Tonight the contestants will perform for the judges and audience.

We start with Lucy Spraggan. She sings her own song “Tea and Toast” instead of a mash-up of various hit songs. Lucy gets standing ovation from the judges and the audience. Looks like X Factor discovered the female version of Ed Sheeran. However, this is X Factor. With theme weeks, covers of hit songs and production numbers. Will TPTB bend the rules for Lucy, who only seems to be comfortable performing her own songs with acoustic guitar?

Rylan Clark is next. He sings “Don’t Cha” by The Pussycat Dolls. He is awful. But sparkly.

A montage of performances: Payphone, Earthquake, Sweet Child of Mine …

Time for Jahmene Douglas. He screwed up his previous bootcamp performance. He is nervous and feels sick, so they postpone his performance. MK1 take the stage instead.

Finally, Jahmene sings “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. It’s a shaky performance. I don’t think the judges care, through.

GMD3 sing “Sweet Child of Mine”. We barely got to hear anything, but who cares, I think they are a lock for the live shows.

Time for the overs.

Melanie Masson sings “Change Is Gonna Come”.

Christopher Maloney and Carolynne Poole impress the judges. I failed to recognize their songs, though. Help?

Kye Sones sings “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. I’m not digging this, but the audience is going crazy for Kye.

Girlband From Above murders “Payphone”. Bye Bye!

Single mum Jade Ellis is next. Ooops, she forgot the lyrics of “I’m Yours”.

Joseph Whelan plays acoustic guitar and sings U2’s “With or Without You” The crowd goes wild, but the judges are not convinced. Is he a star? Probably not.

Boyband Times Red performs “Ain’t Nobody”.

James Arthur sings Take That’s “A Million Love Songs”. Great strategic choice.

Adam Burridge sings “Ain’t Nobody”.

Ella Henderson sings Cher’s “Believe” and turns it into a ballad. Nicole Scherzinger is crying, the crowd loved the performance as well.

Time for the reveal of TOP 24!

DUEL for the last spot:
GMD3 v. Triple J

GMD3 advance. This sucks. They basically nixed Triple J because they are too similar to GMD3. I think GMD3 are definitely the chosen group this year. TPTB are pimping them since the audition round and they have more commercial appeal than the other groups.

Now it’s time for Simon Cowell to tell the judges which category they will be mentoring.
