Check out your first glimpse of So You Think You Can Dance. The perennial summer dance show is set to premiere on FOX Monday June 12.
The show this season will “get back to basics.” In the past two years, executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe tweaked the format, in an attempt to combat falling ratings. In 2015, there was “Street vs Stage” which was all about the hip hop and contemporary, sacrificing beloved dance styles such as ballroom. Mary Murphy was replaced with Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo on the judges panel. In 2016, the show transformed even more drastically, into So You Think You Dance: The Next Generation, featuring young dancers between the ages of 8-14. Despite the changes, the ratings stayed flat.
So, this year? It’s back to where we started! Mary Murphy is back on the judges panel alongside Nigel Lythgoe. The adult contestants have returned! Dancers must be aged 18-30. Actress Vanessa Hudgens will appear as guest host. And of course, the All-Stars, culled from previous seasons of SYTYCD will return to mentor the newbies. Hooray. Check out the first promo below.
