  1. Does Simon Cowell Hate Taylor Hicks?

..Even though ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a new season, it seems that Simon Cowell still isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t letting up on Taylor Hicks. During the American Idol 6 Seattle auditions, Simon Cowell told a contestant who walked in chewing gum to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“stick it on Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s face of something.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Simon was referring to the backdrop behind the contestants that features former American Idol winners.

After Sundance Head sang a Blues song during the American Idol 6 Memphis auditions, Simon Cowell told Randy Jackson, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He just blew Taylor out of the park.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Of course, Simon was referring to Taylor Hicks, who brought a Blues sound to American Idol 5..

  2. Memphis à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idolsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ lack looks, but not talent
Elvis’ hometown singers say thankyouverrahmuch to Simon and crew

A lot of contestants for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ have nice voices, but may be handicapped by their lack of traditional pop star looks. Despite the success of Taylor Hicks last season, the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ bias has always been in favor of hopefuls who could step right from the stage to the cover of a teen magazine with just a quick tug of the hairbrush. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s easy for many to sneer that unless they have the look, they havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t got a prayer………

  3. A New Book, “Bully-Proofing Children” Takes Aim at Simon Cowell, as America’s Biggest TV Bully

American Idol judge, Simon Cowell is accused of contributing to the rising levels of bullying behaviors in kids by authors Joanne and Arrica Scaglione in their newly-released book “Bully-Proofing Children.”…….

  4. American Idol in Memphis brings the soul

.. After he sang, Simon’s only response was “Wow.” Paula says she didn’t expect that powerful voice. Randy said he sang a blues song and blew it out. Simon called it one of the best auditons of the season, and after yeses from Randy and Paula, told Sundance that if he didn’t make the finales he would be amazed. His comment after Sundance walked out will no doubt anger the Soul Patrol, as Simon said Sundance blew Taylor Hicks completely out of the water..

  5. Albert Fisher, Emmy Winning Producer, Says: American Idol Insults Have Gone Too Far — Makes Offer To Bring Back The Original Amateur Hour

..For years now, National Emmy winning broadcasting veteran Albert Fisher has seen how the legacy of the grandest talent competition show of them all has been continually eroded by the ever-increasing nastiness of the Fox TV series: American Idol. Amateur talent competitions started back in 1934 with radio’s Major Bowes and The Original Amateur Hour and continued into the television era with Ted Mack and The Original Amateur Hour. A long standing tradition of offering people of all walks of life an opportunity to be seen and heard without being ridiculed was established. And along the way over 50 major stars of stage, screen, radio, television and recordings were discovered. Some of the illustrious alumnae of The Original Amateur Hour include Frank Sinatra, Gladys Knight, Ann-Margret, Robert Klein, Pat Boone, Raul Julia, Jose Feliciano, Beverly Sills, Nick Carter, Penny Marshall and Irene Cara….

  6. Mocking in Memphis
The ”American Idol” auditions in Tennessee were funny, but there seemed to be a serious shortage of talent

..And anyway, who’s gonna begrudge Sundance his confidence after hearing his take on ”Stormy Monday,” a performance that was at once thoroughly slick and casually tousled. To me, that’s the mark of the great singers à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ they never make you feel they’re trying too hard. And indeed, when Sundance went for the big notes, it was all about feeling the lyrics rather than mindlessly attempting to show off his range, as so many Idol also-rans have done before him. Simon is right; if this guy doesn’t make the finals, it’ll be nothing short of astonishing. I just hope the fact that Sundance’s dad was ’60s singing star Roy Head doesn’t result in the same ”He’s got famous relatives; he doesn’t deserve it” backlash that nipped at Paris Bennett’s heels throughout last season. It’s not exactly like we’re talking about Lisa Marie Presley here..

  7. Mobile’s Mardi Gras parades hope to get a boost from Katrina

..New Orleans, devastated by winds and flooding when Katrina struck on Aug. 29, 2005, has an Alabama connection to its carnival this year: “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks of Birmingham, Ala., will reign as the Krewe of Endymion’s grand marshal. Endymion will roll down New Orleans’ historic St. Charles Avenue on Feb. 17, the Saturday before Fat Tuesday..

  8. American Idol 6 – American Idol Memphis Auditions

.. And then, as he left the room, Simon openly slammed Taylor Hicks, saying he ‘blew Taylor out of the water. Personally I didn’t compare the two so much. They’re both good, but I liked Taylor’s personality more than this guy. That’s just me. A Simon favorite that’s not a girl. Shocking..

  9. Idol’s Cowell stands up for his `wacky’ co-star and her less lucid moments.

Simon Cowell is going all soft on us.

This assertion might seem hilarious to those who have witnessed Simon’s more-acrid-than-usual putdowns of this season’s American Idol. But that’s Simon the showman. The off-camera Simon affected a vastly different persona on the midseason press tour. The caustic Brit even dove on his sword several times for the sake of his frequent foil Paula Abdul. She was so appreciative she leaned over and spontaneously kissed him….

  10. Pop 20: From fun to abuse, `Idol’ takes it too far

..Not all those people can possibly make it before Simon and Co., can they? Which means the producers are choosing to audition a few people with true potential, then mixing in a whole lot of folks they know to be lousy – all in the interest of making entertaining TV.

Meanwhile, a person who has a dream of making it as a singer, someone who has been told how talented they are all their life and has even taken lessons to improve, may not get that.

Chances are they think they’ve been selected because they’re good instead of the truth: They’ve been picked to be the panel’s punchline..

  11. American Idol: The Stars Come Out In Memphis

..It seems as though Sundance Head may have sang his way into an early favorite spot for the season. Males are a +150 underdog (bet $100 to win $150) to become the next American Idol at Bodog.com.

The saying, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t judge a book by ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s coverà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ holds true for the next contestant, Sean Michael. Michael looks like a combination of Fidel Castro, Jesus Christ and a homeless bumà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦a clean homeless bum anyway..

  14. American Idol: Memphis Recapitulation

..The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Johnny Cash if He Got Kicked in the Nardsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Award goes to Sean Michel, who kicked Chris Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ass at making a Johnny Cash song not sound like a Johnny Cash song..

  15. Daughtry’s Shop show may be sold out soon

..If you didn’t get tickets to Chris Daughtry’s March 11 show at the Machine Shop, you’re in luck. But not for long.

The club’s Kevin Zink said tickets sold briskly after going on sale Friday. He predicts all of the $20 tickets to see the “American Idol” alumnus will be gone by this weekend.

His advice? “Get on it, because they’re gonna be gone.”..

  16. So far I am not too impressed with this season. Last season I remember being blown away with Paris’ and Lisa’s auditions but there hasn’t been anybody yet who has made me feel that way.

  17. Good morning, everyone! I’m not impressed with this group yet either. Maybe one of those people they showed running around with gold tickets last night whose audition they didn’t deign to show us might have a spark.

  18. Albany singer makes ‘Idol’ 100 round
Spa employee Melissa Sgambelluri gets nod from Abdul and Jackson

It took all of two minutes and 30 seconds into last week’s sixth season premiere of “American Idol” to realize that Albany singer Melissa Sgambelluri was moving on to the round of 100.
Although we have yet to see Sgambelluri sing on the hit Fox reality show (Tuesdays and Wednesdays, WXXA Ch. 23), we have already seen her: She was the woman in the red T-shirt who jubilantly jumped into the fountain in Memphis Tenn., clutching a coveted “golden ticket” given to those moving on in the competition. The scene was re-aired at the end of Tuesday night’s episode…….

….Does Sgambelluri make the cut? Again, according to show rules she can’t say, even to her co-workers and customers at the Jean Paul Day Spa & Hair Salon in Stuyvesant Plaza. They held a fundraiser to pay for Sgambelluri’s trip to Memphis…

  19. Reality Check: Arbitrary Judging on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢

..Although the panel did make some good calls à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ putting through a very depressed guy who had a self-described Bin Laden beard and said he thinks all people are à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“poor insideà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but who really knew how to do a Johnny Cash song justice, as well as a heavyset son-of-a-famous-musician and background singer with a confidence problem à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t help but feel that the deciding factor in a lot of these cases was what voices were flitting through Paulaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s brain at the given moment, how much Randy felt like saying, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thanks for looking outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ again, and whether or not Simon had some sort of a personal problem with the delivery……..

…Then again, next to Paula à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ grooving along to thoroughly tuneless renditions of utterly unrecognizable songs and appearing to hurt herself while clapping her hands à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ most of them seemed right in sync.

  20. Taylor Hicks Excited About Chris Daughtry’s Success, ‘Obscure Covers’
‘Idol’ winner kicks off tour February 21, drops ‘official’ single.

..Yes, eight months after he was crowned, Taylor Hicks is still a breath of fresh air to the franchise that has focused on, well, not-so-obscure covers. And, while Chris Daughtry is the one dominating the album charts, Hicks is slowly making his move..

  21. American Idol 2: Walking in Memphis

As long as I live, I can pretty much guarantee I will never utter this phrase again: Thank goodness for the State of the Union address.

But I really mean it right now, because Tuesday nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s speech to the nation by the president meant that American Idol producers had to cut an hour out of the Memphis auditions. I can just imagine the slicing and dicing that went on in that editing room, as the psychos, the unstable, the physically repulsive and the Special Olympians were sacrificed to the clock.

    Thanks goodness.

Because that hacking away meant that the overall tone of last nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idol was better. One might even say kinder and gentler (to quote a Bush)…..

  22. Morning everyone – the MTV article was nice. It will make those clamoring for a video happy. Although it seems to have the same vagueness about it that the release of the single did. It may be awhile.

  23. Like the Castro guy, hope he stays on for a while. Watch for my son’s friend Henry tonight on auditions, he was on for a brief clip at the end of the show last night, still unsure they are showing his audition on the show tonight.

  24. American Idol: We’re Walking In Memphis

..I’m bored. Suddenly, Simon rises from his chair storming into the hallway. This pep rally is over. Any doubt I had involving the rumored hatred between Seacrust and Simon is confirmed when Seacrust says something so vile to Simon that the network had to bleep it. Vile is probably an overstatement – he probably just called him a monkeybooger. Probably…..

    http://realitytvcalendar.com/recaps/ai6/ai6-ep03-p1.html

  25. Almost every year of AI starts off the same for me…..I feel like it will not be as good as the last season!…Then,we come to the top 12…..after a few weeks, I find myself someone I really like..and then it begins…last year I remember saying it was the worst(for me) at the beginning and omg it ended up the best!….for me its hard to let go of the previous seaon UNTIL later and then it just sorta happens and I find myself newly invested unintentionally..so-I make no judgements/comparisons now until the top 12…really, we have not even seen half the auditions or some of the “chosen”….we may all be blown away by some of the singers when the competetion begins…it could happen!:)

  26. daisy…understand exactly how you feel..I’m the same way with Taylor!..so tired of that boy!:)

  27. LAst year was the first season that I watched every episode and became invested in the contestants. One thing I’ve been pondering is the Clay and Taylor phenomena, where the degree of investment is so high for so many. Is this the kind if thing that happens every year, or will these fans cool off for a year or two before they re-invest in someone else?

  28. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m very amused by the Sundance/Taylor stuff.

Last week several were so quick to deem that Sarah Krueger girl who sang à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“OTRà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as way better than Katharine. After a few seconds of a song clip.

Now Simon does it to Taylor, and we canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tell anything by a few seconds of a song- Simon is wrong- his auditon is tainted, etc.

Does anyone else not see the hilarity and double standard in that?

  29. Ray, at least we can be thankful that the comparisons to Elvis have subsided, lol.

  30. I personally never become ‘over invested’. I enjoy the ‘game’.

  31. Hs, I am always watched this show and voted, but ever got really involved with a contestant, ie joined a blog, fan board until Elliott and this yr. I really like Bo, but have to admit only followed him briefly after the show. I am now back to watching this yr on a casual, detached basis.

  32. Me too, Daisy. I hope Elliott’s first single, Moving On (and what a great title, btw), and album is as good as we hope/expect! My confidence in Elliott’s musical sensibilities is high, but who knows!

  33. Korbi’s Quickie: Your Wednesday TV Cheat Sheet

    ..
American Idol: The weirdos in Memphis really didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t come close to the ones from last Wednesday. I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t laugh much. Just a chuckle or two, courtesy of Janita Burks, who insisted her sexy appearance really aids in her à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“confidentiality.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I did, however, cry like a sappy loser. Melinda Doolittleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s powerful performance of Stevie Wonderà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s For Once In My Life actually moved me to tears. The next Jennifer Hudson?

  34. xo, my gut reaction to Sundance was that he sounded like Elliott, not Taylor. So Simon’s comment came out of left field for me. Its just about making the show entertaining. I don’t think for a minute that Simon really dislikes Taylor. Simon was actually very gracious on Oprah when he apologized to Jennifer Hudson.

  35. I do remember last year’s auditions and I was impressed by a variety of people even before they got to the Top 12. This year I don’t have that same feel.

In Season 4 I remembered Carrie’s, Bo’s, Constantine’s, Anwar’s, and Mario’s auditions. I thought early on during Hollywood that the finals would be between Carrie and Mario.

  36. I thought that Sundance Head had a very powerful voice but his tone didn’t grab me. I actually like Taylor better and definitely prefer Elliott’s tone.

  37. FHU students look for familiars on ‘Idol’

..A few FHU students were among the nearly 16,000 people who waited to try out for season six of the FOX reality TV singing competition at the FedExForum last September. And at least one West Tennessean – Bethel College junior Amanda Thomas, 20 – sang well enough to make it to the show’s soon-to-be-broadcast Hollywood round. Although Thomas was cut from the show before the finals, she said, “It was a really fun experience.”..

  38. xo..of course I see the double standard…This is the way I see view points on idols…ever been to a church where everyone is pretty much the same denomination except you?…everyone is nice and pratices tolerance and says they welcome all but you are wrong in your perspective unless you agree with the congregation. You just don’t “get it” unless you think the same way with the congregation gathered. Welcome!

  39. xo,

Do you have a basic understanding of the difference between ordinary people on a blog stating their opinions and a Simon, a judge on AI, slamming the reigning Idol on national television?

The double-standard which you trot out with tiresome regularity does not apply in this particular instance.

  40. Good morning. :)

Daisy, I am the same way. I loved Bo the year he was on but I never “lived” online to follow his career. I hope, too, I can watch this year on a casual, detached basis. ;=D

  41. I think Simon is tacky with his remarks and basically uncalled for BUT having said that…I think he has a “right” to his opinion in America. Forbidding him to speak would be like telling a Democrat you can’t make any negative comments about the reigning President Bush on national television.(imho and lol)

  42. For those interested, Gray posted a supposedly complete list of Taylor’s tour dates. It includes CA dates, Washington DC, another date in NJ amongst others. MaryS – the NJ date is the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville but it’s a Wednesday night (between Westbury and AC).

Just gotta say, Ray, that you’re a breath of fresh air. I’m a Chris fan and often feel like a liberal stumbling into a Republican convention when entering this site. :huh_tb: Go Bama!

Also, Squishy, thanks for the heads up on our boy’s interview. Look forward to catching it. :smile1_tb:

  44. squishy: I thought that Sundance Head had a very powerful voice but his tone didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t grab me. I actually like Taylor better and definitely prefer Elliottà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tone.

I agree with you. I did like Sundance’s audition, but Taylor and Elliott are both better. Have to admit that I really love Sundance’s name and his explanation for that name is that his parents were hippies. :smoke_tb:

  45. Does anyone else not see the hilarity and double standard in that?

Yes and no. The two situations are not entirely the same. Remember, Sarah Krueger sang the song that cemented Katharine’s star turn on Idol, so the comparisons were of the “who sang Song X the best” nature. Personally, I thought Katharine sang SOTR better, but that Sarah had the better voice overall.

With Sundance and Taylor, what was the comparison? Their vocal styles and tone were different. They didn’t sing the same song. Maybe it’s because they’re both unconventional looking? Both tinged by blues, although Taylor never came off as a blues singer on Idol? Not really. I think Simon was just after the shock value, just like he was last year when he said he preferred Kellie to Carrie. I agree with whoever said Sundance’s tone reminded them more of Elliott Yamin than of Taylor.

  46. Kat – What you said. There was nothing Taylor-like about the dude. Therefore the comparison was a random excuse for Simon to diss Taylor. There’s no double standard in pointing that out. Try again, Kat fans.

  47. Just reading that Kat interview with salon.com. I’m only on the first question and she’s already put her foot in her mouth with a diss to Celine Dion, who could sing crop circles around kat. lol

  48. You got a fair bit of attention in the media last year for things that had nothing to do with your appearance on “American Idol” or your music.

    No kidding!! LOL

  49. Just reading that Kat interview with salon.com. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m only on the first question and sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already put her foot in her mouth with a diss to Celine Dion, who could sing crop circles around kat. lol

There’s nothing wrong with appreciating new pop music, but geez, “yeah I did like Celine Dion, but Celine Dion is not in anymore?” Yes, Katharine, that’s an EXCELLENT reason not to like or listen to an artist anymore–their popularity. Memo to Kat–you’re not in middle school anymore. The cool kids at the popular cafeteria table aren’t going to make fun of you because you like an artist from 10 years ago. Gah! What is she, nine?

Just read the MTV interview with Taylor. I am SO excited for this tour. Songs from ALL three of his CDs, plus favorites from the show, plus obscure covers. This is gonna be great. Few details on the JTFTW video. I bet they’re waiting to see if it catches a bit on radio before sinking money into a vid. Total class act re. his comments about Chris. Simon and ***, take note!

  55. IMO…Sean Michael reminded me in many ways of Elliott…
Also, Sundance may have a very good voice, but he did NOT emit a Soul Vibe in his audition…Bobby Bland, I am certain, would NOT have been able to connect with that performance..

  56. …read that article about Kat and the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“prisonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ of AI, I am so tired of this girl and her cd has yet to drop, help me please

  59. American Idol: Still Cruel, Still Funny, Rick Perry Supports Nugentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Rant? And More

    ..
Last night we saw footage from American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s third round of auditions, held in Memphis. It was a regular smorgasbord of AIà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s signature style: Half the contestants were borderline mentally challenged optimists who just know they have what it takes, and the other half were locals with decent voices and great back stories. Who isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t rooting for the shy backup dancer turned potential Idol. After all those years in the background can she make it on center stage à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦? Sometimes the suspense is just unbearable.

  60. I listened to that youtube video of Sean Michel and wasn’t as impressed by him as I thought last night when he sang. Hmmm – interesting and definitely deserves a chance in Hollywood round, but quite frankly, I am not expecting him to do much better. The song on the video is very blah – over and over the same stuff – so perhaps, with better songs, he will be a better singer. His image is definitely interesting. Castro look not popular, but will be memorable.

As for Sundance – yep – he can sing and is definitely a contender. Reference to Taylor is pure Simon and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, imo. I do catch a bit of Elliott’s tone in his voice – but we will see just how good he really is as the contest moves on.

The background singer was very good and I look forward to seeing her in the Hollywood rounds. I hope she gains confidence and is able to shine.

I noticed that the snark was less cruel last night. I am hoping that the emphasis on the audition rounds can be more on seeing the future contestants and less on the rejects – or at least less cruel treatment of them.

  61. I can’t get into the MTV article about Taylor – if there is anything really good in there, can someone pull a quote out to share? I’m loving some of the quotes from the Kat interview. I can’t believe they haven’t found someone to coach her on her interviews yet. We’ve all had foot-in-mouth-itis at times, but it’s so much worse when it’s plastered all over the internet. Fun when Boulder Soul gets her hands on it tho!

Lisa B – Muchas gracias for all the links!

Just read the MTV interview with Taylor. I am SO excited for this tour. Songs from ALL three of his CDs, plus favorites from the show, plus obscure covers. This is gonna be great. Few details on the JTFTW video. I bet theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re waiting to see if it catches a bit on radio before sinking money into a vid. Total class act re. his comments about Chris. Simon and ***, take note!

    ————————————–

Totally agree. Taylor is a class act and a good man. He and Chris are both supportive of one another. Now, if the fans…… :huh_tb:

  63. ‘Idol’ who? The NFL tops all

    – Simon Cowell was impressive; Peyton Manning was even better.

Sunday’s gripping American Football Conference championship game between Manning’s Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots stole some of the thunder from “American Idol,” even enabling CBS to beat Fox in the ratings for the week, according to Nielsen Media Research….

    http://edition.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/24/nielsens.ap/

  64. BTW – saw that Little Miss Sunshine is finally getting more recognition – Alan Arkin and the little girl are nominated for oscars as well as best picture nomination.

I saw that movie and was blown away – it was hilarious and sweet. I am glad that it is being honored.

Oh – and still rooting for Jennifer Hudson – but I am not terribly disappointed that Dreamgirls didn’t get best picture nomination. This opens the door for Little Miss Sunshine to win.

  65. Kat is at quite a fun interview. Singing standards on idol made her appear “older.” She’s fairly immature in her musical tastes, personality, etc. It’ll be interesting to see if someone out of AI can go the “sexy” route. Never been done before. Congratulations Chris. You’re saving Clive’s bacon. Not that he deserves it.

Kat’s music has a disturbing “soft porn” breathiness to it. Anyone else getting that?

  66. Pamster – I haven’t seen that one yet. The movie that blew me away this year is Pan’s Labyrinth, followed by Children of Men.

  67. About Kat and her comments..well,I did not expect her to speak with the knowledge of someone who has lived many years. She is only 22…..No, I’m not waiting for great wisdom…..just a good song or two to listen at!…It is American Idol….not a public speaking for adult award show or best in intellect contest.(they have spelling bee,etc to handle those areas)..its a bunch of unknown young ones that suddenly get famous and learning thier way…I never expect of them to be “professionals” so early in the game.

  68. Morning all! Elliott fan here! Taylor is my 2nd fav! I am not a member of The Yaminions, but a bulletin was sent to me about them. Thought that E Fans that frequent this site may want the information.

Yaminions is shutting down, but don’t despair! On Sunday, 01/28/07, Yaminions.com– a virtual institution for the ongoing appreciation for artist, Elliott Yamin– is shutting its doors. (Actually, it is going to be reborn as RoyalMisfits.com.) According to the site administrator, former Yaminions can still find Elliott info within the new site. For more info on Yaminions’ transition, please click here. Elliott fans should not despair. Instead, please focus on other ways in which you can support Elliott. For instance, if you’re still not a member of EtrainStation.com, please join in and be an active poster. A new ‘Street Team’ has just formed; be a part of it! If you’ve got Elliott Yamin blog sites, keep them updated with your expressions of fandom. Let’s turn this sad turn of events into positive, constructive energy–and keep Elliott’s momentum going.

CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR E’S SINGLE AND UPCOMING CD.

  69. Oh, RAY. I know that there are 11 of you and that you already have some…err, “unusual” ideas about young people…but in the REAL world, where most of us exist, there’s a huge difference between a 22 year old and a 12 year old. She’s not a teenager, she’s an adult, and frankly, I don’t know anyone that age who would be embarrassed to admit that they like a performer simply because that performer isn’t “in.” She’s an adult, which means in my book, she gets held to task for her statements. No more “aww, she’s so young!” passes from me.

  70. RE: Simon Has the right to his opinion in America

Nobody is questioning his “right”, what we are questioning is his wisdom, class as a person, and his bias as a judge. And yes, we have the right to that too.

As for people in this site comparing Sarah Krueger and Kat’s version of SOTR and then asking the question — Does anyone else not see the hilarity and double standard in that?

Nope. there is a huge difference. We aren’t judges on NATIONAL TV where our opinions are being watched, listened to and dissected by millions of people. That would be like a Senator saying President Bush is a sonafabitch in private versus saying it on National TV ( not once but 3 times ).

If Simon doesn’t like any past idol winner, I am sure saying it once will suffice… continuing the obsessive put downs from the gum to Oprah to yesterday to who knows where else… is a sign that he hasn’t gotten over the public slamming he got for his mistake in Season 5.

  71. No more à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“aww, sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so young!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ passes from me.

I think the operative “pass” here is “Awww, she’s so purdy!” lol

  72. Metta, I loved his comments on JTFTW, since there have been so many discussions about what the song means:

“”The song is about taking your chance with that particular someone,” Hicks said. “You have to travel down that road with someone to get to the promised land, so to speak. The lyrics are what gravitated me to the song, and the melody is wonderful.”

I love how Taylor phrases things. I like that “Promised Land” description.

Oh heck, I just love the guy! LOL

  73. Metta Jan 24th, 2007 at 9:58 am

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll send it to you, rita.

Metta, would you send it to me too? I only have computer access at work and it won’t let me get to it. Thanks.

    lisa.mcdonald@gtri.gatech.edu

  74. rita – I agree. I had a different meaning for the song in my head. Love hearing his interpretation. His tour sounds like it will be great. Will you be able to catch any shows?

ETA – Will do, Lisa ATL :)

  75. A little mytery over at Gray’s. In the tour dates, he posted, this little line:

    *********Special Surprise******4/20/07

There is speculation it could be an AI appearance, but it is on a Friday. Plot thickens.

  76. rita – Interesting….does anyone remember the schedule Kirsten posted. What’s going on that nite on AI?

  77. Metta, that is on a Friday, and I don’t think AI is ever on Friday.

    I hate these mysteries. LOL

  78. Metta: Will do, Lisa ATL :)

thank you again. I didn’t read the article until after I responded to your email. Good article.

As for the special surprise on 4/20, I hate it when GC and Taylor screw with our minds. :wacko_tb:

  79. From Billboard :

“American Idol” contestant Chris Daughtry’s debut RCA album, released under his last name, ascends to No. 1 in its ninth week on The Billboard 200 by selling 65,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His margin over the No. 2 album, Music World’s “Dreamgirls” soundtrack, is the slimmest ever between the top two titles on this chart, at about 130 copies.

    ….

But it was another dire week at music retail, the third in a row that the No. 1 Billboard 200 album has shifted less than 100,000 copies. The last time this happened was in May and June of 1991, shortly after Billboard began using SoundScan sales data on the chart.

    …..

Album sales are down .05% from last week’s total and 14.7% from the same week a year ago at 8.09 million units.

  80. Oprah could single-handedly revive his CD sales. He needs to kick Gayle to the curb and be Oprah’s BFF. lol

  81. *********Special Surprise******4/20/07

Would that be about the time AI would be at six contestants? Supposedly they are doing a big “whoop-de-do” show around then and they said it might be on a different night. Maybe?

  82. I am dreaming of a Taylor/Elliott concert as the surprise for 4-20. Sigh – I know – I am truly dreaming here.

  83. So, based on the Billboard article, we now have these two additional pieces of info for these weeks numbers:

    2 Dreamgirls 65,267
9 Carrie Underwood “Some Hearts” 33,000 (rounded)

  84. I really liked Sundance Head’s audition and think he’s the best singer I’ve heard so far. I can see him going very far depending how he does in different genres. I think he compares very favorably to last year’s finalist auditions. I also liked the female back-up singer. I’m sure she’ll go far if she can work on her confidence. I wasn’t as impressed by the Castro look-alike. He was just okay to me although I’d love to see him with a makeover.

Good for Chris on his #1 album. Woohoo!

  85. Would that be about the time AI would be at six contestants? Supposedly they are doing a big à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“whoop-de-doà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ show around then and they said it might be on a different night. Maybe?

You are correct. Top 7 results is on the 18th and top 6 is on the 24th.

Friday is usually a pretty dead night for television, but AI is running out of nights on which to run their specials, so it could be.

  86. Metta,

Hubby and I will be seeing Taylor, here where we live, in Music City, at the Ryman, March 8. Just SIX weeks !!!

    We are SO excited!

  87. Bean, I liked Sundance Head as well. Loved the voice.

I’m also a happy Daughtry fan today as well!! Congrats to Chris!

  88. Ryaman will be awesome. Sharon8 will be there, too. Are you planning to meet up? I met her at Woodlands. She’s just great.

  89. Morning all.

Metta, how are the vacation plans coming? Did you pick a destination yet?

Last night, after the Sundance guy sang, in my mind I predicted that Simon would say something negative about Taylor. It was extremely scripted in my opinion. I really can’t wait until this audition crap is over.

  90. Hi Little Debbi – The plans they are creeping along. But, I’ve narrowed it down to the Caribbean at least. How about you?

  91. Kat – What you said. There was nothing Taylor-like about the dude. Therefore the comparison was a random excuse for Simon to diss Taylor. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no double standard in pointing that out. Try again, Kat fans.

. I think Simon was just after the shock value, just like he was last year when he said he preferred Kellie to Carrie.

As for Sundance – yep – he can sing and is definitely a contender. Reference to Taylor is pure Simon and shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be taken too seriously, imo.

    Good Morning everyone..

I agree with all of these three quotes. Simon had no real reason to mention Taylor last night but he did. You must also remember that these videos were back in the Summertime when the AI Tour was rapping up and Taylor spirit was still looming large.

I still don’t see the insult. I don’t think Taylor walks on water. I like his style of singing. I did not vote for him because he was the best technical singer nor the most powerful. In saying that, I think Sundance was very good. He has a really nice, bluesy sounding voice. If he being preceived to be better than Taylor by someone who did not want Taylor to go through, then that said to me,…even with all the crap Simon threw Taylor’s way…,he can sing. I seriously don’t see the insult. I more see it as another way to gettin people to watch because he is saying we have a contender for the throne.

Every year I hope they get someone better than the year before. If they can’t, then what’s the point. They might as well close up shop and cancel AI. I personally don’t think this guy will go as far as Simon predicted and that was befor the comment, but only time will tell. If he can keep his head right and not come across to full of himself, he can make it. He also have to SING week in and week out. Taylor has cross that bridge. Sandance wants to be where Taylor is at right now. I wish him all the best..

I wish all these young men and women luck. AI is a pressure-cooker.

  92. Has anyone seen the pic of Taylor at vftw.com? Love it. Honestly I think they’ve always been good to Taylor. Understood how he wasn’t what AI wanted. Always fun to have the last laugh.

  93. o, my gut reaction to Sundance was that he sounded like Elliott, not Taylor. So Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s comment came out of left field for me. Its just about making the show entertaining. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think for a minute that Simon really dislikes Taylor. Simon was actually very gracious on Oprah when he apologized to Jennifer Hudson.

I agree. His voice has a tone very similar to Elliott. Sundance is just more powerful I guess. I am still not sure how well he is going to do with the theme nights. We will see.
I still love Taylor’s tone much more, he just has a raspier sound, more like Rod Stewart/Michael McDonald. I just love those kind of voices.

By the way I am so excited Taylor is going to be making a video. That’s so cool. I knew they were planning one.
The MTV article was great, Taylor is such a nice guy praising Chris’ success. He was excited for him, so sweet.

Taylor’s time to shine will come slow and steady but he will get there. To sell 600,000 copies without a single is great.
I hope his single does well. And with a video, to go with it it will get even more esposure.
Good things happen to good people, sooner or later. Taylor deserves it, no doubt about it.

  94. …..taking a break a week or so from here. Tired of “its all about Taylor”. Do say he really deserves the title. He has become an “idol” and there should be no other gods before him. So, I will not be disturbing the church “service” for awhile!:)

  95. Oh, RAY. I know that there are 11 of you and that you already have someà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦err, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“unusualà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ideas about young peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦but in the REAL world, where most of us exist, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a huge difference between a 22 year old and a 12 year old. No more à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“aww, sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so young!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ passes from me.

I didn’t get the impression that she didn’t like the Celine any more, but just that she wasn’t going to make an album of Celine type music because that isn’t what is in anymore, which seems like a very reasonable position to me.

I thought that was a very good interview with her and she came off very well in it.

  96. maracaibo: Good things happen to good people, sooner or later. Taylor deserves it, no doubt about it.

I agree. And even it if is later, I will still be there to see it.

  97. Has anyone seen the pic of Taylor at vftw.com? Love it. Honestly I think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve always been good to Taylor.

I suspect that they do like Taylor and respect him for standing up to Idol. Here is what they said in that article MJ linked on the main page discussing what really happens during auditions:

“Most of all, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have a mind of your own like Taylor Hicks, who refused to sing his coronation song until a new one was written for him. It might make the producers mad that their puppet is talking back to them. “

    Last post from yesterday’s thread…

There’s no double standard, xo. Did Simon remark after that girl sang OTR, “She just blew Katharine out of the water.”?

I think that those of us who mentioned Sundance said that he had a very nice voice. I thought he did anyway. I also thought the girl who sang OTR had a very nice voice, and I liked the way she sang OTR better than Kat – it was more simple, without all that melisma junk that Kat can’t seem to make it through a few lyrics without.

Right now, at this point, I couldn’t pick either Sundance OR that girl out of a group of the idols for the life of me. If I heard only their voice, singing a different song, I still wouldn’t be able to identify either of them as “that” girl or “that” guy who sang so well on their audition.

TAYLOR’s voice I would remember. TAYLOR I would have been able to pick out of any group of contestants they showed last year. AFTER one AUDITION of his.

To me, there is no double standard at all, so I don’t get the “hilarity and double standard “ you mentioned.
We WERE talking about Simon and his putting Taylor down every chance he gets. He didn’t mention Katharine (to my knowledge) when that girl sang OTR at her audition.

  99. Reminder:

Could we back off on the fan-base sniping? Please stick to expressing your opinions on the Idols and the show rather than on your fellow posters. Thank you.

  100. Speaking of votefortheworst, they sum up ***’s recent Entertainment Weekly interview thusly:

So Katharine calls Idol a silly show (no, really), thinks she’s a legitimate artist, admits she will hate her own song in a year. I think America hates it already. Her agent needs to be fired, stat. Since that won’t happen, expect another crotch shot within a week.

  101. Kirsten…thanks I hadn’t read the article, just happened to run across the pic when I was on the site. I’ll check it out. I guess it pays to actually read things sometimes…lol

  102. LisaB, thanks for the MTV article. Taylor is the southern gentleman, once again, praising Chris for his songwriting abilities and for being an artist. I am always impressed with the positive vibes Taylor gives out, he is a class act. I saw on GC that he was on the Kimmell show with the 2 guys that Simon had bludgeoned so unmercifully last week and told them not to pay any attention to Simon, lol. He apparently interacted well with them. He is such a nice person and in this day and age, that in my book, is something very special. Sorry you can’t see those qualities in him Ray.

Phantom at GC posted the California schedule for Tay. My son lives in San Fran and I was planning a spring trip, so if I can get tickets I am so there. WHOOO!!! He isn’t coming to Indy and I can’t make the Columbus or Chicago trip and I was so sad that I wouldn’t get to see him.

I see they aren’t on ticketmaster yet, is there an early way to get these tickets, does anybody know?

    xo,

Do you have a basic understanding of the difference between ordinary people on a blog stating their opinions and a Simon, a judge on AI, slamming the reigning Idol on national television?

The double-standard which you trot out with tiresome regularity does not apply in this particular instance.

Dang, cat! I brought xo’s post over from yesterday’s first thing this morning because I wanted to comment on it – did not read any posts before I copied and pasted and replied.

Kudos – you said it with much fewer words than I did! :)

  104. Dang, Metta…I’ll have to add vftw to my favorites! Is anyone else having problems with this site loading?

DING DING DING. I believe we have a winnah…. I’d bet the “surpise” is Taylor appearing on the AI special event. Perhaps the AI special event is a reunion special featuring the winners and runners-up, or something along those lines…

  106. I liked Sundance’s voice but was surprised that Simon went as far as he did. Sundance is more commercial than Taylor was at that point in the process last year? What is that based on? Yet Simon didn’t raise whether or not Sundance could be commercial at all even though the singer he most closely resembled from last year was Elliott who they DIDN’T sign! Makes my head spin.

  107. # Pamster Jan 24th, 2007 at 10:32 am

I am dreaming of a Taylor/Elliott concert as the surprise for 4-20. Sigh – I know – I am truly dreaming here.

NOW THAT WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE! :jittery_tb:

  108. If I read one more reference of Taylor sounding like Michael McDonald I’m gonna’ shoot someone.

Taylor, other than being prematurely grey doesn’t sound ANYTHING like the smooth baritone voice that Michael has…..not even close.

Using a gravelly scream to hit anything an octave above your talking voice does not equate to singing in my book.

Simon was DEAD ON with his comments about Sundance vs Taylor.

Sorry but I am a HUGE Doobie Brother’s fan….even though I liked them better pre M.M….I’ve still spent countless hours with their music and Taylor has many miles to go to even be mentioned in the same breath.

Having a gimmick and a schtick doesn’t give you music cred in my book.

  109. For those who missed the article on MTV about Taylor Hicks.. here’s the link :

    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1550642/20070123/index.jhtml

    EXCEPRT
    ————————–
Yes, eight months after he was crowned, Taylor Hicks is still a breath of fresh air to the franchise that has focused on, well, not-so-obscure covers. And, while Chris Daughtry is the one dominating the album charts, Hicks is slowly making his move.

    Although heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d previously called dance-floor-friendly à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Runaroundà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ his first single (see à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Taylor Hicks Hopes à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Traveling Circus Of Fansà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Follows Him On Tourà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ), Hicks is now releasing the ballad à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Just to Feel That Wayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as what his record label is calling the first à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“officialà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ single.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Usually you have the single and then the album, but we did it the opposite way and that allowed it to get out there to the fans, who could say what they thought the best song was,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Hicks explained. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“And thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really cool.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    ————————

So, it looks like the decision to NOT drop a single early had Taylor’s approval. Can’t blame his management team here regarding this out of the ordinary decision ( rightly or wrongly ).

  110. If I read one more reference of Taylor sounding like Michael McDonald Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gonnaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ shoot someone.

Well, shoot me. I heard his version of Takin’ It to the Streets and Mcdonald’s version and the similarity is uncanny. So consider me one who disagrees.

  111. Jersey:

For those interested, Gray posted a supposedly complete list of Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour dates. It includes CA dates, Washington DC, another date in NJ amongst others. MaryS – the NJ date is the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a Wednesday night (between Westbury and AC).

I get Tuesday (4/10, yes?) but either way I’m game for this one for sure. It’s not that far from home, and it would be fun to see Taylor in a general admission/bar setting as well as a sit-down concert setting. How about you? You up for one more? :smile1_tb:

  112. Little Boy Blue – Lisa B already posted the link to that article this morning. Re. The single, I think Taylor is just putting a positive spin on some serious bungling.

  113. Having a gimmick and a schtick doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t give you music cred in my book.

Well, I think he has a beautiful, raspy, soulful, emotive voice that sounds nothing like Michael McDonald. So I will grant you that the comparison is ineffective. ;-)

  114. Speaking of votefortheworst, they sum up ***à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s recent Entertainment Weekly interview thusly:

Kat never called Idol a silly show. She was talking about The Mickey Mouse Club in reference to Justin Timberlake. In fact, she seems to have a lot of respect for the show and what it did for her.

    From a recent interview:

And how will ‘American Idol’ figure into your future? Will you try to distance yourself from it?

I would love to come back this season. I know where I came from, and I’m really grateful and excited to see the people I was with for nine months. Your credibility, if you become successful, will come. Kelly Clarkson has made herself very credible and accepted. And I don’t think there’s any rush to separate yourself. I think people are accepting ‘Idol’ more and more as a legitimate competition for talent.

  115. Ray – You are a great fan of Kat’s. I hope nobody was mean to you (even though I don’t like Kat much). The way it usually works, is that the more snark an idol gets, the better they do in the “real world.” So, Kat should do great. I liked Sundance’s voice (didn’t sound like E to me) but I can’t see him going far. AI6 feels completely flat so far.

  116. RE: For those interested, Gray posted a supposedly complete list of Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour dates. It includes CA dates, Washington DC, another date in NJ amongst others. MaryS – the NJ date is the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a Wednesday night (between Westbury and AC).

So, how many venues do we have thus far ? It first started with 13 when originally announced, then slowly up to 25 and now… I can’t even count.

What are the factors that cause the added venues ?

  117. VFTW is a hyperbolic snark site. I doubt they’re concerned with checking the veracity of each and every Kat quote, or Taylor quote for that matter.

  118. This is the way I see view points on idolsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ever been to a church where everyone is pretty much the same denomination except you?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦everyone is nice and pratices tolerance and says they welcome all but you are wrong in your perspective unless you agree with the congregation. You just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“get ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ unless you think the same way with the congregation gathered. Welcome!

It’s tribalism – as old as human culture. “My Idol is better than your Idol.” My NFL team is better than your NFL team.” “My God is better than your God.” “My Nation is better than your Nation.” My values are better than your values.” Etc., Etc., Etc.

We cleave to those who share our “group”, whether it’s a preference for a particular contestant on a reality tv show, a religion or a political party. We defend our “tribe” against attack, and we attack other “tribes” who “threaten” our deeply-held convictions.

    Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

  119. If I read one more reference of Taylor sounding like Michael McDonald Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gonnaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ shoot someone.

Me too. Michael McDonald has always sounded really odd to me. I don’t care for his voice.

Congrats to Daughtry on his #1, congrats to Kat on being, like the shallowest person ever and stuff, and congrats to Taylor on his inevitable spin in Arkansas today. :)

After absorbing last night’s show, I’m still not blown away by Sundance, but I don’t like to be slapped in the face with big voices, just a personal preference. I care more about an interesting tone more than I do about technical stuff.

I still like the Castro/Sean guy after listening to a tune or two on myspace. Kind of a Ray LaMontagne-y quality to his voice (although probably with the same limitations). Would be fun to see his song choices since he seems to be so devout – oh, and a pointy pose from him would be awesome. He’s most likely doomed though.

  120. My personal feeling is that the music industry is changing…

CDs aren’t selling much these days and with iTunes and Zune on the horizon, everyone is downloading. There isn’t a lot of money you can make selling CDs anymore.

I think that if a musician wants to make serious profit, touring is the way to go.

RE: Taylor’s single and the MTV article.

Somewhere buried in the article is a mention that THERE WILL BE A VIDEO PRODUCED FOR JTFTW !

  121. Nostradamas, I always thought the description that Taylor is a cross between Michael McDonald and Joe Cocker was a good one. His voice has some similarities to Michael’s but isn’t nearly as smooth.

  122. We cleave to those who share our à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“groupà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , whether ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a preference for a particular contestant on a reality tv show, a religion or a political party. We defend our à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“tribeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ against attack, and we attack other à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“tribesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ who à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“threatenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ our deeply-held convictions.

And it’s fun. I had a question on my blog today from someone wanting to know what I thought about the phenomena of the “anti fan base” in general. People have liked or disliked celebrities since the dawn of, well, celebrity; it’s just that the internet makes it easier to find people who share your dislike. The communicative effect and the grouping makes it seem “bigger” than it really is, I think/

  123. Somewhere buried in the article is a mention that THERE WILL BE A VIDEO PRODUCED FOR JTFTW !

    —————

Hardly buried, it’s not that large an article.

Do you ever read any of the posts on this blog? There would be alot less repetition if you did.

  124. Metta-Now with ray gone it will be easier. :devil_tb:

I don’t get it. Its just a function of a site that may have more posters that like one singer more than another. There are kat phans here that snark on Taylor, there are Elliott fans that have snarked on Taylor, there are chris fans that have snarked on Taylor. There ARE Taylor fans that snark on Taylor. Sorry to fans of other idols that have snarked on Taylor and didn’t get mentioned.

So when Taylor fans snark its bad. They must be such bullies, Give me a break. The people here are actually pretty cool. IMO, Taylor has been the most abused AI winner in history.

I skimmed the salon.com article and its not so bad IMO. Celine Dion might have been big 10 years ago but I’ve always felt she sucked.

  125. I just saw Clay perform on Megan Mullaly…poor boy sounded awful. He looked miserable too. I guess it was just an off day for him.

  126. ‘Idol’ Fever, Playoff Appearance Help Daughtry Finally Get To #1

..Daughtry’s feat also marks a first in “American Idol” history, as he becomes the first of the show’s contestants to take the chart’s #1 spot not in the two weeks immediately following his album’s release. After debuting at #2 with 259,000 sold nine weeks ago, his album has fallen out of top 10 just once, when it finished at #11 four weeks ago..

  127. LBB,

Yes the industry is changing…..and I say ABOUT TIME!

Too long the record companies decided who we heard and when…now there’s many other avenues to get your music out there…..except the radio payola still exists….but hopefully that’ll change with time.

Besides, iTunes and other LEGAL d/l sites still pay royalties to artists and writers…so there’s still money to be made.

Touring usually is a money looser for many top acts due to the cost of the “traveling circus” and other overhead costs.

  128. Congrats to Daughtry on his #1, congrats to Kat on being, like the shallowest person ever and stuff, and congrats to Taylor on his inevitable spin in Arkansas today.

    Beautifully put, cheese! HAHAHAHA!!

I liked Sundance and the backround singer. I will happily root for them both, but I wasn’t blown away by them.

Can’t wait to see Taylor in Denver!! Have to travel to see him again. *sigh*

C’mon Taylor! I get to see Chris in my town, why not you?

  129. Sarona man appears on ‘American Idol’

..Benham was watching the show at a friendà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s home in Hayward when he saw himself on the screen. Almost immediately his cell phone rang from friends and family.
Over the next days the media followed with calls from Rolling Stones, U.S. News and World Report, and radio interviews from Milwaukee, Missouri, New York and Oregon.
Over the weekend, a still image of his audition appeared on NBCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s national weekend morning show, and Benham is getting daily reports of other shows that used clips from the show.
    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Someone told me they saw a clip of me on Geraldo Riveraà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ he said..

  130. Taylor says this of his tour :

I’m gonna have an eight-piece soul band on the road with me,” Hicks said giddily. “I’ve handpicked all the players. Touring is in my blood, and I’m excited about the music I’m gonna perform.”

Hmmm… makes me wonder what that will be composed of…

    Let’s see :

1 KEYBOARD ( alternate between Loren Gold and Brian Less ?? ). I see no point in having 2 keyboards.

2 SAX ( Jeff Lopez being one of them )
    1 drum
2 back-up singers ( or maybe 1 if other instrumentalist also do backup ).
    1 bass
    1 lead
    1 acoustic

I guess that’s his touring cast.

  131. I like Sundance and Melinda Dolittle (‘Background singer’) too and I also liked the guy whose wife had a baby – Philip Joel Stacy. His voice seems very mellow and I hope all three of these are able to make it in the Hollywood round. Other than them, from the others that we have seen, I have liked the brother, Sanjaya, and the latino Rudy Cardenas. Also thought Jordin Sparks (Curly-haired daughter of NFL player) was good.

I sure hope they plan to show more in the Hollywood shows than usual, cuz we are going to have a lot of catching up to do to see all of the hopefuls before they get to the live shows.

Dave, I don’t think it’s so bad that Taylor fans snark on others but at times it feels like people are ganging up at times simply because there are more Taylor fans here than any other of the idols. I just skip those posts for the most part. I like to be able to get my own snarks in at times so really can’t complain. :cool1_tb:

The only thing that bothers me is the the constant Taylor praising. It gets gaggy after so long so I take breaks from it myself here and there. Again, it’s only so bad because of the #s of posts. I know I dislike him a lot more than I probably would have if I’d never come here. I know people feel the same way about Chris posts but there aren’t nearly as many Chris fans here. Nothing wrong with it but might explain how fans of others feel sometimes.

These are only observations, not criticism for any of our posts because we all do it with our faves. I’m looking forward to more discussions of season 6 as it gets farther along.

  133. Ex-Idol Idles Dreamgirls on Chart

..American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry played the spoiler, capping a nine-week climb to the number one spot with his eponymous band’s eponymous debut, Daughtry. For the week ended Sunday, the disc sold 65,398 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, topping Dreamgirls by a scant 134 discsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the narrowest margin ever between the top two albums..

  134. Griz, where are you? Finally the Ca dates are announced with Pala being the only definite. TBD on the Los Angeles one. The L.A. one will be hard to get tickets to. Now I am nervous.

  135. mj, if you are still here, everytime I come here I get this message on the front page:

    Error 404 – Not Found
Oh no! You’re looking for something which just isn’t here! Fear not however, errors are to be expected, and luckily there are tools on the sidebar for you to use in your search for what you need.

I’ve had it for awhile and thought you weren’t updating. Any idea what I should do?

And I’m at the point with Simon and AI in general that I’m really wondering if they will have Taylor back to perform on the show. Because even if Simon is slamming Taylor left and right, they don’t have to show it. They can edit it out. They are showing it for a REASON. I’m not sure what that reason is, but how can they invite back an Idol winner that has been slammed three times in three episodes??

  136. mad – I’m doing the happy happy dance!!!!! Pala Casino is a WONDERFUL place – lots of big acts perform there and it’s a lot closer to me than Pechanga!!!

There will be LA and Orange County shows – they’re prolly securing them now. They were listed at the House of Blues in both places, but are now TBA.

I might go to the OC one when it’s announced as well. And VEGAS baby!!! HoB in Vegas – will be going to that one too!!

    I’m a happy camper today!

And video for JTFTW???? Lordy, help me! haha!!

  137. Congratulations to Daughtry on their #1 status!

I like Sundance and Phil so far this year. :smile_wp:

  138. I get the same message as Abilymom on my work computer (Error 404). Not on my home computer though.

  139. You are tired of her but you go reading articles about her?

Only for the snark Allen, only for the snark.

  140. griz………I’m glad that you have a choice on venues. I couldn’t get the person I am going with to go to HOB and be in all the madness if my life depended on it. But Pala is a different story. Will have to see what comes up in L.A. I will be very unhappy if I miss out this time.

  141. rebookmark it as just mjsbigblog.com

i think the old bookmark had mjsbigblog.com/index(or something like that)

  142. Hello, everyone. :)

Is anyone familiar with Hickory Records? Is it Elliott’s label?

Wait, what happened to Ray? I had not read all the threads yet. Is he leaving? :(

Are people at chat? I can’t get chat to load on my home PC on dial up connection. Ugh! :s

  143. I’m tired of her, does that mean I should stop posting any articles related to her? :rolleyes_tb:

Doesn’t seem fair to her fans though, so I’ll carry on posting all articles for all ‘idols’ regardless as to whether I like them or not.

You have the path to my old site bookmarked. Change your bookmark to this: http://mjsbigblog.com/ and it should work. Or, just click on “American Idol” in the header, and it will take you to the front page.

I have to set up some sort of re-direct for the old link…

Can you come down to San Diego? It’s not that far – would LOVE to meet up with you! As soon as the date is etched in stone, I’m calling to see when tickets go on sale.

I’m not crazy about the HoB as a concert venue (they’re cramped), but I’ll go if I have to. The Pala Venue is a sit down theater – that’s the one I’m looking forward to the most.

  146. Thanks everyone else too with the suggestion to change the bookmark. Worked like a charm!

I think this got lost in my post and I’m curious to see what people think:

And Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m at the point with Simon and AI in general that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m really wondering if they will have Taylor back to perform on the show. 147. I can’t believe Taylor has all this Texas tour dates (Dallas, San Antonio, Austin) and no HOUSTON! HELLO?
Why is HOuston being ignored? It just happens to be the largest city in Texas?
Bummer… I am really really sad, unfortunately I can’t drive or travel to any of those cities. All I got left is to hope and wish that Houston will included on the Texas mix.. I can’t believe my bad luck. :down_tb:

  148. griz……..yes, I just talked to my sis, who will be with me, and for sure we would go to Pala. The theatre is great, and it is sit down and we can have some other fun at the casino as well. It would be great to meet, so hope we are both lucky to get tickets. Of course will have to see what venue in L.A. they get.

  149. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe Taylor has all this Texas tour dates (Dallas, San Antonio, Austin) and no HOUSTON! HELLO?

    Houston, we have a problem…

    (Had to be said)

  150. Thanks Rita – I passed on the AI tour in the summer, so this will be the first time seeing Taylor live – so excited!

  151. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m tired of her, does that mean I should stop posting any articles related to her?

You post articles for pretty much everything idol related, which is very nice of you and I appreciate it. So it doesn’t seem strange to me that you post articles about Kat even if you don’t care for her since you are trying to be inclusive.

And I fully understand that some people scour every Kat tidbit on the net for things to “snark” about.

I just don’t understand why if you are tired of someone, that you would specifically go read about them. No big deal, just curious as to why.

  152. Abilymom:

Because even if Simon is slamming Taylor left and right, they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to show it. They can edit it out. They are showing it for a REASON.

I don’t get it either Abilymom. Unless Simon has gone completely off the deep end and he mentions Taylor almost constantly, so that he hasn’t left much film for the editors to play with.

Taylor’s tour card is filling up, so I’m not sure if he will have time to show up. If not March 1st, possibly in April.

Who knows, maybe this is some psychotic ratings game where Simon will become increasingly rabid about Taylor (dare we hope for foaming at the mouth?) and then when Taylor goes on the show, people will tune in in droves to see the fireworks only to have Simon and Taylor end up hugging and being BFF. Perhaps Dr. Phil will be involved. Enemy ombatants, the world around will watch in awe. Sunnis will embrace Shites, the problems in Dafur will be resolved, Donald and Rosie will swap hairdressers. The river of goodwill and peace will flood the planet and birds will sing.

The sun is shining here after 12 days of rain….can you tell?

  153. Auditions were OK last night. Sundance was pretty good but don’t know how he will do with other genres. I know what I’m really tired of is that we have 1 or 2 celebrity family members as contestants each year. Jordin Sparks dad is an ex-NFL player, and Sundance’s dad was a famous blues singer in the 60s. Did anyone else see Jordin’s picture in TV Guide (either this week’s or next can’t remember)? I’m sure there will be a number of contestants with curly hair but man this is taking pimping a contestant to a whole new level… Based on Simon’s comments, I wonder if she’ll just be the Paris Bennet for AI6? Also they said, 22 people were put through but I’m sure we didn’t see all of the rest in the montage at the end of the show did we?

  154. rita……..be happy for me too.(smile) I also had to pass on the AI tour last summer and this might be the only chance I ever get to see Taylor live.

Nostradamus (way upthread) Did you predict Taylors win? I had to ask that.

griz……some of the casinos only have sales at their boxoffice. I need to check that out too. That might be awkward to run down there and hope you get seats. I have to get two together also. My sis is a newbie fan and wouldn’t want to sit alone and has no idea what has been going on on the internet as far as following Taylor. Especially all those hawt pics! LOL

  155. Carp! I can’t seem to write a post without it being caught by the filters.

One last time with almost no words…

Abilymom, I agree with you about the editors/Simon/Taylor.

  159. Hey – at least Texas has 2 performances by Taylor! We have zip here in Michigan. He’s in Illinois twice, Ohio twice. Nothing in Michigan even tho the Idol tour had 2 stops in Michigan & Detroit is the home of Motown, and LiMBO said Detroit was one of their favorite cities to visit! My choices were Chicago HoB or Cleveland HoB, so we’re doing Chicago so we can make a long weekend out of it. Train & hotel added in makes it around $700 for a concert. I’d drive to the Columbus, OH show if it wasn’t mid-week. I’d have to take 2 vacation days, and I’m already doing that for Chicago…

  160. bouldersoul, that’s hilarious! thanks. I didn’t see/hear the interview.

  161. But wait, Boulder Soul, what about this part:

I have a lot of background in theater and a lot of background in standards and stuff like that because that’s what I grew up listening to as well. But I do have a lot of pop influences; that’s what I grew up listening to. I didn’t listen to standards; my CD collection wasn’t Frank Sinatra singing the American songbook. It was 102.7 Kiss FM with Rick Dees in the morning listening to all the cool Top 40 songs. That’s what I grew up listening to.

That was MY favorite quote. I did grow up listening to standards, I didn’t grow up listening to standards, I did, I didn’t, i did…Oh i am soooo confoosed

  162. That was MY favorite quote. I did grow up listening to standards, I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t grow up listening to standards, I did, I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t, i didà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Oh i am soooo confoosed

Opps, I forgot that beauty. :)

  163. madaboutu, I am thrilled for you! I can’t wait to see him, either.

  164. Yes, Kirsten. Everyone seems to think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll perform on the show, but I wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be holding my breath for that.

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be the same as Kat inviting Meatloaf over for tea and crumpets after her People video.

If they think it will get ratings to have Taylor return, they’ll have him back at some point. Perhaps the finale or the big “suprise” show. I wouldn’t be suprised if they don’t have him back in the early rounds like they did with many other Idosl

The only thing to wonder about is if Simon will pretend to like him or not. I’m thinking he’ll act the same way as he did at the finale where he stayed sitting while Randy and Paula gave Taylor a standing O (Simon did eventually stand up…I think Nigel crawled over and stuck him with a pin or lit his chair on fire or something).

  165. I think I figured out what the “Special Surprise” is on April 20:

It’s the day Taylor is gunna beat the SHIT out of Simon at Madison Square Garden!

    Who’s getting tickets?? ;)

  166. Maybe she has multiple personalities.

    Yes, Dumb and Dumber.

  167. See Stryker, you gotta understand Kat. Her parents played standards, so she listened to them. But she wasn’t listening, because she was listening to Top 40. But her mom was training her, so she had to listen to standards to sing them, but she wasn’t listening to them, like, because she wanted to listen to them. So she wasn’t listening.

  168. Will Taylor’s April 20 surprise has anything to do with Baseball? Like throwing the first pitch or singing the national anthem at an Orioles game or something?

  169. Whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s getting tickets?? ;)

Now, even though I don’t like MSG very much (too crowded), I would definitely buy tickets for that one. I think the hardest thing would be keeping all the people in the audience from jumping on stage and joining in on the a$$ kicking.

ANYONE TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS AN HEALTHY OR ADMIRABLE PERSON?

    Yes.

    :blink_tb:

  171. Taylor says this of his tour :

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gonna have an eight-piece soul band on the road with me,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Hicks said giddily. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve handpicked all the players. Touring is in my blood, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m excited about the music Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gonna perform.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Hmmmà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ makes me wonder what that will be composed ofà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s see :

1 KEYBOARD ( alternate between Loren Gold and Brian Less ?? ). I see no point in having 2 keyboards.

2 SAX ( Jeff Lopez being one of them )
    1 drum
2 back-up singers ( or maybe 1 if other instrumentalist also do backup ).
    1 bass
    1 lead
    1 acoustic

    I guess thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s his touring cast.

According to info from Gray’s and band members’ myspace sites here’s some info. The last two names were posted today by a sound technician who is a friend of Taylor. This leaves 2 open slots so wonder if the backup singers will still be on the tour. The drummer may have been referring to the promo tour during the holidays–not the album tour, so that’s questionable.

    Jeff Lopez – Sax
    Brian Less – organ
    Loren Gold – keyboard
Drums – Felix Pollard? (listed on his myspace “on tour with Taylor Hicks”)
    Al Carty – Bass
    Josh Smith – Guitar

  172. So is Taylor going to be on “4+20” (pot reference to those who haven’t heard this term) or is that the date he’ll be on AI6?

Sorry, the irony was just too much to pass up…LOL!

  173. rita……..I am happy for all of us. Now if we can get our grubby hands on some tickets. :clap_tb:
griz……..I liked the clip of George Lopez on Kimmel last night where Kenneth said that Simon wasn’t kind to them and George says “I think we should go kick his a$$.”
And I know George could do it……. I looked at Pala venues and there are three. One is outdoors and no refunds rain or shine….it is rare to rain here in May. I don’t like outdoor venues as much because people tend to mess around more. Who am I to be so picky? Gotta run now!

  174. RE:

    Why is HOuston being ignored?

    and

Hey – at least Texas has 2 performances by Taylor! We have zip here in Michigan. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in Illinois twice, Ohio twice. Nothing in Michigan even tho the Idol tour had 2 stops in Michigan & Detroit is the home of Motown, and LiMBO said Detroit was one of their favorite cities to visit!

This goes back to the question I’ve been asking but can’t seem to get an answer for…

Taylor’s original announcement as far back as I can remember had 13 cities ( mostly South ). Slowly, it increased to 25 and now I can’t even count.

Which led to the un-answered question ….

    WHAT FACTORS HELP DECIDE :

    1) How many venues to increase for the tour..
    2) Which cities to tour ?

For #1 : I would guess that the clamor is there and the marketing team estimated that it would be profitable and worth the time/expense to add these tours.

    For #2:
I would guess that a city is bypassed because market studies show that they don’t have enough fans in those cities to get a decent return. Otherwise I can’t think of any good reason.

I live not far from Westbury, NY and I am bummed that they only have one show and it’s sold out. Why don’t they have a second show in NYC ? I guess one show is all the demand there is…

  176. I was just thinking — with his time all filled with these tour dates from February to May, the only time Taylor will have to guest on American Idol would be the finals.

And remember — This isn’t like the 60 city American Idol tour where he shares the limelight with 9 others. THIS IS A SOLO TOUR.

He’ll be exhausted by May. I am not sure if he’ll be 100% by the time he reached Portland or Seattle.

  177. carolina – Yes, I read that interview. You can always count on *** to provide hours of entertainment.

  178. The tour dates listed above have some errors. The latest info is on Gray’s site, updated this morning.

  179. Little Boy Blue, I may still have an extra ticket to Westbury. I’m commited to going to Westbury but if I’d known about the Starland Ballroom, I probably would’ve just gone there and AC (with jersey) and skipped Westbury because it’s Easter eve. But it also looks like there will be a show in NYC (TBD). I’d guess something like the Irving Plaza, which is a general admission kind of venue with a capacity of about 1000.

Wow, that’s a pretty full schedule Taylor’s got there.

  180. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be exhausted by May. I am not sure if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be 100% by the time he reached Portland or Seattle.

I disagree. Touring is Taylor’s “Jones” so to speak. He thrives and lives to perform in front of people. Each show will re-juvenate him even more – I think he’ll be more than fine. And since each show will be a bit different than the one before, it won’t get stale to him like the AI shows were.

This tour may end up being longer than the AI concert in the summer.

    Can’t wait to see him!!!

  181. LBB why not just provide the link?

Is it any wonder that posters suffer from Taylor Overload?

Closing the tags would help as well.

  182. Hmmm there goes the theory about april 20 surprise being on an american idol show — but —- there is still MY theory about Elliott joining him at a concert – and lookee there — it’s in Virginia. HMMMM, who do we know that has a Virginian connection?

Oh wouldn’t that be luverly? However, a VA concert wouldn’t do me any good down here in GA. Sigh.

  183. YAY! Taylor is coming to Las Vegas, and at at the HOB. The HOB is in the Madalay Bay Casino, one of my favorite casinos here in sin city.

  184. I don’t like Kat’s public persona or her music. However, I have no idea if she’s healthy, admirable, smart, dumb, etc. If I liked her music, I actually wouldn’t care how “smart” or “admirable” she was.
I’ll give her some credit. Her interviews have some bite to them. Taylor’s “all about the music” stuff is pretty dull.

  185. BoulderSoul: ***, YOUR 15 MINUTES ARE ABOUT UP.

Ah, to dream the impossible dream.

  186. griz………stopping by a minute. I posted a message to alltheanswers at GC about L.A. venues and he/she gave an answer. Possible Wiltern, which would be awesome. Fingers crossed for that.If not, Pala here I come. Later

  187. Rita – 5/23 for the finale – the concert tour might be done at that point, so that would’t be a problem.

  188. Possible Wiltern, which would be awesome. Fingers crossed for that.

Wiltern? Oh MY I saw Mike Nesmith there years ago – FABULOUS theater on the UCLA campus!! I’d be there for that no problem!

  189. good lord, thats 53 concerts! Taylor is going to be toast by the end. He struggled to get through the AI tour, which was 60 concerts x 5-6 songs/night. Its going to be interesting to see how he fares.

  190. RE: THE FILLMORE STAGE in San Francisco…

This is really a legendary venue where a lot of great performers launched their careers.

Some of those who started their tours at The Fillmore were — Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, The Who, Chuck Berry and Otis Redding.

  191. rita416: do you know what date the final show of AI is?

It should occur on May 23rd (projecting out from when the voting rounds start).

griz: Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m looking at Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour schedule and the ONLY dates he has free so far to appear on AI is

Don’t forget Thursdays. During the semi-finals, there will also be a show on Thursday (two nights of performances, one night of results). Isn’t Taylor still free on March 1st?

  192. Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t forget Thursdays. During the semi-finals, there will also be a show on Thursday (two nights of performances, one night of results). Isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Taylor still free on March 1st?

Nope – he has a show in Greensburg, PA on March 1.

That kinda sucks actually about the AI conflicting dates…

  193. good lord, thats 53 concerts! Taylor is going to be toast by the end. He struggled to get through the AI tour, which was 60 concerts x 5-6 songs/night. Its going to be interesting to see how he fares.

Let’s look at the bright side by counting the money —

53 concerts at average of 1600 audience per venue at average ticket price of $50 per venue… you get average gross profit of : $4,240,000 ( that does not include merchandise and the benefit of radio airplay ).

  194. Good news is that Lite 98 is a clear channel station, soft AC is the format.

  195. good lord, thats 53 concerts! Taylor is going to be toast by the end. He struggled to get through the AI tour, which was 60 concerts x 5-6 songs/night. Its going to be interesting to see how he fares.

Taylor will be doing what he loves..TOURING and SINGING some of his own songs…How thrilling….He can pick what songs to sing, and how many he wants to do….He certainly will know how to pace himself….Each concert will be different and the crowd will energize him…This is what he’s dreamed about…I am so happy for him….

  196. Hopefully, he’ll plan it out so he can get some decent sleep at night. I seem to recall the idols complaining that they couldn’t sleep much on the busses.

Lite 98 in Richmond, VA just played JUST TO FEEL THAT WAY!

I was the person who requested it! I asked Kat ( the DJ) if she would play it for my birthday. She said it wasn’t suppose to be released until February but she would check and see if she could play it. I am usually at work at this time but I took off half a day. Then I see that Taylor now has several concerts listed in Virginia. WOOOOOOO! :clap_tb:

  198. I was looking over the Saturday posts. Some really great musical memories. Thanks everybody.

What was the “big surprise” people were talking about for this week? The tour dates? Release to radio on 2/5? Something else?

  199. Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“all about the musicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ stuff is pretty dull.

Yeah, Kat makes things all interesting and fun with contradicting herself in one sentence and purdy clothes and shoes!! Music, schmusic I say.

  200. 53 concerts at average of 1600 audience per venue at average ticket price of $50 per venueà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Average ticket price of $50 per venue seems a wee bit high. I’m not a numbers nut but I think most venues have ticket prices around 30 to 35 bucks. If you tack on all the service fees associated with buying tickets you might inch up towards $50. I’m not sure how it works, I can’t even pretend to be an expert, but I don’t think those junk fees go towards Taylor’s gross.

  201. The only AI5 idol who gives good interviews is Kellie Pickler. She’s alot of fun and seems very real. The rest not so much.

Yeah, Kat makes things all interesting and fun with contradicting herself in one sentence and purdy clothes and shoes!! Music, schmusic I say.

I am so glad he’s dull right now. LOL I really, honestly would hate for the one idol I chose out of 5 seasons BECAUSE I CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF HIS MUSIC! to resort to the kinds of things *** does to stay in the news.

  203. Abilymom,lol on the *** contradicting stuff.

I think Taylor’s interviews are always good. On Leno he stole the show with his Paula is like a ride at 6 Flaggs comment, she is so up and down.

On Martha he was sooo cute with his “ah’m making a wreath with Martha” comment, even though he was making a garland, lol; and Marth’s “I’m playing harmonica with Taylor,” comeback was a riot.

On LKL,he talked about how other idols could win, made the “gray is here to stay” and when ‘Tasia said gray is wisdom, he said I am wise Simon. His answers are always wise and well thought out and he is supportive of other idols.

Then there was the Kellie Pickler on Leno comment about his dad,ie Leno, spending so many Christmas’s away from home.

I’m not sure if jpfan and I are watching the same interviews, but I am never bored with them, as a matter of fact they are too damned short, imo.

  204. Yes, I will agree: Kellie Pickler is the most natural and most entertaining idol of all, jpfan. I just love that girl!

  205. re:53 city tour

I think Taylor will be just fine with this. He will get to call the shots on the set list and flow of the show . During the AI tour I got the impression that the music director (keyboard player, he posted at GC and answered a few fan questions) had final say on the song list and it was the same for every show for the most part. Performing in an arena has got to be much more draining for a physical performer like Taylor who is trying to reach everybody in an arena. Then being stuffed on a bus with a bunch of other people for 3 months I’m sure wasn’t fun for any of them.
Taylor will have his own bus so he can really have some privacy and down time in between shows.

  206. Hi guys.

Ace will be on Larry King Live tomorrow (Thursday) night. :clap_tb:

  207. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll give her some credit. Her interviews have some bite to them. Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“all about the musicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ stuff is pretty dull.

  210. jpfan, I don’t know what the context is for Ace’s LKL appearance, but I’m trying to find out.

ETA: I just learned Kimberly Caldwell will also be on the show.

I imagine thew will talk about Idol. Ace will probably plug Scattered and HRwH. Oh, and Daughtry’s CD. Mellissa Joan Hart will call in and yell at him.

Is this the first time two Idol related CDs have been #1 and #2 on the charts at the same time? Nevada? Anyone?

Do you mean the SoundScan 200? I don’t believe so…there really haven’t been that many # 1s on the SoundScan 200 for the Idols:

Kelly’s “Thankful” debuted at # 1, but spent only one week there. And since hers was the first Idol album, there was no one with an opportunity to chart with her.

Ruben’s “Soulful” debuted at # 1, but spent only one week there. Clay’s “MoaM” was charting at the same time, but it had been out for 9 weeks at that point, and was # 11.

Clay’s “Moam” debuted at # 1 and so far is the ONLY Idol album to have spent two consecutive weeks at the top of the chart. His album was released prior to Ruben’s and six months after Kelly’s, so no overlap.

Fantasia’s “Free Yourself” debuted at # 8; Diana’s “Blue Skies” debuted at # 52. Obviously, neither would qualify.

Other Idols with albums out at the time: Kelly’s “Breakaway,” which debuted at # 3; Ruben’s “I Need an Angel,” which debuted at # 20, and Clay’s “Merry Christmas With Love,” which debuted at # 4.

Carrie’s “Some Hearts” debuted at # 2 and returned to # 2 in her 5th week, but although Kelly’s “Breakaway” was still charting in late 2005, she only managed # 8 in the week Carrie reclaimed that # 2 spot (12-20-05).

Probably the closest call is the week that Bo’s “The Real Thing” debuted at # 4 while Carrie was # 2 (12-20-05).

Clay’s “A Thousand Different Ways” debuted at # 2, but only Carrie was in the upper regions of the SS200 that week, and she was # 27.

I also checked for the “Now” series, since I seem to recall that various Idols have been included and those and a couple of issues have indeed charted # 1 or # 2, but none of them did so at a time when an Idol was in either spot.

Of course, the Hot Singles Sales chart is another story altogether…

  212. Indeedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’there lies the difference à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦for kat is has NEVER been about the Music

You mean when you are referred to as a HOOCHIE MAMA, it is NOT about the music? :doh_tb:

  213. Just got this email from Star 94 in Atlanta:

Americaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s favorite show is back! Last week, millions tuned in for the season premiere of American Idol. As the new search begins to unfold for the next Idol, Star 94 is bringinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ the current champ
    to town!

This email is going to Star 94 A-List members ONLYà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s your chance to see Taylor Hicks LIVE at the Tabernacle, Friday March 9th. Keep listening to Star 94 for exclusive access to all the big shows in 2007.

I would imagine before long I’ll start hearing him on the radio. The linkage between the tour and the radio push looks like it’s working.

  214. From Idol Chatter:

    > Carrie’s back in the top 10, moving from No. 15 to No. 9 by the simple expedient of selling the same number of records as the previous week (actually she sold 501 more, but both figures round off to 33,000). Total: 4.76 million

    > Taylor inches up 53-50, selling 15,000, compared to 14,000 the previous week, for a total of 587,000.

    > Kellie, who did some major TV last week, leaps 83-51, selling 14,000 after dropping under 9,000 the previous week. Total: 387,000.

    > Fantasia creeps up 68-66, with 12,000, a bit more than her previous-week total of 11,000. Total: 254,000.

    > Clay sold about the same as the previous week (1,900) to bring his total to 496,000 (almost there now).

    > Ruben sold around 3,000, about the same as the previous week, and is now at 196,000 total.

  215. YAY – Taylor tie ins to radio contests. That means he’ll be getting promotion (better late than never)

  216. griz: Nope – he has a show in Greensburg, PA on March 1.

Gray is showing that concert will occur on April 1st. March 1st still looks free on the list he currently has on his website.

  217. Oh, and of course now Chris’s “Daughtry” has climbed up a moribund SS200 chart to hit # 1 in its 9th week of release.

Speaking of which, here’s an update on Idol debut album sales through the first 9 weeks (in order of release):

    Kellyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thankfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,027,274
    Rubenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Soulfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,285,626
    Clayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“MoaMà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,716,220
    Fantasiaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Free Yourselfà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 801,154
    Carrieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Some Heartsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,794,540
    Boà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Real Thingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 524,657
    Kellieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Small Town Girlà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 352,716
    Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,292,730

  218. MaryS – Sayreville would be fun but three concerts in one week? Will we have crossed the line to obsessive? :wacko_tb: I agree with you, if I had known about the Starland Ballroom ahead of time, I would have not bothered with Westbury – now I have to think about it. What to do, What to do…

  219. Darn, messed that up, too. Clay’s album was released before Ruben’s.

  220. Gray is showing that concert will occur on April 1st. March 1st still looks free on the list he currently has on his website.

Ah you’re right!! Okay then – perhaps we’ll see him on AI then.

  221. So let’s do this in order by sales:

    Carrieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Some Heartsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,794,540
    Clayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“MoaMà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,716,220
    Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,292,730
    Rubenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Soulfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,285,626
    Kellyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thankfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,027,274

    And Happy Birthday!

  223. Okay then – perhaps weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see him on AI then.

And I still say I’ll believe it when I see it.

  224. griz: Nevada – whereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Taylor in your list?

That is the list of total 9 week sales…Taylor’s album hasn’t been out that long.

Nevada – whereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Taylor in your list?

Taylor’s album hasn’t been out for 9 weeks. I haven’t even seen his Week # 6 numbers yet. But here’s the 5 week comparison:

    Kellyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thankfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 695,573
    Clayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“MoaMà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,185,735
    Rubenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Soulfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,018,500
    Fantasiaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Free Yourselfà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 640,282
    Dianaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Blue Skiesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 109,019
    Carrieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Some Heartsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,101,454
    Boà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Real Thingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 471,194
    Kellieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Small Town Girlà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 193,185
    Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,044,771
    Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Taylor Hicksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 572,475

  226. And by order of sales, at the 5 week mark:

    Clayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“MoaMà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ = 1,185,735

  227. I can’t help but notice that Taylor isn’t on the list…

    ETA — oops never mind!

  228. Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s album hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been out for 9 weeks. I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even seen his Week # 6 numbers yet. But hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the 5 week comparison:

Taylor sold 15,000 more this week, so you can add thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I try to avoid those rounded numbers if possible, although sometimes that’s all there is to be found. (I hate when that happens….)

  231. Its interesting to see 5 and 9 week sales figures. Kellie is doing well. I just can’t believe that Taylor and his fans are happy with these numbers.

  232. Its interesting to see 5 and 9 week sales figures. Kellie is doing well. I just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe that Taylor and his fans are happy with these numbers.

It’s not happy or unhappy – they are what they are. That said, there is SO much more to look forward to with Taylor and his career than simply sales and placement on the Billboard Charts. There’s a major US tour, a new book coming out in April, book signings, more albums in the future…. Taylor is thrilled, I’m thrilled.

  233. Hey everyone, how was it today? Did Taylor get his spin in Arkansas? No time to skim can anyone summarize?

I know its probably been said already, but Sundance should have blown me away, but he didn’t. I’m not sure what it is, maybe the resemblance to Scott Savol. I liked the back up singer, but if she dosen;t grow some balls, she’s out of ther.e

  234. I just read over on Pulse that they are shipping 1.7 million copies of Norah’s CD. Pretty impressive given the depressed market for CDs this month.

Go Norah! (they should have a jazzy night on AI. Get Norah to be a guest. Of course, she doesn’t appear to need AI’s help to push an album).

  235. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not happy or unhappy – they are what they are. Griz, Well said, same way I feel.

    .

  236. DeDe – Kat on lite98 is great. Glad she got to play Taylor for you.

She is nice. She played both Bo and Taylor for me last summer but I usually don’t get to listen to her because I am at work. When I called Kat to request the song it was about 1:00 PM. I waited almost 2 hours and was about to give up when she finally made an announcement on air about 2:40. That’s when she said she was going to play the new Taylor Hicks song for me sometime before 3:00 PM. It was so great to hear Taylor on the radio. :biggrin_wp:

    And Happy Birthday!

Your comment about Jrecords is funny but true! Thanks for the Bday greeting. I usually only lurk here occaasionally late at night so it is interesting to check in during the day.

  237. I agree with you, if I had known about the Starland Ballroom ahead of time, I would have not bothered with Westbury – now I have to think about it. What to do, What to doà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

jersey, I’m really torn right now. We’re having a Girl Scout meeting at our house this evening, but I’ll email you afterwards.

  238. Hey JJ. You didn’t miss much.

    *** gave another stupid interview
    Taylor MTV thing at GC
Taylor added more tour dates – see GC
Everyone pissed at Simon’s comment last night
The Castro guy from last night has a myspace with songs (see first page of this thread).
Oh, and Griz is selling tickets for Taylor kicking Simon’s a$$ at Madison Square Garden.

  239. I just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe that Taylor and his fans are happy with these numbers.

What is so hard to believe? His numbers are decent since there has been no single or radioplay.

  240. Oh, and Griz is selling tickets for Taylor kicking Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a$$ at Madison Square Garden.

Hey Griz, can me kicking Metta’s a$$ be the opening act?

I did notice last night that Simon’s man tits are up to a nice healthy B cup.

Thank you griz…for your voice of reason. I so agree and please the competition is OVER!

  242. I just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe that Taylor and his fans are happy with these numbers.

    Sigh.

I don’t think Taylor is bothered by it at all. But I’m curious. What do you suggest we do? Hand-wringing? Gnashing of teeth? Slashing of wrists? The only people who seem to care about this are people who have something to “prove”. If it weren’t for the expecations on the Idol winner based on previous ones who are in different genres it wouldn’t be an issue.

Here’s another way of looking at it. A lot of the artists that I like don’t get massive radio play or sell 6-figures in their first week, let alone over 5 weeks. Taylor sold 298K and entered the Billboard chart at #2 his first week. Ray LaMontagne sold 28,000 of his “Til the Sun Turns Black” and peaked at #28 on the Billboard 200. Keb’ Mo’ sold about 6000 his first week with his album “Suitcase” and entered the Billboard top 200 at #176 back in June. He’s a Grammy award winning blues artist who has received mostly critical praise over his career. I like all of these artists. Should I be worried about their numbers too?

  243. Absolutely JJ – you and metta battle it out for the a$$ kicking opening act…

I’ll be waiting for the main attraction – Taylor tieing Simon’s a$$ in a pretzel and then kicking it into the East River.

BTW, anyone who missed the CUTE CUTE Kimmel bit last night with Taylor here you go!

I pre-ordered one of those 1.7 million. :) I hope she sells every single one of them in three weeks!

I read that DAUGHTRY’s original shipment was 750K (which sold very quickly!), Taylor shipped 1.2 million, and Kat will ship 350K. Are these the numbers you heard?

  245. I have a theory on the April 20th date. Didn’t they talk about doing an idol with just the winners??? That would be an interesting Friday night show.

  246. Chris fans:

    Latest blog message from Chris:

Hey guys. It’s been a crazy last few days. Spent a little time in Chicago, a little time in NY, and…a little more time in Chicago…in two days. I loved every minute of it.

The guys and I got to fly in a private jet from NY to Chicago on Monday and it was amazing. I think we were like 8,000 feet from space itself. I swear we were at least 10 minutes from the sun. I was told private jets go alot higher than commercial. I did not know that. I was so amazed at the view I was taking pictures with my phone but it didn’t do it justice.

    Anywho I’m ramblin’.

I can’t wait to see all of you on the road. It’s gonna be a fun tour. We wanted to play the small venues first because it’s so much more in your face and intimate. I’ve heard alot of you were upset that you couldn’t get tickets and I’m so sorry. But it’s ok because this club tour is just the beginning.

Hopefully we’ll be coming right back to your town in bigger venues later this year.
Until then, thank you all so much for the love and support. I couldn’t ask for better fans.
    -Chris

  247. Hi all!

Regarding Sundance Head and Simon/Randy’s comments. Those guys have a job to do: making sure that AI’s ratings stay up. What if they said (to any contestant) woah, great, but not as good as Taylor/Kat/Elliot/Chris (take your pick), but we’re still sending you on to Hollywood. Would you watch for the auditioner in excitement? They need you to think there are some singers who are better than anyone evah so you will watch the show. Every year has to have better contestants or why watch?

Sundance has a really good voice IMO, but seems to lack heart. It will be interesting to how he fares, but he doesn’t excite.

The Castro guy might be interesting to watch, just to see him get made over!

  248. Griz, thanks for the Kimmel link – gotta go now but will watch that when I return.

I wish it WOULD be – and NO RUNNERS UP! Especially not Season 5. :)

  250. BTW, anyone who missed the CUTE CUTE Kimmel bit last night with Taylor here you go!

Griz, thanks, that was adorable. I thought George Lopez was cute too. Did you notice that when Taylor was singing with them, you could actually tell that he was the only one in tune? Sigh….he still wasn’t sweating.

  251. Isn’t Taylor is Richmond VA on April 20? My guess is a special guest performance by a certain Mr. Yamin.

  252. So I see J is going to use legal payola to get Taylor played on the radio, I’m not surprised- they usually do have to resort to that- especially with non-radio friendly songs.

As for Kat’s interview I understood it perfectly, I think it was one of her better ones, actually. Of course, there is some who purposefully choose to look past the really good things she had to say in order to spin the interview negative that is certainly their choice and I’m not at all surprised.

Kat sits quite comfortably inside the 50’s now on Pop radio-#1 on the taking off charts. And Rachael Ray has been added to her list of appearances.

It’s going to be awesome over the next few weeks.

And as for my double standards comments- while it might be “old” and “tiresome” to many here- it is the absolute truth.

And lastly, OUCH at Taylor’s numbers. He is barely ahead of Bo at this pace- hopefully his single revives him because he isn’t looking good from a strictly numbers perspective.

  253. Two more reviews for Katharine’s CD:

    InTouch
    Katharine’s Hot New Sound!
She won a lot of fans with her stirring rendition of “Over the Rainbow” on American Idol, but take one listen to season five runner-up Katharine McPhee’s self-titled debut album–and one look at the CD jacket’s sexy photos– and you’ll say, “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore, Toto!” The first single, “Over It” sounds like she’s gone from singing for Simon to auditioning for the Pussycat Dolls. Girls’ anthem “Open Toes” is even steamier, but it’s the ballads (like the tender “Home” and “Each Other” that best bring out the voice the country fell in love with. Mariah, you have some competition!

    Us Weekly
    Katharine McPhee
    Katharine McPhee (RCA)
    3 out of 4 stars
Looks like American Idol viewers were right when they labeled season five runner-up Katharine McPhee a diva–not that she acts like one, but because she can sing like the best of ’em, as her major label debut proves. She channels her inner Christina on epic, dramatic ballads like “Ordinary World,” emotes Mariah on sexy, radio-ready tracks like “Everywhere I Go,” and still manages to belt like Beyonce (“Love Story”) and croon sweetly like Janet (“Over It”). (Alas, her signature ballad, “Over the Rainbow,” is not included.) In short, she’s the total package. Is it too late for a recount?

BTW, US Weekly gave Norah Jones 2 out of 4 stars.

    :clap_tb:

  254. And lastly, OUCH at Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s numbers. He is barely ahead of Bo at this pace- hopefully his single revives him because he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t looking good from a strictly numbers perspective.

How so? Nearly 600,000 in 5 weeks. What’s not looking good?

  255. Hey Griz, can me kicking Mettaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a$$ be the opening act?

Griz, just make sure the intermission between smackdowns is long enough for me to have time to step over JJ’s defeated a$$, put my new shoes on, and get to my VIP seat in time for the Tay/Simon steel cage match.

  256. How so? Nearly 600,000 in 5 weeks. Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not looking good?

The numbers Nevada posted earlier pretty much tells the tale. He is behind just about everyone except Bo Bice. Well anyone who had significant sales to begin with anyway.

  257. because he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t looking good from a strictly numbers perspective.

But DAMN he’s looking good from every other perspective!

  258. “So I see J is going to use legal payola to get Taylor played on the radio, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not surprised- they usually do have to resort to that- especially with non-radio friendly songs.”

I find your use of the word “resort” so interesting xo….at least Taylor hasn’t resorted to the crotch shot cd and magazine pictures to sell his cd like Kat has had to. I also can only imagine what “payola” her team is shelling out so that she is played on the radio stations.

We’ll talk numbers in a few weeks….that runner-up status will be extremely tough to live up to for Ms. McPhee.

  259. I’m not sure which is worse…to “ouch” at Taylor’s numbers or to “ouch” at Kat’s singing. Hmmmmmm

  260. xoxoyc “BTW, US Weekly gave Norah Jones 2 out of 4 stars.”

Sorry xo — Anyone who gives Norah Jones a 2 out of 4 is either 90% deaf or they’re only interested in album covers !

  261. Griz, just make sure the intermission between smackdowns is long enough for me to have time to step over JJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s defeated a$$, put my new shoes on, and get to my VIP seat in time for the Tay/Simon steel cage match.

The prize for the opening match is to be tag team partners with Taylor. The loser gets Simon. Taylor and I have already planned where we are going for a beer after we take down you Simon and his man tits.

  262. The numbers Nevada posted earlier pretty much tells the tale. He is behind just about everyone except Bo Bice. Well anyone who had significant sales to begin with anyway.

If you want to compare, let’s bring in EVERYONE on the Billboard Charts….

… look at it this way, Taylor did better than 75% of people who charted this week. Dunno, I think that’s pretty good!

  263. Taylor Hicks on Jimmy Kimmel 1-24-07 — Jonathan & Kenneth

    O-M-G

    Im fucking CRYIN’ here. Bwahahahahahahaha!

And in between sobs, Im hyperventillatin’ over how g-d gorgeous Taylor looks. Holy shit.

  264. But DAMN heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s looking good from every other perspective!

Oh, I will have to agree with you on that one.

  265. But DAMN heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s looking good from every other perspective!

  268. As for Katà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interview I understood it perfectly, I think it was one of her better ones, actually.

XO: *** freakin’ contradicted herself in nearly every single one of the answers she gave. I am amused that you not only “understood,” and apparently accepted, all the contradictory statements, but that you contend that this interviewà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ with the vapidness, shallowness, inconsistency, and plain stupid answersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ was “one of her better interviews.”

    She channels her inner Christina on epic, dramatic ballads like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ordinary World,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ emotes Mariah on sexy, radio-ready tracks like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Everywhere I Go,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and still manages to belt like Beyonce (à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Love Storyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ) and croon sweetly like Janet (à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Over Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ).

You are kidding me right…compared to Christina, Mariah, Beyonce and Janet Jackson????

  282. thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s more to success than sales numbers and charts – never forget that.

THAT will be the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“TeamKatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ response when her numbers come out!!

    True…Unless the #’s fair well…then Plan C will kick in……

  283. I know I probably sound like Debs on this, but the picture Griz posted of Taylor playing with Willie Nelson. Did you notice how Willie is looking over at Taylor and smiling? Very cool.

I didn’t even notice anyone else was IN the picture – Gah! :jittery_tb:

Hey SMB – I already posted the Chris blog. Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the matter with you – donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t you read before you post? LOL

Did you read the news release re: the Daughtry CD? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not posting it here, but if you havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read it, go to Daughtry Official. Some interesting information.

    ——————————-

CARLA! Forgive me :glurps_tb: I typed this while at work and I must have just missed your post with my hurried skimming. Just was so excited to read this I was just combobulated! (geez, I’m starting to sound like a certain President!).

Isn’t Chris great though!! I love his posts. Can you believe he apologized that so many of us are missing out on tickets? How considerate is that? I’m glad they’re touring again in the fall but I’m estactic that I have my ticket for Neumo’s in Seattle, cuz I want that more “intimate” setting.

Hats off to you for being so good to post this pronto over here!

  285. at least Taylor hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t resorted to the crotch shot cd and magazine pictures to sell his cd like Kat has had to.

I would buy 1000 CD’s for that picture! Just sayin’

  286. Did you read the news release re: the Daughtry CD? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not posting it here, but if you havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read it, go to Daughtry Official. Some interesting information.

Oh, yeah, Carla, I did get that blog e-mailed to me from DO. I love it that they send it out to the members. What an incredible news release. Can it get any better?

  287. Hi JJ. My neighbors are hanging in there. They are keeping me busy and thats fine with me. Gives me less tome to cry in my pity pot.

And for the REST of you…

Dont think I aint keepin’ track of who greets me when I walk into the room and who doesnt.

Sits my bunny ass on the chair
Puts my bunny feet up on the desk
Takes out my bunny pad and pen

    and takes fucking NAMES.

  288. Us Weekly and InTouch review albums all the time. If either one of those magazines had given Taylor a glowing review (i don’t know if they did or not), everyone would be saying how great they were…

it just seems a little hypocritical to me, quite frankly. I’m sure Kat will get some not-so-nice reviews too. It’s virtually impossible to come across and album that is universally praised.

but quite frankly, i think it’s a little ridiculous to tear down an entire publication if it says something positive about Kat, or ANYONE for that matter.

  289. at least Taylor hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t resorted to the crotch shot cd and magazine pictures to sell his cd like Kat has had to.

    I would buy 1000 CDà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s for that picture! Just sayinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢

This is what Taylor’s album SHOULD have looked like – he would have sold over 8 million by now – LOL!

    http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l234/BarbieB_01/taylor/Picture092.jpg

  290. I am probaly late on this but I read kat left her dog in da car while eating at restaurant for 2 hours…..pics were posted too…now besides a couple of her AI performances…that was very cruel.

  291. I just went over to US Weekly. It’s a cheesy People knock off – ad: Gossip Monger? Click here! gah.

From the beginning they thought Katharine could do no wrong. Completely biased review.

HI DINGO! where have you been?

  292. xoxoxyc – thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s more to success than sales numbers and charts – never forget that.

Of course there is- but not in the record labels eyes.

  293. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure Kat will get some not-so-nice reviews too. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s virtually impossible to come across and album that is universally praised.

I think kat’s cd will be the 1st…..and she so deserves it…if not for her humility alone…

  294. Of course there is- but not in the record labels eyes.

XO, say your prayers! Throw in a novena or 12. I think she may need them, biased reviews and all!

  295. Waves at carolina and crosses her off my bunny stew list.

  296. Dont think I aint keepinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ track of who greets me when I walk into the room and who doesnt.

    HI DINGO!!!!!

I miss you oh HOT one. :tongue3_tb:

Of course there is- but not in the record labels eyes.

    You don’t think J Records likes Taylor’s #’s? Gold in 2 weeks?

Katharine has a mighty big mountain to climb on Jan. 30 – she’ll be lucky to sell 50,000

  298. Us Weekly is a pretty big publication…it’s not like it’s a group of kat fans running the magazine…i don’t think they have a “katharine can do no wrong” attitude. The magazine’s staff happens to like to write about her… but there are many celebrities they write about and then trash in reviews of their movies/music, etc.

Disagreeing with a review is one thing. People do it ALL the time. But it’s absolutely ridiculous to belittle an entire publication because it publishes a positive reivew of a former American Idol contestant you may despise. It just seems juvenile to me.

  299. Since when is 600,000 units sold in 5 weeksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and being certified platinum, considered not looking good?

Since he hasn’t yet sold 600,000 in 6 weeks.

  300. Since when is 600,000 units sold in 5 weeksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and being certified platinum, considered not looking good?

    Since he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t yet sold 600,000 in 6 weeks.

It’s been 5 weeks, ShabbyChic – next week he should go over 600,000.

You don’t consider those good numbers? Imagine how the other 75% of the people on this weeks Billboard charts feel, since they did worse than Taylor! And there’s a LOT of talent behind Taylor on those charts. What’s your point?

  301. HI DINGO!!!!!

I miss you oh HOT one.

Dingo – Are you black? (inside joke)

  302. Dingo! This place is not the same without you! Now you and those bunny slippers stay put!

  303. You donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t consider those good numbers? Imagine how the other 75% of the people on this weeks Billboard charts feel, since they did worse than Taylor! And thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a LOT of talent behind Taylor on those charts. Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s your point?

And even some carp ahead of him!

    ETA Hi Dingo!

  304. You know, those crotch shots were nice, but it is so hard to get past those biker thighs. You just want to take a bite…

  305. SMB – No problem. Just gotta be careful with duplicate Daughtry posts. LOL

The press release is awesome. RCA is really on the ball.

I have tickets for the Abilene show. I had tickets for the Tulsa show but my son BEGGED me for them, so I let him and his girlfriend have those tickets. It looks like Daughtry will be touring in the fall with a bigger name rock group. There are several set to begin tours later this year, so I can only speculate right now. I’m SO excited!

  306. Griz: Taylor’s numbers in the ordinary music world are great. In the Idol world, they suck.

You all can’t tell me that next week when Katharine’s sales come out and she does around 100-150k that you will not call her a flop… even though those are GREAT numbers for this time of the year.

Either all the Idol contestants get held to the same standard or they don’t. It’s not a pick and choose situation…

  307. JJ – I saw your post yesterday suggesting that, at this rate, Tay would be opening for Bo. Get real! Why would Bo want to attach himself to dead weight?

  308. Griz: Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s numbers in the ordinary music world are great. In the Idol world, they suck.

How is that distinction relevant to Taylor’s career? Sales are sales, regardless of what category you want to put those comparisons in. The AI category is just an arbitary box fans of the show like to talk about.

    Thank you coco! LOL!

  309. xo:
And as for my double standards comments- while it might be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“oldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“tiresomeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to many here- it is the absolute truth.

What your statement presented was perhaps your “absolute” opinion, however it was also a blatant logical fallacy not a “fact”.

    False Analogy:
In an analogy, two objects (or events), A and B are shown to be similar. This reasoning fails when it is argued that since A and B are similar, if A has property P, so also B must have property P. The analogy fails when the two objects, A and B, are different in a way which affects whether they both have property P.

In other words, blog posters making unflattering comparisons of contestants/idols on a blog are materially different than idol judges making unflattering comparisons of contestant/idols on national TV, therefore no double standard has been shown and no hilarity ensues.

  310. How is that distinction relevant to Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s career? Sales are sales, regardless of what category you want to put those comparisons in. The AI category is just an arbitary box fans of the show like to talk about.

Well I remember that you said that next week…

  311. Sorry B – from what I read it’s close to the National Enquirer – won’t be winning any literary awards.

Go Read the Kat PcPhee articles, 4 pages of links.

  312. You all canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tell me that next week when Katharineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sales come out and she does around 100-150k that you will not call her a flopà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ even though those are GREAT numbers for this time of the year.

For a Pop Princess getting the kind of reviews she’s getting from illustrious periodicals, I would say those numbers would be disappointing.

Either all the Idol contestants get held to the same standard or they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a pick and choose situationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Katharine WON’T sell 100,000-150,000 copies the first week. Top album this week sold what? 66,000? What makes you so optimistic?

  314. There are several big releases coming out that week so I think she has a chance of at least 100k.

And RCA is shipping 350k and those numbers are in line with that shipment.

  315. Katharine WONà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢T sell 100,000-150,000 copies the first week. Top album this week sold what? 66,000? What makes you so optimistic?

My thought is that TPTB piggy-backed her with Norah Jones’ release because they hope that’s going to get people into record stores…

If the same standard applies, the release date of any Idol album becomes irrelevant.

  317. Mar 21 2007 8:00P
    Ameristar Casino St. Charles, Montana

    Mar 22 2007 8:00P
    Ameristar Casino St. Charles, Montana

Lets keep in mind Gray says some of these dates are tenative.
and corrections need to be made
    as in
That would be St. Charles Missouri
    not Montana.

  318. You know it’s January. The fire acts usually don’t arrive until April which happens to coincide with Top Twelve night.

  319. And RCA is shipping 350k and those numbers are in line with that shipment.

350,000 is a REALLY low shipment for a runner-up on AI (they didn’t even want to ship GOLD!). I suspect they don’t expect much from her, sales wise. I say 60,000 tops the first week.

  320. Wets the tip of my bunny pencil and crosses Metta, Rita and Stryker off the bunny stew list.

Looks up over my bunny bifocals…you all just got lucky.

Looks at my bunny fur…..its hard to tell with the poor lighting in the batcave Metta BUT, I have both Black and White bunny fur.

    Makes mental note to self….

    Dingo…yer NOT a fucking rabbit.
    Dingo…yer NOT a fucking rabbit
    Dingo…yer Not a fucking rabbit.

  321. calisun – they paired her with Norah Jones release because Norah would get people into the stores and they’d buy Kats album ?

    I’m afraid that’s wishful thinking.

Comparison: Barbara Streisand to Minnie Mouse.

  322. Just a note:

Posts that criticize and make gross generalizations about other fans and fan groups won’t ever even see the light of day.

There are posters here who should know better. But I think there are some who figure if a post shows up for even a minute before it gets zapped, it’s worth it.

Please don’t play that game with me.

  323. For the last time, record labels usually expect an album to do around 30-35% of total shipments in the first week. That would put Kat in the 100k range and Norah Jones in the 500-600k range.

And no Griz, it is not a low shipment for a runner up on AI- the only one that shipped more was Clay and maybe Bo- maybe. Nice try though….

Katharine has 14 news stations and 173 new spins this week…

She should have a top 40 hit on her hands!

  324. carolina – that’s right. I suspect fans of Norah Jones have higher musical demands than what Kat has to offer on “Open Shoes” LOL!

Those who buy Norah will not be buying Kat.

  325. griz, I’ve looked through this whole thread and can’t find that Kimmel video.

Could you please hook me up with the link? Thanks!

  326. Looks at my bunny furà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..its hard to tell with the poor lighting in the batcave Metta BUT, I have both Black and White bunny fur.

LMAO! Dingo, this is a running gag I have with Dave, that he only digs black chicks.

  327. Katharine has 14 news stations and 173 new spins this weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

She should have a top 40 hit on her hands!

So you should expect way better than your prediction of 100-150,000 based on 14 new stations and 173 new spins, eh? Anything less than that would be considered, what, a failure?

  328. Hey Dingo, I better not be on that f—ing bunny stew list! Check that list again!! :nono_tb:

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“So I see J is going to use legal payola to get Taylor played on the radio, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not surprised- they usually do have to resort to that- especially with non-radio friendly songs.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I find your use of the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“resortà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ so interesting xoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.at least Taylor hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t resorted to the crotch shot cd and magazine pictures to sell his cd like Kat has had to. I also can only imagine what à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“payolaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ her team is shelling out so that she is played on the radio stations.

Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll talk numbers in a few weeksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.that runner-up status will be extremely tough to live up to for Ms. McPhee.

Dayum, OhSo – you are SO devine! I wonder which one of the idols haven’t “resorted to” payola to get started with radio spins. I mean, everyone says, according to radio, American Idols are just not credible artists.

    xoxoyc à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“BTW, US Weekly gave Norah Jones 2 out of 4 stars.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Sorry xo à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Anyone who gives Norah Jones a 2 out of 4 is either 90% deaf or theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re only interested in album covers !

Anyone who gives Kat 3 out of 4 stars at the same time they give Norah Jones a 2 out of 4 doesn’t have a lot of credibility as a music critic. IMO, of course. :)

  330. Her song hasn’t been impacting long enough to make that big of a difference in her sales. They would have needed to impact radio at least 4-5 weeks in advance and have a video out- they didn’t and they know it.

No matter what she sells she is going to be labeled a failure anyway, so I’m just going to enjoy the music. That is what it is about after all.

I have to respectfully disagree with you here. It really depends who your idol is if you are aware of the comparisons. If you’re a Chris fan, this stands out to you and you share it on the boards. I’m surprised by how many times I’ve seen articles about this; not a lot but more than I was led to believe on this board. Of course, Chris fans are happy to see this and so we are quick to share, for it furthers our believe that Chris had the most talent of this past season. I’ve probably seen 4 or 5 articles in the last couple of months. I’d share them too if you don’t mind going to a Chris fan site. :happy_tb:

I say Taylor has the entire performance package – the singing, the stage presence, the musicianship, the looks, the passion – thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s why he so deservedly won AI and Chris did not, coming in fourth.

    ——————————————-

Hey Griz, I totally understand your sentiments. I would expect nothing less. I totally respect your endorsement of Taylor, you are his fan, as I am a fan of Chris. Both of us have are opinions, influenced by multiple factors. Your description of Taylor having the whole package with the singing, stage presence, musicianship, looks, passion, etc., echos my own for Chris emphatically. To each to his own and neither one of us is incorrect in our assessment for it’s how we feel for these particular artists.

Thanks for the reply, as always! :bye_tb:

  348. Well, see you guys tomorrow. I won’t be joining the chat. So far, I’m for the cute little indian boy and the back up singer with no balls. Lets hope she grows some soon. Maybe someone else will catch my eye today.

Agreed. The season is over. The placing of the people will never ever change regardless of who sells what, who’s the most credible, who has the best voice, who has the most provacative photos, etc.

  350. I see that I have re-entered the aI bubble where thecompetition never cease..

Wow, I see my guy sold another 15,000 this last week. Good for him and he moved up..Way to go Taylor..

  351. Ah Griz, thank you so much for posting the link to the guys on Kimmell. I am laughing through my tears. They were so sweet together, like little children really and everybody singing God Bless America was awesome. That is what I love about America, the damned heart that so many people have.

Ray was so cool, I loved Lopez’s let’s kick Simon’s ass comment and could Taylor have been any nicer, hugs and high fives all around and telling them to ignore Simon?

My husband heard, sorry he didn’t get the number, that a lot of people complained to Idol about the terrible treatment Simon gave these guys and Paula and Randy just as bad laughing behind their backs.

I am proud of Americans when they stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Gosh, I feel like singing God Bless America myself right not.

Oh and the golf cart bit was absolutely hilarious. Hats of to Jimmy Kimmell for giving those 2 the time of their lives.

    Peace, Shar.

    Bravo. :clap_tb:

I happen to agree with Griz on this point, but you might have already known that.

However, you speak the truth, oh noble one.

No problem SMB – just wanna represent the other side of things – the reality of the situation ;)

  354. Interesting list from Ken on Idol Chatter – here is the top 5:

According to WSJ.com, the online site for the Wall Street Journal, Carrie is the most-mentioned Idol in the major media.

    1. Carrie: 3,420

    2. Taylor: 3,144

    3. Kelly: 2,763

    4. Katharine: 1,827

    5. Clay: 1,467

Can’t be right – *** is the HUGE one, the stah, the one that everyone can’t get enough of, the one who’s gonna take over the music world in 2007.

  357. Dingo, I don’t know if you are still around, but I have to say to you:

Ain’t No Sunshine When Your’e Gone, you are missed bigtime. I hope all is well and somebody posted a video for you yesterday of a lady getting to meet Taylor and ask him questions on Gofish.

Dang, she got a big old hug from him,I am sooo jealous.

Take care Lady and bring your wit back here soon. These fan wars are getting sooo old and it seems you can put things back on track from all the venom.

Oh no, I pale in comparison to your great wit. Hey, maybe we’re both funny as hell! :thumbup_tb:

  359. sweet t………..the link didn’t open for me, but oh no, if my son finds me watching MTV now, he will be calling his siblings for sure. :unsure_tb: :grin1_ee:
I can’t imagine what the video will be like but I know alot of people have been putting their imaginations to work. LOL

  360. Us Weekly is a pretty big publicationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not like ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a group of kat fans running the magazineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think they have a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“katharine can do no wrongà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ attitude. The magazineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s staff happens to like to write about herà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ but there are many celebrities they write about and then trash in reviews of their movies/music, etc.

Disagreeing with a review is one thing. People do it ALL the time. But ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s absolutely ridiculous to belittle an entire publication because it publishes a positive reivew of a former American Idol contestant you may despise. It just seems juvenile to me.

    Bwahahahahaah!

It’s US WEEKLY and IN TOUCH, for Pete’s sake! It’s not as if people are trashing Rolling Stone or Vibe because they wrote up a good or bad review. These are nothing more than tabloids with glossy pages, trading in rumors, gossip, and fawning over outward beauty. No, I’m sorry, I don’t take them seriously.

  361. griz and carolina, thanks for the link! I loved him in that sweater…way better than those shirts he used to wear pre-AI!

    He was great!!

  362. Since I am not watching AI until the top 24, I have spent my time watching Taylor videos from last season(thanks Katja once again.)

I just watched when Taylor made the top 24 and played the harmonica. Back in the contestant’s room it showed him hugging Kellie. Aw, they look so cute together and would make an adorable couple.

I can honestly say, I have not missed watching the AI slaughterhouse at all, but am looking forwar to the top 24 when it does become more about the music and less about Simon’s idiocy.

  363. Well, we saw the first outright Elliott wannabe. He even had the color-scheme down.

I thought he was OK. He reminded me of Daniel Bedingfield.

  364. I can honestly say, I have not missed watching the AI slaughterhouse at all, but am looking forwar to the top 24 when it does become more about the music and less about Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s idiocy.

    YOU HAVEN’T MISSED A THING!!!

  365. Kat: Bwahahahahaah!

    Bwahahahahaah!Can I join you?! :)

I went to Idolicious, Kat, and read your review and thought it was right on the money – all the technical training in the world can not make up for the tone of one’s voice, and she may know all kinds of vocal tricks and trills, but her voice makes my ears hurt – like fingernails on a chalkboard. It is just flat out tinny, and too shrill when she’s reaching for the high notes.

  366. Wow, was just watching FOX news here in Tulsa. Melinda Doolittle (the background vocalist) is from Tulsa and graduated from Union High School! They did a lil piece on her just now on the news! I really like this girl’s voice.

Also, Phil Stacey (the guy whose wife just had a baby) is from Shawnee Oklahoma but stationed in Florida.

    Two Oklahomans! Woohoo!

You know I think will be the most successful now, short term, but Taylor HIcks will be the one who will have the most long lasting career of all AI 5 finalists. He is the most unque, and he has the whole package.
    Voice, Performance and Looks!
When asked about AI 5 John Mayer once said: I think Taylor will be the one who will be making records for a long long time.

    I happen to agree. JMHO.

I happen to agree with John.

I agree, I think Taylor will be making music for a very long time. But this is only because I think he’s the only one who just truly wants to make music forever. I don’t think he’ll be very successfull in the long run, but I do think he will continute to try and put stuff out consistently. Can’t wait till he drops with RCA and signs on to a good indie label where he’ll put out moderately successful stuff but more artistically in line with his personal creative vision. I hope Taylor fans are in it for the music and I think most of them are. But a lot of fans are still under the delusion that this guy is going to make a huge impact on music.

  369. AFan………just as no one, including Chris D himself, would have thought Chris would have been so successful in such a short time, I think it is premature to say whether or not Taylor could make a huge impact on music in the future in some way. These guys have only been in the public eye for a year. Too early for any predictions of the future for anyone.

    ————————————–

Let me see if I have this correct, AFan. By your assumption, Chris just wants to “make music” in the short run, possibly looking forward to another job as an automotive repair advisor in the future? This is a man who has been writing since he was 17, formed his own band, and was actively trying to be noticed by a label, hence his demo CD. This, all the while working full time to support his family (all the members of his band had families and had day jobs). Music is Chris’ life. Unlike what has been represented here on this thread today, Chris IS unique. Just because the majority of this site are fans of a certain musician and favor his music and make blanket statements about the durability and “uniqueness” of an artist does not make it so. Please keep in mind that these are opinions, as is yours. I actually believe not only will Chris be the most successful of the AI5 contestants, but he will be a household name for years to come. Having said that, Taylor too will have durability but will, most likely, be more of an eclectic performer with a small but loyal fanbase.

  371. I say Taylor has the entire performance package – the singing, the stage presence, the musicianship, the looks, the passion –

An entire performance package similar to the ape at Chuckie Cheese. Jus’ snarkin’! :lol_tb:

  372. This would be a really cool thing for Taylor to be at on 4/20:
    Fri 04/20/07
    Suwannee River Jam 2007
Tickets: 3 Day Pass: $85.00 Advance – $95.00 At The Gate
Venue: Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park
    Address: 3076 95th Dr
City: Live Oak, FL – Phone: (386) 364-1683

  373. “Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s US WEEKLY and IN TOUCH, for Peteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sake! Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not as if people are trashing Rolling Stone or Vibe because they wrote up a good or bad review…..Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sorry, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t take them seriously.”

No matter what reviews are reviews. I have a feeling that if High Times were championing the mellow sounds of Taylor Hicks people would be using that review to validate their opinions on him. Regardless of content both magazines are read by quite a few people and offer regular reviews of music and they both offered positive reviews of the CD so in the long run can be used as blurbs to sell copies.

  374. So this morning I heard Its Not Over and then Before He Cheats on my local radio station the Buzz 105. I’m being inundated by idol. (of course then they play nickelback and that always confuses me,because Daughtry and Nickelback sound exactly the same IMO)

Actually Its Not Over is growing on me. I don’t particularly want to watch Chris sing it, because he always hurts my neck the way he leans backward. I always think he is going to fall.

I am thinking though that the more songs on the radio by idols the more likely all of them will get radio play.

I am expecting Just To Feel That Way to be on my station soon.. Matter of fact it fits right in with other songs I heard on the same station.

I have a feeling one of these days a radio station can have Idol Hours where they just play Idol singles for hours on end. LOL

Actually it would be cool if Chris, Taylor, Kat, Carrie,Fantasia, and the two Kellys all have singles playing at the same time. Am I missing anyone — maybe Bucky,Josh Gracin. Mario Vasquez — anyone else?

  375. Reviews are reviews I have a feeling that if High Times was champion the mellow sounds of Taylor Hicks people would be using that to validate their thoughts on him. Both magazines regardless of content are read by quite a few people and they both liked the CD so this can be used as blurbs to sell copies.

The fact that people read the Weekly World News doesn’t make it true. Those magazines are tabloids. They’re entertaining, sure, and when I worked the pharmacy on a slow Sunday at Walgreens back in my college days, I sure read a whole lot of them from cover to cover. But I took them for what they were–excuses to publish puff pieces salivating over pretty celebrities. Nothing more.

And if High Times praised Taylor’s CD, I sure as hell wouldn’t link to their review.

  376. I would be pretty incredulous if Scientific American or Discover magazine did a review too. :tongue1_tb:

  377. Hi Dog Doc………I am sure the Idol radio shows are coming soon!!!! Actually I guess for Idol fans it would be perfect. They have five years of Idols behind them now. With albums, they could easily fill part of a day.

  378. ShabbyChicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Simon is that you?

ShabbyChic is not faded jeans and a tight black tee.

  379. BTW, US Weekly gave Norah Jones 2 out of 4 stars.

Which is exactly why Katharine didn’t put out a Norah Jones type of album. I mean, that Norah, she’s soooooo uncool…she doesn’t go to red carpet parties or spread her legs on album covers, or push her boobs up so it looks like they’re going to explode! I mean, seriously. I can understand that Kat fans and non-fans can respectably disagree on a lot of things, but the rush to paint In Touch and Us Weekly as anything more than tabloids–nay, thoughtful, critical, legitimate publications–is laughable.

    And with that…it’s bedtime :-)

  380. Funny story. This vet who runs a Equine clinic in Texas had to do colic surgery on one of Toby Keith”s horses. He told his daughters at home about the surgery and his 8 year old daughter said she assumed that one of Toby’s horses would end up in the vet’s surgery because he gives his horses beer to drink. They then had to explain to her that was just a song — Toby does not actually give his horses beer to drink. She didn’t believe her dad. It was in the song and the horse colicked — so there!

THis was in one of my Vet Journals. By the way Toby lives about 5 miles away from me in Norman OK. He has a beautiful ranch. No I am not his vet.

I would be pretty incredulous if Scientific American or Discover magazine did a review too.

Well, if she didn’t have that cover on her cd, this would be a good magazine to review ***’s album.

    http://www.highlights.com/

  382. “The fact that people read the Weekly World News doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make it true.
    Those magazines are tabloids.”

And if you had read my statement you would have known that I do agree somewhat with what you said however RCA wanted them to review her CD so they sent them a copy and they filed a favorable review doesn’t necessarily theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re not fit to review a music CD just that they liked it and their reviews can be used for promotion.

  383. ShabbyChic……… sorry, it was the snark that threw me :rolleyes_ee:

Dog Doc………are the ice storms over in OK?

  384. BTW, loved the Toby Keith/horse story – cute kid. Hope the horse got okay. We lost one to colic one time – it was heartbreaking. He rolled, twisted an intestine before the vet got here. We took turns walking him all night, but it was too late. He had to put him down. :(

  385. So I finally heard the full length Katharine McPhee CD and I try not to base a review on 30second clips or on the first listen (heck Porgy and Bess was considered a flop with forgettable music the first time around.)

Is it my favorite American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first release no but I think that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a catchy current sounding disc with some attractive songs on it (I believe to be a fan of a particular Idol who have to be prepared to be in the long haul no matter what.)

I think Home, Ordinary World, and Better Off Alone are good songs that are given passionate deliveries by Katharine and played to her breathy strengths (hell Olivia Newton John made a career out of singing in breath.) I would love to see Ordinary World performed simply one day and think that it could be a hit separate from the disc. As for the other songs some are interesting some are Top 40 songs and some have the proverbial hook driven type of music that is very popular that someone like Katharine who so many people were worried wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t appeal to the mass public needed.

  386. Off to bed — I’ve got a cold and probably should have skipped AI tonight and gone straight to bed. G’night!

  387. “carolina – thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s right. I suspect fans of Norah Jones have higher musical demands than what Kat has to offer on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Open Shoesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ LOL!

Those who buy Norah will not be buying Kat.”

Actually that I would agree with I’m a Kat fan and I think Norah Jones is very overrated and my musical tastes run everywhere from Beth Nielsen Champman, Joni Mitchell, Heart, Harold Arlen, the music of Stephen Sondhiem, classical, rock, and many more so go figure.

  388. Niece and her boyfriend were looking at some of ***’s infamous chair photos on the computer tonight . After they looked at them she asked him if he thought *** was pretty and he said ” I never noticed her face !” Somehow I don’t think that the males buying this cd are buying it for her music. :doh_tb:

  389. Lisa – Phil Stacey is from Shawnee, OK? Holy shit, I currently live in Shawnee. I’ve been so out of touch with everything around here lately. I must watch Tivo since I haven’t seen tonight’s show yet. Thanks for the info.!

  390. Carla your welcome! :smile_wp: FOX23 ran it earlier tonight.

Here is a link to a video I believe is the same story they ran on Melinda (can’t tell since I am on dialup, lol). They talked about Phil at the end of the story on tv. Phil is a US Navy, Petty Officer 3rd Class, and is stationed right now in Florida.
