As she teased earlier this week with her social media accounts (first going dark and then posting images of snakes), Taylor Swift dropped a new single today and the market was thirsty. Her “Look What You Made Me Do” quickly ascended to number 1 where it is compressing the charts to an extent one does not normally, if ever, see. Demi is in second and her sales are 0.0685 of Taylor’s. Looks like “Despacito’s” stranglehold on the top of the Hot 100 will be shattered the following week, but it should be able to make it to 16 weeks and tie the longest run.
One of Taylor’s ex-boyfriends, Harry Styles, is at 44 in sales. His fellow bandmate, Niall Horan is featured on Now 63 along with James Arthur and Camila Cabello and the album is now at 4th in sales and 30th in combined. Camila’s former bandmate from the band that was formed on X-Factor, Lauren Jauregui is featured on Halsey’s album at 49th in combined. X-Factor was created by Simon Cowell who was an Idol judge and famously said that Carrie Underwood would go on to be the most successful artist from the franchise and she did and now she is featured in a duet on Keith Urban’s album which is 25th in sales and 41 combined. Also from Idol and who did a duet with Carrie (on the finale) is Lauren Alaina who is featured on Kane Brown’s album at 48th in sales. And that shows the interconnectedness of all things.
