New Year, New Blog

Welcome to the new home of mjsbigblog.   I have a few tweaks to complete here and there, but I would say the construction phase is over. Yay.   Please let me know if you have any problems navigating the site.   Also, suggestions for improvement are encouraged…

I’m happy to be no longer blogging like it was 1999 (bad Prince/New Years reference) The old software, Radio userland had become obsolete, limiting my ability to improve the site.   Plus, the comments section had become so busy (and pretty crazy, quite frankly) that I needed blogging software that gave me more tools to manage a busy site.

Things to note:

  • Registration is required to post in the comments section.  Instructions can be found here.   Comments are part of the WordPress blogging application, so no more Haloscan. I know…the little Haloscan box was unobtrusive and easy to scroll through, but it was light on features. Right now, historical comments are not available.   There was no way to migrate them.   However, I do plan to make them available in the future–as a link on each post.  That’s a big project, so be  patient…
  • Notice the tabs along the bottom of the header.   I’m still constructing these. Guidelines for comments (which I will be re-writing), Billboard Charts and a weekly schedule of Idol appearances will be maintained here.   I’m also working out a plan to post some sort of Idol FAQ here–kind of a one stop shop for information.
  • Major improvements:   Comments can be edited, and there are NEW AND IMPROVED SMILIES. YAY. Looking for a particular post?   There’s a search function on the sidebar.   Also, click on the Archives tab and you’ll find an easily scrollable post index.   The new software allows me to virtually blog from anywhere, I’ll be able to do my own play-by-plays when I’m on the road. Plus, the WordPress development community (unlike Radio userland) is a busy one.  I’m just beginning to dig into the functionality of the software.   There will be features and improvements added to the site on an ongoing basis.

Please let me know if you have any problems.  Thanks for your patience this week. I promise the down time will be worth it.   I’m REALLY looking forward to Season 6, are you? Heh.
