The Voice season 21 runner-up Wendy Moten conducted an hour-long live chat with fans on Sunday (Jan 9). She provided a health update, and also invited a few surprise The Voice guests to join her in chat.
“I’m on to full recovery”
“I had surgery on December 17 and started physical therapy 5 days later,” Wendy told fans. “I’m thankful. I go three days a week. And I’m on to full recovery.” This, after the Team Blake Shelton singer fell hard on stage after a group performance. Afterward, she went to the hospital with broken bones. The surgery repaired a shattered elbow.
While she recovers, the singer plans to work on increasing her social media numbers. Her goal is to reach 100K on Instagram. She plans to hold a contest, where she’ll give away signed records. She jokes it will be the first time she’ll be able to sign anything, as her right arm is in a sling right now.
Wendy is ready to collaborate with Blake Shelton but “He’s so busy”
And as far as collaborating with Blake Shelton. They haven’t planned anything yet. “I would love to do some stuff with Blake, whenever he’s ready. He’s so busy.” Wendy explained.
But don’t expect Wendy to cover coach Ariana Grande’s song “Look Up” from the Netflix film, Don’t Look Up. Wendy insists she could never reach the whistle notes that Ariana hits with such ease.
The singer is plotting an album of original material, but she needs her fans help.
Wendy asked fans to DM her suggestions about what her next project should sound like. “I like to be all over the place,” she said, name checking iconic singer Linda Ronstadt as a singer she’d like to emulate. The 7o’s and 80’s pop star sang across a wide range of genres. “And that’s who I am. I want to sing it all.” But not at one time! She plans to put out a call to songwriters to find original material to record.
“The rest of my life is about Wendy Moten shows for all kinds of people,” Wendy said, adding that she wants to sing classic songs.
“My idea is to get a show here in Nashville, a classic show like a Dionne Warwick, a Barbra Streisand, but it would be Wendy Moten and I go sing classic soul and new songs,” Wendy explained further, “I’ll slip in some Adele and Beyonce. A lot of stuff! I just love singing great songs.”
Manny Keith and Paris Winningham joined Wendy in chat
Later in the hour, Battles partner Manny Keith dropped by to say Hi. Just coming out of a church performance, Manny said “I will stop anything I’m doing any day of the week for you.” He gushed that their duet was one of the coolest moments of his The Voice experience. “I am so honored and so blessed that our paths crossed,” he said.
Third place finisher and fellow Team Blake member Paris Winfield also dropped by to chat. He spent the holiday with his parents for the first time in a few years. Paris has an EP coming out. It will contain two originals, and, by fan request, his cover of Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey.”
Although COVID has forced her to cancel gigs, Wendy will be in Memphis on April 2 & 3 at the Halloran Centre. The April 2 show is sold out, however, tickets for April 3 go on sale on Tuesday.
