Tonight, Team Tom Jones perform for VOTES. Viewers choose two singers and Tom, chooses the third.
What is that crazy jeans jacket that Jennifer is wearing? It’s like an 80’s nightmare. Heh.
Nadine McGhee – Secret Love Song by Little Mix – Call center operator got one turn–from Tom Jones. Good thing she’s a big fan. During rehearsal, Tom and Nadine sang “Green Green Grass of Home” together. Her supportive dad is in the early stages of dementia. She gets off to a slow start, and the song feels too big for her. She’s really stretching her upper range. Tom felt she did a wonderful job putting the emotion in the song. Gavin thought she did her dad proud. Will said the performance was not only note perfect, but emotional. Jennifer agrees. She felt every moment of the song.
Craig Ward – 31 – Hold on Tight by Greg Holden – Tom calls him a “traditional” singer and a family man. Craig isn’t sure about the song choice, but Tom convinces him. Actually, it turns out to be a good choice for Craig. This is the dude who co-wrote Phillip Phillips “Home” and it has that militaristic feel. “You sang that like you was grateful boy!” says Jennifer. “Craig you just put the fire on the ceiling,” said Will. “You just owned it,” said Gavin. Tom believes Scotland is proud of Craig.
Victoria Kerley – 16 – Find Me by Sigma ft. Birdy – Tom stole Victoria from Will. Ohhh. The high parts of this song are giving Victoria trouble. She’s real wobbly. Her hair is pretty, though. Will asked if she’s nervous. “It got to me a little bit. Birdy’s a big inspiration to me.” she says. Gavin felt her confidence was “correct.” Whatever that means. Tom calls her “competent” and the performance “natural and lovely.”
Capital B – One Day I’ll Fly Away – Female university students are a Gospel duo. They have not dropped out of school because of the competition. I’m not sure about this song choice. It’s so old fashioned. “That was so beautiful,” says Jennifer. Tom is proud of the girls this evening. “The blend is beautiful,” says Tom. “really tight.” Will calls it “soothing” and adds, “I fly a lot.” OK then.
Dannii Bonds – 20 – False Alarm by Motoma & Becky Hill – Tom had turned for Dannii at the very last second. Ew. She’s all screechy in rehearsal. She’s nervous. “You’ve got to be confident,” says Tom. I remember her being pitchy during blinds. She still is. Vocally, she’s all over the place. Will liked the song choice, but…”there were some parts where I could tell your nerves,” he said. Gavin thinks there’s a great singer inside. “I think you did great. Tom could tell she was nervous. “That’s a thing that plagues us all.” Well, she wasn’t good.
Into the Ark – Hold on We’re Going Home by Drake – Tom suggests that the duo keep their eyes open. Cute boys, sing decently. They should go pretty far. Jennifer loves their dance moves. “Don’t ever change that…I’m a big fan.” Tom thinks they are in a unique position, “There’s nobody like you on this show…you bring a rock element to the show.” He compares them to the Stereophonics. Look at you Tom! Apparently, they are songwriters too. “I would buy your music,” says Will. “True Fire.” They’re definitely going to be voted through.
Now it’s time to vote. The info goes up. UK viewers will only have through the break to vote.
Next Jennifer Hudson performs her NEW single “Remember Me,” a big, soaring pop ballad.
Results! Team Tom take the stage. First through to the quarterfinal is…Craig Ward! Second through to the quarterfinal is…Into The Ark. Tom chooses the third singer and it is…
Into the Ark
Nadine McGhee – Chosen by Tom
Half the quarterfinal acts are in place. One ONE is female. Interestingly, Team Jhud is all male. Early on, I expected her team to be filled with fellow female divas. Not to be. We’ll see if Team Gavin and Team Will manage to even up the gender split a bit.
