UPDATE: Taylor Hicks told ABC radio last week:
…I’m realeasing a compilation album of my earlier works…on Vanguard Records and I will be releasing a brand new record with brand new material, hopefully in the fall. I’ve been working in Nashville and looking to tour nationally next year early and internationally next year as well.
Check out a clip, after the jump, of Jim Cantiello from MTV interviewing Taylor Hicks. Taylor is currently writing and recording music for an upcoming album, and hints that one of the songs he’s written is “on hold for a huge megastar.” He’s pretty “stoked” about it, but won’t say who it is, in order “not to jinx it”.
But he does spill that the megastar is a she.

Taylor says he was offered a part in Hairspray earlier in the year, but couldn’t fit it into his schedule.
He also says he’s very close to signing with a new label. Perhaps that’s the big news he’s been hinting at lately?
He is proud of the record he made after Idol:
As many songs as were thrown at me in the 10 minutes I had to choose them, I kept a good guard up, because I knew my artistic guard would allow people to say that I really took the integrity to keep my art, ” he said. “I’ve been working 15 years to make it in this business. I didn’t want to not make it anymore. I’m proud of that record. I just wish we would have had more time to record it, but I’m proud of it. That’s key.
