Cher Lloyd Live: Watch The Tastemakers Performance
“I’m quite an honest person,” 20-year-old pop singer Cher Lloyd tells Billboard at Manhattan’s Mophonics Studio, after performing a trio of songs for a Billboard Tastemakers session. “I’ve had one kind-of hit, right? I’ve had ‘Want U Back.’ No, come on, let’s not beat around the bush.”

It’s true that “Want U Back,” from Lloyd’s debut album “Sticks + Stones,” is her biggest hit to date, selling 2.2 million downloads according to Nielsen SoundScan and peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s also true that a handful of Lloyd’s other singles, despite being equally punchy and intriguingly sassy, failed to overwhelm mainstream audiences, at least in the States.

James Arthur interview: ‘It’s hard to avoid the hate’
Since winning last year’s The X Factor, James Arthur has seemingly broken the curse for male winners, finding success across Europe with his debut single ‘Impossible’ and recent effort ‘You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You’.

With his debut album – a record he describes as “depressing like my nature” – out next week, we met up with the singer to talk about the LP, his burgeoning rap career and online haters.

Hi James! Your new single just lost out on the top spot to Lorde last week. Was that frustrating?
“I was going up against an international superstar, so I wasn’t too bothered about being behind her. I like her, she seems beyond her years and very intelligent for such a young girl. I’m not ashamed to be beaten to number one by her. I like the message in her song. I’m pleased to have been beaten by someone who is very credible. I was happy to be in the top five.”

Why One Direction ‘Freaked Out’ When They Heard ‘Story Of My Life’
Songwriter Jamie Scott tells MTV News the story behind 1D’s second Midnight Memories single.

Need a good cry? Well, One Direction officially released their latest Midnight Memories single, “Story of My Life” to iTunes on Monday (October 28). And the folk-inspired ballad has Directioners shedding tears.

One part Mumford & Sons and five parts 1D, the track was written by Jamie Scott, John Ryan, Julian Bunetta and 1D and produced by Julian Bunetta and John Ryan. Scott explained to MTV News that everyone involved had one motto when they sat down to record the tune: “Let’s just kind of write a song the guys can really dig and take this record to a new place.”

As soon as 1D heard it, he added, “they freaked out and finished the song with us. It’s always good to have their kind of input on lyrics and stuff just to make sure they’re really singing what they’re singing about.” While the guys aren’t new to acoustic ballads (they released “Little Things” last year), “Story” feels even more folk-heavy than previous efforts, but Scott says the guys have the talent to pull it off.

“It’s not that hard a thing to do because the boys have really good voices, they’ve all got very different voices. Harry [Styles’] rasp is something that you can always lean towards… All the boys have such a great sound themselves,” he said. “For instance the demo that we played the boys sounds a lot more folky than it does now. That’s what amazing about their voices [when they record it] straight away it sounds like them.”

That’s according to PeerIndex, which has released its third annual chart of the top Twitter users in the UK, ranked by influence rather than just how many followers they have.

One Direction’s five members take the top five slots in the chart, with Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson all scoring 98 out of 100 for their Twitter influence, while Zayn Malik scores 97.

X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent set to be renewed for three more years
ITV is reportedly close to signing a deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment that will see The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent remain on UK screens until 2016.

Although producers have begun the auditions process for the next series of BGT, the broadcaster’s existing rights agreement for the two talent contests officially expires at the end of the year.

However, according to Broadcast, negotations for a renewal are in their final stages, with both parties having tentatively agreed terms to keep both shows on the air for another three series each.

An official announcement could be made as early as next month, although ITV, Syco and partner production company FremantleMedia all declined to comment.

X Factor 2013: Simon Cowell to quit US series for UK return?
X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reportedly set to quit the American version of the show.

The US series has struggled since its launch in the states back in 2011, shedding viewers from its lower than expected ratings since then.

The latest episode was watched by fewer than 5 million viewers, three million less than the UK show at the weekend.

The FOX series also lost out in a head to head battle with rival reality series The Voice, which airs on NBC.

But The X Factor USA is set to get another reprieve, with a fourth series set for next year already.

X Factor UK: Simon Cowell keen to get Cheryl Cole back
X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reportedly keen to get Cheryl Cole back on the panel for next year’s series.

With the series in need of a major revamp after the current run, Simon is apparently hoping to go back to a judging line up that has worked in the past.

Louis Walsh has already revealed he’s changed his mind about leaving, while Dannii Minogue is apparently in early talks to make a comeback too.

It’s therefore no surprise to hear that Simon wants to get Cheryl on board for the eleventh series next year, after ITV agreed to a further three-year deal for The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent last month.

X Factor 2013 Week 3 Post Mortem: Why Ratings Are Down
In terms of the elimination, it was one of those damp squib Sundays we’d worried the flash vote might create. Having dodged two bullets, Miss Dynamix’s bottom place on Saturday meant the only drama left for Sunday’s show was who would be saved over them.

That honour surprisingly went to Hannah (well done for calling it JScouser). Her singoff appearance lends credence to the theory that staging involving fire can leave an act burned – and leaves her with an uphill journey to complete if she’s to re-establish herself as a serious contender for the win. For the third week running, the act to be saved got blue lighting and the act to be ditched was red-and-blacked.

All logic dictates that Abi must be in the crosshairs as the week 4 target, assuming the panel can manage to avoid provoking sympathy votes again by reducing the poor girl to tears (and assuming she doesn’t take eurovicious’s advice: “I want to give Abi a hug and tell her to quit, and I want to punch every member of the jury in the face with a barbed glove”).
