Find Out Which Motown Hits Get the Cast Dancing in the Street!

Early on in the competition, Nathan making the Finals would have been a safe bet.   He was an early darling, featured during Season 5 auditions as the 17-year old kid too young to compete.   Nigel gave him a tickets to Las Vegas, good, for Season 6. And indeed, his edits through the competition were positive.

But something happened once the competition went live.   Nathan pissed him off when, after he appeared in the bottom 3 one week, Nathan didn’t seem contrite enough (I thought it was hot! Nathan said after Nigel’s critique) From then on, Nigel was on the kid’s back pretty much non-stop.

Nathan’s performances were uneven, but so were some of the other dancers (Ryan’s wince-inducing hip-hop, Legacy’s faulty waltz). But when Nathan was on, he was on.   A really beautiful dancer. I would have liked him to stick around for another week or two.

Last night’s performances HERE.

Videos and short recap, after the JUMP…

Tonight, YOUR votes choose the two dancers who go home tonight!

A very unusual situation: Tonight’s Results show has been taped ahead due to scheduling conflicts with SYTYCD UK.

  1. Yay Ashleigh! I don’t care which girl goes now except if Ryan doesn’t go, then I want Noelle to go. Best part of the group number was Ashleigh & Ryan together!

  2. That league of extraordinary dancers was pretty fantastic, I had to remind and watch again, I loved the artistry.

  3. It was much better than the YouTube video of them that I saw earlier.

I thought I noticed Jamile from Season 1 when they panned the performers. Maybe it was just someone who looked like him?

ETA: Still love seeing the old contestants that are in Quest. :)

  4. I thought I noticed Jamile from Season 1 when they panned the performers. Maybe it was just someone who looked like him?

No, I think he’s in the group. I didn’t watch season 1, but I remember reading somewhere he’s part of LXD. Harry Shum (“Other Asian” on Glee) is also part of the group. He’s one of the ones who choreographed that routine, according to Cat’s intro.

Legacy has also been a part of the group in the past, if I’m not mistaken.

ETA: “Constructive” criticism from Nigel to Nathan, Cat? Yeah, right.
ETA2: Also, Nigel – GREAT job again, on telling Nathan basically that people don’t love him. I swear, I want to slap him upside the face sometimes. I wish Adam had gotten to talk to Nathan instead. At least he would have been encouraging, not “people are voting for others because they love them, and they don’t love you.” Yes, Nigel, we all know that already. DOESN’T mean you have to verbalize it and “rub it in.” UGH.

  5. Still love D-Trix!

    ITA.

And Sarah, I agree with you about Nigel’s comments about Nathan. I’ll take over the slapping when you start to get tired

  6. Oh darn, I really liked Noelle.

Nathan’s crocodile tears did him in. Too much drama.

  7. Are you going to post the videos tonight? You are the only source I have to be able to watch this show. I appreciate you!!! We don’t have cable and my son broke our flat screen with the Wii remote so there goes TV. :o( Grateful for this site!!!:o)

  8. Awww I love Kathryn, she is just adorable.

She is just too cute isn’t she? :)

As far as tonight’s results and well really last night’s performance show, I was wondering how it would go down with the voting public now having full responsibilty for who would be sent home. I wasn’t really surprised to see Nathan go but Noelle, it was slightly different for me.

We have a great top 10 this season as we did with Season 5 and when you get to this point, sometimes it gets to the point where you are unsure of who will get the cut. They are all great dancers in their own way but each week 2 people have to go home. Wednesday’s are never fun especially if you lose one of your favorites.

  9. MJ, don’t know if you’re aware, but your performance vids from last night now seem to be removed from Yahoo, so any you add to this post may be in similar jeopardy.

  10. Also, Nigel ‘“ GREAT job again, on telling Nathan basically that people don’t love him. I swear, I want to slap him upside the face sometimes. I wish Adam had gotten to talk to Nathan instead. A

So. much. word. I got nuthin else. Oh, wait, there’s one thing…

This is a reenactment of what was going through my mind during that group piece:

Billy Joel? ANd could these costumes be cheesier? Seriously? Oh look, Russell is doing something krump-ish! And now Legacy unsurprisingly is doing a spinny b boy move. Jakob apparently was told to jump really high like a bunch of times. The chicks are just basically fake acting sexy. Zoinks, the marrieds are making out! That’s not church tongue… annnnd thank god it’s over. Nathan should be happy he was shoved into the background because he’s leaving. Who the hell choreographed this piece of crap? Napoleon Dynamite? A monkey? Ohhhh, of course. Well, I was close.

    ….and scene.

  11. Seems Nathan dragged down Kathryn. She was breathtaking last nite, and is one of the strongest females (along with Elenore). Hope Jakob “randomly” selects her name for next week’s routines. I could see those two having insane chemistry. I had to scroll up to remember Noelle’s name….thats how much of an impression she left on me. Bland.

Not sad to see Nathan go….he had/has a lot of potential, but the boys field is too strong. He cannot compete with Jakob, Russ or Legacy. I cannot see any scenario which will land Ryan in the top 6, unless he and his wife are paired up next week and they dance to a terminal illness routine.

  12. Thanks for the videos, MJ! I didn’t get to watch tonight but just watched this one…

Next, it’s the Legion of Extraordinary dancers, ‘Yellow’ by Vitamin String Quartet ‘“ VIDEO

    Twice.

Because that was pretty fricking cool :)

  13. Sarah, you are so right about Nigel. He has had a bad attitude all season, but especially to Nathan. I hope his appearance on the show lands him a dancing job. I felt bad for him. Adam would have been much kinder.

That performance by the Legion of Extraordinary dancers was like pure ballet. I also viewed it a few times. Quest’s performance wasn’t as meaningful.

I was totally surprised Kathryn and Ryan were in the bottom two. They are my favorite dancers. Ryan needs to find a way to attract more fans. Kathryn has everything in her favor.

  14. I’m so glad Nathan is gone! Now I can enjoy the rest of the season in peace.

  15. Kathryn is one of only two female dancers who always keep my attention (Ellenore being the other), so I was not happy to see her in the bottom two.

Nice job piling on there, Nigel. I don’t even like Nathan and wanted him gone two weeks ago, at least, but you definitely made me feel bad for him.

  16. I guess everyone already knows this – apologies if it’s already been posted–

Harry Shum, “the other Asian” Glee kid, is very involved with the League of Extraordinary Dancers. He was one of the choreographers of last night’s routine.

    He’s been tweeting about it.

  17. The League of Extraordinary Dancers was beyond fabulous. And I really have to mention that choreography. It stood out. SYTYCD is a show ABOUT choreography – and even against such a rich palette – that particular choreographer branded himself as special. Wade Robeson special. He choreographed three-dimensionally, using space as its own element. Most choreographers tend to think in Broadway ‘proscenium’ terms. They move people the way Western Civilization thinks and reads: linier; left to right. This guy didn’t limit himself. I love how he accented the instruments providing the music: movement that emulated strings, or sat within the bassline. It flowed across the stage, rippling like sound waves. I was transfixed. Every other second I’m grabbing my husbands arm, bursting with explication: pointing out how the choreographer created particular musical phrasing with human bodies. Bloody brilliant. Whatever else happened on that stage – watching that tiny masterpiece was worth suffering through endless hours of Tyce Diorio monotony.

    Everything you said.

I’m so glad that I have that performance on dvd now.

  19. LXD was breathtaking last night, they did a fab job.
Love to see the boys of Quest too even for such a short period of time.
Elimination was kind of sad only because Nathan had such promise at the start of the competition but he had completely lost his mojo this week.
Can’t say I was too pleased to see Kathryn in the B2 either, she deserved better considering her past work.

  20. Ok, I didn’t even get to comment on this last night due to all the Adam drama, but now I’m jumping in:

LOVED LOVED LOVED the LXD – they were awesome!

I so called Nathan and Noelle going home, mainly for personality, since at this point a lot of them are about even on the talent scale (with Legacy and Ashleigh being the weakest, but making up for it with more personality and charm).

Nathan rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, though – he’s very talented, but doesn’t partner well, comes off as fake and egotistical (whether he means to or not), and just never seemed very mature on the show. Noelle is good, but a little too bland compared to the other women on the show.

My official fav now is Jakob – he is absolutely amazing to watch – during the opening routine (which seemed to focus on him a lot, lol), those jumps and extensions – wow – just amazing! I hope he wins it all. He’s sweet and super talented. I’d put Russell and Ellenore in the rest of the top 4, with the last spot probably going to Kathryn, though imo it could go to any of the remaining girls.

I predict Ryan will be going home next week – and for the girls it could be anyone.

  21. That league of extraordinary dancers was pretty fantastic, I had to remind and watch again, I loved the artistry.

It was awesome. I watched it three times!

That other, Snoop Dawg, thing seemed very amateurish by comparison. Maybe they should have performed first.

Totally agree with the Nigel assessments. What a d-bag. I didn’t even like Nathaniel, but he was really good this week (when he was dancing); I don’t get the pile-on.

My favorites at this point are Jakob, Ellenore, Russell and Kathryn. I like Ashleigh and Legacy, too, but I think they may have already reached their peaks. We’ll see how they do with other partners; they clearly have strong fanbases, although nobody’s is as strong as Molly’s, I fear. I really wish she’d left instead of Nathaniel. Oh, the irony.

  22. Sarah, you are so right about Nigel. He has had a bad attitude all season, but especially to Nathan. I hope his appearance on the show lands him a dancing job. I felt bad for him. Adam would have been much kinder.

It’s called TOUGH LOVE. Nigel provided a tx for Season 6 and Nathan took the wrong attitude about the entire thing. Especially when Nigel lended his constructive criticism week after week. I love, love Adam but sometimes he can be a little bit too kind; he’s the ‘Paula’ version of AI. America called it and got it right.

  23. I don’t know if anyone is coming back to this thread, but I just watched a tape of the show, and just read that interview with Nigel, and felt like commenting. I was at DC’s final concert so missed out on seeing the show realtime and voting.

If I had been able to vote, my votes would have mostly gone to Jacob and Eleanor who were both incredible. They have emerged as the cream of the crop in my eyes. I like some performances of Russell, Legacy, Kathryn and Ashleigh as well. Of those 4 I don’t really have strong feelings at this point about who I’d like to see complete the Final 4 but I think it should come from this pool.

I did think it was time for Noell to go and I do hope Mollee is next. As Nigel pointed out in his interview, both “youngsters” have the bodies but what they’re missing is life experience to give some heft and interpretive quality to their dance. Of course both Nathan and Mollee have mad skills but they’re both missing a maturity to their moves. And thats not really something that is going to substantially change over the short season of SYTYCD, no matter how much the producers might want to see it.

Loved LXD, enjoyed watching the Quest crew do their thing, but was meh on the opening number by Tyce. Boy, do I miss Wade and Mia. The choreography this season overall is on the weak side. Thankfully, there’s Sonya and Travis.
