On GMA, Phillip Phillips totally freaked out high schooler, Carly Meyers, when he responded to her prom proposal via satellite!
The young student , is such a big fan of the American Idol season 11 winner, that she covered his hit “Gone Gone Gone,” changing the words to “Prom Prom Prom” to invite him to the big school dance.
“Phillip, if you’re free May 16 I’ll be the one in the red dress :),” Carly, a senior at Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone, N.J., wrote in the description of the video she uploaded to Youtube earlier this month.
Carly said she wrote the song for fun but “secretly” hoped Phillip would see it. “When I thought of my dream prom date, I just always thought of him,” she said. “I love writing songs. I love his songs. So I thought I’d kind of put it together.”
Introduced as a “fan” by GMA host, Michael Strahan, Carly put her hand over her mouth as Phillip appeared on screen. Calling her prom proposal “incredible” and “lovely,” he sent his regrets, but not without a consolation prize. The singer gifted her and her friends tickets to his July 12 concert in New Jersey, adding that he looked forward to hearing all about her prom!
Phillip will perform as part of GMA’s concert series next month.
