The Voice 23 Knockouts: Holly Brand and Rachel Christine Sing for a spot on Team Kelly Clarkson

Holly Brand performs Patsy Cline’s “Blue Moon of Kentucky” and Rachel Christine sings Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” for a spot in the Playoffs on Team Kelly Clarkson. See a preview of Monday’s (April 24) dramatic conclusion of the Knockout round.

Holly kicks off her performance with a lovely a’cappella verse of the country classic, before the song kicks into rollicking gear. She ends on a whistle tone. Holly is not playing. Next it’s Rachel with a 70’s classic. She’s not as flashy as Holly, but her unique deep tone and phrasing carries the performance.

Blake Shelton declares that Knockout rounds “suck.” He compliments Holly’s yodel and “awesome control of it.” He says of Rachel’s performance and ambitious song choice, “You did an awesome job. You sang the crap out of it, and found some notes that were different from the record.”

“You did a great job of coming back on my radar,” Chance the Rapper says to Rachel. Once again, Chance has never heard of a classic CLASSIC 70’s hit. He makes a joke about Rihanna whom he has certainly knows. Holly completely blew Chance away. He admires her ability to stay on pitch while singing a’cappella and calls the whistle note at the end a “crazy cherry on top.”

“Rhiannon is one of my favorite songs of all time,” Niall Horan reveals. “Your ability to change things up is really impressive. You smashed it out of the park. It’s bulletproof.” Niall confesses to being a fan of Holly from day one. “I think we got to see what Holly Brand is about, even down to the outfit and sparkly boots.” He joked about her puffy sleeves, “I would look like Rob Gronkowski if I wore them!” He would choose Holly.

Team Kelly’s toughest choice

“You both picked perfect songs, says coach Kelly. She calls Holly’s ability to belt high notes, “killer.” On the other hand Rachel reminds Kelly of herself. “To come after someone singing whistle notes…and you have to start out so mysterious and all Stevie Nicks.” She’s not sure even the coaches could handle that. “You are just an incredibly gifted singer.”

Kelly calls the choice between the two singers “the toughest one.” Who will she pic? And will the loser be stolen by Team Blake, who is the only coach other than Kelly with a remaining steal? Find out on NBC, Monday April 24 at 8 pm ET/PT.
