The Amazing Race 29 Recap – Week 2 Live Blog

A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

The episode begins with teams learning they must fly to São Paulo, Brazil. Shamir gets frustrated when the travel agent is typing too slowly, and he and Sara miss out on the first flight to Brazil. The teams are scattered on six different flights to Brazil, with Jessie and Francesca being the only one on the sixth flight. Once at São Paulo, they must proceed to Praça da Sé.

Before arriving at the location, Matt and Redmond and Vanck and Ashton made an agreement at the airport to do a coin toss to decide who gets on the first helicopter. However, Matt and Redmond arrive there first and sign up for the first helicopter before Vanck and Ashton arrives. They do not honor the coin toss agreement. Vanck and Ashton arrive second, and they confront Matt and Redmond about the decision they made. Matt and Redmond remind them it’s a competition. Vanck and Ashton say in a confessional that it was unnecessary for Matt and Redmond to create enemies this early in the game. The rest of the teams arrive and sign up for a separate helicopter.

Matt and Redmond get on the first helicopter, and they are followed by Vanck and Ashton, Shamir and Sara, and Seth and Olive. Jessie and Francesca are still in last place and are stuck in traffic as we see the other teams get on helicopters. Brooke and Scott are currently in fifth place as we see them on a helicopter, and they are followed by Liz and Michael and London and Logan.

Matt and Redmond are the first team to learn about the Detour:  Keep the Beat (perform a routine with a samba group with musical instruments) or Work Your Feet (build a workout station using rudimentary equipment to the specification of the instructor).

Matt and Redmond get started on Work Your Feet, and Shamir and Sara choose to do Keep The Beat instead. We see Becca and Floyd and Tara and Joey on helicopters as Vanck and Ashton arrive at the Work Your Feet Detour. Matt and Redmond believe they have finished the Detour, but they do not pass due to forgetting to add water to a barrel. They eventually realize their mistake. They try to fix their error without Vanck and Ashton noticing in case they make the same mistake. Meanwhile, Liz and Michael and London and Logan proceed to the Keep the Beat Detour.

Shamir and Sara fail their first attempt at Keep the Beat as we see Brooke and Scott stuck in traffic. They are getting very worried about wasting time, so they get out of the taxi and try to find the Detour on foot.

Seth and Olive arrive at the Work Your Feet Detour as Matt and Redmond are the first to complete that Detour. They are handed their next clue, and they learn they must proceed to Avenida Paulista.

We finally see Jessie and Francesca on a helicopter as Brooke and Scott are bickering as they try to find the Detour. Brooke falls down while running and she injures her arm. Although she is in tears, she’s certain she’s fine and she and Scott continue on to find the Detour. “Pain is temporary. Elimination is forever,” Brooke says.

Vanck and Ashton are currently in second place after finishing the Work Your Feet Detour. Seth and Olive are right behind them in third place. Meanwhile, Brooke and Scott finally find the Work Your Feet Detour, but no one else is there but them.

London and Logan and Liz and Michael fail their first attempt at the Keep the Beat Detour, but Shamir and Sara manage to pass it. They are currently in fourth place. Jessie and Francesca are still far behind as they finally get off their helicopter. Liz and Michael and London and Logan soon pass the Detour as well.

Matt and Redmond get lost on the way to Avenida Paulista, which allows Vanck and Ashton to surpass them and get in first place. They are the first team to arrive at the Roadblock, which requires one team member to rappel down a building and wash marked windows. Ashton chooses to do the Roadblock. As Ashton gets started on the Roadblock, we see Becca and Floyd pass the Keep the Bear Detour on their first attempt. Floyd is a drummer, so he was excited there was a task that suited him perfectly. Meanwhile, Brooke and Scott manage to complete the Work Your Feet Detour as well.

Matt and Redmond are still lost on the way to the Roadblock, which allows Liz and Michael to surpass them too. Liz chooses to do the Roadblock. Jessica and Francesca finally get started on the Keep the Beat Detour as Matt and Redmond finally arrive at the Roadblock. Redmond chooses to do the task. In addition, Seth and Olive are the fourth team to arrive at the Roadblock with Seth doing the task.

Tara and Joey complete the Work Your Feet Detour and are currently in ninth place as Shamir and Sara and Brooke and Scott arrive at the Roadblock. Scott has a fear of heights, but he has to do the Roadblock due to Brooke’s injury when she fell down earlier. Scott is in tears as he is about to do the task, but he does it anyway.

Liz is the first to complete the Roadblock, and she’s followed by Ashton. Seth, on the other hand, failed the Roadblock on his first attempt. Liz and Michael and Vanck and Ashton learn they can now proceed to the Pit Stop: Trianon Park. Liz and Michael go looking for a taxi, but Vanck tells Ashton they can run there. It looks like a close race, but it is Liz and Michael who check-in as Team #1! They win a trip to Barbados. Vanck and Ashton arrive later as Team #2. Although they didn’t win the leg, Ashton is happy to have beaten Matt and Redmond. She says she holds grudges, and she won’t forget about Matt and Redmond going back on their deal. And although she had trouble working with him on the first leg, Ashton says she’s happy with her partner and wouldn’t switch if she could.

Redmond completes the Roadblock next, so he and Matt can now proceed to the Pit Stop. Meanwhile, Jessie and Francesca finally complete the Keep the Beat Detour as Tara gets started on the Roadblock. Scott, Becca, Logan, and Seth are still working on it though. Matt and Redmond do arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #3.

Back at the Roadblock, Shamir believes he finished the Roadblock, but he missed a spot. He must do it again. Seth is the next to finish the Roadblock, and he and Olive arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #4. As Shamir starts the Roadblock again, he is complaining about the harness being really tight. He says his testicles are in a lot of pain and he can’t bear it anymore. He even punches a window in frustration, cracking it. We hear a confessional from Logan, and he says Shamir “got a little testy” for no good reason. Being harnessed in like that was going to be uncomfortable for all the men, and he says Shamir should’ve just handled it. We next see Shamir demanding to see a doctor as he’s still complaining about the pain.

Meanwhile, the rest of the teams at the Roadblock complete the task. Brooke and Scott, Becca and Floyd, London and Logan, and Tara and Joey can now proceed to the Pit Stop. They all also arrive there one after another with all of them standing on the Pit Stop as a large group. Becca and Floyd are Team #5, Brooke and Scott are Team #6, Tara and Joey are Team #7, and London and Logan are Team #8.

Shamir is still struggling with the Roadblock when Jessie and Francesca finally arrive. Jessie and Francesca are unable to find the lady on a bike that is supposed to hand them their next clue. Sara tries to send them in a wrong direction, and her plan seems to have worked. However, Jessie and Francesca return before Shamir gets started on doing the task again. The girls now have a chance as Francesca gets started on the Roadblock as Shamir begins his fifth attempt at it. Unfortunately for the girls, Francesca did not pass the task on her first attempt. Shamir does eventually pass, and he and Sara can now proceed to the Pit Stop.

Shamir and Sara arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #9. Shamir is clearly angry and even has an attitude with Phil as he expresses his displeasure with the harness being too tight. Phil asks him if he has ever been in a harness before, and Shamir tells him no. Phil asks Sara her thoughts, and Sara breaks down in tears as she tries to talk. She’s unhappy with Shamir’s attitude, but Shamir asserts that his anger isn’t directed toward her.

Jessie and Francesca are the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil informs them they have been eliminated from the race. Although disappointed, they say they have no regrets and had a blast being on the race.
