Smash Series Finale Moved to Sunday May 26

Although it’s been banished to Saturday night burn-off, Smash, the series finale for the beleaguered NBC musical drama, has been given an upgrade by the network.

NBC has scheduled a two-hour finale for Sunday May 26, 9/8c–which is Memorial Day weekend, so good luck with that! Still better than the dead zone of Saturday, however.

The last installment, titled “The Tonys” will find the Broadway shows, Hit List and Bombshell, and their casts, competing against each other for awards.

Showrunner Josh Safran teases, “Someone is pregnant! Someone is arrested! There is a kiss between a gay man and straight man — who kisses back!” Uhm. OK! Not that we’ll ever see these little plot twists played out. It hasn’t been announced officially, but the Saturday move basically equalled cancellation for the struggling sophomore show.

It’s too bad. Smash had a lot of promise, but was mishandled by the network from the get go.
