Broadway is typically dark on Monday nights, except on June 8, when the Minskoff Theater was at capacity for the Bombshell charity concert, to benefit the Actors Fund.
Bombshell is the fictional Broadway show that was at the center of the ill-fated NBC musical drama, Smash, starring Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty. The pilot got rave reviews, but unfortunately, due to backstage chaos, the writing fell apart. By season 2, even a new showrunner couldn’t save it. The few remaining viewers it had were more or less hate watching the series.
But while the storytelling may have been problematic, the songs, written by by Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are glorious. After two years off the air, Smash has become somewhat of a cult classic.
Joining Katharine and Megan on stage Monday night, were a slew of Smash stars, including Christian Borle, Jeremy Jordan and Debra Messing.
The concert sold out quickly during the kickstarter pre-sale, but Broadway.com has put together a video of some of the best moments.
Included are bits from “Big Finish,” “I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl,” “Don’t Say Yes Until I Finish Talking,” “On Lexington and 52nd Street,” “Cut, Print…Moving On,” “(Let’s Start) Tomorrow Tonight,” “The Right Regrets,” “Hang the Moon” and “Let Me Be Your Star.”
Featuring: Christian Borle, Jaime Cepero, Will Chase, Ann Harada, Megan Hilty, Brian d’Arcy James, Jeremy Jordan, Donna McKechnie, Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, Leslie Odom, Jr., Ripley Sobo and Wesley Taylor.
