  1. Rock you like a family man
On his debut album, ‘American Idol’ alum Chris Daughtry sings about what’s ‘real’ to him.

..”I can only write about what’s real to me,” Daughtry says on the phone from New York, a few days before he launches the U.S. club tour that’ll keep him on the road until mid-April. “And that’s my life, so that’s all I could really draw from.”..

  2. St. Louis R&B singer Sineta makes it to Hollywood

For years, Sineta Roker, known around town simply as Sineta, was just like any other R&B singer on the St. Louis music scene. She was toiling away in a city where R&B is often overlooked for hip-hop.

Now, Roker has a bit of distinction: She is the only St. Louis performer known to have made it to the Hollywood rounds of the current cycle of “American Idol.”………

Week 2 of American Idol delivers more awful delusional people right into your home. Welcome them all.

    ..The Yeses:

I refuse to call them Golden Ticket winners, the unofficial name they’ve been trying to stick on everyone who gets one of the little pee-yellow pieces of paper that means they’re going Hollywood. A Golden Ticket is for four bad little boys and girls (and one good one) who visit a chocolate factory. And that’s that. But anyway, here they are..

EDITOR’S NOTE – Associated Press Writer Solvej Schou has been singing since childhood and performs professionally. Last summer, she auditioned in Pasadena, Calif., for this season’s “American Idol” – not as a reporter but as an aspiring contestant along with 10,000 other first-rounders.

Ottawa-native Jory Steinberg floored her mom when she scooped up an illusive gold ticket

  7. Fantasia has two performances on TV this weekend.

    UNCF TRIBUTE TO ARETHA FRANKLIN
    syndicated nationally

The Queen of Soul got a royal salute but an “American Idol” winner stole the show at the taping of a star-studded tribute to Aretha Franklin on Friday.
Franklin was feted as the subject of the United Negro College Fund’s annual TV special “An Evening of Stars,” which will air nationwide in January. During the first of two tapings at the Kodak Theater, singers Natalie Cole, Jennifer Hudson, Joss Stone, Rueben Studdard, Bebe Winans and Mary Mary delivered songs associated with Franklin.

But it was Fantasia Barrino, an “American Idol” winner from a few years ago and the subject of a much-watched “Lifetime” network biopic, who tore the roof off the elegant Hollywood & Highland venue in two jaw-dropping performances.
    . . .
Actress Regina King spoke for them all: “If you think it’s easy to stand up here and sing for Aretha Franklin, think again.”

But Barrino, the 22-year-old mom with a true-life rags-to-riches story, not only made it look easy, she put everyone else firmly in the past tense. Covering “Rock Steady” and “Baby, I Love You,” she sang every note like her life depended on it. Prowling the stage, she took the songs by the throat, appearing as if she was having as great a time as the audience. At one point she left the stage, and stood directly in front of Franklin, to ad lib “Aretha, I love you” as the chorus to her second song.

Barrino is probably the most talented singer “American Idol” has produced, and the only one that would’ve made it on her own without the amateur singing contest.

A word to the wise: Love Aretha – and keep an eye on Fantasia. She’s got it.

CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL ’07 Sunday, January 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET

For the seventh installment of Celebration of Gospel, Coko and crew (Lil’ Mo. Fantasia and Kiki Sheard) were endowed with the Holy Spirit in a performance that was the exclamation point to an evening of glorious entertainment. . . . When [Coko] decided to re-make her favorite Clark Sisters song (“Endow Me”) on “Grateful” some sisters with voices who knew how to go to church on a song originally rendered by vocal powerhouses were required.

Proof positive that “you can take the girl out of gospel, but you can’t take gospel out of the girl” the performance was one of the most incredible of the night, elevating the atmosphere to a higher level of worship.

  8. hot review on billboard about taylor’s up coming single

    news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070127/media_nm/review_music_single_dc

they call the voice a powerhouse on his single..southern soul..country (they believe it’s a cross over song to country)

they said this song was more then convincin g of anything he sung on american idol(i beg to differ)
and they seemed to hate DIMYP all and all looks like we got a hit here and if country station pick it up too woooooooooooooooooooooo

  9. From Billboard Chart Beat:

The 109th No. 1 for the (Idol) franchise is Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” (Arista). After 46 weeks on Hot Country Songs, the single dips below No. 10 and is thus removed to the recurrent chart, where it debuts at No. 1.

Underwood’s album, “Some Hearts,” may have peaked at No. 2 on The Billboard 200, but this week it returns to No. 1 on Top Country Albums for a 21st non-consecutive week in the penthouse. That means “Some Hearts” has spent time at No. 1 in three consecutive years: 2005, 2006 and 2007.

  10. folk, that was the coolest video I’ve ever seen. Her hair did look like shite.

This is for dingo: Sundance, I just don’t like him.

    Good morning all.

  11. Billboard review of Taylor’s new single:

    http://au.news.yahoo.com/070126/11/127nz.html

And on “Just to Feel That Way,” he emits a powerhouse vocal that goes from coarse growl to cool-guy sensitivity; in fact, it is more convincing than most anything he sang on the show.

    Bye all. See ya later!

  12. folk: Did you like Patrick Hall last season? I thought someone here did… anyway I just heard his new song, it’s not bad.

  13. my question: do you think that video is for real? i cannot decide. the title has “wig” in it…but I could be reading too much into it, as the bridesmaid seem genuine.

  14. color me surprised billboard gave him a decent review. interesting.

Hasn’t billboard always been fairly kind to Taylor? I was surprsied that they classified it as country rock. It dosent’ sound like country rock to me. Are they even targeting country stations?

my question: do you think that video is for real? i cannot decide. the title has à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“wigà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦but I could be reading too much into it, as the bridesmaid seem genuine.

The only thing I question is the fact that it was filmed. If it was real, wouldn’t you drop the camera and try to help?

OH, for all you *** fans, my local top 40 station played Over It last night.

  15. JJ, don’t leave me! Walk towards the light! The Sundance Kid is really good. :)

    Good morning, my friend!

  16. Morning Nola, sorry I was told to never walk towards the light.

You know if Sundance lost some weight and cleaned himself up, he could have it in the looks department. His father was very handsome. I would also love to meet a guy who could bend backwards like he did.

I’m leaning towards opening weekend of Jazzfest, mostly for Rod Stewart and Van Morrison. You could make an argument for either weekend, but I think they are swaying me. Even though I would love to see John Legend.

Jennifer – That means the Sundance fan club so far has 2 Taylor fans, 1 Chris fan and 1 Elliott fan. If Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not mistaken XO liked Sundance also – might be wrong on that oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ If so, then we can add 1 Kat fanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ interesting.

I saw this from last night. Count another Chris fan in your group. :mrgreen_wp:

  18. Chris was smart to wait until the afternoon on Friday to announce that one of his band members have left. This week has illustrated what we talked about over the summer…how good news is released on Tuesday (e.g. Elliott releasing a CD) so that it gets maximum news coverage while news you want buried gets shunted to the afternoon on Friday so that it can miss the news cycle.

  19. i will predictà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦sundance will not win. not going to happen.

folk is my new favorite poster

    ******

His father must have been great in bed! Hey, look what they did
with Taylor. He was pudgy, to say the least, and they cleaned him up very well.

Smart move by going with Rod Stewart and Van Morrison! When will you ever see them together again?

  21. I like Sundance as well as several others. I’m not gonna pigeon-hole myself this early. LOL

I had heard that dautree lost a band member. Maybe he’s too young
to perform in the bars during the tour. hahahaha

  22. Bean – Welcome to the Sundance fan club. Sorry JJ.

There are some really good new pics of Elliott on page two of his pics at his myspace if anyone is interested. I was impressed!

  23. I would also love to meet a guy who could bend backwards like he did.

Any particular reason why? ‘Cause I can think of a few… :devil_tb:

  24. Big difference between needing to lose 20 lbs. and needing to lose 120 lbs. also Taylor is 6’1″ and Sundance looks to be about 5’5″. Sundance reminds me of Meatloaf or Scott Savol. Yuk!!!

  25. Hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t billboard always been fairly kind to Taylor? I was surprsied that they classified it as country rock. It dosentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ sound like country rock to me. Are they even targeting country stations?

Don’t mean to toot my own horn but I have been encouraging JTFTW to be push to country radio from the time his people decided to release it as a single the radio. I does have a bit of country flavor to it. I even made the same request over on Gray’s right before the re-tooled version was released. Take away some of the pop flavor and add a bit more guitar and it can work. Taylor already has that southern drawl shining through a bit. I’ve always felt that JTFTW is a single that can be heard on both pop, country, as well as easy listening radio stations and I’m sticking with it..

    Good morning everyone.

  26. I like Sundance a lot, and I’ve blogged a little bit about him, but like NOLA I don’t wanna pigeon-hole myself. Then again, while I really loved Taylor’s audition, I didn’t start Googling him until the Top 24 round was chosen, I think, so I could wind up getting invested later. As of right now, I don’t even know if I’m gonna vote…and part of me just wants to be able to ENJOY THE FRIGGIN’ SHOW without worrying about how my favorite is going to fare!

  27. I have been here so long, that I am embarassed to ask for help.
How do you do the “quote” thingy?

  28. the more i think about it….why did that bride have scissors near her…who cuts their hair?

  29. scout, you are preaching to the choir.
I’m a huge Taylor fan and just happen to like Sundance.
He doesn’t need to lose 120#. Yeah, he needs to lose a
few; but we don’t need anymore rail thin people in this
    world.

  30. Hey, gonna give Sundance’s father some serious credit. The man can move. Even James Brown couldn’t bust those kinds of moves..lol

  31. why did that bride have scissors near herà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦who cuts their hair?

Ha! I cut my own hair. I have really short hair and no discernible hairstyle so I just hack away as necessary. I am like ***’s polar opposite when it comes to obsessing about my looks :)

For the record, I don’t care if Sundance loses 120 pounds and comes out looking like a movie star. I didn’t find his voice all that interesting, although I recognize that he’s very, very good.

  32. I had heard that dautree lost a band member. Maybe heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s too young to perform in the bars during the tour.

Nola, I think you might be on to something. I found it odd that Daughtry said Jeremy had “graciously stepped down.” That sure sounds like they wanted or needed him to go.

  33. NOLA–hit the “b-quote” button twice, then type the text you want to be quoted in between the two tags. It’s the easiest way to remember to close your tags. Like this below (but remove the spaces within the tags:

    < b l o c k q u o t e >I want this text in quotes< / b l o c k q u o t e >

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not saying i want Sundance to win but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s my favorite so far.

Same here. There are others I like but for some reason he remains on top of my list. The looks/weight don’t matter so much to me.

I was watching ET last night and they said that Kat was appearing at some Red fashion show. She’s really getting around these days. I wonder if it will help with sales of her album?

  35. I found it odd that Daughtry said Jeremy had à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“graciously stepped down.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I think maybe they’ve decided they want everyone to be named “Josh” and if so Joey is the next to go.

So, if JTFTW strikes the industry as a country song, it makes perfect sense that the crack marketing team is pushing the song to three different formats that apparently don’t want to play it. :thumbup_tb:

  36. but cheese…you need to watch the video! she is cutting her hair off an hour before her wedding….and not in a style.

  37. HDD is the Hists Daily double site someone posted above, that talks about Chris’ album. Except when I click on it, all I get is a moving head that baas like a sheep, that I’m supposed to click to enter the site, but the head just turns into a sheep and I’m not entered anywhere for information.

  38. I have a freezer full of crow for Taylor’s naysayers. I’ll pass out microwave ovens, to boot, to help it go down better.

Why frozen, you ask. Well, I didn’t say it would not take awhile, but he’ll get there, and the crow will be fresh and ready. LOL

Bean – Welcome to the Sundance fan club. Sorry JJ.

There are some really good new pics of Elliott on page two of his pics at his myspace if anyone is interested. I was impressed!

JEEZ LOUISE LU! THOSE PICS OF ELLIOTT KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF, LOL!

  40. Nola, I think you might be on to something. I found it odd that Daughtry said Jeremy had à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“graciously stepped down.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ That sure sounds like they wanted or needed him to go.

Sounds like someone got kicked out of the band..Lucky him. By the way, which one was Jeremy. Couldn’t be the one with the mohawk who was always prancing around behind Chris. Maybe Chris felt he was getting to much attention. LOL

Folk, watched the Bridezilla video. All the young lady had to do was pin her hair up. Her hair already had the curls. Talk about not being able to think clearly when you’re upset.

  41. MsGail61,do you have pop-ups blocked? I think that after you get the sheep, you are supposed to get a pop-up that allows you to register. You’ll need to enable that pop-up.

If it’s not that, maybe it’s something to do with versions of flash.

  42. bean – Kat’s CD this Tuesday right? Then Elliott’s new single 2/13. Lots of stuff hapening for the AI5 guys and I’m happy for them. You must be thrilled at how well Chris is doing… wow.

I heard that he was overwhelmed by all that was happening and decided that this wasn’t for him at this stage of his life. He’s very young. I don’t know of any reason that they would have asked him to leave but you never know. He’s the one I least know about. Hopefully they can get someone to step in soon who will fit in nicely.

Btw, Jeremy was the 2nd guitar and was always at the far right, next to the guy with the mohawk. I noticed that he was seldom seen when the band was performing on tv.

  44. Nancy – Those pics are pretty amazing aren’t they. Someone on etrain said they were from a recent photo shoot. Lots of potential for CD covers don’t you think? Do you have a favorite?

  45. Yep Lu Kat’s CD Tuesday I’m so excited!!

She got added by Seattle-Tacoma this morning! Yay my hometown makes me proud!

Anyway, Sundance will go far in the competition, but I think it’s a girls’ year. The guy is mega talented.

  46. Morning.

I dragged this over from last nights thread.

    Boulder said….

    DINGO, stop spreading rumors!!!

I am not, nor have I ever been a member of the Sundance club.
    ——————————————-
Hey! This aint the McCarthy hearings!
Im sitting here weeping. I just throw names out there and hope someone will believe me and hope the person Im talkinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢bout doesnt see it. In this case, the person whose name I tossed out there was you and I was caught red handed. If Donna hadnt a brought it up from yesterday no one would even KNOW dammit. Cà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢mere Donna. I gotta cookie for ya.

When will you guys learn? I just say shit, it doesnt mean its true lmfao.

PS- Id NEVER spread a nasty rumor, its just shit that doesnt mean anything but you should all know that by now.

For the record, it was NOLA but I couldnt think of who it was and Boulder had just posted something so I just said Boulder cause it was convenient.

    Weeping…..

I think you’re right about Kat’s date, Lu. I’m happy for Elliott that he’s finally getting something going. I’m shocked it took so long. I am very happy for Chris. It’s definitely fun when your favorite does well. :grin1_ee:

  48. Robot Neglect at GrayCharles

Wow, he’s really asking for it. He put an end to Kat Talk right before the final two and I don’t believe she’s been mentioned since (at least not explicitly, but then again, I really don’t frequent the discussion there). Huh.

  49. Bean, it was more the wording that Chris used. “Graciously stepped down” usually means someone stepped down for the good of the rest and is usually code for implying some pressure was used to encourage the person to leave. It’s just not the words you use for someone leaving for personal reasons.

  50. Hi Dingo – Didya see that Tay’s new single got a good review from Billboard?

    Folk – I don’t think the video’s legit.

  51. yeah metta….i hope the video is not legit. the only thing that gives me pause is the bridesmaid laughing nervously….she is either a very good actress or for real.

  52. bean – I still hope one day for some kind of AI5 reunion show. I know it sounds corny but I think that they had something special and have a genuine affection for each other. I know – I’m a sap.

I’m getting really excited for Elliott. Things finally seem to be happening. I think his single is going to be awesome.

  53. I am not in the Sundance camp right now. I just don’t think he is that great.

I thought there were better singers but it is soooo early right now. At this point in the competition, I liked Paris and Lisa the best.

  54. metta! Go to Elliott’s myspace and check out the pics on page 2 of his pics. Come back and tell me what you think.

  55. Kat – It is weird for him to open up that can of worms. Also, he just about had a cow recently when people were talking about AI. Why tempt fate?

I have another yes .com question. When you plug in the artist’s name, do you end up with a screen that’s totally blank on the right side, and on the left has Artists View and some other info?

  56. Ami, I admit to wondering about that statement myself. It did make me think there was more there but I haven’t heard any rumors about it.

Lu, it would be nice to see the AI5 group again but I doubt it will happen. I imagine most of them are happy to have moved on to bigger & better things.

  57. Bean, it was more the wording that Chris used. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Graciously stepped downà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

That is an odd way to phrase it. Maybe Chris was trying to be fancy.

Even when people are forced out of situations, they usually say something like “has tendered his resignation” or “I’ve accepted his resignation”. Of course, that would be too formal for a RAWK band, but something like “he decided to leave” would have been more neutral than “graciously stepped down”.

  58. For the record, it was NOLA but I couldnt think of who it was and Boulder had just posted something so I just said Boulder cause it was convenient.

    Weepingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..

    ********

    What did I do?

  59. XO: Why would Gray have Katà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s CD?

    Street violations?

In any event, he’s removed the picture.

  60. The one where her legs are spread apart, XO.
Oh, damn, that’s all of them, isn’t it? :)

  61. Yes, great fun was had by all in last nite’s chat re. the runaway J. lol

  62. In any event, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s removed the picture.

    Interesting…

Lu – Thanks for the link. I’m going to check right now.

  63. As much as I hate to say it, I do wish Katharine well next week.
After all, she did come in 2nd!

  64. ooooh, could you see Kat acting on you tube and cutting off her big and sexy hair?

i want more people to watch that vid so we can discuss….

  65. Wow, Elliott cleans up nice! The extreme closeup one could be an album cover.

  66. I think Gray has a thing for Kat.
You can’t blame him. THe girl is HOT! Maybe Taylor and him are discussing the cover picture..LOL
    JMHO.

  67. I don’t know why Jeremy “stepped down” but according to his cousin who talked about it on another site, it was a little too fast and too soon for him (DAUGHTRY # 1 album, INO climbing charts at # 6, a 3 month tour coming up with another BIGGER tour scheduled for the Fall) plus he wasn’t sure he wanted to be a “rockstar”.

Jeremy was the youngest member of the band at 21 years of age (he looks younger) and just recently been playing in bands. The other guys have been playing in bands for over a decade and know about the good as well as the bad part of the business (lack of privacy, constant touring, being away from family and friends for a big chunk of time, etc). Also the other band members are older (in late 20’s and 30’s) and are more established in their personal lives (3 guys are now married with 2 having children).

I am just curious to see if the next band member’s name starts with the letter “J” :wink_wp:

  68. I think he took the whole post down. Must’ve thought twice.

Honestly, I don’t mind snarking on Kat here, or on VFTW, or on other non-fan sites…but I’d feel weird about it at Gray’s. That site’s affiliated with Taylor and my feelings about Kat are my own feelings, and I wouldn’t want anyone confusing the two.

  69. LisaB, as always thanks for all the work you do. Mornings are so much fun with coffee in hand and the blog that has the best, most informative posters in front of me.

I was kinda puttering around last night after I logged off and I turned on my DiVX Player and all of the Taylor vids popped up from Idol. I decided to take a walk down memory lane hoping that this walk, which I have not taken for about 4 months in its entirety would make me feel a little less melancholy and sad than it usually does. I thought that since season 6 is underway that perhaps this time would be different.

It wasnt. In fact, the feelings were even more deeply felt.

I want so badly to get into season 6 and I know its early yet and something inside me tells me that its time to move on but wow, the memories of all that happened in the last season, not just on Idol but in my personal life, all the new people I have come to “know” here and from GC’s..its overwhelming.

To watch Taylor from the short clip where he is leaning against that brick building, alone, to the actual audition to the long harmonica stroll to Levon and onward to DIMYP, its like reading a novel and turning the pages. The changes he underwent, the criticism we all took from people who all thought we were nuts, the struggle to get him to the top. It took a toll on me I believe. It was worth it in the long run but it was still a toll.

As I read my words back to myself I hear how dramatic they sound but its the truth. For me, its the truth. A guy comes onto a talent show and changed my world…in a dramatic way. First by the music he brought with him, then to the TV show which I could NOT ignore then to GC’s, then to MJ’s then to the Go Phone, then to the Pop Tart Concert, back to MJ’s where I have met some unbelieveable and genuinely nice people and now…Im going to Boston with Donna where I will meet several people I have never seen, never heard but have a gut feeling that this is the right thing to do.

So yeah, I like Sundance’s voice a LOT but Im not feeling the love. least not yet for him and if I keep comparing him or anyone to Taylor, this is never going to work. So I have to find a way to not compare, its not fair to them and its not fair to me.

Something about Taylor Hicks and the people I have met along his journey which was also my journey that I will take with me to the grave. I can look back and see that it was a very very good year. A year in which I turned a big corner. I think its no coincidence that AI brought me Taylor who brought me the voice which brought me to all of you which brought me tons of laughter and fun which ultimately made a very bad time go by very fast.

So, Im gonna give it my best shot, this AI thing I mean and see where it takes me but I gotta feeling nothing will ever be the same again on AI. Not for me but I will watch.

    Sincerely,
    Peter Cottontail

  70. Sorry squishy. I don’t buy his cousin’s excuse.
What kid is going to turn down fame and fortune because he
feels things are moving too quickly. Right!

I agree with the others. He was asked to leave before he
got the boot, for whatever reason.

  71. Nola – I like the beanie pic too. Wonder if he borrowed it from Ace. I agree with you Metta about the closeup for the cover. Excitement mounts! Metta, do you think any less of me because I drink wine with my choir? :confused_wp:

  72. Kat:

What did Gray exactly write ?
I didn’t have a chance to read his post. I am curious.

  73. Bean, it was more the wording that Chris used. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Graciously stepped downà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Just for the record, Chris’s exact words were “gracefully bowing out” NOT “graciously stepped down.” I really think it was just too much, too soon for Jeremy.

  74. Metta, do you think any less of me because I dronk wine with my choir?

    lmao!

  75. Hahaha, I think every red-blooded man in America has a “thing” for Kat based on her looks. It’s when she opens her mouth that the problems begin. Besides, I think Gray’s original “monkey vs. robot” posts made his feelings clear, at least with regards to her musical stylings (or lack thereof).

Besides, how does that old expression go? “Beauty fades, but famewhoring is forever…”??

  76. NOLA, yesterday someone asked me if I knew any other Sundance fans and I couldnt remember straight away but Boulder had just posted something completely off topic sooooo, I just threw her name out there and said… Boulder is also a fan of his when in reality it was YOU who had mentioned earlier that you liked him as well.

  77. I have heard some silly damn excuses before. But this “too much too soon” thing is pretty much the MOST ridiculous. He was 21, not five.

he had a contract. there was a problem. the rest of this is an excuse.

Now, the real question is does it matter if J1 or J4 leaves daughtry? No. Not at all. Why? Because Daughtry is not a real band, never has been. Why was the cover blurred? Because these backing guys do not matter and are interchangeable. There will be a new guy, no one will care. They recorded none of the music. They were not part of the artistic process in any way. They are NOT A REAL BAND.

Therefore, it does not matter what J left or why. No one cares.

  78. Folk – Word!

Dingo – Great post above. Then, signing off with Peter Cottontail? lmao!

  79. Lu!!!!

Some of those photos of E are downright HANDSOME!!

    Yowzaaaa!

  80. yeah lisa…and the wig in the title. and the scissors in the bathroom. but the poster has not logged in in 6 days after posting it. if it was fake, you would thinkt hey would log in to check…

dingo…go watch the bride going nuts video.

  81. Folk,

About the video…I’m conflicted. I agree that the nervous laughter doesn’t really seem like acting but the girls were in a hotel room, no? What hotel room has a massive pair of scissors just lying about?

And is the “wigout” in the title a clue or is it just using a known phrase for having a meltdown? Hmmm.

  82. I have heard some silly damn excuses before. But this à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“too much too soonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ thing is pretty much the MOST ridiculous. He was 21, not five.

Folk, great post upthread. The too much too soon crap is just that….crap.

Whatsa matter? Too many lap dances for the 21 year old?

  83. Kat:

Lordie, those were my high school years!

Oh wow! The name “Roy Head” didn’t ring a bell, but I totally remember that song! And it’s pretty awesome. I love 60’s pop music. Love it.

  87. But if it’s real…what does that say about her friends? ‘Cause that’s a major catfight waiting to happen….

  88. J was asked to leave imo, the video was so staged and carefully scripted.

Good start to the tour, wonder how many will have been replaced by the end.

Maybe they should choose a different letter of the alphabet.

  89. LoveRollercoaster Jan 27th, 2007 at 10:39 am

    I grabbed it

    Yer a quick one arentchya.

Hmmmmm, it would be no surprise to see or hear that GC thought Katherine was a beauty, she is, especially when airbrushed but why would he have her photo?

Hang on while I make this phone call…555-MRS.GC..ring, ring, ring….hi there Mrs GC, could you tell me if Mr. GC has the hots for katherine and more importantly, does he like her music and MORE importantly, does he know she wears hair extensions? Thank you for your time.

  90. As for AI…count me unimpressed thus far. I am curious about Castro boy and Opera girl. I liked the background singer and didn’t care for Sundance b/c his goatee was just so…much…that I couldn’t get past it. Last season, I remember being impressed by Paris, Chris and Taylor during the audition process but that’s it. So time will tell what happens. I think the snippets are too short and too few to really get a good feel for anybody.

I have to disagree, Folk. They are a real band and Chris fans do care. Any change will impact the band but I do think Jeremy leaving at this point will have the least impact. The person they pick to replace him is very important because this band will be the one recording the next album imo. I can’t speak to the cover but it may be TPTB decided on it because they weren’t playing on the cd. From all I’ve heard from Chris, he’s thrilled to have a band instead of being a solo act. As far as most fans go (not us nutty AI5 fanatics, lol), I doubt they have any idea that this band didn’t record the album.

  92. Ah, thanks for the clarification, dingo!
As I’ve stated, though, I like the kid. I think he has a
lot of talent. Will he win? No. He’s too much like the
    winner from last season.

I truly believe TPTB will be searching for a male country
artist this season. They have all the other’s covered.
I think they now realize just how much can be made off of
    country music. They had Josh Gracin and Bucky Covington;
but failed the sign them. I hope Bucky makes a mint.

  93. MJ!!! OMG thank you for that vid of Sundance’s father!!! I remember that song tooooo!!!! Was that Shindig or Hullabaloo he was on? Oh this is too much.

OK, Im excited about Sundance again.

  94. stefynny….i bet, if it was real, that the wedding day only got worse and she majorly pissed off a bridesmaid (it has been known to happen) and this was revenge. if it was real.

  95. maracaibo…It was a little “Extra” post off to the side, titled “Robot Neglect.” There was a picture (someone here grabbed it and posted a link” of GC’s son’s “Monkey vs. Robot” drawing, with a picture of Kat’s CD booklet open to the page for the song “Neglected.”

  96. Now, the real question is does it matter if J1 or J4 leaves daughtry? No. Not at all. Why? Because Daughtry is not a real band, never has been. Why was the cover blurred? 97. The band is really about Chris any way.

The “band” is really about generic, mainstream music.

  98. bean…respectfully, a real band goes thru the artistic process together.

that cannot be said here. this is a manufactured group of men….of whom only chris is truly important.

  99. I hope Bucky makes a mint.

Me tooooo NOLA and I believe that he will. I also agree with you. They are not fools, they see that country music is where its happening today. Unless Sundance can show another side to him, I agree, he wont win.

Im curious about this video everyone is talking about. Could someone, anyone point me in the right direction?

  100. The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is really about generic, mainstream music.

Who knows and who really cares. I agree with Folk. The band is really about Chris any way.

    ****

Oh yeah, I forgot. Chris is the only member of DAUGHTRY.
How silly of me to have forgotten that. WHAT BAND?

  102. Here ya go DINGO…

This is a video of a bride going nuts about her hair pre-wedding. Is it real or fake? no clue…could go either way…

have to sit thru a min or so of stupid banter pre-bride entry…

    BRIDE GOES NUTSO

  103. folk – The funniest part of the video is when her friend tries to convince her that her hair looks good by helpfully suggesting that it resembles Shirley Temple. lmao!

  104. Generic, mainstream music that the *mainstream* is buying quite a bit of.

Which has nothing to do with creativity or musical integrity.

  105. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris’s band doesn’t goes through several incarnations before it is stable and definably “Daughtry”. After the new tour and before the 2nd album (which I assume will happen), there will probably be a purging or refocusing just to make sure everyone is still on board. As much as I like Chris, I have to agree with Folk…bands are usually put together b/c of a commonality, i.e., the Fray were all friends in high school, U2 were friends way back when in Ireland, etc. That’s not to say that the Daughtry band can’t become that…it can but the commonality and cohesiveness make take more time/effort to build.

  106. If they were acting, the “bridesmaids” were more convincing than the “bride.” She was a bit over-the-top.

  107. Which has nothing to do with creativity or musical integrity.

And how do you define “musical integrity?”

  108. Bean99,

DAUGHTRY isn’t really any different from Bon Jovi in how the band got started. Bon Jovi was a band made up by the record company in order to showcase Jon Bon Jovi. They just happened to stay together for more than 2 decades which is remarkable in itself. They grew into a real band in time. I expect the same thing to happen to DAUGHTRY.

The only thing different with DAUGHTRY and Bon Jovi is that the current band members of DAUGHTRY did not record on this last CD but will on the next CD. I do not know if the band member of Bon Jovi recorded on the first Bon Jovi album. They may not have since the band was manufactured.

After seeing DAUGHTRY live 3 times, DAUGHTRY the band is MUCH better than the CD since they put their heart and soul in to the performance.

  109. Did ya’ll see Taylor’s Top 10 picks on Rhapsody.com? If not here is their celebrity list:

    http://www.rhapsody.com/playlistcentral/playlistdetail?playlistId=13208266

Also, posted last night and I don’t see the whole thing here but this is the complete Billboard Review of Just To Feel That Way!

    ARTIST: TAYLOR HICKS

SINGLE: JUST TO FEEL THAT WAY

Is Taylor Hicks the latest “American Idol” to realize that the quickest path to fame and fortune is country, instead of the wall of steel presented by top 40? Seems that way, based on second Southern rock single “Just to Feel That Way.” Granted, first single “Do I Make You Proud” was as formulaic as they come, in the typical mold of “AI” debuts. And on “Just to Feel That Way,” he emits a powerhouse vocal that goes from coarse growl to cool-guy sensitivity; in fact, it is more convincing than most anything he sang on the show.

I have a freezer full of crow for Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s naysayers. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll pass out microwave ovens, to boot, to help it go down better.

Why frozen, you ask. Well, I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say it would not take awhile, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll get there, and the crow will be fresh and ready. LOL

    AMEN-loving this

Dingo, you are so good with words. I loved this whole post, especially this: A guy comes onto a talent show and changed my worldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦in a dramatic way. I can’t like SUNDANCE because Simon said he blew Taylor out of the water and Randy said he sang circles around Taylor. If he wins, Simon and Randy will be cockier then ever. They can shave the goatee but they can’t erase those words. HE MUST LOSE!

  111. The bride’s screech at the end resembled my 4 y/o when she’s having a world-class temper tantrum. Eardrum killer. I can’t see getting that enraged about a hair style. I mean really.

  112. And how do you define à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“musical integrity?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I don’t equate it with disposable band members who were hired for their looks.

But hey, Clive’s happy. You can hang your hat on that, if nothing else.

  113. That is an odd way to phrase it. Maybe Chris was trying to be fancy.

I guess it’s better than saying I kicked his A$$ to the curb.. He should have said that Jeremy “bowed out” of the band. “Step down” make it sound as if he had a prominent position. We all know he did not. Especailly, since he did not get much spotlight to begin with..

Okay, I am going out on my limb again. I feel with all this instant success hitting Chris so fast, it won’t be long before he ditches the boy band and go solo ala Beyonce…Just like Michelle and Kelly from Destiny Child, Chris band mates are nothing more than props to help him earn some rockband cred, IMO. When he realizes all the money he could be pocketing instead of having to slit it, it will be the four “j” who.. It would not be too hard. It did not appear as if Chris was that close to his original bandmates who he supposedly knew longer. So, I doubt there would be any love lost.

Elliott looks like Daniel Powter in some of those pictures….

  114. really great bands lose members after less than two months. it is the in thing to do.

  115. GRIZ I have a yes. com question. What is the screen that shows the spins, supposed to look like. I get a screen that is totally blank on the right. On the left is Artist View (with Tay’s name) and some other info. Is that right?

ETA – Paula – what does the screen look like? I don’t see anything about dimyp.

  116. Metta…maybe not about the band itself but the music (even if not your cup of tea) is real and heartfelt and I can’t see what lacks in integrity there.

  117. Well!

That was some video now wasnt it.

I thought it was real but had a little doubt at the very end when I thought it looked a little like a wig.

IF it was a real video, that girl needs serious psychological help.

I’m with folk on this one. He has a very good, very strong voice, but I’m not thinking he will make the final two.

  119. I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be surprised if Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s band doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t goes through several incarnations before it is stable and definably à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter – Chris’ lifespan in his pseudo bland and unoriginal rock band has a lifespan of maybe 2-3 years, just like every other disposal pseudo rock band before them. I remember back in the 80s, their were a TON of “hair” bands as they were called selling off the charts for a span of a few years (I guess today they’re called bald bands? LOL!). Just a matter of time as to when the “wind” changes, musically and they fade away in to distant memory.

  120. Paula Jan 27th, 2007 at 11:24 am

How do you vote at yes.com? DIMYP just played in Las Vegas.

Why the fuck is DIMYP playing ANYWHERE?

Folk, thanks for the video URL.

  121. Mediabase now has DAUGHTRY’S “It’s Not Over” at number 9 which is great. Although, INO is at # 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Pop charts, it is mediabase which looks how often a single is played.

Thus it does appear that INO is a true Top 10 hit.

I predict that “Home” will be number 1 and Chris may get a total of 3-5 Top 10 hits from the album.

  122. Eh, I think the bride thing is fake, if only because the video camera remained on while that crazy person was wielding a pair of scissors.

That Roy Head video was awesome – he was very bendy.

  123. Metta – go to yes.com now, and type n Taylor’s name and you’ll see a showing of DIMYP – do you see that?

  124. Griz…time will tell but I agree, there are a lot of one-hit wonder bands out there…particularly from the 80s. But I love 80s radio ’cause it’s just so cheesy/corny and fun.

Speaking of…what is Cyndi Lauper up to these days? And is New Order still around?

  125. HE MUST LOSE!

    LMAO WhatdISay!

    Sundance MUST go down!

    Allen, thanks for that video.

  126. you know squish…

    WHO THE HELL CARES???

I mean seriously….it is season 6. we do not need to hourly chart position of daughtry.

further, the more important daughtry story is he could not even keep his “band” together for two straight months.

    which, btw, is ridiculous.

  127. griz – I don’t. And now I wonder if it’s because I’m in Canada. This happens sometimes online. I couldn’t access the VH1 streaming of his CD when it first came out either.

  128. NOLA, thanks for the link of Roy Head, that was awesome, lmao. Man, Simon would’ve hated that man with those moves. “It’s all about the singing,” he would say until next week when it will totally be about some other damned thing like big boobs, dresses bursting open, and warbling rock stars.

Emeraldgem, thanks for posting the link to The Right Place. I think GC had that up for a while but I enjoyed seeing it again. In that version his falsetto is a little breathy and sounds oh-so-sexy.

I am thrilled with Taylor’s Billboard review! Now if only Gray’s Anatomy or Boston Legal would incorporate it into their show, sigh, I keep hoping.A gig on Saturday Night Live would be awesome too.

  129. Metta – perhaps because you’re in Canada they will only show spins IN Canada? That’s what I think… hmmm.

  130. squishy: DAUGHTRY isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really any different from Bon Jovi in how the band got started. Bon Jovi was a band made up by the record company in order to showcase Jon Bon Jovi.

That is SO not true. Here is the history according to wiki:

“The soon-to-be-members of the band had crossed paths in their earlier days, but the current lineup didn’t come together until March of 1983. Bon Jovi gave David Bryan a call, who in turn called bassist Alec John Such and experienced drummer Tico Torres.

Tapped to play lead guitar was Bon Jovi’s neighbor, Dave Sabo (a.k.a. The Snake), who would later form the group Skid Row. One night after a show, Richie Sambora found Bon Jovi backstage and told him that he should be the guitarist. Bon Jovi wrote him off and didn’t think much of it but told him to learn the material and show up for rehearsal. Sambora was early and knew the material and Bon Jovi was impressed; in that moment, Sambora became the band’s lead guitarist and a musical dynamic duo was born

Atlantic and Mercury came calling. Once Bon Jovi had put together his band and began playing showcases and opening for local talent, they caught the attention of record executive Derek Shulman, who signed John to Mercury Records, part of the PolyGram company. ”

So, Bon Jovi, the band, formed before they were signed and they did all play on their debut album.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Jovi

  131. Metta — Just leave yes.com in a separate window, and keep it there all day. Check every now and then, and you’ll see any songs of Taylor’s that were played, where and what time. Not all stations are on this site, and I don’t know how many are. If you don’t refresh the page, the songs will stay there for hours — at least they do on my computer. I still want to know how to vote though.

  132. The only thing different with DAUGHTRY and Bon Jovi is that the current band members of DAUGHTRY did not record on this last CD but will on the next CD. I do not know if the band member of Bon Jovi recorded on the first Bon Jovi album. They may not have since the band was manufactured.

Sambora did co-write 4 songs with jon bon on their debut album.

  133. is daughtry maybe more like the wiggles…or did they form before recording too?

  134. griz and paula – Thanks for your help. griz, i think you’re right. I’ll only see Canada spins.

  135. Shar, if taylor could pick up just ONE spin on Grey’s Anatomy, that would be something that would catapult his sales.

  138. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know why Jeremy à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“stepped downà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but according to his cousin who talked about it on another site, it was a little too fast and too soon for him (DAUGHTRY # 1 album, INO climbing charts at # 6, a 3 month tour coming up with another BIGGER tour scheduled for the Fall) plus he wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sure he wanted to be a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rockstarà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

Squishy, wasn’t you the one boasting about how experienced Chris’s bandmates were when the boy band label was being attached to his band. Now, that Chris has kicked one of the members to the curb, the guy was too young and inexperienced. I am seriously getting dizzy from all the double talk. Where Chris’s cd sits on a chart should not be any reason to quit a band. It’s not like Chris and his band is all of a sudden on this wirlwind adventure. This should be this guy’s moment to shine. Why would he feel pressured because of a few cds selling. Especially since he was suppose to be SO experienced.

It sounds more like a battle of the egos or drugs..

  139. The only reason, IMO, that they stuck a band behind daughtry is
because he doesn’t have enough personality as a solo artist to
do a solo tour. After all, the songs all sound alike. People
would be asking for their money back if they had to watch the
short, bald adam’s apple for 2 straight hours. At least the young
girls can ogle at the band behind the apple.

  140. folk: is daughtry maybe more like the wigglesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦or did they form before recording too?

Sorry, folk, The Wiggles are more legit than Daughtry. They formed themselves.

Two of the original members were part of a pub rock band and one of them joined an early childhood education program where he met the other members of the band. They just started the group as part of a study project and then decided to try to work towards a recording contract.

  141. Hey just got back from skating.

kat, I’m sure that you would want to meet a guy that can bend like roy head for the same reasons I do. :devil_tb:

On the comparison between Jon Bon Jovi and Chris Daughtry, Jon Bon Jovi has one of the best voices ever, enough said.

I just want to know are we all still sober or were there any other spins?

  142. Peoplewould be asking for their money back if they had to watch theshort, bald adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s apple for 2 straight hours. At least the young girls can ogle at the band behind the apple.

Sorry, folk, The Wiggles are more legit than Daughtry. They formed themselves.

Tears are rolling down my cheeks! Dying over here!!!

  143. Names of bands that got their start similar to DAUGHTRY: N’ Sync, The Back Street Boys

  144. A spin of JTFTW or PIB on Grey’s Anatomy would be fitting, I think.
Two marriage proposals last week and from previews, a lot of pondering, pondering for the answers. Should be good for the next couple of weeks. Get Taylor’s music on that show! Email campaign is in my future.

  145. Who knows and who really cares. I agree with Folk. The band is really about Chris any way.

No truer words have been spoken.. We already knew that but it’s not a fact unless it comes from you.

really great bands lose members after less than two months. it is the in thing to do.

Hey, look at it this way. It’s another record that he has broken.. :lol_tb:

Maybe we can take bets to see how long the remaining band members will be replaced. I say before the year is up Chris will have an entirely new band or just go solo..

  146. JJ – I think DIMYP got a spin this morning. See Paulaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s post above.

One spin does not a drunk make, therefore I assume we are sober

  147. That is just the “spin” that the record company wants to have out there on how Bon Jovi started. It really was a manufactured band to showcase Jon Bon Jovi.

RCA had a similar press “info” on how Chris chose his band members and such which is a bunch of bull.

  148. JJ: Names of bands that got their start similar to DAUGHTRY: Nà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Sync, The Back Street Boys

Similar, but not the same. Those groups were formed before the debut album was recorded and all the members performed on the debut album.

I’ve been searching for some band that was formed after the debut album was recorded, but no luck. I thought maybe Boney-M, but, despite frequent changes over the years, there was a group called Boney-M which performed on the debut album. The Monkees also formed before their debut album and recorded on it.

Even freakin’ Milli Vanilli formed before the album was recorded (the two frontmen were picked before the debut album was recorded).

  149. keep telling yourself that squishy.

cause um…..bon jovi actually recorded their album….ya know….ummm…together.

  150. this is good trivia then. has there ever been another BAND formed after the bands album was recorded?

    hmmm….

  151. squishy: That is just the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“spinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ that the record company wants to have out there on how Bon Jovi started. It really was a manufactured band to showcase Jon Bon Jovi.

    Cite?

squishy: RCA had a similar press à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“infoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on how Chris chose his band members and such which is a bunch of bull.

Have they been claiming that Chris was neighbours with one bandmate and met another bandmate backstage after a performance? I’ve not seen these press articles. And, if they are falsely claiming that the band formed before the debut album and recorded on it…I think that we are going to see another Milli Vanilli type meltdown in the future when the “Tall Poppies Syndrome” kicks in.

  152. the closest i can come is all the problems with destinys child…but even then…didn’t the original group form first, then record, and then the replacements came?

  153. Isn’t putting together boy bands what Simon did back in London before AI?

If Daughtry wrote Home because he was missing his family on the short AI tour, what happens if he goes on a real tour? Some hard ass rocker, lmao.Oh boo hoo, I want to go home.

  155. NOLA Jan 27th, 2007 at 11:39 am

The only reason, IMO, that they stuck a band behind daughtry is
because he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have enough personality as a solo artist to
do a solo tour. After all, the songs all sound alike. People
would be asking for their money back if they had to watch the
short, bald adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s apple for 2 straight hours. At least the young
girls can ogle at the band behind the apple.

NOLA, you get an “A” for that one. Thats so true. Time will tell I guess but Daughtry NEEDS a band. He is not a solo artist. He is a band artist. He needs them and they need him.

  156. Squishy – please don’t compare Chris to Bon Jovi – Bon Jovi has proven it’s longevity in the business and is really an organic band, each contributing to their hit making sound. Richie Sambora is one of the best lead guitarists out there and and penned some of the bands biggest hits together with Jon. They are a band in every sense of the word – playing on each and every album they ever put out.

Chris’ band was put together much like The Monkees (and you all know I LOVE The Monkees) – but they were manufactured – put together by TPTB – to create a pseudo band.

Chris has YET to prove ANYTHING about his longevity and staying power. Again, my guess is 2-3 years in the spot-light, being they are as unoriginal as they come. Unoriginal bands fly in and out like the wind – unfortunately, when the wind changes, the act disappears.

  157. I’ve decided to disrupt my busy schedule of sitting and doing nothing by looking at the daily chat posts, hoping that the page reloads quickly today, and that there are interesting topics to discuss.

  158. I guess at the end of the day what matters to the record company is “units” and Chris is definitely selling those. The DAUGHTRY CD is still #1 on the Billboard charts. “It’s Not Over” is #6 on the Billboard charts, #2 on iTunes, and is the #1 video on VH-1 Top 20 Countdown.

Changes in the band may only affect the tour and future CDs.

  159. That is just the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“spinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ that the record company wants to have out there on how Bon Jovi started. It really was a manufactured band to showcase Jon Bon Jovi.

Ohhhh squishy. You better not venture onto the political boards cause they’ll eat you alive. you say something and state it as FACT, you better be able to back that up with legitimate sources.

  160. Chris’ band and music is, unfortunately, generational. He will make a killing for a year or two most, then disappear. This is the way it is with all rock bands unless they impact the culture, which is very rare anymore. The only way Chris will have any longevity is if he goes out on his own without a band, and becomes an ‘artist’.

  161. true squish. good to know you could care less about artistic integrity. clive would like you.

now, the real way to tell daughtry is NOT a band…a platinum sellign, hot new artist, daughtry, has a band member quit within two months of album release…

AND THERE IS NOT A SINGLE NEWS ITEM ABOUT IT.

Now…elliott hurt his finger throwing a rock and it made ET.

  162. NOLA, you get an à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Aà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ for that one. Thats so true. Time will tell I guess but Daughtry NEEDS a band. He is not a solo artist. He is a band artist. He needs them and they need him.

I disagree. I think that Katherine can sell her looks and she has a very good voice given the right song. I think radio will love her for a lot of reasons not the least being that she will appeal to a large age group and men will love her looks especially if she continues to give this slightly trashy, vampy vibe.

Chris on the other hand cant stand up there alone. He doesnt have the great looks, he has the personality and stage presence of a gnat and is positively uninteresting without the band thing going on. With the band he remains successful for a while till people tire of the same 4 notes.

Keep trying. Destiny’s Child was a group before they were signed:

“They spent the next few years working their way up from the Houston club scene, eventually opening for popular R&B artists like SWV, Dru Hill, and Immature. In 1995, Destiny’s Child signed with Elektra Records but got dropped. In 1997, Destiny’s Child was offered a recording contract by Columbia Records.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny's_Child

I think I’m getting close to finding a band that formed after the recording. The Archies. Their first hit single was recorded by two of the band members for a fictional band in a cartoon show. But, then, nobody ever seriously believed the songs produced under the name of “The Archies” was ever anything more than studio musicians providing voices for cartoon characters, so I’m not sure if they can be called a band.

  175. huh, things are a little rough here this morning.

The horse is out of the barn with DAUGHTRY — he is a success at this point and will likely remain a success for years to come. The DAUGHTRY brand will grow with or without Jerimy.

Taylor’s success is still a question mark for me. I don’t care for his album, and I also don’t think it reflects who Taylor is musically. Better albums are sure to come. 19E is really screwing things up right now for Taylor.

Elliott looks fab-u-lous in the new pics. I cannot wait to hear his first single and then his album. He may never have the commercial success of other idols, but I’ll wager his album will be among the very best and will earn him cred in the music world. I have to laugh when I see him marketed with KORN.

My gut reaction to Sundance is that he’s good — really good — but I’ll need to hear more than 10 seconds before I even begin to predict how successful he’ll be! Seeing his dad’s video was fun!!

  176. ok…so i am at the local convenience store last night….getting cat food….cause, well, i forgot and the cat was hungry. and this kid…maybe 19, maybe 20…is in front of me buying Hustler. Honest to god if he was not counting out ten bucks in CHANGE…and i think he was a bit tipsy, so it took awhile…i thought i was going to die laughing…i mean he had pennies scrouged up…and then he was 20 cents short…the poor clerk was like “just take it and go”

  177. One thing that HAS happened with singers in bands is that the band helps them develop as an artist, and they can eventually go on to a successful solo career, but that is rare. Only time will tell if Chris is able to do this. His voice is good for a specific style of music, and Clive is able to market him easily because it’s easy to market. Rock music … simple. Soul music? Not so much. In terms of longevity, however, artistry outweighs fads. Unless Chris can breakout on his own, Taylor will have the longevity, Chris will have the spot in the memories of high schoolers that grow up ten years from now and have their reunions. “Dude, remember Daughtry? They rocked! Whatever happened to them?”

  178. Daisy,

The guy who is leaving the band for what ever the reasons’ name is Jeremy and he is the youngest member of the band at 21 years of age. He is the 2nd guitarist.

Lead singer front and center and band member’s almost non-exsistant in the back as if they’re were an after thought.. Can we say Nickleback once again.

  182. Chris better hurry up and find his new faux band member soon – aren’t they hitting the bar circuit soon?

Strange such a dynamo ‘band’ is booking little bars, eh? Something not right about this picture.

  183. Folk – lol. That reminds me of one summer when I was in high school, I worked as a cashier at a convenience store. The porn mags they carried were ten degrees raunchier than hustler. This guy circled my cash register like three times before he worked up the courage to set it down. He was BRIGHT red, dying of embarrassment. 184. HS,

I agree that it appears that the DAUGHTRY CD is a success in terms of sales and will continue to be a success in terms of sales in 2007 but there is a question mark as you put it around Taylor’s CD in terms of sales.

Has the words “musical integrity” ever entered your consciousness, Squishy? I won’t mention that like Chris, Britney Spears and New Kids on the Block have moved a LOT of units in their time. They have something in common besides “units sold” – they both don’t have a SINGLE original bone in their body.

How sad – how totally SAD, that the music comes secondary to these fly by night, copy-kat music acts.

  196. Since Chris wrote 3 of the songs on his album and co-wrote the rest of them except for 2, I definitely think that Chris has musical integrity.

I think that Chris’ “Home” whether or not it will be used as Season 6’s exit song will be the biggest selling single from the album and will be a multi-format hit including on Country radio. The fact that he wrote it completely himself, I give him props!

  197. Has anyone seen any of the following movies: The Painted Veil, The Queen, or The Last King of Scotland? I’m trying to decide which to see this weekend.

  198. I fixed it, it’s early here in vegas. Another pop group that broke up like Destiny’s child 3LW, three girl pop singers, one left, they replaced her, album sales tanked, and the two original members became 2/3 of…………..The Cheetah Girls………………….

  199. For those who haven’t seen the picture – while Taylor was at a Lakers game last week, he accidently ran across a picture of himself performing from the AI tour hanging on the wall at the Staples Center. I think it’s great that the PTB singled out Taylor to honor him that way. What a moment that must have been for him. The picture is hung, from what I understand, near the very expensive seating area for VIPs and whatnot.

My bad if I didn’t get it. :(

  201. While I am happy for Chris fans that his cd has done so well, I think it’s a wee bit too soon to start comparing him to Bon Jovi.

As for Taylor, I personally am not freaked out by his sales. I think he has done great. He has had the chance to play with many artists he has admired through his years growing up, he has earned their respect as a musician. As long as he gets to keep making music for me to purchase and tours for me to go see, I’ll be a happy Taylor fan. Will he ever be multiplatinum? I don’t know, I don’t care..I just want him to still be around :)

  202. The ONLY difference between Chris and Taylor is that Chris copies current music and Taylor copies old music.

They are both copiers just of different styles. Taylor is not original either.

No one coming from AI has been quite original except for maybe Fantasia, and I don’t like her.

If someone was truly an original, they probably wouldn’t have been selected for AI in the first place.

  207. XO, I am not a Kat fan but I am happy for you that her cd is coming next week. You have certainly been a loyal fan.

My son managess a small book store in San Francisco. He told me a group brought in a poster and some photos of Kat’s album cover on the front and a black and white close up of her face from the cover on the back of the picture. The store doesn’t sell c/d’s,lol,but whatever I guess.

Anyway, I hope you have a happy Kat day next Tuesday!

  208. Whoo! Everyone has gotten to a roaring start this morning!

–Daddy Head. Cool and good looking. Son Head. Good voice, boring and unattractive. We shall see what becomes of him. I do not see Sundance generating the buzz Taylor did. I see him more like Matt Rogers from season 2.

–Chrà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦uh DAUGHTRYà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ The band is immaterial. I predict numerous personnel changes down the road, but it will matter very little. The one selling the albums is Chris. Not DAUGHTRY.
Griz. I feel the same way. When one rides the wave of what is currently popular and sounds EXACTLY like what is currently popular, it will fade over time unless the person changes, grows, and produces some unique music. The only one I see following this model right now is Kelly Clarkson. Chris may become an artist of great renown down the road, but I sure don’t hear it in this first album.

–OOO à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ For the longest time I thought this meant not only was Chris a big zero, but THREE big zeros. Later learned those were the letter à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and they stood for something else.

–Anyone see the good-looking British ex-boy band guy who is generating a lot of buzz? His name is Tom Lowe and they did not show his audition but he was passed through and there are rumors he is top 24. He is quite good looking and has a terrific voice. He is sort of a been-there-done-that guy and I sort of liked his vibe.

–Oooohh. Elliot! Looking GOOD!! I love the long, dark curls, sugar!

–Will pound a bit on Taylor, too. I have said before and say again, and hope I am proved wrong, that nothing from that album will be a hit single. Doesn’t mean I don’t like a lot of the songs, I just do not see them appealing to the mass radio market.

–Lastly. Has anyone seen the latest TV Guide??? Taylor has officially been erased from the Birmingham winners and been replaced by Chris Daughtry. It is there in black and white, under the Tuesday show summaries. I kid you not.

  209. xo, if you want to make that argument about Taylor, than Fantasia wasn’t original either her style comes from the old school soul singers like Aretha, Etta, Anita ans so on.

The ONLY difference between Chris and Taylor is that Chris copies current music and Taylor copies old music.

This is an interesting statement! They both are very talented. Actually, the entire top 10 are very talented.

  211. Metta, its too freaking cold here for me to venture out at ALL but I love the sound of The Last Kinf of Scotland but then Im a very big Braveheart fan. Its almost an obsession I have with that movie.

  212. Since Chris wrote 3 of the songs on his album and co-wrote the rest of them except for 2, I definitely think that Chris has musical integrity.

Writing your own music does not musical integrigy make. After all, Kat co-wrote “Open Toes,” and, well…yeah.

That being said I think it’s a little early to judge Chris on his musical integrity. This first CD is completely derivative and unoriginal, but it is a first CD. Who knows, maybe Chris wants to do something edgier and rawer, but Clive dictated Nickelback because it was a surefire sell. You never know.

The ONLY difference between Chris and Taylor is that Chris copies current music and Taylor copies old music.

They are both copiers just of different styles. Taylor is not original either.

Out of curiosity, xo, have you heard any of Taylor’s original music? I think his originals from “In Your Time” are absolutely wonderful. Yes, he’s influenced by old styles, and to an extent every artist is derivative, but to simply say “Taylor just copies old music” is just not true. (Just like I haven’t heard Chris’s stuff with his old band so I can’t pass judgement on that–I can only judge the new CD.)

No one coming from AI has been quite original except for maybe Fantasia, and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like her.

Out of curiosity again, did you like Carrie?

  213. The ONLY difference between Chris and Taylor is that Chris copies current music and Taylor copies old music.

Not True. If you have educated yourself about Taylor’s original music (and I assume that’s what you’re talking about), there’s NOTHING about his original songs that copies anything from the past, sound wise. You can be “influenced” by past genres, but not “sound” like them, which is the case with Taylor.

Tell us what music from the past Hell of a Day or The Deal or Somehow, or Soul Thing sounds like, xo… I’d be mighty interested to hear your take on this ;)

On the other hand, EVERYTHING Chris has written sounds like something already on the current air-waves. BIG difference.

  214. But Dingo, can I still have an oreo for trying? Seriously, the words kind of reminded me of the relationship you and Mr. Dingo had, and while I really don’t buy the soul mate thing, you and the Mr. proved to me that maybe the soul mate thing is true, and from what you have posted I know that if me and Mr. Vegas have a 1/4 of what you and Mr. Dingo had we are going to be alright.

  215. Here is Saturday’s topic for the day from Dingo.

What 2 movies have you enjoyed so much that you watched, in its entirety, at LEAST 3 times.

Only TWO. Thats the hard part.

    Here are mine.

    Scarface with Pacino
    Braveheart with Gibson.

I could have named at LEAST 5 others but after serious thinking, I believe these to be the 2 that I have nearly worn both the DVD’s as well as the tapes out on.

  216. Folks,

I saw this review at Amazon of Taylor’s CD and I thought I’d like to share it with you ( especially the ladies in this forum ).

I’ve actually never heard someone say something quite like it before.

    ——————————–

I guess that’s why almost ALL the positive commenters are women. EVERY song on the new CD is a love song — every single one. I think most of Taylor’s male audience have a difficult time “participating” in the emotions of Taylor singing lyrics filled with “I can’t breathe without you” sentiment.

I think if Taylor continues down this path, he will alienate his male audience — and I don’t think the 30+ female audience is a strong enough demographic to support major label support. I think if Taylor wants to remain commercially viable he needs to look at other male artists through the years: Elton John, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Elvis (and even the King, one of the biggest sex symbols of all time didn’t sing love songs ALL the time). He doesn’t have to imitate anyone’s musical style, but he does need to create great music… which means write songs that tell great stories or share human experiences which have an appeal that crosses race, gender and age boundaries.

The present CD is clearly targeting a female audience. I think that is a “commercial” mistake.

    ————————

I think the poster did not reckon such songs as — GONNA MOVE, SOUL THING, JUST TO FEEL THAT WAY and HELL OF A DAY are actually GENDER NEUTRAL.

He also forgets that Joe Cocker’s most memorable hit — YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL — is a love song.

But he’s right in one sense — songs have to capture more about human experience than simply love between a man and woman. That’ll be Taylor’s next challenge.

A lot of Taylor’s original compositions are autobiographical — they talk about long distance love, life on the road and broken relationships because of this kind of life.

  217. Thanks Shar, I’m definitely excited… I haven’t listened to the whole album yet so I have a bit of a surprise Tuesday. I’ve waited a long time and I’m very happy for me and for Kat!

  218. Dee, for your effort, you get the entire bag of Oreos. if I might ask? Are you a youngun? meaning are you in your 20’s or early 30’s?

  219. So Squishy, you’re saying that Jon Bon jovi had already recorded his cd and was just waiting for his record company to glue him and his band member together? I find that a bit hard to believe. Especially since he, himself said that a couple of the guys were his childhood friends.

Kristin, Destiny Child was form to help support Beyonce, IMO. It was always about Beyonce. When you have a group where one of the member mother and father is practically running the show. It’s clear whose best interest is being served. If you take a look at any of Destiny’s Child previous cds, the most if not all of the vocal credit was given to Beyonce. She sang both front and background vocals on almost all of the Destiny’s Child songs. That’s why it was so easy for them to remove and replace the members so easily. I was quite surprised…

On the more current cds, Beyonce and her sister share vocal credits but she did Michelle and Kelly executive producing credits. I don’t know what that means. I remembered wondering if Michelle and Kelly was ever in the studio. Beyonce’s name was all over the cds.

Mediabase now has DAUGHTRYà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢S à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Not Overà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ at number 9 which is great. Although, INO is at # 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Pop charts, it is mediabase which looks how often a single is played.

Thus it does appear that INO is a true Top 10 hit.

I predict that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ will be number 1 and Chris may get a total of 3-5 Top 10 hits from the album.

    ———————————————

    Squishy!

Thanks so MUCH for posting these updates. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the news you bring. It’s an important function on this board, and I can speak for all my friends here, you know who I’m talkin’ about, who secretly are thankful to be kept in the loop.

Isn’t it great that Chris is doing so well??? I couldn’t be happier for him, and to happen to such an incredibly gifted artist and a wonderful man.

    Come on everyone, CHEERS!

  223. Oh, and Home Alone 3 — I’ve probably seen that one more than a dozen times because it was my son’s favorite. He knew the entire script.

  224. Griz, standing ovation……On a different note I was listening to the radio, top 40 rythmic, and p diddy has a new song with keisha cole, and it has a similar style to guess what Give Me Tonight….I maybe wrong though. As far as Taylor is concerned I give him mad respect because of the Vibe article, I used to read Vibe in college and well it is quite an achievement that he was profiled so beautifully in Vibe. That is a huge honor, units be damned.

  225. What 2 movies have you enjoyed so much that you watched, in its entirety, at LEAST 3 times.

    ******

    Gone With The Wind
    Jaws

  226. In regards to the Destiny’s Child talk…I personally always liked Kelly’s voice better. I liked a couple songs that I heard from her solo cd and I liked her duet with Nelly “Dilemma”
I do find myself liking Beyonce’s Irreplaceable though.

  227. hs, I have not seen pride and Prejudice yet. I just wrote it down. Thanks.

  228. It’s FUNNY how ‘some people’ can’t argue muscial integrity, band unity and contribution and originality from Chris, so in defense, they whip out numbers! LOL… how sad, honestly. Tell us something INTERESTING about Chris musically, people! Lay it on me!

  229. Here’s a review of Taylor Hicks’ CD from a family friendly site called — COMMONSENSEMEDIA.ORG

    http://www.commonsensemedia.org/music-reviews/Taylor-Hicks.html

    Artist: Taylor Hicks
Genre: Rock Label: Arista Parental Advisory: No Edited Version Available

    Release Date:12/12/2006

    Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that Taylor Hicks delivers a collection of pleasant, derivative, and exceptionally well-performed songs with no objectionable content.

Families can talk about Taylor’s real-life band experience before becoming an American Idol winner. Did his years playing for live audiences affect his sound? Can you hear the difference between Taylor’s music and that of other winners who sing over slick karaoke-like tracks?

    Common Sense Review

Reviewed By: Kathi Kamen GoldmarkAny parent who has ever been in a band can use American Idol winner Taylor Hicks’ major label debut to segue into stories about those crazy good old days as a rock star in college. Then, when your kids’ eyes glaze over, you can sit back and enjoy this honest, listener-friendly contribution to the Idol alumni oeuvres.

Taylor Hicks distinguishes himself from other winners with a voice reminiscent of soul singer Michael McDonald mixed with a dash of Bob Seger and a musical sensibility that comes from years of real playing in real bands that can’t be faked. Instead of acrobatic power-singing over slick, overproduced tracks, Taylor’s understated presentation allows these well-crafted tunes some breathing room.

OK, so maybe he’s not the most inventive songwriter in the world — his originals sound a lot like the covers, paying generous tribute to Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles. Derivative, yes, but what better inspiration than classic soul for honing your songwriting skills? Lyrical themes stay mostly in the love and heartbreak realm, as this self-described world-weary songster falls, picks himself up, and dusts himself off with lyrics such as “We’ll break it all open/Finding our way/We might end up broken and wounded/But baby it’s worth it for even one day/Just to feel that way.”

The end result is a collection of comfortable blue-eyed soul, performed by a guy who’s clocked some real-life hours on stage. Taylor Hicks has been around the block a few times, and it shows.

Fans of Taylor Hicks will also like Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Michael McDonald, Bob Seger, Ruben Studdard, and American Idol: Season 5: Encores.

  230. Yes, Kat I love Carrie- however she is not really original. She’s a great singer and she’s due every respect that she’s given but I wouldn’t call her original.

Original is the Beatles, Elvis, George Jones, Marty Robbins, etc. People who do something that has never been heard before.

While I immensely respect Carrie’s talent the music that she sings has been done before.

And Metta I never said Kat was original. She has a unique and wonderful voice but her music is not original.

  231. dingo, its an incredibly gentle movie compared to Scarface and Braveheart!!! Braveheart — I walked away before it was over. The end is just too much for me.

  232. WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ NUMBERS!!!!!!!
That’s why MJ has a link to them, so that we
don’t have to endure them day in and day out.

  233. NOLA, I have watched GWtW many times as well but I have an obsessive personality so when I love a movie I tend to watch it over and over and over again. Thats why I limited it ti the 2 movies you most enjoyed and have watched over.

Both your selections are great and I have seen both several times as well. Thanks for your participation lol.

    Saturday Night Fever
    The Graduate
    Midnight Cowboy

Griz, you get an F for failing to follow directions dammit.

TWO movies. Now pick the TWO that you have watched the most.

SNF would have been on my list as well just not at the top.

  234. I’d also like to add that Common Sense Media Rated Taylor’s CD 4 out of 5 stars.

  235. This is bordering on obsession. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s getting scary.

It seems no different than this which was posted up thread a bit:

    My Hourly Google Update:

    Hicks – 2,010,000

    Daughtry – 1,350,000

    !

    Just sayinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦the obsession can hit all people and all fansà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    ————

Now Stefunny – that was my one and only post re: google so don’t go using me as an example or I’ll keep it up~!

  236. margie, don’t know if anyone answered

Operation OutSell Outlast (or something similar) run by squishy to up Daughtry CD sales.

  237. Dingo, I’m 28 going on 29. I was into rap big time late 80’s until early 2000. I loved Nas, Tupac, Biggie, WuTang, old Outkast….etc. I became disenchanted with it right about the time I was going to graduate college in 2001, I had to take an class in college my senior for an easy A, my couselor told me to take Pop Music history, I skipped class the first couple of weeks, than I started going faithfully when the teacher started in the 1940’s era, and I loved the class. I learned about so much cool music, and I realized the stuff my parents listened to was real music, Janis, Santanna, Van Morisson, Ray C., Otis, Commadores, Etta, etc. My professor was a retired studio musician that jammed with a lot of soul singers back in the day, and needless to say that was one of the best classes I ever took.

  238. Ok Dingo, here are my two:

Out of Africa..when Robert Redford washes Meryl Streep’s hair out on safari and when he rises from the dinner table, puts his hand on her shoulder and heads for his tent, cang..cold shower time! I also love the wit and heart in the movie.

Accidental Tourist..I have always been a William Hurt fan and loved him in this movie. When he tries to explain to Gena Davis about his feelings after losing his son, my heart breaks for him and for all who have felt such sorrow.

I have so many others, but those are the top of a long list!

  239. SMB,

Thanks! There are a lot of Chris fans who are lurkers here and they often read Chris info here.

Chris is doing really well and he is a good man. He looked so happy on TRL the other day.

  240. Ladybug: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’Lastly. Has anyone seen the latest TV Guide??? Taylor has officially been erased from the Birmingham winners and been replaced by Chris Daughtry. It is there in black and white, under the Tuesday show summaries. I kid you not.

I have my TV Guide for this week, but hadn’t looked through the previews until now. Am trying to reconcile why they wrote it that way – did Chris audition in Birmingham last year? It’s the only thing I can think of. Taylor’s audition was in Vegas. I also don’t know if Bo, Ruben, and Diana auditioned in Birmingham. However, I’m just grasping at straws – unfortunately, your take is most likely the right one.

For those who haven’t read it, hope you don’t mind I’m copying the text. It’s listed under “REALITY”

AMERICAN iDOL ~ FOX 8/7c. Ruben Studdard. Bo Bice. Chris Daughtry. Diana DeGarmo. Birmingham has lent a lot of its local talent to Idol, so we can only imagine that tonight’s auditions from Alabama’s largest city will be packed with potential champs. And, if Paula keeps it up, a lot of laughs.

    OMG! I just watched Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ video about Jeremyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“leavingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . OMG! OMG! getting that shoulder massageà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ my manservant, Warrenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ OMG! Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sorry, but what an absolutely omnipotent, full-of-himselfà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe what I saw! à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“my manservant, Warrenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    —————————————-
LOL!!!! OMG, I knew you guys would touch on this.  The man servant, “Warren,” is Joey, the drummer! They were fooling around for gawd sake. I just have to laugh. When I saw how they staged this I knew the shit would hit the fan here, which is the main reason I came to check out this site. Oh, I’ve got tears in my eyes from laughing too hard. Pleeeeese stop! You guys are killing me! :lol_tb:

  242. In my fantasy and delusional imagination I have often wondered what song I would ask taylor to sing if he ever asked me for a request. In my delusion (HEY! its MY delusion so butt out) I was torn between so many but ultimately it was between “Cant You See” and “Son Of A Carpenter”.

  243. What 2 movies have you enjoyed so much that you watched, in its entirety, at LEAST 3 times.

    Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
    Office Space

  244. Ooh, I want to join..the two movies I have watched the most..would probably be Grease and Dirty Dancing. I can’t resist watching those 2 any time I see them on. My actual 2 favorite movies would have to be Beaches and The Notebook.

  245. Griz, you get an F for failing to follow directions dammit.

TWO movies. Now pick the TWO that you have watched the most.

LOLOLOL!! Okay okay – my TWO favorite movies of ALL time are:

    Midnight Cowboy
    Saturday Night Fever

and that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  246. Just stopped in for a quick minute. I’m so excited for Elliott… He looks good, sounds good – It’s ALL good! I’m a broken record right now… sorry. But – at least I admit it!

  247. Chris is doing really well and he is a good man. He looked so happy on TRL the other day.

You mean he didn’t have that death-man glare for a change? Damn, I missed that!

  248. Dingo, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m 28 going on 29.

And Im 54 going on 55. Thats how it works ya know lol.

Dee, thats what I kinda thought by the songs you gave me. Please dont give up on me. I tend to be predictable in my music and the voices I am attracted to are all very much the same raspy, raw kind of voice. On the edge of blues and rock and soul if that makes sense.

  249. Diana did not audition in Birmingham- she auditioned in Hawaii. She was born in Birmingham and lived there for a little while (I think around a year), however she claims Snellville, GA as her hometown.

  250. SMB,

    You are too funny!!!

Joey was funny on that video. It was very cute.

  251. Accidental Tourist..I have always been a William Hurt fan and loved him in this movie. When he tries to explain to Gena Davis about his feelings after losing his son, my heart breaks for him and for all who have felt such sorrow.

I’ve seen this one three times as well. LOVE it!

  252. And dingo…….

I am kin to Robert the Bruce.
    Yes, I love Braveheart.
I own every movie that has been listed here so far.

  253. Two favorite movies, per Dingo’s criteria,
    Godfather 1
Memento-Had to watch it several times to understand what was going on.
Taylor request, Marvin Gaye “Let’s Get It On”

  254. I guess at the end of the day what matters to the record company is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“unitsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and Chris is definitely selling those. The DAUGHTRY CD is still #1 on the Billboard charts. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Not Overà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is #6 on the Billboard charts, #2 on iTunes, and is the #1 video on VH-1 Top 20 Countdown.

Well as Clive said, he knows the difference between ART and COMMERCE. It’s clear where Chris falls on as far as your concerned.

now, the real way to tell daughtry is NOT a bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦a platinum sellign, hot new artist, daughtry, has a band member quit within two months of album releaseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

AND THERE IS NOT A SINGLE NEWS ITEM ABOUT IT.

Nowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦elliott hurt his finger throwing a rock and it made ET

Well folk, two things, He really isn’t more than a cd selling aritist and outside of selling cds, no one really cares. Or, his people intentionally did not release a statement because the guy really did not MATTER much and why draw any negative attention to Chris while he is on top of his game. You know what the joke will be if it really gets out.

Remember, even Taylor suing his ex-manager was on MTV and VH1 website and yet Chris, who is promonently displayed on their website has no mentioning of one of his bandmates dismissal..Me think his people don’t want this to get out.

  255. Griz, very good. Here’s a star for yer forehead.

    dcd74 Jan 27th, 2007 at 12:57 pm

Ooh, I want to join..the two movies I have watched the most..would probably be Grease and Dirty Dancing. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t resist watching those 2 any time I see them on. My actual 2 favorite movies would have to be Beaches and The Notebook.

Im a little confused. Yer 2 favs are DIFFERENT than the ones you have watched repeatedly and Im thinking yer pullin’ a griz. Tryin’ ta squeeze a few others in there.

  256. That is very funny that TV Guide has Chris Daughtry’s name as the AI Idol from Birmingham instead of Taylor Hicks.

I guess it was a freudian slip.

  257. Dee!! LOVE The Godfather and have watched it many many many times.

    NOLA Jan 27th, 2007 at 1:02 pm

    And dingoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

I am kin to Robert the Bruce.

OK, now yer just teasin’ me….right? Dont make me come out of this toasty batcave cause you know I will dammit.

  258. Yes, Kat I love Carrie- however she is not really original. Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a great singer and sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s due every respect that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s given but I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t call her original.

Actually my curiosity as to whether you like Carrie had nothing to do with originality. I find it interesting that the two Idols you enjoy–Carrie and Kat, are pretty, slim, and somewhat roundly criticized for their robotic performing styles. Whereas you dislike Fantasia, who I realize isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but who isn’t afraid to “get ugly” with her music. I don’t think it has anything to do with their race, so please don’t think I’m accusing you of that because I’m not, but it has given me some insight into what you’re looking for in an “American Idol.”

  259. Dingo – You didn’t ask for our favorite movies of all time. Just two we’ve seen at least three times. My answers would be diff for the former question.

  260. Yeah, I love the rasp, that is why I thought you would dig the KC and JoJo “All My Life”. I don’t like my singers to be perfect and hit every damn note, just as long as the feel what they are singing with every fiber down to their soul, and they have to be able to switch it up live, if I wnated perfect I would just listen to the recorded version.

  261. So many subjects going on today. I wasn’t able to get back on the site last nite after 10 PM PST so didn’t know if it was working this morning or not.
Yes, we are all obsessed fans. No doubt about that.
My five sons still want to know who the hell is buying Daughtrys album. One calls it rock elevator music. But good for Chris. BTW they don’t like Taylor either.
The only original music right now is the techno stuff. It is virtually impossible for musicians to avoid songs “sounding” a little like someone else. There are only so many notes and variations. Voices the same.
When I checked youtube last night, over 400 Taylor videos had vanished!!!!!!!! I am still in shock. I counted on them for entertainment when TV sucks, which is often.
Lastly, dingo, I did the same as you, went back over last years Taylor moments and I don’t think that can be duplicated.

  262. Puts Accidental Tourist on my new list Im making up today. You guys are the best. If I dont respond it means I have seen the movies you liked and there is a strong possibility I even own the DVD.

Gawd Im so full of myself.

  263. Metta Jan 27th, 2007 at 1:07 pm

Dingo – You didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t ask for our favorite movies of all time. Just two weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen at least three times. My answers would be diff for the former question.

Glares at Metta, Im hanging upside down in the batcave right now or Id come out and kick yer ass.

IF you have watched a movie 3 times or MORE, its one of yer favs. Am I not correct?

  264. Carolina were you chat carolina 71 last night, if so you owe me 5.00.

  265. My favorite Sunday afternoon guilty pleasure movie is Cruel Intenions. I’ve watched it many times. Also, almost anything with Johnny Depp merits a second watch.

  266. Pardon the interuption. Was it griz, JJ or Carolina who was keeping track of Tay’s tour date and AI6 shows for possible TH appearance? I would like to post a “matrix” of sort on my site but need your expert help. If interested, please send me an e-mail using the “contact us” link on http://www.tay-online.com. Thanks in advance.

  267. Fuck me.

Because Metta is a pain in the ass the question, which SHOULD have been self explanatory is now THIS.

What are your 2 favorite movies of ALL time.

Silly me. I assumed that if ya watched the fuckin’ movie in its fucking entirety that it would be one of your 2 all time fucking favs.

  268. Two movies I have watched more than 3 times through:

Pride & Prejudice (Keira Knightley version) — love it!
13 Going on 30 — but it’s not my favorite movie.

For the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon person…did you watch House of the Flying Daggers? That was a beautiful movie.

Also…I remember someone talking about Pan’s Labyrinth. My hubby is seeing it today. It looks very unusual. Is it good?

  269. To piggyback off Dingo and to make it more music related, what is your favorite movie SOUNDTRACK of all time?

  270. Also, almost anything with Johnny Depp merits a second watch.

    pj, do I talk funny?

WHAT 2 movies would be your all time favs? Any JD movie does not qualify!!

    Thats it!!

Im giving an F to the whole class.

    Dismissed!

  271. All right kids, as much fun as this Idol chatter can be, I have to get back to the real world, which for me means researching the constitutionality of non-solicitation ordinances. The sad thing? It’s FASCINATING. Really. Even if I am upset that it’s causing me to miss Gasparilla.

    Later!

  272. Im hanging upside down in the batcave right now

Does the blood rush to your head or all the way down to your bunny ears?

I’d also recommend The Crying Game and Under The Tuscan Sun (Sandra Oh co-stars).

  273. NOLA!

Were ya pullin my leg about The Bruce?????

If not, I bow down to you.

I’m glad I could entertain you as much as the video entertained me! I don’t follow Chris – have never seen his bandmates, or any of his videos, so the only info I get about him is on this board. Suffice it to say, it fit many of the remarks I’ve read about him from here (being so full of himself, etc) :)

I didn’t finish the video, btw.

Oops! I take it back about not ever watching one of his videos – I did see the National Anthem. He did a nice job – sang it mostly simply – the only way I like it done.

  275. When our son was home for Christmas and New Year’s, Chris Dautry was on the NY Eve show. I asked him if he liked Chris, and he said “I’ve never heard of him.” Todd lives near Washington, DC, is into music, but his comment is telling me Chris is not popular there.

  276. Dingo, who is your canidate for 08, do ya think Bill R. has a chance?

I SAID TWO. You guys are all riding the small bus on Monday.

  282. Movies that I have watched multiple times all the way through are:

Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

    When Harry Met Sally

    Lord of the Rings Movies

    Boyz in the Hood

    The Joy Luck Club

  285. Vegasdee…I take it it’s not going well for you?!?! Just when I think we’ve turned a corner on the whole housebreaking thing, she goes and pees on the floor. Plus…she’s an excited pee-er so when she sees hubby or new people, she pees. Ugh!

  286. Movies I’ve watched 3+ times:

    Cruel Intentions
Martin (freaky 70s vampire movie… awesome!)
    Run Lola Run
    Thelma and Louise
    This is Spinal Tap

I have lots of favorite movies that I don’t watch over and over, though.

  287. vegasdee Jan 27th, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Dingo, who is your canidate for 08, do ya think Bill R. has a chance?
I grew up in NM, and my dad and him are pals.

Ohhhhh Dee. Its a LONG way between now and ’08. No, Richardson doesnt have a chance IMO. I think it MIGHT be Edwards/Obama but dont forget. I pick the Buffalo Bills to win every year so what do I know.

I understand Chuck Hagel MAY run for prez on the Rep. ticket. That will be very interesting.

  288. Oooh. I loved Run Lola Run. And I agree with the Johnny Depp is awesome sentiments. Such a great, quirky actor…although I didn’t much care for Donnie Brasco.

  289. Somebody needs to teach daughboy the words to the National Anthem.
During the Saints/Bears game, he sang:

    Were so gallyantly streaming.

Whatever in the hell gallyantly is!!!!!!

  290. Ditto on:

    Thelma and Louise
    Spinal Tap

Dingo- That brings me up to, what, 10 favorites? Are you sufficiently pissed off? I hope so. lol

  291. So do we still not have a Dr. Phil topic for Taylor on Thursday? I can’t wait to see that show!

I think the two of them met during the xmas in washington special (the performance for the president) and they seem to hit it off based the clip Dr. Phil showed on his program. Something about Dr. Phil wanting Taylor to show him some dance moves? LOL!!

We should find out Monday, when they list the topics of the week on the Dr. Phil website….

When our son was home for Christmas and New Yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, Chris Dautry was on the NY Eve show. I asked him if he liked Chris, and he said à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never heard of him.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Todd lives near Washington, DC, is into music, but his comment is telling me Chris is not popular there.
    ——————————————-

OOOOOOOH, this does not bode well for Chris. Todd DOES NOT KNOW HIM!!! Todd reflects the musical interests of his generation in the big DC area. Quick, where’s Clive’s phone number **searches frantically…** He’s got to know that something has to be done! :laugh_tb:

That is very funny that TV Guide has Chris Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s name as the AI Idol from Birmingham instead of Taylor Hicks.

I guess it was a freudian slip.

Yeah, I guess that’s what it was. yeah, funny. :rolleyes_wp:

  294. Ghost, is an excited pee-er too, and another thing he does is I’ll put him outside so I can mop, he’ll be outside for hours, and then he will come and pee 3 times in a row on the freshly colroxed floor.

  295. Strange such a dynamo à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ is booking little bars, eh? Something not right about this picture.

I am glad you said this because I thought it and once again great minds think alike. I found it funny that Taylor was looked down upon by some of Chris’s fans because he played in bars and now Chris is actually playing in one of Taylor’s old stumping ground in Alabama.. But, as I’ve always felt, playing in bars was always a cool thing. You’ve got to start somewhere..

    I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe what I saw! à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“my manservant, Warrenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

After watching that video, I will recomfirm by belief that Chris and his ego will be going solo real soon. I wonder if he gets a tour bus by himself?

  296. Willie Wonka
    Harold & Maude

BTW, Daughtry couldn’t have auditioned in B’ham, as this year was the first year they held auditions there. Maybe someone who writes for TV Guide also belongs to OOO.

  297. Movies I’ve watch more than 3 times,

A Love Song For Bobby Long– Fantastic soundtrack too

    To Kill A Mockingbird

My hubby loves Usual Suspects and he is not a movie person so I had to buy it for him.

  298. Im writing down the Usual Suspects as I have not seen it yet.

Dingo, you will love it. It is the movie that made Kevin Spacey a star. He won his 1st academy award for it, and as Simon would say, it was an acting master class.

  299. I give up.

Who knew I was in a mentally challenged blog.

TWO..its a 3 letter word but it means TWO.

Makes me wanna rethink going back to GC’s and hanging out with the overly gushy, covered in syrup but clearly the upper crust place ta be. I mean the snooty, upturned nose, musically superior place ta be which is why I cant go there. I always end up in time out.

  300. I love the movies Sleepless in Seattle, Independence Day, Christmas Vacation, My Fellow Americans, Singing in the Rain, Glass Bottom Boat and It’s a Wonderful Life (although I hate that we don’t see Potter get his at the end).

  301. I watch a lot of horror flicks mulitple times due to Halloween. The Omen and Rosmary’s Baby are two faves. I’ve seen The Shining many times, too.

  302. I just Kat’s first poster in NYC. It’s really a postcard image of her album cover. On the internet, the cover looks sleezy. In NYC, it just looked cheesy, very 80s (the hair I think) and lacking style/edge. It looks more dorky than sexy. Anyway, nobody buys an album of the cover art anyway. Why are there so many posts on a Saturday morning? Must go back and read some.

  303. JJ,lol,I loooved the Sugar, sugar video. Whip off the hair, put a few whiskers on the face and hang a big old pocket chain and Voila, the rocker of the whole fucking millenium emerges!

  304. Dingo, not limiting to two. I don’t care if you come after me with your decoder rint.

  305. My five sons still want to know who the hell is buying Daughtrys album.

Well for starters, came across these entries on perezhilton:

…Hey, until this guyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s CD was featured on VH1 Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never heard of him. Never have watched AI. Was impressed with his single when I heard it and then was catching the Bears/Saints game and heard him sing the anthem. I thought this guy has some serious pipes, so checked out his album on line. Man, it really rocks. There are a few songs that I can do without, a little too mellow for this rock-on-roll guy, but man I was surprised to hear how good this CD is. Never wouldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve believed that he was on that show. Now my wife and I have something we can listen to together — usually my hard rock is just too much for her.

    And another:

…Never heard of the guy until I saw him last Sunday at the Bears game and my wife started screaming like a school girl. One of the best renditions of the anthem. Not over the top. I just downloaded his album from ITunes and it was better than I expected. Gotta give the man props, he has an awesome voice.

  306. Old School
    Jeannie
    Scout

Thank you all very much. Apparently you know the meaning of the word TWO.

Im writing some of these down so when Im bored, as it appears I will be today and tomorrow, I may rent these.

  307. pj – I try not to do horror flicks. I got really scared on a girl scout campout (ahem, recently) because I couldn’t get Fri the 13th out of my head.

  308. I always end up in time out.

You only end up in time out? I have a freakin’ kick me sign on every time I go there. MUST – ONLY – BE – POSITIVE – NO – SPIN – DRINKING – GAMES – BAD – TAYLOR – FAN

  309. Sorry Dingo – you can throw a bunny slipper at me. I didn’t read the directions.

  310. Dingo, if Chuck runs it will be interesting. The best concerts I’ve been to have been at clubs/bars 1,000 people max., very intimate and in your face, I can’t wait for Taylor in Vegas, May 5. I must go, I have to pick up my daughter from soccer practice, she is going to a tournament in San Antonio in 2 weeks, the poor girl thinks she is Pele. I give her pass though, because she likes Taylor, thinks *** sounds like Christina A. on a very, very bad day, and doesn’t like Chris screaming at her, she hears him on the radio a lot. I think I’ve influenced her a little too much……

  311. Metta Jan 27th, 2007 at 1:23 pm

    Ditto on:

    Thelma and Louise
    Spinal Tap

Dingo- That brings me up to, what, 10 favorites? Are you sufficiently pissed off? I hope so. lol

Since Im not speaking to that woman….Monica Lew, I mean Metta….

Can someone tell her the answer is YES.

  312. Lu, I never used to watch them, but a few years ago I asked for recommendations and have been watching them ever since.

  313. sammy – I LOVED Brian’s Song – cryed my eyes out the first time I saw it! Thanks for the reminder!

  314. Sammy!

    Yeah! Ya did it!

Good choices have seen them both but brian’s Song is way too sad for me.

  315. Lu Jan 27th, 2007 at 1:32 pm

Sorry Dingo – you can throw a bunny slipper at me. I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read the directions.

Not to worry Lu. Very few did and some even have hoity toity degrees in one thing or another.

  316. Hard call.

    Goodfellas
    St Elmo’s Fire

Ask me again in a week or so and it would be totally different.

  317. You only end up in time out? I have a freakinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ kick me sign on every time I go there. MUST ONLY – BE – POSITIVE – NO – SPIN – DRINKING – GAMES – BAD – TAYLOR – FAN

    LOL jj!!

I want the old GC’s back! Tell Taylor ta get his own blog and leave my GC alone dammit.

JUST KIDDINGGGGGGG. Sort of. not really.

  318. Lisa!!! Loved Goodfellas and congrats for following directions to a T.

  319. I am glad you said this because I thought it and once again great minds think alike. I found it funny that Taylor was looked down upon by some of Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fans because he played in bars and now Chris is actually playing in one of Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s old stumping ground in Alabama.. But, as Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve always felt, playing in bars was always a cool thing. Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve got to start somewhere..

I think only in Chris’ wetdream that he prays that someday he might play in a such a legendary venue as the FILLMORE in San Francisco, like Taylor is booked into on May 9th.

Stick that up your arse, Daughtry, while you play in John and Mary’s Roadshack! LOL!

  320. But but but Dingo, I have seen The Notebook and Beaches multiple times..I have just seen Grease and Dirty Dancing the most!

Someone mentioned above a Taylor request..I’d like to hear him sing Behind Closed Doors by Charlie Rich ;)

  321. I waited 3 hours and missed out on getting DAUGHTRY tickets at the Paradise in Boston. Looks like the venue is sold out already. Maybe there will be tickets available closer to the show.

At any rate, anybody got an extra ticket? I’m looking for one!

By the way, the Paradise is a tiny rock club. Not sure of the capacity, but it’s definitely in the hundreds. I’m not surprised the concert sold out. Plus, Daughtry is real popular up here.

  322. Margie!

To Kill A Mockingbird has to be one of the all time greatest classics…EVER.

Shawshank is way too dark and tense for me. great movie but could never watch it more than once for those reasons.

  323. I waited 3 hours and missed out on getting DAUGHTRY tickets at the Paradise in Boston.

Whips head up from desk….well…dont they know who you are?

Didnt you flash yer MJ’s bigblog pass at them?

I bet you get tickets as it gets closer to the date.

  324. BTW, please don’t generalize about fan groups. I feel like a freaking broken record with that request.

  325. My two favorites (see, I follow the rules) ;-)

    Notting Hill
Shall We Dance (once again, the Japanese version)

Watching the AI Auditions, finally! So far:

    1) Sarah Krueger

If I close my eyes, I may like Sundance….but that frickin beard is gross…..and the comments a la judges made me NOT like him….

  326. Someone mentioned above a Taylor request..Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d like to hear him sing Behind Closed Doors by Charlie Rich ;)

Arghhhhhhhhh. Thats it, I mean that one just put me over the edge. Time for an Advil, a Valium and a glass of wine.

See you all later. Yer all very naughty.

  327. Jeannie, good call on The Notebook and A Walk to Remember…I love Nicholas Sparks and have all his books. I got his newest one for Christmas and haven’t had the chance to read it yet.

  328. I’m a politically junkie too….watch and read a lot!

I don’t think Bill R will go far….the Hilary vs Barack carp by the non-libs is already happening…..

I’m curious to see if Newt throws his hat in the ring…

  329. No Dingo wait, come back..I promise I will be good :(

**writes on the blackboard 167556757647 times**

I promise to learn to follow Ms Dingo’s directions.

  330. Too late DCD, I killed the blog….it was a quick, painless death…. :wallbash_tb:

  331. LOL ah well, that’s what I get for actually posting today instead of lurking. 2 more hours and my house will be full of neighborhood children ready to party.

    How are you today? :D

  332. cateye Jan 27th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

Wait DINGO! What about Shameless à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Garth Brooks style?

Just when ya think yer out, they PULL you back in.

OMG Cateye. Shameless is one of those songs that, if sung the way Garth sings it, can bring me to my knees. THAT would be awesome.

I know Billy Joel wrote it, and its a brilliant song but no one can do it like Brooks can. Holy shit, I would LOVE to hear Taylor do that one.

Im not sure even he can touch Garth’s version but he could sure give him a run for his money.

NOW, I am going to get some shit done.

  333. As to “TV Guide”, they picked Chris way back when. I wrote a letter, which they published, which told them not to count out Taylor Hicks. Maybe they made that little “slip” to get back at ME! So’s I’d write them again or something. :rolleyes_wp: I think I will just leave it alone this time.

Y’all have some great movies in there! Squishy. I like your list. I know I have watched the original first two Star Wars movies multiple times. Ditto “Raiders”

I think my all-time favorite movie (and book) — “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

And “The Usual Suspects” is a modern masterpiece. I remember someone warning me “do not turn your head away on the last 2 minutes of that film”! Boy were they right!!!

As to films I have watched more than 3 times. Too many to list.

  334. Another note:

Telling a fellow poster to “get a life” is unspeakably rude. I will not tolerate it.

And, if the My Idol is Better Than Your Idol carp starts today–I close comments. Thank you.

  335. Spinal Tap was awesome, i love the quirky character movies. Along with that list, Best in Show is hilarious. Parker Posey looking for that damned “squeaky toy” and going to the pet shop is lol funny. I think any pet lover can see themselves somewhere in this movie. Waiting for Guffman is another of this series that is so good it will make you weep. And the last of these, I think I heard a new one is soon to be released, is The Mighty Wind, a wonderful tribute movie to folk singing. In particular Eugene Levy does a remarkable job.

Dingo, if you haven’t seen Walk the Line,Cinderella Man,or Prarie Home Companion they are all terrific movies.

A couple of oldies, Imitation of Life with Lana Turner. When Susan Kohner follows her mother’s hearst crying “Mama,Mama,” my God I cry like a baby and A Trip to Bountiful with the incomperable Geraldine Paige is a beautiful, heart touching movie.

One more and I will shut the hell up, The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, This is a very quirky, sexy, odd little movie of which there are two makes. The first stars Scarlett O’Hara(I can’t think f her real name) and a very young and hot Warren Beatty. The second stars Helen Mirren who at age 60 looks fantastic. The movie takes place in Rome and the scenery is outstanding,

So many movies, music, and books, so little time.

  336. MJ, Daughtry tickets went on sale here at noon. I tried at 12:02 and they were already unavailable. I kept trying for 20 minutes or so. Nada.

  337. Hey DCD: are you on the valium drip with all those children coming to your house?

Oh my gawd! Fidel Castro is on the Memphis auditions!!!! Oh JC! OH Carp! This is the Sean Michael everyone was talking about???

He gets my vote so far…….not by looks, but by his seemingly rebellious sound and attitude! Go Fidel!!!

  338. WOO HOO…I am finally home and back with my baby. No more business trips until September.

  339. A Walk to Remember

OK, I will admit it, I think Mandy Moore is cute as a button.

  340. Lisa B- GoodFellas is one of my all time favs along with Spinal Tap

I’ll give 2 classics for the romantics here:

    Jules and Jim
    Children of Paradise

  341. (gizmo) Hi first off i find this a nice and funny blog compared to others that are menaspirited or a little too gushy…Last years on of my favorites was Taylor I had others too ,elloit and buck or Paris was interesting to me also. The thing that got me very down and shocked me was how people want Taylor on the Ai cite wanted him to fail and it was just nasty. Then his cd did not do like others xpeted and it is like “I told ya so” from some preschool calss. Come on I like Taylor forsome of his music and not everyone will agree but that. …..Daughtry is the golden child righ now but no way is he John bon jovi or as Simon fuller bigger than Justin Timberlake he has been around music or in and out for 13 years. When chris is pushing 40 than we can talk Simon……..Daughtry is a good rocker but as someone on this cite said pop bands come and go and wait and see if he can adapt. The guy can still do as well when the next new thing comes along. **** does have a good voice but like her singing Ella fiztgerald and she really tries hard to be infront of the camera.. It just saddens me that Taylor was slammed………….Funny thought if ***** beat Chris.. Would the few fans of both that are nasty be put in a ring for a wwf take down…….

  342. I think Mandy Moore is cute too…why are we talking about Mandy Moore? I am lazy and have been driving back from NY since 6:00 AM. :sleep_tb:

  343. JJ, in Chat last night, we decided you would “step up” to be the new “J” for DAUGHTRY! It may be only short-term…if you decide screaming women/men, money and fame is not for you at your tender young age….

Go grow some serial killer sideburns, shave your head, get the TAT, and you are ALLLL set to kick a$$$$!!!

  344. sammy,

yes, Vivien Leigh. Thank you, she was also fantastic in Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando, yet another favorite of mine.

  345. “This is Spinal Tap” is one of the funniest movies ever. I like many of the movies those group of actors make.

Another movie that cracks me up every time I see it is “Airplane”.

  346. Valley………..I will pass those two fan letters on to my sons. They will totally care. LOL

One of my favorite movies is Chocolat…..partly for the Johnny Depp sighting, but love the whole thing. Also, an oldie called Bennie and June with Johnny. Too many good movies out there over the years, but I will watch anything with Johnny in it.

  347. Well, I knew I wouldn’t like Chris’ style of music when he picked an effing Creed song, but he is very current and has a good set of pipes. I am happy for him and I think his success is deserved.

Now, Simon can eat effing dirt for all I care. DAUGHTRY is good, but not that good, and nowhere near being a legend or even on the same level as Justin Timberlake, not yet anyways.

    Did Simon really say that…HAHAHAHAHA!

  348. For those who havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seen the picture – while Taylor was at a Lakers game last week, he accidently ran across a picture of himself performing from the AI tour hanging on the wall at the Staples Center. I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s great that the PTB singled out Taylor to honor him that way.

And what a cute picture it is..Whoever took the picture of the performance, caught a nice shot..Taylor does look moved by the picture.

    Word, xoxoyc!

If someone was truly an original, they probably wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have been selected for AI in the first place.

So you’re saying that Fantasia, Taylor, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and Bo Bice aren’t real artist who just was looking for a break. As Taylor, himself have proven, it’s hard out there for those who can’t be easily be molded to fit the pre-packaged image but really want a break. AI gives them that break. I don’t agree that a truely orginal artist would not appear on AI because I don’t believe any truly original artist exist today. Every singer kind of reminds you of someone else, past or present. I do agree that AI is all about pre-packaging their singers for the purpose of selling cds. Some don’t mind being pre-package because they don’t have any real musical direction or style. Others, on the other hand, don’t care to be pre-packaged but unfortunately, with their initial cd from AI, they don’t have a choice. I believe someone who is original can’t be molded too easily. Eventually they will go back to being who they were before AI.

By the way, I also think being original is putting your own spin on something,…regardless of whether it’s current or old school…instead of copying it and trying to pass it off as your own. Taylor has done that with his cd. Except for the collective agreement that it has a throw back sound, everyone seems to have varied opinions of each single sound and who or what it reminds them of.

  349. LOL cat..no valium drip yet. Ask me tonight when I come to chat!
As for Sean Michel. I loved his voice. I hope he makes it to the top 24.

  350. I taught a movie class to high school students and got to show alot of great films. One that really still holds up is Rebel Without A Cause. I think I’ve seen This is Spinal Tap 20 times and I laugh like crazy every time.

  351. Lisa B – Tiring and cold…very cold. VA is as far north as I can go. I am a GA girl and we don’t like the cold.

  352. Griz,

After showing us the pictures of Taylor’s girlfriend (or whatever), I went to take a look last night.

Go look at picture #434. I think you’re right – his crack team is not paying attention.

Wonder who is posting those photos?

  353. I think Mandy Moore is cute tooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦why are we talking about Mandy Moore? I am lazy and have been driving back from NY since 6:00 AM.

We were talking aboaut movies we liked and someone mentioned A Walk to Remember, Mandy Moore was the star.

JJ, in Chat last night, we decided you would à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“step upà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to be the new à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Jà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ for DAUGHTRY! It may be only short-termà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦if you decide screaming women/men, money and fame is not for you at your tender young ageà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

sniff, sniff, I feel so honored. sniff sniff. Of course, I’m sure everyone realizes that he is now doomed to fail.

  354. madaboutu – You even liked Wonka? Johnny creeped me out in that movie.

  355. Pictures…where are the picture. I need help…I am a new mom and have little time. :)

  356. At least you are safe and warm back home now.

So what’s the story on the AI auditioner you met?

  357. Nah…..DAUGHTRY will not fail….there is absolutely No Way that would ever happen……he represents the music of today…..he’s headed for double platinum…..he is the Golden Child…

Of course, you are and will be expendable…now go learn your 4 guitar notes….

    :drunk_tb:

  358. Word, xoxoyc!

If someone was truly an original, they probably wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have been selected for AI in the first place.

So youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re saying that Fantasia, Taylor, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and Bo Bice arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t real artist who just was looking for a break.

Sexygirl, please don’t put words in my mouth. I didn’t say those people weren’t real artists. Of course they are very good singers and artists.

I said that a truly original singer probably wouldn’t pass the test from the judges and TPTB as they want $$ and an image and a particular sound that isn’t entirely original IMO.

I really think MJ doesn’t want this argument to go much further so that’s all I’m gonna say.

  359. “American Idol” Producers Force Simon to Sing For His Supper

..”FOX, deluged with complaints about Simon’s “tough love” Ebenezer Scrooge judging policy apparently reached a bubbling point after Simon indirectly called a contestant a ‘monkey boy’ on a recent show. Our reporters got the exclusive on FOX’s disciplinary actions.”

FOX’S Director of Programming, faced with the possibility of firing Simon told reporters,

“Simon’s a good man. Just a little over the edge in the judging department. We hope this singing experience will awaken him, get him to, oh I don’t know, lighten up a bit?”

Fans of Simon, of which there are many are in a rage over his humiliating punishment countered saying,….

    http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s4i14093

  360. TPTB won’t let DAUGHTRY fail. Bruce from FoxesonIdol is calling Chris the “Savior of Season 5”.

  361. But heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s right in one sense à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ songs have to capture more about human experience than simply love between a man and woman. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s next challenge.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Taylor said the reason why he liked music from the past was because you could feel the guy’s heartbreaking when he sang. One will assume that’s the angle he draws from when he sings his songs.

A lot of Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s original compositions are autobiographical à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ they talk about long distance love, life on the road and broken relationships because of this kind of life.

You’re a man, can’t you relate to things like that?

AMERICAN iDOL ~ FOX 8/7c. Ruben Studdard. Bo Bice. Chris Daughtry. Diana DeGarmo. Birmingham has lent a lot of its local talent to Idol, so we can only imagine that tonightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s auditions from Alabamaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s largest city will be packed with potential champs. And, if Paula keeps it up, a lot of laughs.

That was obviously done by someone who either did not do their homework or felt the need to give Chris some more false hype because it says local. Chris is neither from Alabama nor Birmingham.

  362. Go look at picture #434. I think youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re right – his crack team is not paying attention.

Hmm, apparently the girl is looking for some “heavy attention” from Taylor or his fans or something. Another whack job for sure ;)

Chris is the savior???? I thought the head of the Church of Scientology just declared Tom Cruise the savior??? Damn, I just can’t get his right. Who should I be genuflecting in front of????

Everyone knows Taylor was THE star of the show last year as well as the headliner/star of the AI tour.

Unoriginal, copy-kat bands like Chris simple DO NOT last the test of time – look at your musical history.

Only bands/people that offer something different, original, interesting ever last beyond a few years.

  365. Kerri,

The picture is on Taylor’s site, taylorhicks.com, it is #434 where fans post pictures of themselves. This appears to be the same girl who posted pictures a while back of her and Taylor together on a trip or something. Black dress girl at Paris birthday party.

Yeah, Squishy, I saw that writeup from Bruce too. It’s clear that he thinks no one will do as well as Chris, which of course I agree with, but to see it in print is remarkable. I think these types of articles will become more abundant over time. I can’t help but feel bad for Taylor.

  367. Bruce called Chris that in FoxesonIdol in his post on Thursday about whether the judges were too mean in FoxesonIdol.

  368. SMB,

I also feel a little bad for Taylor as well. But maybe Taylor doesn’t care and is just happy about having a great tour.

He called Chris to ask his opinion? What was the response? Probably something like what Ace and Bucky said on LKL I imagine.

    ————————————

I think you’re so right. Both Taylor and Chris are so removed from the angst that the fans experience. No matter what happens in the future they’ve both reaped so much more than they could have ever dreamed. It’s the fans that are stuck in this mode of desperation, anger, and worry. I think it will take a while for that to dissipate.

  374. I also feel a little bad for Taylor as well. But maybe Taylor doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care and is just happy about having a great tour.

I wouldn’t feel “too bad” for Taylor – he’s swimming circles around Chris financially and PR wise, considering all the money Taylor’s made on the AI tour, merchandising (who earned more than anyone), his advances on his book and his CD, his huge salary from Ford, his public appearances, his kudos from heavy-weights in the music industry ….

yep, don’t shed a tear squishy – it would be wasted.

One word….fascinating. if you get a chance, dont miss it.

  378. Why feel sorry for Taylor? I highly doubt that he spends his time dwelling on all things Chris.

  379. Thanks for the hawt photos Griz.

This is probably old news – but Gray has a video from Taylor saying thank and that the GoFish question and answer has come to a close.

Bruce called Chris that in FoxesonIdol in his post on Thursday about whether the judges were too mean in FoxesonIdol.
    ——————————

  381. Wow, it’s been quite an eventful morning. Soooooo, to answer this question:

What 2 movies have you enjoyed so much that you watched, in its entirety, at LEAST 3 times.

Bridget Jones’ Diary (Don’t judge me.)
    Notorious

And for anyone who has yet to see it, I’d highly recommend Little Miss Sunshine if dysfunctional families make you laugh.

  382. SMB,

You are right. Taylor gave Chris props in the MTV article and is happy for him.

Taylor and Chris are friends and like MJ said, they just have different paths.

  383. Also, any more posts from fangirls trying to piss off fans from other fan groups, even under the guise of being “positive” WILL BE DELETED.

  384. I also feel a little bad for Taylor as well. But maybe Taylor doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care and is just happy about having a great tour.

At least Taylor can be happy he’s not short and ugly.

  385. I have to throw in my two cents about the “Savior of Season 5” comment. I really don’t think season 5 needed a savior. I think that was the most talented bunch to date. They all seem to be successfully following different paths and I am happy for all of them. I hope they all have great careers amd am optimistic that it will happen.

  386. Im begging you guys, please stop the idol bashing cause I have nothing ta do today and if she closes the comments Im gonna have a breakdown.

    Chris is good
    Taylor is good

    Its all good.

    If you care about me
    If you love me

STOP! In the name of love. Before you break my hearttttt…think it ooooverrrrr. ..Oh, sorry, I broke into a Supreme’s hit there.

  387. Wow, how positive about Chris am I allowed to be? Is there some sort of a barometer? Maybe I better stick to movies. Yeah, that seems safe…..

db, I loved Bridget Jones Diary. Love Renee. Hugh Grant was great in that too. Lately I’m getting a little tired of all his romance movies. I loved him in the beginning when he played in the B movies. Have you ever seen The Englishman Who Went Up The Hill? I love the comedies shot in England with the English actors, like Waking Up Ned Devine.

  388. Gizmo—–First sorry If i affended any other fans and about my typing it stinks…….. By the way a correction Simon Fuller said Chris would sell more than Justin….Maybe he will but what i ment was Justin started young so 13 years he is in his 20’s Chris would be 40…….movies little miss sunshine is good
If someone can explaine ai slamming one contestant oe human nature i will give them money……………………..thanks ya

  389. I like romance movies and sci-fi thriller movies.

It is interesting that some of the movies that win Academy awards are not the most enjoyable to watch even once.

  390. MJ – Have you seen some of those new pics of Elliott? Talk about a makeover!

  391. just got back and hope I’m not too late for the movie discussion
My favorite movie of all time- Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I LOVE this movie and am a mess as soon as they set out in that cab, and that song Moon River begins. Watch this movie when I need a really good cry..
Someone mentioned Best in Show, funny movie, actually I could watch anything directed by Christoper Guest over and over
Just saw The Queen, excellent movie, Helen Mirren a shoo in for the Academy award, also saw Half Nelson, a depressing movie with a great perfromance by Ryan Gosling, very moving

  392. OK, why is my fabulous post not getting posted. looks at MJ, it was a good post she says in her best whine. Whyyyyyyy?? It was gooodddddd.

  393. I know you can downloads vids on the new iPod. Are the AI episodes available for download – anyone know?

  394. Lu,

Could you place the links here again for Elliott’s pics?

I want to see them! My sister has a crush on Elliott.

  395. Lu, I dont know if you saw my comments much earlier about those E pics but OMG, he looks fantastic! I mean, downright handsome I tell ya.

    Whoaaaaaaa.

  396. Lu, where are the Elliott pictures?

Oh, and I agree about Season 5… especially the guys.

  397. I love these pictures of Elliott, this photographer is excellent,
It is freezing here, I am drinking expresso and am enjoying the sounds of Jack Johnson , life is good
    Hey, Lu!

  398. I think it should be left to the individual Idols to define success for themselves, not their fans, not the media, nor anyone else. IMHO, as a fan, it’s not fair to label Chris the only success of AI5 and to say that Taylor is a flop. That’s based purely on units, and while that speaks volumes in the industry, that doesn’t take into consideration what both Chris and Taylor wanted for themselves personally. For me, as a fan of Taylor and his music, I want him to be successful in whatever way he defines success, yet I also want him to continue making music, because that makes me happy. There’s always going to be a bit of tension between the two, yet I prefer that the artist be happy with himself rather than conform to my definition of his success.

    ETA:

Have you ever seen The Englishman Who Went Up The Hill? I love the comedies shot in England with the English actors, like Waking Up Ned Devine.

I rented “The Englishman…” a few years back, and at the end of the film, I remember thinking, “Eh?” I can’t tell you why I didn’t like it, since I tend to really enjoy British comedies. A bit of an anomaly, I suppose. I haven’t seen “Waking Up Ned Devine;” I’ll put that on my list of films to rent. :)

  399. daisy, I loved Best in Show, it was the best movie Christoper Guest ever made (even better than Spinal Tap, IMHO)

  400. so first….pride and prejudice should ONLY be watched on BBC. the keira knightly version is unacceptable.

and second. SEASON FIVE IS OVER.

I do feel bad, however, that chris cannot keep his band together for more than two months.

  401. Dingo – Those pics blew me away… I liked the one in the hat. Wonder if it was Ace’s? :)

  402. Dingo: Thats a great write up about JTFTW! I cant for the life of me see how they put into a country category but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll take it and for the record, I think Taylor could sing the shit outta country music. It aint yer grandpaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s country music anymore.

Dingo, don’t think i’m insufferable but i mentioned country crossover one of the last times i talked about taylor’s cd a while back when i was thinking about a good fit for him in today’s marketplace; country radio was a place i could realistically hear some of his more mainstream songs finding a home. country music has some of the best songwriting going on today and besides, we all know country songs tell a story, as do the best crossover songs on taylor’s cd. it’s a rational, easy way to hit a huge market and satisfy his handlers without bending over backwards musically to hit the narrow parameters of the teen scene, which is mostly heavily synthed-out, chill urban with a little pop/rock balladry thrown in here and there.

taylor is an alabama guy and steeped in the world of southern rock/blues/soul/country. and i bet people on cmt will relate to his non-pretentious style and his manly look. heck, ray charles did country! i see taylor doing his own soul/blues thang down the line for years, and that makes me ridiculously happy, but country crossover can bring some good tunes as well, and can really stabilize his income and bring many more people to his beautiful voice, and that makes me happy too. it’s a nice solution.

  403. Not sure if this was already discussed, but why can’t Chris be the second guitarist in CHRIS. Is there a certain formula for making pretend rock & roll bands that I’m not aware of? Hmmm…

I love Best in Show, Bridget Jones’ Diary, the BBC Pride & Prejudice, Reservoir Dogs, The Princess Bride, The Empire Strikes Back, Shaun of the Dead, The Nightmare Before Christmas (is that more than two?)

  404. will the powers that be..give t’s single to a country station????? billboard believe it would be a hit if the song JTFTW cross over to country..WILL ALL STATION GET THE SINGLE???or does the country station have to request it????how can we get it notice on the country charts???there are some songs on t’s album that can cross over to country

  405. Lu Jan 27th, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Dingo – Those pics blew me awayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I liked the one in the hat. Wonder if it was Aceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s? :)

Lu, LOVED the one with the hat but my fav was the 2nd close up with that gorgeous curly dark hair and those bedroom eyes. He’s very very hot in those pictures. There will be no denying that.

I couldn’t agree with you more, db. Unfortunately, this comes with the title Taylor won, which definitely makes it a double-edged sword. Simply because of that, it is inevitable that the comparison will be made, especially since Chris was eliminated so early. With time, this will diminish, other future contestants will win the AI crown, and Taylor can move comfortably to his own rhythm and be successful in his own right.

  407. Agree with you Dingo. I think the one you’re talking about should be his cd cover.

  408. Dingo, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m insufferable but i mentioned country crossover one of the last times i talked about taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cd a while back when i was thinking about a good fit for him in todayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s marketplace; country radio was a place i could realistically hear some of his more mainstream songs finding a home.

Yep, I remember Patty and I agree with you 100%. Country music today has very little in common with yesterdays country music. A raspy voice and a “story” to tell and yer off. I bet Taylor would do fabulous on the country charts.

  410. JJ, loved the female character in Best in show with the poodle, and the yuppie couple with the neurotic dog, I actually know a married couple like that, they were ga ga for their Springer spaniel, the dog was treated like royalty, They brought the dog everywhere, and it had all these special toys, treats. First baby comes along, and the dog is tossed away like yesterdays’ news, poor thing has a dog house now! I feel sorry for the poor thing now

  411. Totally agree with the Elliott looks hot in his new pictures. The bedroom eyes pic would make a good CD cover. I’d buy it just for the picture. :tongue1_tb:

    Two Most watched movies?

    Finding Nemo
    Toy Story

    Two Favourite movies watched repeatedly

At this point in time, yes, I’m being much too idealistic. :) As you said, as times progresses, the comparisons will begin to fade. Chris and Taylor inhabit two different musical worlds – and by that I mean their musical genres – neither of which should be compared to each other imho. However, the common link of AI trumps all.

And E’s new pic….wow, the boy looks very good. :)

  414. Elliott is CALIENTE!!! :wub_tb:

Elliott has always had beautiful eyes and I like his curly hair. It reminds me of my son’s. His hair is the kind you want to run your fingers through.

The CD cover is going to be HOT!!

  415. and the yuppie couple with the neurotic dog, I actually know a married couple like that

That’s my sister in law. They don’t have any kids, so the dog was their kid. They actually sent around an announcement when their 1st dog died. They even asked for donations in her name to a charity.

  416. I know nobody will pay attention to this but I’ll mention some favorite movies that popped into my head.

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?

    Logan’s Run

    Godfather

    Goodfellas

  419. dave, if I say that I’ve never seen any of those movies, will you refuse to catch me if I fall off chat?? ;)

Christmas movie to be watched after the in-laws leave?

The movie that I always watch when I’m sick:
    Sense and Sensibility

The movie I watch when I’m really sick:
Pride and Prejudice (The definitive 5 hour BBC version)

  420. “Finding Nemo” is my favorite animation movie.

I saw it in the theater after having given birth to a son and I was on a first “date” with my husband after the baby was born.

I cried at the end because it was about Fathers and sons (plus I was hormonal since I was breastfeeding).

  421. Kirsten – I didn’t know that. Both of my little girls love that movie. Every now and then we’ll pop it in on a Saturday or sunday afternoon and pop some popcorn. Fun times..

  422. dave: Loganà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Run

Dave! I can see why as a Taylor fan you might appreciate that movie ;-)

We were actually discussing this at work the other day. Some of the younger employees were shocked to discover one of our co-workers was 40. Those of us in our thirties commented sarcastically that, yeah, he should have been made to go to Carousel by now. We grew sad when none of the younger employees had ever even heard of Logan’s Run. I think I’m ready for my crystal to change colours.

  423. db-I will still catch you but you better at least watch What Ever Happened to Baby Jane or I’ll drop you the next time.

    Thanks Daisy.

  425. Goodfellas

dave, we always pay attention to you. Can you believe that this was nominated for best picture the same year as Dancing with Wolves, and lost?????

The movie I watch when Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m really sick:

  426. Colin Firth in a wet, white shirt always makes me feel better.

  427. Bridges of Madison County

Have watched it dozens of times. Its a chick flick. I love it. There, I said it.

    Not another word ya hear?

  428. Ya know age is a funny thing. I remember growing up my dad was alway joking around and stuff even though he was old as dirt(in my mind). He used to love it when people would joke that he and my sister looked like brother and sister. What I’m trying to say age is just a number and the older we get we just become bigger, older kids.

He took me to see Logan’s Run. I bought the DVD but have not opened it up in the 3 yrs I’ve owned it. I don’t have the heart to watch it and alter my memories of that movie.

  429. Sounds like you and your dad had something truly special, dave. That’s really cool. :)

    It wasn’t as picturesque. :mellow_tb:

I saw those Elliott pics, Lu you got a HOT one on your hands.
I really think his CD will be good. I just hope doesn’t over sing too much.

  432. If they ever fire Simon, AIà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ratings will go down the toilet

Maybe they can just replace him with Chris since they feel he is a saviour of a season.

The picture is on Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s site, taylorhicks.com, it is #434 where fans post pictures of themselves. This appears to be the same girl who posted pictures a while back of her and Taylor together on a trip or something. Black dress girl at Paris birthday party.

Did the picture get taken down? I see #433, which is a picture of a woman’s breast and #434 is a picture of a fan..

I really think MJ doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want this argument to go much further so thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gonna say.

further, the more important daughtry story is he could not even keep his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ together for two straight months.

    which, btw, is ridiculous.

I wonder if little Jeremy got a peek at a royalty statement and all those bracketed numbers? Could it be he was Shocked Spice?

Anyway, I’m sending Chris a box of Rock Band Helper (TM Nevada) to assist him in coming up with a tastier dish…

    Lots of Italian food
No rings but 2 gold bracelets

    Dave, does that sound ok?

  435. Sounds like you and your dad had something truly special, dave. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really cool. :)

Will be back later….gotta do something productive with what’s left of my day…

  437. Dancing With Wolves was, hands down, one of the best epics ever made along with Braveheart IMHO.

  438. dingo-you are so fickle. But I love you.

Yes dave but thats one of my more adorable traits.

  439. Dingo, I liked Bridges of Madison county too, actually thought the movie was better than the book, Meryl was beautiful and Clint is such a handsome man, who wouldn’t fall in love? can I be invited to the wedding, love italian food, good red wine, lots of dancing, the beach, the sunset, damn I need a second ceremony already

  440. The movies that I have watched over and over are Field of Dreams and Rudy. I love Rudy. The first time I saw it in the theatre, I stood up and yelled Rudy in the theatre. Both of those movies make me feel so good and that I can do anything.

  441. Danielia cotton. If ya aint heard her “Pride” song make time to listen to it. OMG.

Thank Debs…again. Another gem in my iPod.

  442. I have to check out “Dancing with Wolves” then. I have never seen it. “Braveheart” is my brother’s favorite movie. “Shawshank Redemption” is my husband’s favorite movie.

  443. Dancing With Wolves was, hands down, one of the best epics ever made along with Braveheart IMHO.

I guess this is coming from the side of your brain that likes Sundance Head.

  444. What 2 movies have you enjoyed so much that you watched, in its entirety, at LEAST 3 times.

    —-

    I’m dropping in to answer:

    “An Affair to Remember”

    “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”

    ciao

  445. Daisy, all of MJ’s is invited.

Jennifer, Rudy is a tearjerker for sure. Very good movie.

I love Seabiscuit too and Open Range too and The Fabulous Baker Boys and Frankie and Johnny and…………

  446. I just want to say that it is 3:56 on a Saturday afternoon, and I haven’t had a drink since one sip of a mimosa at 9 this morning. Sigh…….

  447. I’m wataching ATL right now. Rather, taking a break. It’s rather plodding. Not sure I would recommend it, but will wait until I’m done with it to say for sure.

Never seen Field of Dreams. Good baseball movies… Bull Durham and The Natural.

‘Scuse me while I sharpen my bunny claws.

Mary, those are excellent choices. An Affair To Remember. OMG, that was awesome.

  449. “Bull Durham” and “the Natural” are 2 of the best baseball movies.

One of the best football movies is “Brian Song”. Another tearjerker.

  450. JJ Jan 27th, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Bwahahahahaha!! its gonna be a dry dry day Im afraid. Taylor WHO?

OHHHHHHHH… GET DOWN ALL YOU TAYLOR PROTECTORS!

I love my boy too ya know but ya gotta laugh sometimes. This is why I cant go to GC’s. Id be tarred and feathered by now.

  451. Ok here’s a chickflick that left me on the floor. It was a very personal movie for me. I was embarrassed as all sh*t since I took a date to see it.

    Terms of Endearment

  452. Brian’s Song… makes me cry every time. Joy Luck Club, too. Heck, I cry at soap operas. Who am I kidding?

  453. Dave, Terms of Endearment is another SURE tearjerker.

The part where the mother goes to the nurses station and asks…no, begs them to give her daughter her pain medication and they pretty much blow her off and she screams….my daughter needs pain medicine NOW!

Oh I could so relate to that scene. I did it myself on more than one occasion. You’d be surprised how fast they move when you resort to causing a scene in the middle of the floor in front of the nurses station dammit.

    Great movie.

  454. List of great chick flicks:

    Gone With the Wind
    The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
    Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

  455. Those are all great ones JJ. Really great ones. There is a little known political movie called The Contender. Fantastic movie. Rent it if you get a chance with Jeff Bridges and several other excellent actors.

Your hubby and I think alike, Squishy. Shawshank is one of my all time favorite movies and I’ve seen it at least half a dozen times. Love Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. But then I’m a BIG Stephen King fan and the movie was adapted so well from his book.

  457. Dingo,

  458. Hi guys. Favorite movies ever (don’t laugh about the first one and don’t kill me for the second one)

    Sound of Music
    Top Gun

  459. But then Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a BIG Stephen King fan and the movie was adapted so well from his book.

I’m also a big King fan. Well, pre-almost dying Stephen King. He seems to have lost the ability to write after the accident. Anyway, other good adaptions: The Stand, Misery and Dolores Claiborne.

  461. Was it griz, JJ or Carolina who was keeping track of Tayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour date and AI6 shows for possible TH appearance

I actually believe it was Kirsten.

  462. I always cry whenever I watch the Joy Luck Club which is one of my favorite movies of all time.

    SMB,

One of my favorite actors of all time is Morgan Freeman. That man is a class act.

  463. LisaATL Good afternoon dear. I think I’m too old to be your daughter, sister maybe.

Another movie I’ve seen a million times

    Hunt for Red October
actually anything with Sean Connery (sexiest man alive IMO)

I agree, his best work is his early work. I love the early short stories the best; like Skeleton Crew, Half Past Midnight, and Night Shift. Cujo wasn’t my favorite and Pet Sementary was kinda gross. My all time favorite, though, has to be the Gunslinger series. OMG, just love those. They are so amazing, part old Western, part sci-fi. No one tells a story like King.

  465. Kim = Thank you very much for the link to that picture. I see a blonde in a black bra/swimsuit. What’s the fuss? Is she an old gf or something. I seriously doubt Taylor looks at the fan photos anyway.
I still like E better w/shorter hair but the pics are verrry nice.
Colin Firth fans – rent “A Month in the Country”. Just make sure you get the one with CF. I think there are more than 1 flix w/same name. Excellent film about WW1 vet.

  466. I meant Lisa B. Sorry about that. I don’t know how to do the edit thingy.

  467. As a kid my parents bought all the best musicals of the 60 & 70’s including “Sound of Music”, “Westside Story”, “Oliver”, “My Fair Lady”, etc.

I used to know all the words to all the songs.

  468. Pillow propped up behind my back, Oreos and a tall glass of COLD milk, watching:

    You’ve Got Mail
    Sleepless in Seattle

    Life is GOOD

  469. Two movies I watch any time they are on

    Midnight Cowboy
    Saturday Night Fever

    same two as griz…go figure

so I gotta go with Ordinary People

  470. Squishy, I know all the words to all the songs in Sound of Music and I also know all the dialogue. My husband has to keep telling me to be quiet whenever we watch it LOL.

Another favorite that I’ve seen a million times is Forrest Gump. I also have the soundtrack which has some great old music.

  471. Earlier Metta mentioned movies. I saw The Queen and it was excellent. I’d highly recommend it. Didn’t see the other two she mentioned.

  472. Missy,

I agree. Meg Ryan love story movies are so fun to watch on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

  473. My all time favorite, though, has to be the Gunslinger series. OMG, just love those. They are so amazing, part old Western, part sci-fi. No one tells a story like King.

Oh I agree, I loved the gunslinger series. My favorite short story, actually, probably my favorite work of his of all time, was the short story, You Know They’ve Got a Hell of a Band.

    Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve Got Mail
    Sleepless in Seattle

I just looooovvvvveeee, the sappy Tom Hanks movies.

  474. Another favorite that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen a million times is Forrest Gump

Oh my dear little deb, you know I love you. If I wasn’t getting ready to go to a wine drinking party with my best friend (Chris fan, but no one is perfect) I could really have a field day with that.

  475. Little Debbi,

I forgot about Forrest Gump. I saw that movie on a date and I watched it all over again by myself the next day cuz it is sooo good.

Another movie I saw on a date was Silence of the Lambs. Very excellent but trips you out a little.

  476. My latest tearjerker on TV was the Denny Duquene death on Grey’s Anatomy.

I still have not recovered from that one. Damn he was gorgeous, what a smile.

Well, prepare yourself to relive this scene all over again. I watch it and weep and I remember lying in a hospital bed just like the one Izzy was lying in next to Denny and holding his lifeless body thinking, I cant let go cause if I let go then he will be dead but he was already dead and not realizing how the mind can play tricks on you when its under stress.

    —————————————-

I know I’ve read that one but it’s been too long. The most memorable short story (for it’s queasiness factor) for me was the short story “Lady Fingers,” where a surgeon gets shipwrecked on an island and finally resorts to eating his own flesh, starting with those tasty fingers. Ymmmm.

  478. Had to get in on the movie discussion; Little Debbie I agree with The Sound of Music and couldn’t believe no one had mentioned it yet. I also love Pride of the Yankees. And the guilty pleasure that I hate to admit I’ve see multiple times, Breakfast Club (don’t laugh)!

  479. Hate and I mean hate the Yankees, but The Pride of the Yankees is a great and I mean great baseball movie. Fear Strikes Out is also good.
But my favorite baseball movie is Fever Pitch. Nothing beats a good movie with the Red Sox as a backdrop. I loved the scene in the restaurant after a tough loss to the Yanks. I think it was Veritek and Johnny Damon eating dinner and laughing acting like there wasn’t a care in the world. Jimmy Fallon sees this and becomes very upset. That would be like Taylor and Chris eating dinner while two famous fangirls from MJs Place going at it and then seeing their two idols having a great time together.

(if my facts are wrong, im going on memory and not wiki or google)

  480. Don’t you think Daisies are the friendliest flowers?

Yep, can’t beat Meg & Tom IMO.

  481. SMB,

Who are your favorite authors and books. Is Stephen King one of your favorite authors?

  482. Stephen King’s The Stand was, IMHO, the best book he ever wrote and easily makes my top 5 best/greatest reads of all time for me. “Captains and Kings” by Taylor caldwell being my very favorite book EVER.

  483. Dingo – I love Seabisuit also. Another movie where I embarrassed myself and stood up and cheered in the movie theatre.

I also LOVED ShawShank. I saw it the first night that it came out because nothing else was playing at the movie theatre (small town) and hadn’t heard anything about it. The whole movie theatre stood up and cheered at the end.

(And if anyone else is noticing a correlation between cheering in movie theatres and me… I swear I didn’t start the ShawShank one :>))

I also really like the Cars movie by Disney. I love the message of slowing down and realizing what things are important. If I didn’t like it, I would have hung myself by now, my 3 year old boy is OBSESSED with this movie. Every time he goes anywhere he makes car noises and says “I lightening. I fast!!”

I also LOVE Sound of Music. One of the things on my list of things to do before I die is to run down the hills in Switzerland singing those songs. My DH says I am going to bust my tail doing it, but I will do it someday.

  484. Go ahead JJ, I’m thick skinned and could use a good laugh. Have fun at the party.

  485. 3 that were great, GREAT films, but I could only watch once because they were too wrenching or just too heavy a subject matter:

Dances with Wolves (The end of that still makes me cry. Just thinking about it!)
    Schindler’s List
    American Beauty

  486. O.K. Some more old favorites.

    Gigi (love Maurice Chevalier sp)

A Star is Born (the Streisand one) Evergreen was a beautiful song)

    The Way We Were

  487. Another movie I saw on a date was Silence of the Lambs.

Oh, my dear squishy, great film, but not exactly a date movie. Is this the guy you married???

Stephen Kingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s The Stand was, IMHO, the best book he ever wrote and easily makes my top 5 best/greatest reads of all time for me.

Now we are talking out of the right side of our brain!!!!!!

But my favorite baseball movie is Fever Pitch

dave, you are still hot, but if you were female, you would know that that movie is a remake of a film staring Colin Firth. That movie (and actually the Nick Hornby book) made me an Arsenal fan.

  488. My DH will not admit it but he knows all the words to all the songs of Sound of Music as well.

His family watched it every year his whole life.

  489. Well, better late than NEVER to the Party..
Favorite movies that I love and have watched many times over and over again..

    Godfather I and II
    Pride and Predjudice.. BBC Production
    Legends of the Fall
    Immortal Beloved
    Primal Fear.

And my request to Taylor would be for him to sing to me some YELLOW MOON..

BTW..Hope everyone is having a GREAT afternoon especailly since CHRIS
has been offically declared a Savior…

  490. JJ,

I didn’t marry the guy who took me on a date to see Silence of the Lambs. I think the guy just wanted to get me scared or something :wink_wp:

  491. How come no one mentioned Field of Dreams in the baseball category.

Do we not like Kevin Costner?

  492. Terms of Endearment is a double kleenex box movie, it was fanfuckingtastic and written by Larry McMurty who also wrote Lonsome Dove. I generally speaking don’t like westerns but that book and that made for tv movie were fanfuckingastic as well.

The movie was so authentic htat the dust and dirt came out of the cowboy’s clothes and the snake scene was a scene I will never forget right yp there with the Psycho shower scene. The casting was nothing short of brilliant. Tommy Lee Jones,Robert Duval,Danny Glover,Diane Kane and Anjelica Huston..fabulous movie and McMurty is an awesome writer.

  493. I think the guy just wanted to get me scared or something

Ha, sounds like you did good getting away from him!!!

Do we not like Kevin Costner?

    Actually, no.

    SMB,

Who are your favorite authors and books. Is Stephen King one of your favorite authors?

    ——————————-

Oh gawd, I’m crazy for King and have been ever since my feckless youth. I also like Grisham. Never have been into romance novels. Also loved All The Presidents Men. I’m into historical nonfiction too. I’m an ardant liberal Democrat and do enjoy an occasional rag book on ole’ Bushy from time to time.

    What do you like?

  495. Dingo: My latest tearjerker on TV was the Denny Duquene death on Greyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Anatomy.

I was glad when they FINALLY wrote Denny out. That relationship was ruining the show. That was all so unrealistic. Everybody’s reaction to her cutting the LVAD line was so stupid. The entire storyline required brilliant surgeons to be COMPLETE idiots. I kind of hope the other guy dies (guy who was supposed to get the heart) and his family sues Izzie for the 8 million. Sorry.

You’re going to call me a robot again, aren’t you?

  496. Oh gawd, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m crazy for King and have been ever since my feckless youth.

Hey, how about that!!!! Squishy and I agree on something!!!! Wouldn’t it be totally bizarre if we have the same favorite for Season 6??

Yes, Emeralgem! Redemption is at hand! :happy_tb:

  498. Two more oldies

    On Golden Pond

    To Sir With Love

Actually, I read in the paper today that Oprah’s newest book club thing is a biography on Sidney Poitier. Sounded like an interesting book.

  499. Schindler’s List really hits you like a ton of bricks.

Because of that movie I got really interested in the history of the Holocaust. When I was in Washington DC for a conference, I visited the Holocaust museum which is the best museum I have ever been to.

I went there 2 days in a row. The second day I sat down and just listened to all the stories of all the survivors and what they went through.

    Very chilling experience…

  500. dave: But my favorite baseball movie is Fever Pitch.

Baseball? Wasn’t that a football (soccer) movie/book? (movie starring Colin Firth….the movie during which Bridget Jones interviewed him). BTW I liked that other Nick Hornsby movie, High Fidelity. It also got me to really think about how to create a perfect mix taped.

  501. Here’s an NPR radio interview with Ruben (circa 2004) which discusses American Idol, his background in a gospel group, and the music industry.

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1832619

Interesting to note that (1) Ruben’s album sold at $18.99 instead of at a deep discount like recent Idols; and (2) his concert tour was described as being nearly sold out…a statement which was later contradicted by PollStar reports.

  502. Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to call me a robot again, arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t you?

LOL Kirsten, its worse than that.

    I LOVED that episode.

Denny had one of the best smiles EVER.

  503. I’m going to name two, though I wouldn’t say they are my all-time, all-time favorites in all the world, they moved me to tears no matter how many times I watched. One, a TV mini-series:

Lonesome Dove – there may never be anyone who can top Robert Duvall in that series.

Beloved Infidel – Gregory Peck – who knew he was so handsome and sensitive

Okay, I’ve got to go brave the crowd at the grocery store (why do I ever go on Saturday?) :(

  504. Yes, Emeralgem! Redemption is at hand!
    ——————————

Not for me…I’ll take my chances elsewhere.

  505. Hey JJ. Are you still here? Go ahead with the Forrest Gump comments.

Hey what the heck was the name of the movie theater on Wood Avenue? I can’t remember.

  506. Dingo: Denny had one of the best smiles EVER.

    Denny needed a bath.

(where the hell did that bunny slipper come from…scared the carp out of the dog).

  507. I thought that Brad Pitt was soooo beautiful as Tristan in Legends of the Fall :redface_wp:

  508. Just saw The Holiday at the theater. It’s a great romantic comedy. I’m a new Jude Law fan. I will be buying it and watching it more than 3 times. Does that count Dingo?

Just saw a Sundance lookalike in the grocery store. Please tell me that look is not the new thing. This guy was kinda working it though.

BBC Pride & Prejudice is incredible. Everybody should see that. And Colin Firth taking a swim…whoa

Morgan Freeman lives up the road from me, and I only hear good things about him. He’s done a lot for our state. He’s one of my fav actors too.

  509. Denny needed a bath.

    GASP!!

(where the hell did that bunny slipper come fromà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦scared the carp out of the dog).

Glares at you. That bunny slipper is in a place you would need a fucking mirror to see.

  510. Delta, if it aint a movie then it doesnt count dammit. cant you kids follow directions? not to worry Delta, yer in good company today.

  511. John Houston (I think that is his name) movies were great!

    Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, etc.

  512. jenniferg72: I also LOVE Sound of Music. One of the things on my list of things to do before I die is to run down the hills in Switzerland singing those songs.

Actually, it was Austria. If you ever get to Salzburg, there are tonnes of tour companies that will take you on a “Sound of Music” tour which will visit sites used to film the movie. Naturally, they encourage you to sing along to the soundtrack between stops. Most hostels play the movie every night.

Oh, yah, and Mozart was born there too.

  513. I know all the words and lines to Sound of Music. LOL I went to the premier as a teen and have seen it almost every year since, and I still love it.

I love the Walmart movie, as I call it, “Where The Heart Is” and “Love Comes Softly”. I have seen both everytime it is on TV and I don’t have anything else to watch.

“Lonesome Dove” is fantastic. Hubby and I love Westerns.

    I loved “Live Is Beautiful”.

“Dreammgirls” was good, but I don’t care to watch it again. It was a one timer for me.

I love “Seabiscuit”. We bought it and have watched it at home a couple of times.

  514. Hey JJ. Are you still here? Go ahead with the Forrest Gump comments.

Hey what the heck was the name of the movie theater on Wood Avenue? I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember.

    RUN DEBBI RUN!!!

WEak, but no time to think

    The Plaza.

  515. LOL Dingo. I hesitated to admit it but then I figured, what the hell, I don’t know any of you people! :laugh_tb:

    Pretty Woman (julia roberts)
    Top Gun (tom cruise)

Oh gawd, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m crazy for King and have been ever since my feckless youth.

Hey, how about that!!!! Squishy and I agree on something!!!! Wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it be totally bizarre if we have the same favorite for Season 6??

    —————————————

Oh, JJ, that was me you quoted above, being crazy about King. Alas, it appears you still don’t have anything in common with Squishy. :down_tb:

  520. Kirsten-I know you are being cute but I never saw the original version. I was speaking of the Farrelly Bros americanized version of Fever Pitch. :grin1_ee:

Favorite detective TV show of all time-The Rockford Files.

  521. rita416: I love the Walmart movie, as I call it, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Where The Heart Isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Love Comes Softlyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I have seen both everytime it is on TV and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have anything else to watch.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Lonesome Doveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is fantastic. Hubby and I love Westerns.

Rita, it’s hard to describe Lonesome Dove. Watch it about once a year and it’s almost like I never saw it before.

We got “Love Comes Softly” and “Where the Heart is” as Christmas presents this year from someone who works in a Christian Book Store, and I think I’ll buy the other two of that series. Love Comes Softly was beautiful! I really liked it better than Where the Heart is.

    Now I’m gone. :)

  522. JJ

Yes, The Plaza. Did you ever sneak in that door in the front on the right hand side. I don’t think I ever paid to see a movie in Linden. We would all chip in and buy one ticket, then that person would go in and open that side door. Such a sweet and innocent childhood.

  523. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s based purely on units, and while that speaks volumes in the industry,

I agree with your quote above. The industry does want to pull in units because it’s a business. But I would like to add that the industry DOES respects talent.. One of the many reason why the singers from AI is not given any real respect in the industry except for when they sell cds. It’s clear that they don’t care for them because AI never let their real talent shine. AI is about cd sales and cd sales means money. No business is going to turn down money. The industry cannot run on just sheer talent alone. You do need those who you can easily package for some quick cd sales. One of the reasons why Britney was always hyped for her cd sales but gained very little respect in the industry for her talent. That honor always went to Christina A. Who was always behind her in cd sales.

Another example of talent vs. sales is Fantasia. She is not blowing anyone out of the waters with her cd sales, as far as, the AI cd sales competition is concerned but she has managed to garner a whole lot of respect from those inside the industry.

Honestly, Fantasia had already earned that respect while Kelly Clarkson had to earn that same respect through cd sales. I’m take nothing away from Kelly but when you have artist who have been in the industry longer than you and have accomplished more than you lining up to have you perform or do a duet with them, IMO, that speaks volumes. Fantasia had that kind of respect long before she dropped a single cd.

That is my hope for other AI artists like Bo and Taylor. Cd sales will take care of themselves in time. Gain the respect of your peers though your art and talent and not just cd sales. Have them line up to have you perform for them and sing with them regardless of your sales. The industry can tell the difference between those who will gain respect for their ability to sell cds and those who will gain respect for having some real talent. The cd sellers will get their instant praises but in the end, the talent will always outlast the cd sales..

  524. Hi everyone.

Dingo, I LOVED Denny. So darn gorgeous!

He was also on the show Supernatural. But, he died on that show as well.

The scene when he died on Grey’s Anatomy did me in.
I was balling like a baby!

I hope everyone is doing well today.

  525. dave, I LOVE the Rockford Files. I can hear that music now. That tune is one of my favorite show songs.

  526. I love à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Seabiscuità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . We bought it and have watched it at home a couple of times.

Rita, I love that movie and have the DVD and have watched it many many times. What I love about it is that you can hear the horse breathing in some scenes. the sound and the visuals are magnificent. The last scene from that movie makes me cry every time. My guy used ta shake his head and smile at me and then he would hug me and say….the horse is ok Dingo, he goes on to live a long and happy life.

    Bwahahahahaha!

  527. Rita …love the Walmart movie “Where the heart is” I think I have seen that 4 or 5 times.

Kirsten….love the Sound of Music is one of my all time favorite.

Pride and Prej… new movie version I have never seen the PBS 5 hour one. I was told it was the best.

  528. You know, you are exactly right about Denny’s smile, Dingo.

His smile did the same thing to me that Taylor’s does.

    Very swoon=worthy.

  529. LOVE Rockford Files. LOVE James Garner. What was the name of the movie he was in with, I think it was Sally Field, where he played an older love interest?

  530. SMB,

I don’t have a favorite for Season 6 and probably won’t have one. If Jenry makes it to Top 12, then I probably just root for him but voting is pointless.

I would like to see Jenry sing week to week cuz he is such a cutie pie.

  531. Talking about the BB review of JTFTW being a a Country music hit……….the Cmas Jam with Marty Stewart and Warren Haynes. This is a perfect example of the variety of the country music sound today and how Taylor’s voice can be expressed in this genre.

  532. Delta, Colin Firth is one of my facorite actors..
I also love Sir Anthony Hopkins and Robert DeNiro… but I’m old so that is to be expected..

  533. BBC P&P owns the Keira Knightley version just b/c Colin Firth cannot be duplicated. However, if short on time and wanting a good Jane Austen flick, the KK P&P is beautiful cinematography and a nicely condensed storyline.

I also love the PBS Anne of Green Gables movies with Megan Follows.

As for animation, I really liked The Incredibles. Cars is good too.

My hubby is beyond gaga for the LOTR movies and Chronicles of Narnia so I’ve watched those all quite a few times…

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that was gooooddddddd.

  535. TAKE A SWIG!!

    Bottoms up!

    :drunk_tb:

  536. dingo: Glares at you. That bunny slipper is in a place you would need a fucking mirror to see.

Nice try. I know you’ve already got one wedged up JJ’s a$$ and the other one is winging it’s way towards metta.

“I know what you’re thinking, punk. ‘Did she throw two slippers or only one?’ Well, to tell you the truth, I’ve forgotten myself in all this excitement. But being as this is a set of Dingo (TM) bunny slippers, the most powerful slippers in the world, and would blow your a$$ clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself a question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”

    I feel lucky!

  537. Some great movies being brought up. Dingo, I also think The Stand was the best SK book and how about Carrie and Christine for early movies? And I love The Breakfast Club too and Speed for some reason. I think cause I have ridden those blue buses that are featured.
Along with Schindlers List, one of the hardest movies to watch would be The Pianist with Adrien Brody.
Good Grisham based movies, especially A Time to Kill, and The Pelican Brief. How about Giant or Blackboard Jungle!
The theatre handed out tissues before you went in to see Love Story back in the day. Magnificent Obsession? Or Ghost. Dr. Zhivago was a great one too.

  538. I love LOTR but I gotta tell ya. I was disapointed in the last one. Very anti climatic I thought.

    I feel lucky!

    Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!

    Fucking hillarious Kirsten!

You win. I can never top that one. LMAO!

  541. Who couldn’t like a good John Hughes 80s movie? In college, we had to watch the Breakfast Club for discussion in our Small Group Communications class.

LOTR…love ’em all but the 3 different endings for the last one really was overkill IMO. Just end it already!

Jaysus, good think he aint waitin’ on them ta play his music to get rich thats for sure. At this rate I wont get a buzz on till 2008.

  543. One of my favorite movies is ‘When Harry met Sally’.

I also love Casablanca, Charade, The Philadelphia Story and Notorious.

I like old movies. I am a huge fan of Gary Grant, Gary Cooper, Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart.

  544. Stefunny,

My favorite books as a child were Lord of the Rings (which is still my favorite of all time) followed by Chronicles of Narnia and then Watership Down.

As a result, I LOVE the Lord of the Rings movies. Very well done by the director. Could NOT have been made as well 10 years ago.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe movie was disappointing.

    Jan 27th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
I like all your movies…madaboutu. Call me for a movie some time.

  546. You kids are killin’ me with the movies today. I have a list a mile long.

Though the TWO maximum rule went straight to hell, you all have given me some really good titles.

  547. kylovestaylor,

“When Harry Met Sally” is my favorite movie of all time. I just love that movie. I own the DVD and watch it every Christmas time.

  548. Switching over to books. Anyone else like James Michener?

As for T.V. miniseries (and book for that matter), anyone else love The Thorn Birds. I was so depressed when I found out Richard Chamberlain was gay. Also loved him in Shogun and loved the book.

  549. Great discussion!!

Kirsten – LOL not sure why I wrote Switzerland, I knew it was Austria. Brain fart, lol!

I am totally tone deaf but tried out for the part of one of the Von Trap kids 3 times at the little theatre in our town. I can’t believe that no one told me how bad I sounded.

  550. For a completely stupid, mindless popcorn movie watch The Transporter.

Two other good, quirky movies are Little Miss Sunshine and Adaptation with Nicolas Cage.

  551. Hey Jenniferg72. I was going to tell a similar story. When I was a kid, I tried out for a part in an off Broadway version of Sound of Music. They told me I got the part and we were starting to have a discussion with my agent and their PTB and this chick walked in that looked exactly like Heidi. Needless to say, they told me to leave and not call them. Yes the music business is very cut throat. And it was especially hard for a kid. To this day, I don’t handle rejection very well at all.

  552. Squishy.
I am glad you like ‘When Harry Met Sally’.

I have seen it so many times that I know the movie by heart.

Billy and Meg have such great chemistry in that movie.

It still makes me smile, laugh and cry.

Some of the lines are priceless! :grin1_ee:

  553. Neil Young: Heart of Gold was a surprisingly good movie.

Last scene, as the credits roll, Neil’s alone on stage playing ‘The Old Laughing Lady,’ a song that he wrote and performed almost 40 years ago a song that history had forgotten.

  554. Okay…sad movie…had all the teenage girls weeping when we saw it in history class (our teacher was lazy):

    Gallipoli

    Peter Weir directed

  555. I guess this is where I will brave the cold and go to the store.

Movie topic is my worst subject. The last movie I saw was Dreamgirls and the one before that was a Steven Tyler’s movie early last year. I think it was Madia goes to Jail. I have a thing for comedy…

My favorite animations are Bambi, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. Favorite movies of all time, I will say, Ghost and Grease.. Don’t ask why because I don’t know..

    I’ll be BACK..

  556. Dave ~ Any guy who cried at Terms of Endearment–on a date, no less!–is A-ok in my book. Ray who?

I hated LOTR with the passion of a thousand burning gnomes or whatever the f*ck they were. My husband and I walked out after only 20 minutes and I’m still bitter because I want that damn 20 minutes back.

  557. A movie that I thought was going to be really dumb but ended up being one of my favorite movies of all time was Raiders of the Lost Ark.

My family was on vacation in Los Angeles (when I used to live in Sacramento) and it was a super hot day. We were in Hollywood checking out the hand prints of the stars at the Chinese Mann theatre. It was soo hot that my parents said lets just go to the movies here and what was showing was Raiders of the Lost Ark. I did NOT want to see that movie cuz I thought it was dumb.

I was mesmerized from the very opening to the very end.

    What a movie…

  558. Note to self: Watch Little Miss Sunshine…..I hope it comes on PPV soon…..I haven’t been to a movie in about 2 years!

  559. claireb……it is hard to find someone to go to movies that you like isn’t it? I have a friend that I go with but she doesn’t like comedies and I can’t figure that one out, but she and I do the adventure-mystery-legal ones.I have someone else I go to comedies with.
Little Debbi……I like Michener, though even for me he can get so descriptive his books are soooo long. I loved the Thorn Birds too. I love mysteries and gruesome serial killer books but then Maeve Binchey is a favorite too. I guess I just like a good story. Kind of like my music……eclectic I guess.

  560. I’m 55 and we are still watching Lawrence Welk on PBS, and my 35 year old daughter said “Mom, you were watching that every Saturday when I was growing up”. I told her that was nothing, I watched it every Saturday when I was growing up. I miss those good ole days. We are watching Gunsmoke as I type. Good show. We’ve only seen these a bazillion times.

  561. I am totally tone deaf but tried out for the part of one of the Von Trap kids 3 times at the little theatre in our town. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe that no one told me how bad I sounded.

For that, jenniferg72, you needed Simon Cowell. :wink_ee:

  562. Nevada: Hey Kirsten, shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t you be writing song lyrics?

    —————————————

I know what you mean. I’ve considered not even watching this season, which consideration is only bolstered by the fact that my darling cable company no longer carries Fox. Last season was the first time I really became invested in someone (though I loved Fantasia a couple seasons ago). It’s so hard to vote for your favorite and then see the results be so intangible and irrelevant, regardless of the talent of the contestants. If I watch it will be just to sit back and enjoy the contestants and not get emotionally involved. I was able to do that with Fantasia and hopefully can again. Yes, I liked Jenry but I love Sundance and agreed with Simon when he made the comment about Taylor after Sundance’s audition.

  564. Okayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦sad movieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦had all the teenage girls weeping when we saw it in history class (our teacher was lazy):

One of the finest films on the folly of war ever made. Wonderful film!!

Metta- :wub_tb:—It was just a bad time to see that movie, i’m really not that sensitive. Ya right.

Jersey- I looked it up for you. Murphy’s Romance. I never saw it though.

  568. SMB,

I guess we can’t be friends then cuz I am not a Sundance fan…LOL! I like Taylor better than Sundance. I don’t agree with Simon. Sundance may have a more powerful voice than Taylor but Taylor has a better tone in his voice and more charisma.

  569. Internet to revolutionize TV in 5 years: Gates

In the years ahead, more and more viewers will hanker after the flexibility offered by online video and abandon conventional broadcast television, with its fixed program slots and advertisements that interrupt shows, Gates said.

“Certain things like elections or the Olympics really point out how TV is terrible. You have to wait for the guy to talk about the thing you care about or you miss the event and want to go back and see it,” he said.

Rita! I grew up on Lawrence Welk! I haven’t seen it in probably 20 years or more but my grandparents always had it on the tele when I would visit. Loved Guy and Rona! How about that Champagne Lady?! Do you remember all those old shows we watched as children that were such classics? Gunsmoke was one, and then the Waltons, Gilligan’s Island, Hogan’s Heroes, Bewitched, Dark Shadows, Brady Bunch, etc., etc.? Oh, it brings back lotsa memories.

  573. Oh and another thing. What is the general consensus on Mikalah Gordon. I didn’t watch AI then. I’m just curious how she acted, sang etc.

  574. cateye Jan 27th, 2007 at 5:03 pm

    Hey Dingo: :clap_tb:

What do you think of the Libby trial, so far?

Cateye, anything that makes this administration sweat is ok in my book. If they can get to Cheney Im all for it. I just hope its not the same wild goose chase they pulled with Clinton cause though I would be very satisfied, thats NOT how the court system is supposed to be and the prosecutor should never have carte blanche to do what he wants to get any kind of morsel as they did with Clinton. They began the investigation by appointing a special prosecutor to look into the Clinton Whitewater case. They found nothing so they went on to several other “gates” and found nothing until they stumbled upon Clinton getting a BJ from Monica. That aint how things are supposed to run so if this prosecutor works the same way, i will be pissed. He had better have something concrete.

  575. Lawrence Welk! LOL. My mom would watch that and I’d beg to turn it to Hee Haw.

I used to LOVE Sonny and Cher! And Donnie and Marie. Good times!

  576. Old Yeller. I still aint over that movie.

    WTF was my mom thinkin’?

  577. My father watched Lawrence Welk every weekend. We kids had to suffer through those bad hairstyles, horrible attire, and equally bad music.

As an African-American I though it sucked that the only black person on the show was the tap dancer.

However, I do find myself checking out that show from time to time. It is very nostalgic.

  578. carolina: Wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t me BTFan à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a horrible list maker.

  579. Ernest Lehman, who co-wrote “Casablanca,” on being awarded an Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1991:

I appeal to all movie critics and feature writers to please always bear in mind that a film production begins and ends with a screenplay.”

I thought Taylor had a good audition and was soulful and funky but no way could he sing as well as this guy. I don’t care if they don’t have a lot of charisma during the audition because I don’t think that’s a fair representation of who they are. I don’t judge them on that one moment in time when they’re nervous and trying so hard. They grow so much along the way during the process and develop more of their personality as they go, just as Chris did. So, no, he’s better in my book. But if you feel the need to abandon the only other Chris fan that’s on this board today, I’ll be crushed but I understand….. :glurps_tb:
