Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Jan 12-18

There are six Mediabase Milestones this week – three from the original receipe Idol and four milestones are debuts.

Kelly Clarkson is a superstar. Let nobody doubt that. Her much anticipated new single stomped all over the charts this week debuting on all three mainstream charts (even AC didn’t want to wait until the song got old and moldy and discarded by its more popular/current siblings). Radio will give a superstar spins the instant they release a new song – the new song has to be decent to keep those spins though, so the next weeks will be telling (a loss of spins won’t be unprecedented this week because radio stations typically go nuts the first day). “Heartbeat Song” debuted in the top 15 on AC, top 20 on HAC and top 40 on Pop. As expected, HAC is likely the song’s home format with it earning 1895 spins in its first official week on that format. AC spun it 372 times (it is a smaller format) and Pop 1093.

Carrie Underwood, the other superstar from Idol, also gets a milestone with her “Greatest Hits” anchoring single “Something in the Water” going top 30 on CAC. The song is also in the top 3 on Country waiting its turn for the top of the chart. Danny Gokey from the still hotly debated Season 8 also gets a milestone on CAC with “More Than You Think I Am” going top 40.

Fifth Harmony, probably the closest thing to superstars X-Factor US ever produced, has been doing well with their “Sledgehammer” on Pop where the song is in the top 20. It debuted this week on HAC in the top 50. Fifth Harmony always gets a lot of chatter on social media and often ends up on the BB Social chart.
