The 2014 FIFA World Cup begins today with host country Brazil battling Croatia in the tournament’s first match.
But first, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte officially kicked off the cup in Brazil today (June 12) with a performance of “We Are One (Ole Ola)” — the official song of this year’s World Cup.
Jlo mostly shimmies around the stage, yelling off beat over the track. Other than adding a local touch, I’m not really sure what Leitte is doing there. Maybe the organizers wanted to ensure Pitbull would be bookended by two jumping, scantily-clad ladies. Pitbull is doing even less than Jlo. He’s mostly smiling and fist pumping. The recorded track does most of the heavy lifting.
But then…there’s lots of brightly colored dancers around them to distract. Maybe the poor sound doesn’t really matter.
