Newly minted Top 12 contestants, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen are on rethe interview circuit today.

The Seacrest interview this morning:

Adam Lambert says he hopes to see Matt Giraud back for the Wildcard.

Allison Iraheta is super excited to talk to the Good Day LA people. She watches them every day! Adam, also from LA, could care less.

“Norman was brilliant,” says Adam about Nick Mitchell. And Adam, without naming names, hints strongly that no one got along with Tatiana Del Toro.

Good Day LA

Good Day New York asks Adam about his professional experience, and he admits he has a lot of theater experience, but very little on TV and that he’s still getting used to it.

Kris Allen so far? Boring as a rock.

Interview with Good Day New York, after the JUMP…

Good Day New York:

  • dcisluv

Kris definitely needs to work on his interview skeels. But I don’t think he’s boring at all. I actually like Adam a little more as a person… but I still don’t like his singing style.

  • primeminister

Awwh that was incredibly sweet of Adam to pick Matt Giraud and give him props, especially since Matt really faltered on Wednesday.

  • soundscene

I don’t expect the contestants to be great at interviews yet. Some will be natural in the spotlight and others just won’t be. It’s very new to most of them. But they’ll learn. Kris endeared me to him on last night’s show. He was really into the group number, and he was dancing all over the place when Adam was singing. He also seemed genuinely shocked and appreciative to move through.

I actually enjoyed his performance more than others apparently did. It was the wrong song, of course, but he sang it with a liveliness, and his vocals were pretty good (better than many). His version of it last night was even better, sung with pure joy. The audience was feeling it. I do want Jesse to move through to the top 12 because I really like her, but I’m not upset at all that Kris was put through.

Kris Allen, without naming names, hints strongly that no one got along with Tatiana Del Toro.

Really? :rolleyes_wp: I didn’t get along with her, either.

  • holeighannie

I didn’t think Kris was boring at all…I see a little bit of Jason Castro in his interviews, haha, but certainly not boring. He’s just a guy from Arkansas, he doesn’t have the “OMG, I’m 16 and excited!” card to play or the extroverted personality of Adam. I couldn’t agree more with soundscene’s first paragraph; Kris seems the most genuinely excited of anyone there, he really gets into everything and gives a real response to whatever happens. And his humility doesn’t grate my nerves, which is amazing, because I always end up hating the humble people, haha.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

If anything, Kris seems extremely nervous to be in the spotlight. I caught that after his performance Tuesday night when he was talking to Ryan. He was stammering.

Allison, on the other hand, is a typical teenager and not so self-absorbed. She’s not all perfect – just herself, like it or not.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think Kris was boring at allà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I see a little bit of Jason Castro in his interviews, haha, but certainly not boring.

Hm. I never found Jason boring, just a little tongue-tied during interviews.

I thought Kris’s vocal was about technically on par with the previous night’s. He tried to go for a big song with a big voice, but he doesn’t have the vocal chops to pull it off. The performance last night was elevated by his obvious joy, so in that sense it was better.

I liked his initial audition and the stuff he did in the group round. With the right kind of material he could impress me. We’ll see.

But so far, for me, he’s like Wonder Bread.

    We’ll see what happens.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Oh Jason wasnt boring, he was funny and some thought he came off dum(but he is far from dum) but boring? No – he was one of the reasons everyone said that the show was different and unique last year. Still dont get Kris at all, his singing or now this but we shall see I guess. Is this interview stuff what they did in previous years? This is my first year on MJ’s from the very very start so I never saw any of this before.

  • Dr. Tracey

They all seem nice and genuine or genuinely nice LOL
The ‘OMG!’ thing will drive me nuts after awhile but I do like Allison’s singing voice, Kris is a likable guy and even Adam who creeps me out for personal reasons seems like a sweetheart to me, I hope he loses the peter pan hair do though, it looks like a bad hat.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Alison is pretty damn cute. She’s like Jordin. Infectious enthusiasm. I loved her round face comment. LOL.

Like Adam a lot! He comes off well.

Kris seems nice, but yes, boring. I can’t compare him to Jason, because I’m biased. :-)

ETA: I will say that at least Jason’s face told a story, even if he couldn’t come up with the words. LOL.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Is this interview stuff what they did in previous years?

Normally, they’re not interviewed until they get the big boot. I think these interviews are a result of the new format. I guess we’re supposed to get to know them better since we won’t be seeing them until Top 12.

Which makes me wonder how they’re going to handle next week?

I hope he loses the peter pan hair do though, it looks like a bad hat.

He and Allison can make that trip to the hair stylist together.

  • holeighannie

Haha, I did not mean to imply at all that Jason was boring, he was my favorite Idol last year. I meant to say that Kris wasn’t boring, just awkward at times, like Jason was, especially in the beginning. Kris doesn’t know how to flesh out an answer (“Were you the cause of Kara and Simon’s fight?” “Uhh…IDK?”) and he got some long pauses from the interviewers, which definitely reminded me of Jason, lol.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Ok Leighannie, you are excused LOL – he will probably get this down in time. Can you tell I am biased too?

Yes I just want to go over and mess up Adams hair a bit, take out a little gel, and I want to un pouf Allisons, hopefully the wardrobe and hair people will do this for us?

  • chicksineggz

So far Adam is the only one I like in the Top 12. (Which is amazing considering just last week I said I didn’t like him at all) I think Alexis is good too, but I just need to see more of her. That being said, I don’t think I’m really a fan of any of them yet.

  • Dr. Tracey

    p.s
Speaking of boring, what’s the big deal with Allison only being 16?
She’s inside the age requirements and she’s not the first 16 year old to be on the show.

Also I was interested to hear Adam say that Randy had told him not to ‘overdo’ his performance but how he wanted to make his mark and not have the judges say he was boring but then how later he might chose to pull back a bit and how Kris ended up choosing the song he did. I just find that stuff interesting and it helps me pick who i’ll vote for.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

    edit: off topic, thanks

  • Jolene

Kris has, like, negative charisma. It’s like he opens his mouth and the room goes into slow-motion. Boring as a rock? I think that’s an insult to the rock.

Really wish I had someone to root for this season. Even Adam sort of lost me with all the shrieking.

  • amiroamor

How can Kris be boring? Just look at his face and boom! Everything will be exciting. muahahaa.. I’m joking of course.

  • stelladallas

I also enjoyed Kris’ energetic and enthusiastic performance.

After listening to these interviews with Adam, I can tell he is going to be FUN because he isn’t afraid to be honest. Just as long as he doesn’t diss some of my other favorites, of course. LOL

  • brextra

For some reason, the videos didn’t work for me, so I had to find them elsewhere. Perhaps I watched the wrong ones, but it seemed to me like it was Adam – not Kris – who was strongly hinting that no one got along with Tatiana. Am I incorrect?

  • SoulmateCT

I think you’re correct Brextra. Just a mistype by MJ I imagine! I liked the interview and although I still don’t like Adam’s voice I warmed to his personality in the video. Loved the snark on Tatiana!! Kris-didn’t love or hate him in the interview. I think he’ll develop better interview skills as he progresses. Loved Allison-typical 16 year old girl!

  • maracaibo

Can I just say I LOVE Adam’s personality. He is cool and nice.
It was sweet of him to mention Matt Giraud. I hope Matt gets one more chance to redeem himself.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Sorry MJ!!!! We were all just talking about that on here so I came back here, I wonder if it really is true, are you going to post somewhere else? thx

  • brextra

maracaibo – I’m going to echo you on Adam’s personality – he seems cool and nice.

And to add to that, he seems refreshingly normal.

Although we all know he can flame with a capital F and be campy with a capital C, it seems like those things are just part of his performances. In all of his interviews, he has been completely and totally normal. It’s so nice to see that AI has a guy on there who does not seem to fit some of the more “typical” flaming sterotypes that we often see on TV. Not that AI isn’t offering at least one of those stereotypes this season, because they definitely are – not only flaming, but overdramatic as well. And it’s that DRAMA that contributes to some of the negativity. America needs to see that not everyone fits those stereotypes.

Perhaps he’ll prove me wrong as the competition progresses, and he’ll become more stereotypical in his interviews. I do not have blind faith here. I certainly don’t know the guy. But thus far, it’s been nice.

  • brextra

Also – I had just noted that it wasn’t Kris Allen because I know a lot of people depend on this site for AI news, and it doesn’t seem like Kris to call someone out like that, even anonymously, so I didn’t want him to get a bad reputation for that.

I don’t think Adam was bad for it – but he can obviously bring the snark when needed – and I don’t think that’s in Kris’s makeup, based on what I’ve seen thus far.

  • BootStar

I didn’t think Kris was boring really. He was just being very careful not to say anything that might be misconstrued. I’m sure he’s aware of the Danny fireworks last week too. And I’m thinking he’s genuinely in shock to have advanced yesterday. He actually struck me as genuinely humble. I like him; his video on the Idol site was really cute too. I thought he came across as much more personable than J. Castro. I liked Jason’s singing, but I thought he came across in interviews like a total stoner, even though I don’t think he is.

Adam does seem much younger to me than 27. I actually think that will work in his favor. The three of them come across as very youthful, while others last night (Nick, Matt B. and the chick with the awesome legs) seem much older to me. Too old really. I felt the same way about Michael Johns last year. This season seems to have a lot more older contestants, and I think there’s a built-in bias against older contestants. (Oh, to be a 28- or 29-year-old geezer, again!).

Wow, Tatiana must be a real ball-buster for the three of them to even suggest that there’s one person nobody gets along with. I’m still wondering if she was hired by the producers to stir things up, but I guess they wouldn’t have let her get to the voting rounds if that was the case.

  • abbysee

    Really? :rolleyes_wp: I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get along with her, either

Wanna join the club, we could have cool t-shirts.

But so far, for me, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like Wonder Bread.

Well you could toast it, and put jam on it, I liked that when I was a kid, and ate white bread.

Boring as a rock? I think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an insult to the rock.

    ROFL!

I totally love Adam, he’s a stand up guy. I must say I like this group better than last weeks.

  • St.Lucia

    That was cute.

Allison is so gosh darn bubbly. I can’t say I’m in love with her singing completely yet, but I like her. She infectious. How can you not just like her listening to her?

Adam is wonderful as always. :)

And Well, Kris looked so uncomfortable he made me uncomfortable. He was just very, very bland and uninspiring and compared to the very colorful Adam and Allison he looked washed out in personality and actual appearance.

Great interviews for the most part!

  • Carlaria

I like Adam and Alison a lot more now after the interviews. Give Kris some time to get used to interviewing. Remember where David A. is coming from?

  • snuffles

maracaibo – Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to echo you on Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s personality – he seems cool and nice.

And to add to that, he seems refreshingly normal.

I agree. I think his OTT stage persona is just that – a persona. Off stage he’s down to earth, professional, charming and funny. I imagine he’s probably quite easy to work and get along with.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I didn’t think Kris was boring really. He was just being very careful not to say anything that might be misconstrued. I’m sure he’s aware of the Danny fireworks last week too. And I’m thinking he’s genuinely in shock to have advanced yesterday. He actually struck me as genuinely humble.

I just exchanged emails with a couple of journalists who came out of this afternoons press conference and they both–without prompting from me–used the B word to describe Kris.

    I guess YMMV.

Well you could toast it, and put jam on it, I liked that when I was a kid, and ate white bread.

When I was a kid, sure. Today, not so much.

  • brextra

    Thanks for the fix, MJ.

  • jz

I want to be BFFs with Adam. :)

  • KeepinTheFaith

OKAY LOOK. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID:

    Geez where do I start..?
Let’s first start with how people are claiming this is the guy’s year.
Ok ya, so maybe there will be more guys in the top 12 then girls, BUT the two girls that are already in the top 12 are WAAAYYYYY more talented then the guys. And, actually, some girls who HAVEN’T made it are more talented then those guys.

I know that Adam is all the rage and rave right now but let’s get a grip on reality here people. Okay, yes, he can sing. But he’s not as amazing and wonderful as everyone thinks and definitely should not be pimped the way he has.
Did anyone else have their volume up while he performed “Satisfaction”?
He screamed all through the song!!
And, just IMO, he makes creepy, trying-to-be-seductive faces that are really annoying.
I am okay with him in the top 12 for now but let’s be realistic and not get so overly excited about him yet people!
Wait till he actually does something worth jumping up and down over.

Last night, Megan or Jesse should have gotten in over Kris Allen. WTF??? I dont really remember his performances during Hollywood week (funny he was so forgettable) but his “Man in the Mirror” rendition was horrible…sorry.
Granted doing a M.J. song is, like someone else said in the blog a while ago, the kiss of death.
Not only that but Kris Allen is Boring with an f-in capitol B.
He’s cute…so what. It can only carry you so far and I’m bummed that he took up one of the spots in the top 12.
He shouldn’t have made it over the girls period.

Allison is amazing, the girl can sing. She’s better then everyone except maybe Alexis. :clap_tb:

    Alexis is amazing also. :thumbup_tb:

Now I know there is a long hate train for Danny. I’m on the fence with this one. Part of me thinks people have been to hard on him.
He’s not the best singer but he is good.
Yes the whole dead wife thing is annoying and a for sure turn off but let’s just see what he does in the top 12.
    Then make the call…

    Micheal Sarver…sucks.

IN CONCLUSION…I WILL ABSOLUTELY KILL MYSELF IF NATE MARSHALL MAKES THE TOP 12 NEXT WEEK
THAT KID IS WAY MORE ANNOYING THEN ANY CONTESTANT, EVEN TATIANA.

Come on America!! We can do better!!
Let’s not let this season go down the :nono_tb:
    Let’s go girls next week!

  • MaryS-NJ

LOL! They’re adorable. Allison is such a normal star-struck kid. Kris is still in shock and Adam is the dish… “Wildcard… She’s not gone yet.” Ha!

This is really good because I’ve been losing my interest in this show. I realize seeing them all together that they are nice, fun, normal kids. God bless ‘em.

*shakes fist at the PTB for making me so cynical*

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I haven’t been able to watch these yet, but I can’t wait to see them. I hearted Adam already, so I’m glad to hear that people think he was personable and fun in these. :) He’s totally my fave. I hate being invested, but I am. Again. Sigh.

” I hope he loses the peter pan hair do though, it looks like a bad hat.

    Don’t they get made over?

  • Cakenbake

    Sorry MJ, you blogged:

Kris Allen so far? Boring as a rock

The original idea for American Idol was to find undiscovered talent in America. I love Adam and Allison, but in reality they are already pros or semi-pros. They have been on stages performing nightly or on TV in front of millions, while Kris hasn’t. That is why I am surprised that Allison is having problems interviewing. She has been on TV in front of millions before. Kris is not a pro or semi-pro.

So I will give Kris a break, he is what the original concept of the American Idol show was about in the first place.

    Love the blog btw.

  • amiroamor

    ^^ Couldn’t agree more

  • BootStar

I, too, suspect that it actually is all about a female TCO this season and that the “guy” thing is a red herring; nonetheless, I’m not on either the Allison or the Alexis train yet. One great performance does not mean a whole lot for me, based on some of the trainwrecks I’ve witnessed in seasons past. I don’t find Allison adorable in the least, but I do think she sounded fantastic this week. Alexis was good, and I actually like her personality a lot, but so far she seems like a precocious little girl who’s dressed up in her mama’s clothes and playing Aretha Franklin. Now she may win me over, but I hardly see where either of them is more impressive than Adam.

Felicia’s performance placement next week may be a clue. She had some impressive stuff on the Internet, but I was underwhelmed by her audition. I don’t know if she’s thin and hot enough for Simon to get behind her, either. She’s another church girl, so she could reap any Danny fans if he were to fold early (fingers crossed!).

And for the record, I like Nate. A lot. He may be a drama queen, but I think he’s very interesting and a much better singer than half the contestants we’ve seen thus far. His comedic timing is as good as Nick/Norm’s, too, IMHO.

I like Kris and think he’s a very pleasant guy, but unless he’s hiding Jason Mraz in his guitar case, I can’t imagine he’ll advance anywhere near the Top 5.

So far my favorite peformer is Adam and the voice I like the most is Anoop’s. I think they both have fantastic personalities, too, which is important to me if I have to watch them for the next 12 weeks.

  • AC

Aww.. I still like Kris- I think it is more that he is in shock that he actually made it. I was reading his interview questions on mtv.com and it just seemed like he was in disbelief that he was able to get that many votes. I voted for him but it was a shock for me too! I think it’s also that he wasn’t shown on the show that much and they didn’t have as many good questions. He kinda reminds me of David Archuleta in interviews because they’re both shy and don’t really know what to say sometimes but it’s more okay for David since he’s young. To me, it was sweet

you know who he kinda reminds me of? Ryan from the Real World Brooklyn, especially when they both have their guitar.

  • Tess

Kris isn’t boring….just reserved. Putting anyone next to Adam, who is so gregarious, makes them seem a bit more tongue tied and quiet. I would love to sit and talk to Adam, he has that conversational vibe that just seems to put the listerner at ease. The more I see and hear him the more I like him. I think its great for AI to have a male diva….especially one with street smarts as well as a good intellect. Allison is really teen cute….she seems very approachable.
I like all 3 of these contestants…much better than the first threesome.

  • stephlem89

    They’re all sooooooo adorable!!

  • maturin

I like all 3 of these contestantsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦much better than the first threesome.

I know. I kind of want there to be a whacky show! About the cute earnest Midwestern boy, the glam theater boy, and the sassy whacky-hair-colored teen and how they all move in together and struggle make it in the real world. Sort of Party of Five meets Real World meets The Mary Tyler Moore Show. And Adam gets to toss his hat and sing, we’re gonna make it after aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAALLLL!!!!!! Yea-eahhh!!!

    It would be neat.

  • StormD

There is nothing Midwest about Arkansas. It’s the south. I remember hearing people calling Carrie Midwestern, too. But no, she’s from the southwest.

That said, I don’t want American Idol to become Big Brother. If I want Big Brother (and I have in the past), I’ll watch it.

  • soamused

    StormD, too funny!

  • Grammie Kari

Oh Jason wasnt boring, he was funny and some thought he came off dum(but he is far from dum) but boring? No – he was one of the reasons everyone said that the show was different and unique last year.

We really got to know and love Jason from his first performance. IMO, his charisma was apparent from the beginning. This is not to discount Kris Allen with his first interviews. I am looking at the guy who will attract the young teen girls. At this point, who could it be?

AI needs Adam to be on the show. He is very entertaining! I prefer Alexis to Allison. Anoop came mighty close and should be in the TOP 12. He’s another one AI needs on their concert tour.

  • cacity87

“He is an incredible singer, an incredible musician and just a really fun guy. I would love to see Matt back for the wildcard.” – Adam Lambert

That sounds like the definition of the next AMERICAN IDOL to me!

That was very sweet of Adam to mention Matt…and I think it says a lot when your competition can give you credit like that. The rest (Allison and Kris) sounded as though they were in agreement with him too. Matt Giraud has got to get that Wildcard – I think he’s the missing link for the Top 12 so far. He’s what this competition needs.

  • idolkiwi

“…a bottle of hair dye and a flat iron.”
    “…uh–IDN…..uh….”
    “OMG OMG OMG”

I am so enjoying this group of 3—they give off a good vibe of camaraderie, humor and support.

And so much for the “diva”–anybody who can tell the world he gets his “do” from a bottle of hair dye and a flat iron is okay with me! But then, I’ve always liked Adam since I first watched his YouTube vids. I have to admit my ears do ache a little on tlhe high notes—but the pain is lost in admiration…LOL

One thing I have come to appreciate about Adam is how well he handles the interviews. Yes, he’s charismatic, poised and articulate, but after his interview with Stevie Wright, and this most recent one, I can see he is also very kind and sweet with the younger contestants. I think his talent, confidence and creativity will keep us entertained throughout AI8…and on!

*My first post–love the blog–great job MJ, getting all the information out!! :clap_tb:

He reminded me of a big brother/boy-next door type in that interview. He was so nice to her and teased her a little bit. And he genuinely seemed interested in what she was saying.

  • ilovenpt123

Glad to see a stylist got their hands on Kris’s hair – Adam is fabulous – Allison cute.
