Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Nov 30-Dec 6

An impressive 8 milestones this week – Santa comes early this December.

Let’s start with season 8 and third place finisher, Danny Gokey. Danny managed to get two milestones this week with both songs skipping over a milestone or two. “Lift Up Your Eyes” went from top 30 on CAC to top 10 (usually we remark on songs going top 20 and top 15) while his “Mary, Did You Know” went from top 40 on CAC to top 20. Both are from his latest Christmas album.

Staying on CAC, we have Lauren Daigle repeating the same feat. She was an auditioner on Idol and has had success on the Christian music front. Her “Light of the World” went from top 30 to top 15 while “Noel” from Chris Tomlin on which she is featured went from top 30 to top 10.

Also skipping milestones this week is season 4 winner Carrie Underwood (nominated for a Grammy for “Little Toy Guns” from her Greatest Hits album) . Her second single from her latest album is “Heartbeat” and it debuts in the top 40 on Country.

Back to Season 8 and the man who finished one higher than Danny for second, Adam Lambert. He is working his second single from his third album. This week, “Another Lonely Light” went top 50 in Pop and it also continues at top 30 on HAC.

Back to the Idol Auditioners and we have Tori Kelly who was just nominated for a BNA Grammy (go Tori!). She is featured on a track from India.Arie and Joe Sample called “Perfect Time” the song debuted in the top 50 of Urban AC this week.

Finally, we have Pentatonix’s “Joy to the World” moving into the top 20 on AC. This is from her highly successful Christmas album….which leads us to the albums.

Billboard reports that that Christmas album from Pentatonix (“That’s Christmas to Me”) is third on the BB200 album this week. The album was originally released last year and became the Christmas album of the year. This year, with some additional bonus tracks, it looks set to repeat that accomplishment. It sold 94K.

Right below them are One Direction and “Made in the A.M.” with 82K in sales. That’s a 25% drop which is low for a second-to-third week drop (typically 40%). Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller climbs back into the top 10 to 7th with 48K (51% increase).

Adele continues to be the story of the season as she shatters all records. She is the first artist to sell 1.1M in her second week and to spend two consecutive weeks selling more than 1M. She is re-writing the history books. She know has the top and second selling digital albums of all time (“21” is tops so far). Justin Bieber follows in her wake with numbers which exceed expectations.
