Sanjaya Malakar Writing a Book to Be Published by Simon and Schuster

From Sanjaya Malakars My Space:

I’m REALLY excited about my new book. It will be published by Simon and Schuster and will be available by the end of the year. It’s a difficult story only because I am reliving my life and the experiences I had on American Idol, and I’m trying to get as much info in there for everyone as possible, without making it sound like a text book. I’m having fun with it though. I’m working with a very talented writer named Alan Goldsher. He’s bringing the writer out in me. How about that, former english teachers of mine.

I have to say, after the poor sales of Taylor Hicks’ memoir “A Heart Full of Soul”, I’m kinda surprised that Simon and Schuster is willing to publish an Idol “life story”.

I can’t imagine anyone outside of Sanjaya’s hardcore fanbase is going to be interested in a memoir by an 19 year old, unless he’s got some crazy, out-of-the ordinary story to tell, or is willing to spill some serious dirt on his American Idol experience.

I read the books by Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks, and neither had very interesting stories to tell. Just think, it’s 4 years later, and Clay’s book already needs a serious re-write.

So yeah, maybe it’s a little too soon for Sanjaya to be committing his “life story” to paper.
