Sales News – Week Ending 01/12/17

January is here and that typically means depressing sales.

“La La Land” won a Golden Globe this weekend as did its stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling (even co-nominee Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield celebrated his win). Now, the soundtrack is headed to the top of the sales chart with an estimated 35K in sales. Streaming will probably obliterate its chances of topping the BB200, but it is currently leading the SPS chart as well.

The rest of the top 10 is dominated by soundtracks/cast albums (Moana, Hamilton, Sing, Trolls) and big name hold-overs like Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, The Rolling Stones, J. Cole and Drake. The Dropkick Murphys (American Celtic Punk) are the top debut of the week.

AGTs Grace Vanderwaal’s album “Perfectly Imperfect” is showing some legs as it is 12th in sales this week. It lacks a single, so it falls to 29th on the combined charts without a lot of help from TEAs and SEAs. Lauren Daigle continues on the sales chart at 36th with “How Can it Be” while Pentatonix can still move those Christmas albums in the new year. “A Pentatonix Christmas” is at 42 followed by their regular season album “Pentatonix” at 46th. Melanie Martinez from The Voice is right behind Pentatonix in sales at 47th and rises to 43rd on the combined chart. That’s amazing for an album that has been out as long as hers and no current single on the radio charts.

Carrie Underwood appears on Keith Urban’s “Ripcord” at 14/25 while Kelly Clarkson has a track on the Hamilton Mixed Tape at 23/48.
