Five more contestants join to round out The Voice season 12 Top 48.

Vanessa Ferguson – 31 – Greensboro NC – Don’t Let Me Down by The Chainsmokers – She was born in NYC but raised by her grandmother in the south. Grandma put the singer in piano lessons at age 5. Vanessa is classically trained but is drawn to R&B and hip hop. She’s done the cruise ship thing. When Alicia Keys hit big, EVERYONE wanted her to play her songs. Alicia mouths the words to the song. She and Gwen both hit their buttons. Blake is next. Hm. She’s interesting, but she doesn’t have a great range or tone. She hit a huge, raspy last note that was underpitch. How versatile is she really? In any case, she’s cool looking! I like her hat. She could surprise me. Adam calls himself a “dum dummy” for not turning. “You just don’t have ears!” says Alicia. Blake tries to woo her with “You probably weren’t considering me.” That’s not true, she says. Alicia says “I would like to help bring all of you out.” Vanessa Chooses Team Alicia. Not a surprise.  – Download at iTunes

Each coach has ONE MORE seat to fill on their teams.

Dawson Coyle – 17 – Williamstown NJ – Happiness by NEEDTOBREATHE – He’s a home school kid. Recently, a house fire destroyed his family’s home. His parents tear up talking about it. Their church community rallied around them. FYI: His NBC page mentions that Dawson struggles with Touretts Syndrome. Not mentioned on air. Dawson is cute and wholesome and very earnest–a perfect artist for the Christian contemporary crowd. . His performance is solid, energetic and full of emotion. Blake turns for him at the last minute. His parents are overjoyed! “You’re on team ding dong!” quips Adam. Blake appreciated the way he poured emotion into his performance. “I don’t know that I’ve had anyone quite like him on my  team.”  Team Blake –  Download at iTunes

Blake’s Team is FULL.

Battle Round advisors Celine Dion and John Legend take a minute to pimp the Disney film, Beauty and the Beast. John compares the story to The Voice–something about not judging a book by it’s cover. Or something. Celine sings a new original song for the production. The singer performed the title track for the original animated feature.

Jozy Bernadette – 24 – Grand Forks ND – American Woman by The Guess Who/Lenny Kravitz – Her father is Glen Hanson. He played in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls. She played basketball in high school, but music is her real love. Her parents fully support her music career. She totters around the stage on high heels. The performance is a little stodgy and theatrical. She has a nice tone, but American Woman is an angry song, and I’m just not feeling it here.  Adam and Gwen turn. Adam calls her voice “incredible.” Blake advocates for his gal Gwen. Jozy Chooses Team Gwen “I pick you, No doubt!” she says. Corny.  – Download at iTunes

Gwen’s team is full!

Steven Boris – 32 – Arlington IL – Three Little Birds by Bob Marley – He and his father make craft beers together. Gwen Stefani’s No Doubt album is the first he ever bought. It’s hard to get noticed in a small town! He’s decent. I hear joy in his voice. Maybe a little too laid backed, or Adam and Alicia are looking for something really specific at this point. Alicia wanted to hear more “tension” in the song. Adam couldn’t divorce his version from the original. Alicia is looking for a “bluesy, emotional” artist to round out her team. – No Turns

Sheena Brook – 33 – Fort Myers FL – Baby Girl by Sugarland – She’s married to a woman. They met and tied the knot within a year. Sheena played in various bands. Right now, she performs in beach bars. Adam turns immediately. Too bad Blake is full. She sings with a sweet country lilt. Nice phrasing. She reminds me a little of Cassadee Pope. “WOW” gushes Adam. “If I wasn’t gay, I’d marry him!” says Sheena’s wife from backstage. Adam is THRILLED that Blake couldn’t push his button. Inexplicably, Alicia pulls out an Adam hand puppet in order to taunt her fellow coach. You know it’s Adam because it’s sporting a stripey shirt. Random! Team Adam –  Download at iTunes

After a few singers were rejected by Alicia. Meshele Akopian singing “Me and Bobby McGhee,” Jacob Westfall crooning “Bad Blood” and Lyndsey Highlander performing “Bring on the Rain”  just didn’t do it for her.  In the next singer, she finally finds what she’s looking for.

Chris Blue – 26- Knoxville TN – The Tracks of My Tears by Smokey Robinson – He’s from a family of 7. The entire family sang in a Jackson 5 type band. They performed at the Bobby Jones Gospel show on BET and have traveled across the country. Chris has recently struck out on her own. His girlfriend is British. Battling bone cancer, she flatlined on the operating table. Dang. Her cancer had recurred. That’s not good. Chris pours all of his emotion into his performance. His phrasing is a little clipped and affected. It’s a bit distracting. He has a beautiful falsetto, though.  Alicia finally pushes her button, enthusiastically. Alicia wants to know how he learned all his tricks. “I hear the magnificent mania of your family back there,” she says. They come out on stage to give Chris a hug. He tells the coaches that when his girlfriend flatlined and survived, he proposed to her. Crazy mom is hugging Alicia – Team Alicia –  Download at iTunes
