Pia Toscano Talks New Album, Idol Tour – VIDEO

In this Idol press day interview with Lyndsey Parker of Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks blog, Pia Toscano says the American Idols Live! show will be a little different than what we’ve become accustomed to in the past few years.

Pia says there will be a lot of songs and people singing together that the fans won’t expect.

The contestants won’t perform strictly in the order of their elimination. “It doesn’t have to go in the exact order of our elimination.” says Pia, “We all bring something new and creative to the table. I feel like we’re all stars.”

The performance order was mixed up a bit in Season 5 and Season 6.  Runner-up Blake Lewis, closed the first half of the Season 6 show, which featured group numbers throughout the concert.

But I’m wondering if the Season 10 show won’t be more like Season 5. Ninth place finisher, Mandisa, opened the 1st half, followed by a duet with 7th place finisher, Ace Young (not a pairing you would expect!) who followed with his own solo set. Tenth place finisher, Lisa Tucker performed 3rd.  Duets and a quartet  linked the Idols’  solo sets together.   As formats go, I thought it really worked well.

On Pia’s upcoming album, she says she hopes to release something after the tour is over.  There is no promised release date yet,   to expect a pop album, with an R&B influence that will be a mixture of upbeat tunes and “my ballads.”

The kids are singing an acoustic “It’s Not Unusual” in the background. I’m not sure if they are just goofing around or not!
