The Voice 24 Playoffs: Mara Justine Sings Florence + The Machine’s “You’ve Got the Love” for Team Niall and the Live Shows
The Voice season 24 Playoffs start on Tuesday night (Nov 21) with Team Niall Horan. In a preview from the hour-long episode, Mara Justine sings Florence + The Machine’s “You’ve Got the Love” for a chance to compete on the live shows.
The coaches left last week’s Knockouts with five team members. But there is a twist. Each coach will pick an eliminated Knockout artist from any team to round out the competition, resulting in a Top 24. On the first episode, all six members of Niall’s team will perform for him. At the end, he will choose three artists to move on to the next round.
Mara, who honed her competition skills on both America’s Got Talent and American Idol, comes out of the gate like she’s in it to win it, working the stage and her big vocals like a seasoned pro. The singer started her The Voice journey on Team John Legend after a four-chair turn. John nabbed her after asking the singer to duet with him on “All of Me.” But in the three-way Knockouts, John let her go, which allowed Niall to scoop her right up.
“Tapping into that falsetto finesse was a real revelation,” John states after Mara’s dynamic performance. “Because I think people saw a different side of your voice, and it gave you that much more character.” He calls it her best moment so far on the show, but then jokes, “other than singing a duet with me at the beginning!”
“I think you are an amazing star already”
Reba McEntire calls the performance “an emotional roller coaster of excitement. Gwen Stefani adds, “What I love most about you is you’re so you. I think you are an amazing star already.” She calls it a “no-brainer” to send Mara to the Lives.
Niall describes how he suggested that Mara make the verses and the outro of the song really small and tender. “You did it unbelievably well today,” Niall says, adding, “I don’t want to say I told you so. But I told you so!”
