Heartbroken Alexandra Burke announces death of her Soul II Soul singer mother Melissa Bell aged just 53
Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell has died, her daughter Alexandra Burke has revealed today.
The 53-year-old, from London, passed away after a nine-year battle with kidney failure, which was brought on by diabetes.
Strictly Come Dancing contestant and former X Factor winner, Burke, added her mother, who was a member of the Grammy-winning group, would have wanted her to continue on with the competition show.
A statement from the Burke family said Bell died on August 28 and paid tribute to her ‘unconditional love, support, charisma, strength and courage’.

Although “Back To You” is best characterized as pop, the One Direction member cited fellow countrymen northern-England based rock bands Oasis and Arctic Monkeys as his primary musical inspirations in an interview with MTV News.
“I grew up loving bands, so I like really organic instruments — I like a lot of guitar” the singer said. “Because I’m from the north of England, naturally everyone’s kind of obsessed with Oasis, you know, and also, you know, Arctic Monkeys.”
