The Voice – Semi-final Results – Recap

I’ll Be live-blogging The Voice results right here!

Your Final Four: Vicci Martinez (Team Cee Lo), Javier Colon (Team Adam), Dia Frampton (Team Blake), Beverly McClellan (Team Christina)

The finalists will sing original songs next week! Plus, they duet with their respective team coaches.

It’s time for a recap! Half the semi-finalists will be sent home tonight.

The winners tonight will probably be Beverly, Javier, Vicci and Dia, because they sold the most iTunes. eta: And of course…they are the contestants who advanced tonight. SUPRISE!

Just a couple of observations:

  • The results are as predictable as they could possibly be.  The iTunes sales have predicted America’s pick every single week. But, it doesn’t really matter because The Voice is all about the celebrity coaches and not so much about the contestants.
  • Next week the final four will sing with their coaches.  Could you imagine that happening on Idol or X Factor? Hm. I’m not sure how I’m going to feel about this show when it goes to a longer format this winter.  The all-judges-all-the-time format could get really tedious.
  • Next week is going to be a showdown between Javier and Dia, with Javier probably winning.  Beverly and Vicci are just along for the ride. Beverly, in particular, would not have survived if she had competed against all 8 contestants.  Her iTunes ranking was 6th place.
  • On one hand, I was annoyed by the judges’ wishy washy scores (well except for Adam, but he barely counts. His pity votes for Javier had nothing to do with his talent). On the other hand, chickening out meant the choice was left in America’s hands–where it really belonged in the first place.

The 8 semi-finalists take the stage to sing a group number–George Michael’s “Faith” – Pyro! That set with the gigantic fist is so tacky tacky tacky.

Wow, the filler on this show is going to be super unbearable. Here we are in the “media room”. Zzzzz.  In response to a twitter questions, Beverly says she’s going to love Frenchie for life no matter what happens tonight.

Two scores, one from America, one from the contestant’s coaches are combined to come up with a final score

Team Cee Lo is first. Who will advance to the finals, Nakia or Vicci Martinez?

Nakia tells his partner that he loves him. Aw. That’s sweet. Vicci feels like her Dad is here with her, even though he’s passed on. She tells her mom she loves her.

Cee Lo mentions Obama’s announcement–that delayed TV tonight by 15 minutes–that the troops  would be coming home. Then he reads a poem.  Cee Lo  is such a kook.  Quoting Gil Scot Heron in a poem about a cheesy reality show? Really? Both of his contestants gave stellar performances. But, he gave Nakia 51% of his votes because he could not hear Vicci over the drumming. But after listening to Vicci’s performance,   he thinks his score should have been 50/50. A little bit of saving butt right there?

Vicci Martinez is moving on to the finals!

Cee Lo performs his single, ” Bright Lights Bigger City”. OMG the hair. Erm wig. He looks like an urban version of Moe. Big glasses and a white suit compliment the “look”. Having said that. I love this song. Really love it.

“So many tears back here in the social media room…, ” tweets media chick, Alison.

Team Adam is next!

The group hung out with Travie McCoy and the Gym Class Heroes. I guess Levine has heard of them. Who will go home tonight? Casey Weston or Javier Colon? GOSH IT’S A NAIL BITER! /not. Casey, knowing she’s dead girl walking, thanks Adam for allowing her to be on his team. Adam’s scores–he gave 65 to Javier and 35 to Casey. Yeesh. Adam said he did it because Casey is only 18. He had to make sure that Javier advanced, because basically, he needs it more. Adam promises Casey she’ll have an amazing career. What’s this? Charity Voice?  LAME.

Javier Colon is advancing to the finals!

Team Blake is next

Dia and Xenia flew to Cincinnati and sang “Honey Bee” on stage with Blake. They got to meet Brad Paisley Woo hoo. Who will advance to the finals? Xenia or Dia Frampton? Xenia says it feels incredible to be onstage and is grateful for the opportunity. Blake’s amazing, says Dia. So is Xenia. She begins to cry. Blake’s scores: 50/50 He wimped out! Blake doesn’t feel like he can win or lose with either of the girls. He loves them both. “You can’t put a score on that, ” says Blake. Jeez Blake. This is singing contest. What’s with the “ya’ll are a super-special snowflake” crap?

Moving on to the finals: Dia Frampton

Team Christina is next

Let’s cut to the chase. We’re running out of time! Beverly loves Frenchie. With all her heart. For real! Frenchie says she feels so blessed. All she ever wanted was a chance to be judged on her talent. Christina is torn over the two. Christina feels the love in the room! We’ve believed in our teams from day 1! I really care about you guys! There are no winners or losers today! We’ve all experienced such a special journey together! Christina’s scores: 50/50 More wimpage! Christina doesn’t think you can compare two very different singers to each other. She thinks America should have the opportunity to decide. Well, I agree with her there.

Moving on to the finals is Beverly McClellan
