And in the “we already knew this, didn’t we?” department–Entertainment Weekly is reporting that FOX has confirmed Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson will be returning to American Idol for Season 11.
Steven signed a multi-year deal last year, and Randy’s contract isn’t up yet so, it’s pretty much a no brainer that the two aren’t going anywhere.
Jennifer Lopez signed a 1 year contract and has said in a couple of interviews that she has not decided whether to re-sign or not.
If Jennifer doesn’t return to Idol, who will take her place? It would be great to have somebody on the panel with a few stones and a little spine. Unfortunately, it’s next to impossible for women judges to play tough without being labeled with the B word. No matter if she stays or if she goes, I don’t expect the complexion of the panel to change much with Randy and Steven staying on board.
I think Jennifer is holding out for more dough. I also think FOX will give it to her. Unfortunately, the drama will probably play out for weeks–a repeat of last summer’s signing drama, filled with a constant stream of non-news from entertainment sites trying to out-scoop each other. Ugh.
