X Factor UK Six Chair Challenge: Twists and Group Assignments

The X Factor UK audition rounds have completed filming and now the Six Chair Challenge is underway. Which judge is mentoring which categories? And details on a new twist. As if the cruel six chair challenge needs to be even meaner…

For X Factor UK 2017 Simon Cowell has got the Groups, Nicole Scherzinger will lead the Overs, Sharon Osbourne will mentor the girls and Louis Walsh is with the Boys. The announcement was recently made in front of the contestants at London’s Wembley stadium.

To refresh your memory, in the six chair challenge, the remaining acts in each category perform one by one in front of a live audience for all four judges.

For the new twist, the category’s mentor will sit separately from the other judges, who will sit together and offer up their critiques of the performance first before the category mentor chooses who goes through.

Sharon and her girls have already taped. Apparently, the crowd was so nasty it prompted her to say, “It’s been a cruel night, it’s unbelievable how much talent there is. Come on guys, be nice.”

That’s how the round is designed though–to be as nasty and raucous as possible, while each of the acts is put through the mill. Some of them hold up, others buckle under the pressure.

Once the Top 24 is chosen, typically they go to “judges houses” where the field is whittled down to a Top 12. ITV hasn’t announced a premiere date yet, but it’s usually in August.

The Six Chair Challenge filming schedule set for SSE Arena, Wembley: Wednesday, July 26, (Afternoon) Thursday July 27 (Afternoon and Evening) and Friday, July 28 (Afternoon).

If any spoilers emerge, we’ll be posting them here on the blog.
