these kids.   I Think Adam was like a shot of adrenalin to them all during this performance.   WOW!

Adam was a wonderful teacher to these kids and they did so well.  I gotta watch it again.

Also, Queen/Adam collaboration should happen again for sure.   I hope one day Queen creates couple of new songs for Adam to sing and perform cause it’s such a waste of talent to see Queen playing old songs because of loss of Freddie.  May and Taylor are both mega talented musicians and to see their buck of creating new material stopped with loss Freddie is just a waste of talent.

  • Fullmoon

Queen has a whole catalog of songs that Freddie never got to record. ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dera-Aden/100002123003882 Dera Aden

Taylor said Adam is one in a 100 million as a great vocal performer.  Let’s hope May and Taylor give couple of those unrecorded songs to Adam.

  • Anonymous

That was good! I was all pumped-up just watching those kids rockin’ WWFM like pros on stage. Looks like the audience was impressed. They had a blast and so were the mainstay coaches. Lol, at Cameron (?) throwing the guitar. Nice to hear him say that it was his favorite performance out of all the performances they’ve done so far.
Once again Adam did an awesome job. The kids really took his advice to heart.  Funny to hear a kid describing Adam’s “presence”. Even them can sense it, lol.

Loved watching these videos. Thanks for getting them posted so quickly. Adam is such a great mentor, and so good with kids. He doesn’t talk down to them and treats them with respect. He gave them good advice which they all seemed to take on board. They all seemed very excited to see him, and they did a great job with the final performance……and of course, he looked stunning!

  • Anonymous

Those kids are awesome and adorable! Loved that performance. They were so into the song. Such talent. Adam did a great job with them. Have to watch that again..and again……  :)

  • fuzzywuzzy

I hope that overly enthusiastic Glamberts don’t invade that site.  lol  I’m curious about the Queen fans – what were their opinions of Adam’s performance at the EMAs?

  • fuzzywuzzy

What a great bunch of talented kids!  I was impressed with Adam’s mentoring of these budding stars.  He exudes enthusiasm and positivity, and has an effective way of critiquing in such an encouraging way.  Adam was astute in his observations of each  “minor”, giving individual and personal comments, as well as helpful general advice.  He displayed all of the best qualities of an outstanding teacher.  Lucky kids.

  • Emmy

I might have to watch this a few more times. ;)  Not only does Adam know what he’s talking about, but he’s very good at relaying it to the kids and in a very positive manner.

  • cwm

Thanks for posting these videos, MJ. Adam did a fantastic job as mentor. I appreciated this even more the second time I watched him interacting with the kids. He was simultaneously encouraging, positive, specific, constructive, honest, engaging, and helpful. And might I add he looked GREAT!

Loved hearing him sing WWFM to the kids, and I loved hearing WWFM being sung over and over again so enthusiastically. The kids’ performance of WWFM at the end was really really good!

  • koshka

Fullmoom I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for May to lose Freddie. Its not like may would suddenly stop writing, but what do u do when it’s bottled up? Even writing in those days, month after Feddie’s death, he probably only heard Freddie’s voice when he wrote.

It would be nice if they could get a handful of guest vocalists to record some of the unreleased tracks. I think that would be the best way to handle it. None the less, I can’t wait to hear the demos!

  • Anonymous

I like your idea koshka… yeah.. hope they would think of this, so their songs would be heard around the world.

  • asifclueless

    Thanks …mj… for the videos.

Love them. I didn’t realize the first one was in black and white until the end.

We, overseas people, don’t get the broadcast. Really appreciate this site.

The kids are adorable and talented. I can’t help but, to smile, laugh, and giggle with their enthusiasm. They listen and take his advise. Some of them have improved tremendously.  WAY TO GO, KIDS!!!

Adam is a good mentor as usual. He looks great and gives valuable advise.

  • Moria Polonius

Kids did a great job. I already have some favorites: the little girl in pink blouse, Cameron, the black boy with high voice and a few more. I think I’m going to download this show because it looks way more enjoyable than X-Factor.

from Queen’s official site administrator said “I don’t think we have seen the last of that particular (Queen & Adam)collaboration…” Squeeee!!!

I’ve seen that quote from the Queen site administrator on Adam fansites, but I just read it that the person wouldn’t be surprised if the collaboration happened again because in general people liked it and talked about it, not that she/he has inside information about it actually being worked on.

I hope that overly enthusiastic Glamberts don’t invade that site.

I believe it’s some 3 years too late to wish for that.

I’m curious about the Queen fans – what were their opinions of Adam’s performance at the EMAs?

From what I’ve been able to gather, some are okay with it saying that while Adam’s no Freddie, he’s a hella of a singer, some think Adam’s not worthy of licking Freddie’s boots and Queen should have completely retired instead of selling out and working with the likes of Adam and Gaga.

  • koshka

Moria Polonius… LOL this totally summed up all my thoughts. No need to write any comments. :)

Can’t wait to have his new electro dance pop album in my hands!

  • Dakota01

Adam did a great job with the kids.  They are a very talented bunch.

Interesting tidbit … a DJ/PD in Singapore tweeted that he has previewed songs from Adam’s new album.  He made sure to clarify that the songs were NOT BFM.  He basically said he couldn’t say anything more at the moment but that we would be updated “soon”.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

I love seeing Adam working with the kids.  They are so talented!  He just has the right attitude. Who says Group Performances can’t be exciting?

I was no Glambert but really liked Adam in Season 8.  My favorite mentoring session in Season 9 was Adam mentoring.  I have watched his session with Siobhan about 28 times!  LOL!  There was such positive vibes going on.  Of course, Kara and especially Simon squashed that performance with their comments.  But the look on Adam’s face was more important than waht was coming out of Simon’s mouth.

I have played Queen’s performance featuring Adam Lambert more than 20 times.  I hope they will do it again!  Queen – retire?  I certainly hope not!

  • Anonymous

While the EMAs performance was fabulous,  I hope it stays a one off.  He does need to focus on his solo career.  He needs to go out there and sing his OWN songs and make a long standing career doing that not singing Queen songs.  It’s my opinion.

The whole frenzy about Adam and Queen was more so made by his fans than the general media.  The media were positive about it of course, but they’ve moved on.  IMO, the fans who want Adam to continue to sing with Queen either just love Adam doing rock songs which he is wisely not doing for his own album,  or I don’t even know.

This is just my opinion.  I’m way ready to say Bah Bye to the word Queen for another year at least, in this fandom. Honestly, while to the more older generations Queen remain one of the most popular and reknowned rock bands, for the people of my generation (I just turned 20) Queen is generally more of an abstract notion. We know they existed and they were grand but it does nothing to us, because frankly we’ve never heard them, and don’t even want to. We have the music of today, we like enough. Frankly, I want Adam to be the Katy Perry not the Queen’s singer redux.

  • Anonymous

I do too. I loved that performance for what I think it did for Adam’s profile in Europe. But I am not one of hte fans who want him to become known as Queen’s new singer, or be their vocalist for new recordings. It was a epic, one of a kind performance…and I want to keep it that way…not be first if a series.

  • Anonymous

While I like KP, she is not even on the same planet as Queen in terms of musical importance. I simply cannot see a downside to Adam’s association with Queen, they are respected freakin’ legends and this EMA performance went a long way to expose Adam to the European market in a very positive way. This performance highlighted the best of Adam, his vocal ability and mastery of the stage, at a time when he has no music of his own to promote. I agree that this is great promo during what would otherwise be a completely barren period in terms of exposure.
Of course he needs to go out there and sing his OWN songs but that is not going to happen for a couple of months yet so a bit of recognition for what sets Adam apart from most of the pop climate, his voice, is only going to help provide more interest when he is actually promoting his own music. This association is a big, big coup in Adam’s resume, maybe not so much to young people like yourself but to music big wigs, PDs, critics, bloggers and such. And these people play just an important part in an artists career as the fans themselves, IMO.

  • Anonymous

I hope Adam has lots and lots of kids someday. He just has a way with them. And he looks so damn handsome in those clips.

IMO, the fans who want Adam to continue to sing with Queen either just love Adam doing rock songs which he is wisely not doing for his own album,  or I don’t even know.””

Eh, I have to disagree with this statement. Queen is not just your average classic rock band. They never go out of style and just about all your current artists have been inspired by them. Elton John, Gerard Way,Gaga, George Michael, Axl Rose,Foo Fighters etc. have all stepped in at one point or another to sing with them. It’s a HUGE honor and not one that alot of people will let go of so quickly. Brian May is still one of the best guitarists of all time. MCR fans are eating up the performance they did with Queen at Reading this summer just like we are because, again it is a HUGE honor to do so. And if you are not familiar with Queen, you should be, IMHO.

  • Fullmoon

This!!. I didn’t know what to say about that post but you said it perfectly.
I do think it’s cute that his younger fans are taking over the fandom. It is how it should be but there are younger fans who also appreciates artists that came before them. I don’t think we need to worry about Adam joining Queen as a band but collaborations between young artists and artists that influenced them have been going on forever. Here’s a cute video of a 13yr old on her impression of the EMA performance.

Finally watched all the videos and Adam was wonderful at mentoring; he looked great and the kids were really talented and fun to watch.

Re the Queen-thing, I certainly don’t see more collaberation with them as anything but a positive.  Adam has already said he wants to do his own *thang*, so no fear of him losing his focus, “eye on the prize” and all that…

  • Anonymous

I don’t get this channel and as far as I know EVAs haven’t been shown in the US yet. That said, I have to say it’s a drag that Adam’s new single wasn’t released in November. He’ll miss the whole Jingle Ball thing and most likely won’t release the new music until February at the earliest. I’m not a fan of Adam but I do enjoy following Idol singles so I’m kind of bummed. I’m just not into country music.

Plus it’s obvious alot of promo was set up to create buzz for the single in November and now that’s down the drain. I’m not saying he won’t get a good send off in 2012 but I would enjoy following a Pop Idol single now.

The PD didn’t sound very enthusiastic. Neither do Radio 1.

  • http://twitter.com/TheLambertLuvva TheLambert Luvva

We learned something interesting from a post on one of Adam’s fan sites. A die-hard Queen fan who belongs to many Queen sites says that the negative comments on the Queen sites are not from long time members. They are members who either recently joined after the EMAs or who have not posted since May 2009, when Queen gave positive comments to Adam. So the conclusion is that these are most likely fans of other artists who dislike Adam or just people who dislike Adam, and not long-time Queen fans. Same goes for the negative comments elsewhere like YouTube, as some of these people have the same usernames. I was suspecting something like this as the number of dislikes on the videos was really low (like in single digits), but there would be continual negative comments, usually by just a few people. Some would even call Adam flamboyant, derogatory gay comments, OTT, etc. all the things Freddie was known for, so I wondered if they were really Queen fans or just Adam haters.

  • Anonymous

I don’t remember a lot of promo but the EMA performance is going to last him a while.  His videos are all over the lists on the MTV site so people must be checking out his music after seeing the Queen performance.  That’s huge for getting new fans on board, imho.

  • http://twitter.com/TheLambertLuvva TheLambert Luvva

What did Radio 1 say? All I have heard was glowing comments from the people at the listening party in the UK.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Oh, I’m sure that the BSC Claymates were out in force to bash Adam everywhere on the internet.  lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

I had that impression too from the PD.  I didn’t see anything from Radio 1 about Adam’s new music.  Was there a tweet or article about this?

  • Anonymous

“His videos are all over the lists on the MTV site so people must be checking out his music after seeing the Queen performance. That’s huge for getting new fans on board, imho.”

How do new fans in the States even know about this performance since the show hasn’t aired here? Unless it has. I’m guessing Adam fans are checking this out or maybe the OTT fans are pushing up the view count. That’s kind of par for the course.

I think most of the EVA buzz for Adam is probably overseas which makes sense. Still now would be great time for the single. Whatever buzz the EVA generated, the time to take advantage of it would be now. Most casual fans have very short memories.

  • Anonymous

Lambert Luvva- what a shocker, lol. I kind of thought the same thing too. Anyone who knew who Freddie was certainly knew he was gay and that he was also flamboyant, and those were the most common complaints. And anyone who went through the Paul Rogers era of Queen and said Adam couldn’t sing ( O_O ) are included with that. Paul Rogers is a great singer……with Bad Company, but as a Freddie replacement, not so much. The guy doesn’t have half of Adam’s or freddie’s range. You also had the Marc Martel stans thrown in for good measure. I was super impressed by Martel’s STL video, and even posted it here. But he also sang BoRhap, which kind of exposed him as a one ( cover) hit wonder.

And then of course you have the people who just don’t like Adam’s voice or style of singing, which is perfectly acceptable. Different Strokes and all that- but you could tell the majority of negative comments had an agenda.

JPfan- the EMA’s were shown in the US on the Spanish MTV station, which most extended cable owners have. That’s not a huge number, but alot of people watched online streams too. People tend to forget onlime streams are kind of popular now, don’t have specific numbers but I do remember reading that it was a large portion of viewership.

  • http://twitter.com/TheLambertLuvva TheLambert Luvva

He gained a lot of new Twitter followers (5K in the two days after the performance, 10K in less than a week), lots more FB likes (I think I read 10K), and on Adam Official, the users online counter has been consistently over 500. Before the EMAs, it was in the 300s. Posted this before but there is a Twitter account, AdamImpresses, which is tracking positive tweets from the performance.

  • Anonymous

I have to agree that Adam fans are pushing up the majority of the view count on MTV because seriously, no one even posts on that site anymore. I wonder how many hits it even gets these days. And there are countrless ” I have watched this video so many times I lost count” comments on there. Nothing wrong with that, though- keeps his cute little pictures all over that site, lol. It reminds me when all his videos from season 8 were plastered all over the Itunes top 20 videos ( although that was just from people buying them). Good times, good times.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HDFBWEFJRU3YZDSYNGBBFY3JSQ Adolf Hipster

Eh, if the single is sh*t it will flop in november, if it’s great it will take off in january/february. It really doesn’t matter that much. General public knows who he is for the most part, so that’s one obstacle most idol people face out of the way already.

I guess these extra promo opportunities are nice for the fans, but the most important thing will be the song and promo spots where he gets to sing the new song.

  • Anonymous

he actually would have had a lot more twitter followers than that but for some reason there was a glitch on twitter where everyone kept unfollowing him. My account randomly unfollowed him, and when I would refollow, it would do it again later. Same with alot of people on my feed.

  • CindyM

    JPfan:
How do new fans in the States even know about this performance since the show hasn’t aired here? Unless it has. I’m guessing Adam fans are checking this out or maybe the OTT fans are pushing up the view count. That’s kind of par for the course.

In addition to the EMAs being shown live on MTV3, they’ve also been shown on Logo and will be broadcast on MTV this week. How did other people find out? There were articles on the performance on some radio.station websites, MTV had an article, all the gossip blogs, People and US weekly showed pictures including Adam with Katy Perry, AOL, Yahoo, THR, Huffington Post, VH1 and lots of music blogs did stories. It’s a wide wide internet out there.

Also, if the single couldn’t come out in October, I’m glad they’re waiting because of the XMas freeze. I don’t ever think promo is down the drain as it keeps the artist in the public eye. The idea that between projects an artist should be hidden is what leads to so many “Who?” Reactions and an uphill battle to get recognition again.

JPfan. You’ve always got Kelly and Daughtry to track :)

  • http://twitter.com/TheLambertLuvva TheLambert Luvva

Totally agree. I thought marchle was a non-fan. Anyway, marchle, please provide the source of Radio 1 not liking Adam’s music. I wasn’t aware that anyone from there was at a listening party. As for Singapore, I didn’t get what the PD said was negative. You have to remember, Singapore is a country who loves Adam. I believe it was the first country where he went Platinum, and I think he had more than two singles there. Also, the people at the listening parties heard many songs. It would be odd if someone like the PD hated all of them.

I got so off topic talking about Queen I forgot to mention that I think that group number of WWFM is my favorite non Adam performance. Each one of those kids gave it their all and it actually sounded good. I think they really took his advice to heart.

Oh, and Adam looks hot. Had to mention that again. Please grow back that hair Adam. Signed, Ihadanasymmetricalhaircutinthe80sandregretthattoo.

Amazingly, BFM has been in the top 100 on Amazon for the last three days. My conclusion is that these are from new fans from the EMAs or from casual fans who don’t know that this isn’t Adam’s new album.

Radio 1 didn’t hear the new music.

MJ:”He gave them tips, constructive criticism and encouragement and was
    extraordinarily kind
    with his young charges.”

“Extraordinarily kind” is one of my favorite descriptions of Adam I have read in this past weeks entire news blitz  :)
It is the icing on the whole cake that is Adam!
It’s also what will keep bringing me back no matter how long it takes to make an album or how ridiculous his hair looks.

He’s one of the good guys.

  • AllenTX

sorry for asking, I haven’t follow adam’s news for quite a while. so Adam’s album is already completely finished? when is the single coming out?

  • Anonymous

it’s unclear (to me, anyway) if the album is completely finished or if they are just playing selected songs for PDs overseas at these listening parties. There has been no official announcement on when the single will be released — most people guess that it will probably be in January.

Amazing review from John Kearns in The Irish News

     http://bit.ly/tVKZKO

    A new Glambert, YAY!!!!

  • Anonymous

IKR? I was thinking, was this written by one of us?lol Talk about flailing! Anyway, this has got to get some people’s attention just to check Adam out to see if he lives up to this praise, haha. Love it!

  • Anonymous

I noticed that as well.  Strange – had to follow people again.

  • Dakota01

I don’t think Adam’s album is finished but probably close.  Case in point … the recent collaboration with Nile Rodgers.  If he’s looking at a February or March release, there’s still time to select tracks, do final tweaking, etc.  According to a tweet last week from one of the UK PDs who said he heard six tracks, a decision on the first single hadn’t yet been made.  Apparently there are three contenders. Hopefully the feedback from these listening parties helped to narrow it down.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we will hear soon that the single will be released in January or February at the latest.

  • Anonymous

Another English PD tweeted that Adam said that they have 16 songs that they have to narrow down to 12 for the final track listing.  So I took that to mean that the album is very much in the final phases.

  • Anonymous

Is The Irish News basically UK’s version of examiner.com? I see some errors in the article. I’ll be happy when we get an equally amazing review from an unbiased, reputable source such as NYT.

  • Anonymous

I believe you are right on about fans pushing up view count. I’ve been seeing on twitter a few adam fan twitter pages rallying for fans to drive up votes and views on the MTV website.

  • Anonymous

GREAT version of WWFM by these kids.

  • Anonymous

Marchle, did you ever find a link to that Radio 1 comment?  I’m interested because Radio 1 wasn’t at the listening party, right?

  • mmb

No the Irish News is a published periodical, not like the Examiner. And John Kearns has a radio show in Ireland ( a real one on a real broadcast radio station). He also does arts/entertainment/nightlife reporting for the Irish News.

  • Anonymous

One of the things I particularly liked was Adam telling the kids was how important  their behavior with the people they work with will be to their futures. That’s good advise for any career, not just the music business.  The networking advise was awesome as well. I always appreciated how Adam uses his Twitter account to spread good news about his friends or artists he admires. That’s savvy, and these kids who are just starting out at 12 or 13 need to learn that the internet tools can work in their favor.

  • Anonymous

Given that Adam spent some time in London spreading his new music around with as many djs/pds as possible, he’d be silly not to have sent the music to the top radio station in UK. He’s not silly, and his goal is to aim for world wide success with the second album so I’m pretty sure he did.

  • Anonymous

That may very well be true, but it’s an assumption.  So the whole BB1 hated Adam’s music is an assumption over an assumption?  I like these odds.  Thanks.

  • Anonymous

I agree. The most impressive thing about Adam, to me, is how he’s conducted himself and his interactions with people he’s worked with. I have to admit he’s gone through several of ups and downs just a few years into his career- and he’s handled himself admirably through it all without any diva-ish behavior or OTT outbursts.

  • Miss Chaos

Are the listening partys subjected to a code of silence, that not.one.darn.person can give us a small sample or hint of any of the songs, just that they are awsome, mindblowing.what ever else you can think of!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mmb

I wouldn’t assume that Adam went to Radio 1 (it doesn’t appear that he did) He went to a few, select outlets. Mostly print entertainment reporters. He didn’t do a full tour of radio stations. This was a preliminary trip to build sone buzz and get some feedback tied into the EMAs. He has another trip scheduled for January ( presumably when his single drops) and I would expect him to make the radio rounds ( including radio 1) at that point.

  • Miss Chaos

Adam sounded great when he sang the song for the kids too:)!!

  • http://twitter.com/kms15423 KMS

His UK PR rep said on twitter that Adam will be back in the UK in January, so this is the basis for an educated guess that it will be for the new single promo.

shoshannastone @UKGlambert Adam’s first big UK press interview will run in January.

  • http://twitter.com/kms15423 KMS

I have a close friend who’s parents were horribly racist, yet she was able to overcome this and is one of the nicest, most accepting persons I know. It can be done.

  • Anonymous

Yes, I agree, it is very impressive how Adam is able to conduct himself admirably in such a way as to earn the respect and admiration of so many different individuals in the music industry, despite the negative labels that some people seem to take so much effort in trying to associate with him.

  • http://twitter.com/moni0112 Monica
  • fuzzywuzzy

No, it’s just that I would have expected him to make some kind of general “It’s fantastic!” kind of comment, even if he wasn’t in a position to say anything more.  Maybe, I’m just reading too much into it?

  • Anonymous

Print media makes more sense now anyway. Takes time to do the interview, get it scheduled for print. Shoot any photos involved if necessary (ie Times)

Radio promo will come when there is an actual single to talk about and when it’s time for adds. I expect a Radio 1 visit in January.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Thanks for clarifying that.  When you posted that Radio 1 didn’t sound “enthusiastic” about Adam’s new music, I didn’t realize that was total speculation and not based on any information from anyone at Radio 1.  So, not only are you assuming that Adam played his new music for execs at Radio 1, you also assumed that they weren’t enthusiastic about it? OK. lol

  • http://twitter.com/TheLambertLuvva TheLambert Luvva

I am still not sure where speculation or assumption came from because I don’t see anything but glowing comments from the UK listening party.

  • Anonymous

I agree, it seems like this aspect of the music business is not touched on very much in the mentoring sections of all these various singing shows. I am glad Adam discussed it. So many opportunities have come Adam’s way due to the relationships he forged, including the Queen gig.

  • fuzzywuzzy

True.  Just because a person is raised with certain attitudes and biases doesn’t mean that they have to continue in the same path.

  • fuzzywuzzy

It turns out that marchie assumed that Adam had played his music for Radio 1, then assumed that they weren’t “enthusiastic” about it, without any information from anyone at Radio 1.  lol

That’s what I was getting at with my post about the dj/pd not sounding enthusiastic. I might’ve been wrong about Radio 1, but it did seem that the immediate reaction of the dj in Singapore was pretty ‘blah’ about the new material.

  • Anonymous

sounding blah =/= cant say anything about the material

    just saying

  • Anonymous

Wow, loved hearing Roger Taylor talk in these glowing terms about Adam! The rock radio guy seemed very complimentary as well. Adam fit in “effortlessly”, this is great.

  • Anonymous

Well, it certainly wasn’t good or different enough to warrant immediate excitement.

  • Anonymous

Or, was so stunned at the sheer awesomeness of the material he could not do justice to it in words and chose to keep what he thought to himself for fear of embarrassing himself with all his Glambert fanboying! Just as likely a scenario given the same information we have.

  • Moria Polonius

I believe most people are able to decide for themselves what warrants their immediate excitement. It’s kinda a subjective thing.

  • Anonymous

Well, it certainly wasn’t good or different enough to warrant immediate excitement.

I don’t understand your argument. You’re saying even though the guy isn’t allowed to say anything, he should have said something? Some of the London people who heard the album had to delete tweets after spilling what I assume was too much information.

Roger Taylor and Brian May only ever have such nice, glowing things to say about Adam. It must be surreal for Adam to have been a big Queen fan to have them say such amazing things. I love it!

  • fuzzywuzzy

You “might have been wrong about Radio 1″?  lol  What about admitting the you made up that part entirely?

  • Anonymous

I was right about one radio station but not radio 1.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Good point made here.   Freddie was OTT with everything, much more than Adam is.   I am an old time Queen fan, and totally got Adam as their frontman.   Pretty sure other Queen fans felt the same way.

  • Anonymous

I know! I have been a HUGE Queen fan for years- I think Sheer Heart Attack was one of the first albums I ever bought. I have seen many guest vocalists with them- George Michael up until Adam was always my favorite. People need to forget about “replacing” Freddie and replace it with “honoring” him. It would be sheer bliss if I ever got to hear my favorite Queen songs come out of Adam’s mouth. I feel scorned every time I watch the EMA performance when they go into Under Pressure, only to sweep it out from under my feet- UGH!

  • Moria Polonius

As much as I find the current direction of the discussion irresistible, I have a question. Loosely connected to the official thread topic, even.

I feel like WWFM has been covered a million times all over the world on various singing shows. Has a song by another Idol been ever as ~successful in that circuit? Carrie? Kelly? Cook?

  • dana80

So nice to hear Roger Taylor saying nice stuff about Adam. I’ve been a fan of Queen for a long time and when Roger Taylor, who spent his career next to Freddie Mercury says that somebody has an exceptional voice, I believe him.

  • Anonymous

It would be sheer bliss for me to have Adam sing his own songs in all the pretty award shows and not Queen songs.  #differentstrokes

I’d be happy if Adam never sang with Queen again, at least for another couple of years.  A special one-off performance would be changed into Lambert who?  Oh the guy who’s doing Queen songs? pretty fast, in my opinion.

Dusting off this old account to post a few things here. I don’t see any Brits posting (though I may be wrong) so here’s some info from someone a bit closer to the action, so to speak.
Firstly, Radio 1 is not the biggest radio station in the UK, that would be Radio 2. Not that it is a major point but, well, I do like to be accurate where I can!
Secondly, as far as I am aware, Adam didn’t do any BBC radio promo last time AT. ALL. Capital FM were good to him, responded positively and played him quite a bit, for a newbie. Again, as far as I am aware, Capital FM (now national btw, previously regional) was the only radio meeting he had while in the UK last week. Chart show chat, if I am remembering correctly that that happened, would be TV and the rest was written press.
Thirdly, though I am looking for news, there seems to be a bit more in the way of coverage this time around. Not all good (looking at you Mirror Madam of the Supper Club article!!) but definitely largely positive since the EMAs. It’s still a trickle but his name crops up now and then, more so than in late 2009, and we are not into promo mode yet. I even see the odd mention of him in passing in non-Idol, general music forum chatter.

By the by, since the Queen fans’ comments have been mentioned in this thread, here is my two penneth: there are three flags in a comment re. the EMA performance that I look out for. A Queen fan really should not refer to Freddy, or Bryan, with a Y! A Queen fan would likely not be put off by Adam being gay, flamboyant, OTT, etc. and to say so is ludicrous given the late great Freddie’s penchant for theatrics. I question the fan of any artist who says that the music of said artist should die with them (oh yes, it was said). One of the above makes me leery of the poster’s motives; all three and I will merrily laugh and point! j/k

Hi by the way, long time no see! :-D Oh and apologies for the tl;dr!

  • Moria Polonius

It’s always good to see a different perspective!

Here is what seems to be upsetting a lot of Queen fans that I know of.  In the past, when Queen performed after Freddie’s death, they made great pains as to say “Queen featuring  “So and So” ” (Paul Rodgers, etc.)  This time they were simply announced as Queen (no featuring Adam Lambert, etc.)

I tried to point this out the evening of the show but some folks interpreted my comments as thinking I was upset or I was nitpicking or something and I dropped it.

Adam fans might think this is a minor point, but Queen fans, especially those incredibly loyal to Freddie and his legacy, immediately took note of the change. It was questioned as a gesture that indicated someone was trying to take Freddie’s place, especially given that the band opened with “The Show Must Go On”, one of Freddie’s last recorded songs and the last cut on the band’s last album together.

(Freddie BTW was dying, too weak to stand, when the song was recorded, but managed to cut the most difficult part of the vocals in one take according to May, He never performed the song in front of an audience).

So the question that raged through Queen’s fandom is “What show is going on?” One that paid tribute to Freddie? Or one that was an attempt to replace him?

As both an Adam and a Queen fan, I will say I was very excited to see the performance, enjoyed it greatly, loved that they performed together and may perform together in the future. However, no one, including Adam, can ever replace the genius and talent of Freddie Mercury (not that I think Adam was even trying to).

  • Anonymous

It would be sheer bliss for me to have Adam sing his own songs in all the pretty award shows and not Queen songs.  #differentstrokes

I don’t think anyone is saying they want Adam to move to fronting Queen, but rather they enjoyed the combination and wouldn’t mind seeing it again. I generally feel the same way as you, though I wouldn’t mind them doing it a few more times in the near future to keep him out on the music scene while we wait for his single.

His own music would be best, of course, but any chance to hear his voice is good for me.

Been reading more about Roger and looks like he is more than just your regular backup vocalist, so I respect his opinion on voice. I got this from queensongs.info:

“Freddie was smoking, this helped him to develop a more husky voice (that dominates the Miracle album), but also made his range somewhat narrower. He had hard times to hit high notes both on stage and in the studio. In the studio he could do another attempt until he hit the notes right, but on stage he frequently had to modify the tune to stay in his range. Other times Roger had to sing the high notes.”

In his wiki, it says he was occasional lead vocalist. All I know is that Queen’s harmonies are amazing, even better than a lot of what I have seen on The Sing-Off.

  • Anonymous

I know that has been said and it may be true. I am just pointing out the point of view I saw being circulated among blogs and the Queen fans I know. It was a break in tradition, for whatever reason, and, as changes do, it shook people up.

  • Anonymous

I loved the show and the kids’ final performance!  But what I enjoyed most was hearing some of the kids respond not just to Adam’s specific advice but to how/who he is and how he carries himself.  Respectful of others and himself, real, appreciative, encouraging, open - those are qualities I really admire. (I was raised THAT way).

I kind of thought that not mentioning Adam as the “featured” vocalist for the band Queen- was a big mistake. I know that Adam had requested to not be mentioned because he wanted the focus to be on Queen, but that sort of tricked people into thinking that he was THE new vocalist for Queen. Hence, the outcries of ‘blesphamy’ and anger towards him.

  • Moria Polonius

I don’t know about the “huge” part, but I believe it’s supposed to be The Times, so def one of the big papers.

  • Nele621

Interesting you bring up those points. I’ve seen arguments when a Queen fan refers to “Freddy” and an Adam fan questions their honesty because of their spelling. Back and forth on that. The other is that I’ve seen where they also argue about Adam being too flamboyant and OTT, and the so-called Queen fans saying Freddie was not as flamboyant as Adam nor as OTT. When I read comments like that, I’ll have to remember what you just posted.

  • Moria Polonius

I know that Adam had requested to not be mentioned because he wanted the focus to be on Queen

Where do you know it from? I’m a fan, following interviews and twitter and everything and I didn’t know.

    Source?

  • Anonymous

Simple.. If they call Adam all the things that Freddie was known for they DEFINITELY not Freddie/Queen’s fans. They’re Adam haters LOL. Like it or not the reason why people keep on talking about Adam & Freddie are because they have too many similarity between both of them; not only they have almost the same vocal range, but they both also flamboyant, very theatrical, gay and they both have that charisma and stage presence. :)

  • Starryeyed

Well hello there Studio! Damn you (or should that be darn you!?!?) for making me log back in to post again! LOL I am probably about to double my posting quota here, in one evening.

Yes, Shoshanna did tweet that the first big press interview would run in January. Notice the ‘first’. I am going to speculate and assume and make things up in saying that it implies there will be further press coverage!! ;-)

She also tweeted to a fan: “keep an eye on the Sunday Times in January :)”.Just for the record, the Sunday Times is a broadsheet. It is not on the same level as the Examiner, or even the Sun or the Mirror! LOL OK MJ, I’m sorry. I’ll leave well alone. ;-)

I hope you don’t think I am the fan arguing ‘back and forth’!! I stick to twitter and don’t do fan boards. It was just an observation. (Should I have added the IMHO disclaimer?!) And re. the ‘Freddie was less flamboyant’ comments, should it come up again, a quick google search for ‘Freddie Mercury cape crown’ should quickly put paid to that argument! ;-)

I tend to believe that most all fanbases vote over and over on the vids to get their fav’s to the number one spot.  I don’t think this practice is done only by Adams fans ex: Cook…I voted on Cookie’s vid till my fingers were bleeding..just sayin…

The new radio single the djs have is BFM and that’s not the one Adam’s coming out with. That’s an unfinished demo that was finished by others for the sake of capitalizing on Adam’s fame or if you wish, infamy.  :)
I can’t wait for January. They say his new album will be released worldwide simultaneously this time around. It’s all good going for Adam right now.

  • Anonymous

what’s a broadcast? And when you say it’s not on the same level, do you mean it’s better/worse/bigger/smaller?

I know this would make you triple your posting quota but just humor me ;)

And can you imagine Adam doing Bohemian Rhapsody fully? OMG! I would freak out! :)

After the EMAs, a so-called Queen fan tweeted that Adam was too flamboyant for Queen and peeps were cracking up, the funniest reply being “And which Freddie have you been watching for 30 years? Must be the one from Nightmare on Elm Street!”

  • Starryeyed

Hee hee! Broadsheets, to the best of my knowledge, are the big name, respected newspapers in the UK: the Times, the Guardian, etc. The matter is confused now since I think that some or most now come in tabloid size (i.e. smaller pages making it easier for commuters to read on the train! This change came about in the early 2000s I think…a little vague media history for ya!) but they are still referred to as broadsheets and they are the ones you ought to be able to trust more for accuracy. That’s to say nothing, however, of their political leanings, but that is not a discussion for this blog I imagine! ;-)

  • Anonymous

Blasphemy? lol  People can say whatever they want especially if they weren’t there themselves. One of the audience members who posted a youtube vid of the performance said Adam started out in the dark, he and the people around him were trying to guess who it was, thought it was Bruno Mars at first because of the hair updo, but when they saw it was Adam Lambert they got really excited. Said he wasn’t Freddie Mercury but did a good job. His comment is under his vid on youtube. Another girl from the audience who was not a fan before and not really familiar with him tweeted that his voice sounded amazing live and asked him to come back and do a full concert in Ireland for his new fans. Those are the comments I take to heart.. from show attendees themselves.

  • Anonymous

i saw that Bruno comment. I also loved the fan videos of people singing along.

  • Anonymous

The biggest difference between Freddie and Adam’s flamboyant behavior is this. While Freddie was an extreme extrovert onstage who pulled out every trick in the book in order to entertain and conquer his audience, off-stage he was a very shy and quiet introvert.

He also never conclusively declared his sexual orientation, one minute claiming to be “Gay as a Daffodil” while the next claiming any ‘dalliances” with males were those of “school boy pranks”. He openly lived with a woman who he called the love of his life for seven years (she ultimately inherited the bulk of his estate) with whom he was frequently photographed offstage but later distanced himself from his long-term male lover whenever photographs or recordings were taken. (remember that when Freddie and Queen hit it big in the early seventies homosexuality had been legal in Britain for less than a decade). He hid his HIV status for several years and never publically confirmed that he had AIDS until the day before he died.

Some saw Freddie’s actions as a statement of “I am who I am, no explainations, deal with it” while some said he was in hiding.  Basically some fans realized he was bi or homosexual and accepted it, while others took the Clay Aiken denial train. This. afterall, was the age of Led Zepplin (Freddie’s favorite band), Alice Cooper, David Bowie and many others whose onstage personna was OTT too.

Adam, of course, is who he is without excuses. His flamboyant behavior onstage has not hit the heights of Freddie’s onstage, but then again he doesn’t retreat from the limelight offstage as Freddie did.

Re the MTV videos, you also have to remember that many of Adams fans live outside the US (like me!!) and are unable to view his videos on MTV, so his viewing numbers could be a lot higher if only we were allowed to watch the bloody things….
and maybe some of those views are from new fans who saw the EMA performance and wanted to check out what else he’s done.
Isn’t it true of all music videos that its fans that make the viewing numbers go up, why would you want to watch a music video of someone you didn’t like?

  • Anonymous

I finally was able to watch Major and Minors. The kids are very talented. Adam did a great job. For Queen. I think fans are just over analyzing things a bit too much.  It was a great performance. Adam did a great job. Brian and Roger are happy and that all that matters. There will always be negative detractors for Adam, But I was looking at other comments on different blogs and a majority of comments were positive and they realized that Adam is not Freddy, but he did a great job singing.  And a lot of comments mentioned who else could sing it.  A lot of comments mentioned that they are going to check out Adam. This was such a positive experience and I sure that it help him gain new fans. All and all, great job.

PS: It has to be hard deciding which kid to win Major and Minors, they are all very talented.  I wonder how they decide?

I forgot how over the top Freddy was. I enjoyed the links to some of Freddies outfits. I forgot how outrageous Freddy was. Adam almost seems tame, but some of Adam’s Zodiac costumes were pretty out there also. They are very similar.

I agree. I can’t view any of the MTV videos. The views would be higher if outside the US can view them.  I also think that it is mainly new people are checking him out, especially the Time for Miracles video in which I love. I’m more of a ballard type of person and Time for Miracles shows off his powerful voice and his range the best.  The video itself is a bit cheesy. I like the same actors and actress running by him.  But he looks great in it.

Are there quotes from Adam about what he did or didn’t request (AND why) as far as being introduced?  Because I haven’t seen quotes from Adam regarding that; I’ve only seen . . . speculation.  I’ve seen lots of praise for his performance.  Accolades even from Queen, from viewers, from critics.  As far as cries of “blasphemy” (or “blesphamy” for that matter) – well, can’t please everyone.  If he’d been introduced as “featured vocalist” someone else (maybe even the same people?) would’ve complained about that.

To met that just looks like Terrance quoted a fan that tweeted that, not that it’s coming from Terrance himself. He may have assumed that fan knew more than he did (LOL so often we do).

I think we’re gonna have to wait for future Adam interviews to find out for sure whether it was planned and whose idea it was.

Jesus, stanning Adam requires so much attention. I wasn’t around for the era #1;  I’m scared to think what it’s going to be like when the new music is out and he’s in the full promo mode.

(I love Uh Huh Her too, I’m glad Adam introduced their music to me.)

but that sort of tricked people into thinking that he was THE new
vocalist for Queen. Hence, the outcries of ‘blesphamy’ and anger towards
    him.

I think that was the best strategy, classy and practical; first of all it was a tribute, Adam put his vocal-signature in his performance and not copying Freddie’s, so no blame for “stealing”/imitating FM style; Adam’s stage-presence is different too, his flamboyant style is more classy-elegant than punky. Moreover, there will be no new Queen music, without Freddie, there will be only some vocalists for some concerts. I don’t know about Journey’s status now with Arnel Pineda, they have a different situation because of business-problems.  Queen will never be Queen again, not even a new-Queen, FM is sanctified for good. So, I think there wouldn’t  be a general anger if Adam goes for more concerts with Queen.

Whatever the reasoning behind it, I’m thrilled they started that way. Having him begin in shadow with just his vocal as the focus allowed people to have a first impression unswayed by any preconceptions about Adam. It also served to highlight the music being tributed rather than the featured artist. Win/Win.

Queen never performed the entire Bohemian Rhapsody live on stage. They left the stage when the operatic section began as a recording of their voices began. They did this out of respect to their fans because the members of Queen said the live version would never equal the layered sound they produced in the studio.
For Adam to perform it with Queen now would be considered the ultimate heresy.

Thank you yahyahyahyah that makes perfect sense. I wasn,t thinking in blog terms. This is all new to me. I still have a lot to learn.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Don’t worry.  That’s a good thing.  :)

I just listened to the radio interview with Roger Taylor and he said they will be doing it again with Adam. He said it was a great fit. I guess you all must be flailing over that. I did catch the performance and I agree with MJ it was a good fit.

Hold on tight, it’s a bumpy ride! LOL

I hope if Adam does another performance with Queen, it could be a charity benefit, maybe in Freddie’s honor. AIDS Benefit perhaps.  I would think Queen fans would have a hard time criticizing a worthy cause like that. And it’s a great cause for Adam to support as well, especially with his hot/cold relationship with the gay media, although that seems to be getting better.

Here is it straight from Roger Taylor himself never mind a site administrator. http://www.box.net/s/p1kdhizxsnlnf6mzsbxm

Hahaha, I swear, one day I’m going to write an entire post composed just of internet acronyms. Every new forum/community I join has its own language. It’s like learning English all over again every single time.

Actually, I’m impressed that MJ hasn’t rapped our knuckles yet for taking this thread off topic, but as someone mentioned earlier, the Queen, EMA is buried too far down.  But to keep it on topic, I watched the video of Adam mentoring the kids and it has to be a hard choice to pick the winner. The young lad playing the guitar (Cameron I think) is very good.

    Yes.. thank you MJ.. :)

And now, I’m really closing this thread for awhile.

Hethran, on Majors and Minors, each of the kids is working on an original song and they’ll perform that near the end and pretty much the decision of who wins is made after that performance. I love all of them. It’s gonna be a tough decision.

Thank you KMS! I do love me some Terrance too. lol
