The Voice rose from last week’s 1.8 rating to 1.9 in the 18-49 demo. The real story, however is the show that is scheduled after The Voice, initially to help boost the fledgling drama’s numbers. This is Us rises from 2.4 last week to a 2.7 this week. It’s far outpacing The Voice and helping NBC to earn a decisive Tuesday night win.
The situation reminds me a little of when new FOX drama Empire was scheduled after American Idol two years ago. It soon became clear the soapy drama didn’t need Idol’s lead-in as the ratings rose week to week during that first season.
