The episode begins in Munich, Germany at Nymphenburg Palace. Twelve new teams are ready to begin the race. We meet some of them now. Luis & Michelle are a married couple from Miami. Derek & Claire met on Big Brother last year and are now dating. Tim & Rex are golf buddies. Rex is a former football coach for the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. Will & Abby are childhood sweethearts who dreamed about being on The Amazing Race. Quinton & Mattie are best friends and former NFL cheerleaders. Emily & Molly are long-lost twin sisters who met one year ago. Linton & Sharik are a father/daughter duo from Jamaica.
Phil gives them some information about the twists for this season. He informs them that this leg will have a Scramble. This means they can complete the tasks in any order they prefer. He also reveals that there will be no non-elimination legs this season. If they come in last place, then they will be eliminated from the race. For this first leg, they will be driving themselves in one of the parked cars provided.
The race begins, and all the teams sprint to their bags and cars. They open their clues and learn what they must do. They must roll a beer keg through an obstacle course at Luitpold Park, saw through a log at Biergarten Seehaus, and smash an enormous block of ice at Augustiner-Keller Biergarten. After they complete all three tasks, they will have the clue to make their way to the Pit Stop. The teams get directions and make their way to their first chosen task. Aashta & Nina take too long getting directions and are the last team to leave. We get to know some of the other teams. Aashta and Nina are engaged after meeting on a dating app. Marcus & Michael are brothers in the military. Rich & Dom are married motivational speakers.
Marcus & Michael are the first to arrive at the Roll task. They fail on their first attempt and must try again. Rich & Dom are the first to arrive at the Saw task. Marcus & Michael pass on their second attempt. We also get to know Aubrey & David. They are ballroom dancers. They arrive at the Roll task at the same time as Derek & Claire and Will & Abby. Derek & Claire pass on their first attempt. The other two teams must try again.
Emily & Molly arrive at the Smash task. It’s a Roadblock. Molly chooses to do the task. Luis & Michelle arrive too, with Luis performing the task. They must chisel ice until they reach the clue inside it. Luis finishes it very fast. Quinton & Mattie and Glenda & Lumumba arrive too. Molly gets the task done too. While they go to their next task, Tim & Rex and Aashta & Nina are lost and have yet to start their first task.
Linton & Sharik arrive at the Saw task, and they complete the task faster than Rich & Dom. Dom is getting frustrated, but she tries to stay calm. Meanwhile, Aubrey & David and Will & Abby complete the Roll task. They make their way to the Saw task.
Quinton and Glenda complete the Smash Roadblock as Aashta & Nina and Tim & Rex finally arrive. Nina and Tim choose to do the Roadblock. We meet Glenda & Lumumba, a married couple with a big height difference. Nina and Tim get the Roadblock done fairly quickly and can make their way to their next task.
Linton & Sharik are the first to complete the Saw task, but Rich & Dom complete it shortly afterwards. After they leave, Derek & Claire begin the Saw task as Marcus & Michael arrive at the Smash Roadblock. Meanwhile, Glenda & Lumumba and Quinton & Mattie arrive at the Roll task. All teams get their tasks done without any issues.
Emily & Molly complete the Roll task next, and Saw is the only task they have left. Marcus & Michael only have Saw left to complete too, but they get lost on the way there. Aubrey & David also get lost on the way to their next task.
Luis & Michelle, Aashta & Nina, Will & Abby, and Glenda & Lumumba arrive at the Saw task. As they work on that, Linton & Sharik complete the Roll task. After Will & Abby complete the task, Aubrey & David and Quinton & Mattie arrive at the Roll task. Meanwhile, Derek completes the Smash Roadblock. Derek & Claire have now completed all three tasks. They can now proceed to the Pit Stop: Friedensengel. They must find a monument that translates to Angel of Peace.
Rich & Dom and Tim & Rex work on the Roll task. Tim & Rex complete it on their first attempt, but Rich & Dom must try again. Meanwhile, Marcus & Michael get lost again on the way to their next task. Rich & Dom finally get the Roll task done after three attempts. Marcus & Michael finally arrive at the Saw task as Linton works on the Smash Roadblock for his team.
Derek & Claire arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil gives them the good news. Derek & Claire are Team #1! They each win $2,500. Glenda & Lumumba completed the Saw task and arrive later as Team #2.
Aashta & Nina struggle with the Roll task as Tim & Rex complete the Saw task. Emily & Molly arrive at the Saw task as Luis & Michaelle arrive at the Roll task. Luis & Michelle complete the task, but Aashta & Nina are still struggling. Meanwhile, Quinton & Mattie arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #3.
We see the rest of the teams working on completing their tasks, but Aashta & Nina have yet to complete the Roll task. It takes them five attempts to finally clear it. They are currently in eleventh place with Aubrey & David in last place after David clears the Smash Roadblock. It’s a mad dash to the Pit Stop for the rest of the teams.
Linton & Sharik and Emily & Molly arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #4 and Team #5 respectively. Marcus & Michael and Tim & Rex arrive together next, and they are followed by Will & Abby. Rich & Dom join them as Team #9. Later, Luis & Michelle arrive as Team #10.
It’s now down between Aashta & Nina and Aubrey & David. One of these teams will be eliminated. Aubrey & David greet Phil as Team #11. They are prepared for bad news, but they see Aashta & Nina running in the distance. They know they are still in the race as Team #11. Aashta & Nina eventually arrive and Phil gives them the bad news. Aashta & Nina have been eliminated from the race. They say they have no regrets and had a good time. Nina calls Aashta the light of her life. Aashta says they will laugh about this for the rest of their lives.
