One Direction shouldn’t write their music, says songwriter Cathy Dennis
One Direction should refrain from writing their own material, according to Cathy Dennis.

The songwriter – who has Britney Spears’s ‘Toxic’ and Kylie Minogue’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ among her credits – has advised the boyband to avoid taking control of their creative output.

“It will be expected that they will write their own songs at some point,” Dennis is quoted by The Sun as saying.

“Someone is going to say, ‘Hang on, the royalties coming in from just singing are not enough’. The guys who wrote ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ are millionaires.”

She added: “But if 1D started writing their own songs it could be the kiss of death, let’s face it. I am not going to advocate that.

King Louis X
Walsh signs for tenth series

SIMON COWELL appears to have won his battle with ITV bosses to give Louis Walsh his TENTH X Factor series.

But the concession came only after he agreed to have Gary Barlow back on the show’s judging panel.

The music mogul’s senior advisers will sit down with ITV top brass next week to thrash out the new format and panel — and decide on how much cash will be spent on the new series.

We told you how Simon was at loggerheads with ITV, who were resisting his pleas to have his old pal return to the show this year.

At the same time, Simon was holding out on backing Gary’s return.

While ITV were desperate for the Take That singer to return, Simon was telling friends he believed he was “boring”.

Now insiders say a tentative “peace deal” has been brokered between the warring factions.

It means giving Louis a reprieve from the axe… on condition that Gary comes back.

Show boss Simon Cowell was said to be “not looking at anyone else” other than Ozzy Osbourne’s missus after ex-Spice Girl Mel delivered her bombshell. A source said: “Simon is a huge fan of Sharon.

“Things are looking good for her. She is in pole position.” It means Sharon, 60, will be back on the judging panel full-time six years after she last held the job.

Dannii Minogue returns to The X Factor – she’s signed up to the Australian version of the show
Exciting news (especially if you live Down Under). Who wants to bet her sister Kylie will be her special guest at judges houses?
Dannii Minogue is back on The X Factor – after signing up to be on the Australian version of the show. The 41-year-old star snubbed the chance to appear in the UK show last year shortly after Simon Cowell revealed they had an love affair in a biography written with his blessing.

But she will now be back on The X Factor alongside fellow panelist Ronan Keating after agreeing terms Down Under. The six-figure deal has been agreed and she is expected to be confirmed as a judge in Australia tomorrow (Tuesday 19th March).

A TV source told the Mirror: “Dannii sees Australia as her home and so this offer works perfectly for her family life with her son Ethan. Being on the Australian show also means she doesn’t need to cross paths with Simon Cowell and that is no bad thing either. He has very little to do with the Aussie version and she didn’t even need to speak to him about this deal.

X Factor hopefuls to audition in clubs rather than arenas in shake-up

X FACTOR wannabes will have to audition in poky clubs under one radical idea to shake up the ten-year-old format.

The plan comes as Simon Cowell confessed this year’s show will feature “a lot of changes” in a bid to win back the millions of fans who have deserted in recent years.

As we have previously revealed, bosses want to strip back the auditions.

They fear the arena try-outs introduced in 2009 mean viewers are too used to glitzy performances by the time the live shows start.

They are considering a number of changes, including going back to the original set-up of wannabes singing for the judges in a drab room. But some senior staff have suggested they sing in jazz clubs, working men’s clubs and social clubs in towns and cities across the UK.

‘There will be bumps in your life, but the fun is in fixing them’: Simon Cowell posts rambling tweets about his health, promotes his projects and offers life advice
Simon Cowell doesn’t update his Twitter feed regularly but on Tuesday morning he posted 17 messages in less than an hour.

The Syco boss wrote about his latest TV shows, his health, the secret to happiness and how overcoming obstacles in life is ‘fun’ in the series of tweets to the social networking site.

Simon began by apologising for not posting over the past four days and addressed The X Factor.

He wrote: ‘There will be a lot of changes on X factor uk and USA. But good changes. I feel excited for both shows this year.’

The 53-year-old then went on to promote stars signed to his label and wrote: ‘One direction continue to amaze me. Hard workers but still the nicest guys you could hope to work with.’

He also wrote about his Emblem 3, Fifth Harmony and Tate from the US version of his show, before mentioning Ella Henderson and James Arthur from the UK talent show.

‘Ahhh,’ purred Simon Cowell, like a contented lion after a satisfying kill. ‘This is one of the greatest moments of my life!’
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14

It all began with a simple email from Simon Cowell’s PA, Jennie, headed ‘CATCH-UP WITH SIMON’.

‘Hello, Piers,’ she wrote. ‘Simon heard you were in town and wondered if you’d like to come in for a catch-up and a cup of tea next week?

‘Having said that, he does have a really busy week, but I think Thursday afternoon might be possible if it works for you? He’s free at 3pm for the hour. I know he’d be really pleased to see you.’

Nothing about this message rang any alarm bells.

Simon has quite often asked me to pop over for a cup of tea and a chat over the years, and he’s never usually missed the chance to emphasise how extremely hectic his schedule is by generously allocating a very specific period of his precious time.

The only part of it that seemed un-Cowell-like was the suspiciously chummy line ‘I know he’d be really pleased to see you’. But I put it down to his new touchy-feely Mr Nice Guy persona.

This afternoon, I walked down to the Cowell empire in Kensington, and when I got to the lobby an intense-looking Eastern European gentleman asked who I’d come to see.

‘Simon Cowell,’ I replied.

‘And what is your name?’ he growled.

‘Piers Morgan.’
