Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Feb 8-14

A number of Idols flirted with new milestones this week, but by the time the dust settled for the published charts, it was not to be. But, these are the Idols and they will not be denied so we still have a trio of accomplishments.

Kelly Clarkson’s megahit “Already Gone” went to top 5 on the AC chart. For those keeping score at home, that means that the song has gone top 5 on 3 different formats. The song is currently top 5 in 2 formats. Meanwhile, Daughtry has achieved yet another top 5 hit on the Hot AC chart while Kellie Pickler has gone top 15 on the Country chart. That gives us two Idols in the top 15 on country chart and two Idols in the top 5 on HAC.

But all the news is not good. Kelly’s song did go recurrent on the pop chart while Jordin’s “Battlefield” went recurrent on AC. It’s not terrible news because it’s a good achievement to go recurrent, but it does mean that Jordin is disappearing from our chart.

Here are your Monday Morning Mediabase Updates for airplay as of 8:49 pm of 02/14/10 after the jump (trying to be consistent with the peaks and Idol Chatter).

LLWD is #15 on today’s Mediabase chart. It has to hold on for a week though to be official. Lots of hot songs breathing down its neck.

  4. This may be a dumb question, but how is it that both Daughtry’s ‘Life After You’ and Kelly’s ‘Already Gone’ are both listed at #5 on the HAC chart? Is this a misprint, or is it possible for songs to tie? Just curious.

  5. Is this a misprint, or is it possible for songs to tie? Just curious.

Misprint. I have two entries for Kelly on HAC. The first one (4) is the right one. The second one is for AC. So, Kelly is at 5 on AC (and 4 on HAC) and Daughtry is at 5 on HAC (and 4 on AC, but for a different song). Chart domination by those two.

    I’ll fix it.

My iTunes shows We Are the World at #1. Are there two different versions?

Oops. I mixed up the two versions (I have the listing for the original one). I’ll fix that too.

    Thanks for the updates!

  6. LLWD is #15 on today’s Mediabase chart. It has to hold on for a week though to be official. Lots of hot songs breathing down its neck.

Congrats, Kris on reaching #15!!! Blah, Blah, Blah is definitely moving up fast, and will probably pass LLWD this week; however, Watcha Say and Jay Z are moving down, so LLWD has a very good chance of passing them. The fetus is giving LLWD some competition right now, but unless the spins take off LLWD can probably hold it off for another week.

LLWD is sooooo close to Top 5 on HAC, but there is some stiff competition from Daughtry (LLWD is 24 spins away) and John Mayer (LLWD is 21 spins ahead). At the current pace, LLWD should pass Already Gone, but could get passed by John Mayer.

WWFM should pass Jay Z and Rihanna this week, but has Lady Antebellum breathing down its neck on Pop. Still a nice week over week increase in Pop spins. Also, WWFM should pass several songs this coming week, with nothing threatening to pass it, so I would not be surprised if it jumped several spots on the HAC chart by the end of next week.

Congrats to all of the IDOLS on their chart placement!

  7. Both Adam and Kris charting in the Phillipines according to Sony:

Sony Music Philippines: Adam Lambert is still at the top of the charts this week. http://bit.ly/byWmrv

  8. From Brian at Idolchatter

“While Danny Gokey saw an increase for My Best Days Are Ahead of Me, his single slipped out of the Country top 40 to 41, as new singles from Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Luke Bryan and George Strait leapfrogged him”

Although Danny slipped out of the top 40 this week due to being passed by some heavyhitters, I expect him to get his spot in the top 40 back next week as several if not more songs on the country chart should go recurrent. He retained his bullet and hopefully will get more adds this week.

  9. the addboards are working today (even tho holiday)..as of this early hour, llwd has 2 canada top 40 and 1 us hac; wwfm has 2 canada hac, 1 canada top 40 (another toronto stataion) and 3 us top 40 (incl. detroit)…..hopefully they will keep on coming

  10. it is nice to see Jason’s single still hanging in there, especially since it has been given such little promotion:
    Jason Castro:
“Let’s Just Fall in Love”: ^46 HAC (48)

  11. Congrats to Chris D and Kelly for going Top 5 on Hot AC and AC, respectively. I’m hoping next week Kris will be Top 5 on Hot AC and Top 15 on Pop and Adam will be Top 20 on Pop, but none of that is a given. Are there any songs ahead of Kris and Adam on Pop chart that could go recurrent next week?

I was wondering why Danny had fallen out of the Top 40, so thanks for the explanation. Hopefully he will move back up next week. Anyone know if there are many new singles y big country stars being released in the next few weeks that could block him?

The chart for the Philippines is interesting in terms of how well BWCU is doing for Kris. I wonder if 19/Jive will take this into account when deciding on a 2nd single?

  12. I noticed that Allison’s “Scars” is listed as a Hot Track on that chart for the Philippines. I always thought that song would be a good choice as her next single…

  13. Are there any songs ahead of Kris and Adam on Pop chart that could go recurrent next week?

    From Pulse Music Board:

Eligible to go recurrent THIS week (02/14):
    David Guetta ft. Akon

Eligible to go recurrent NEXT week (02/21):
    Nothing

Eligible to go recurrent in TWO weeks (02/28):
    Britney Spears
    Shinedown

Eligible to go recurrent in THREE weeks (03/07):
    Nothing

Eligible to go recurrent in FOUR weeks (03/14):
    Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys
    Kesha (“TiK Toc”)

  14. the addboards are working today (even tho holiday)..as of this early hour, llwd has 2 canada top 40 and 1 us hac; wwfm has 2 canada hac, 1 canada top 40 (another toronto stataion) and 3 us top 40 (incl. detroit)…..hopefully they will keep on coming

I’m not sure….I’ve seen these adds since before the weekend since they’re dated 2/12 (I think), so I wonder if there will be more adds with the holiday. I’m with you – I hope so.

  15. Anyone have any guesses on what the sales figures for LLWD and WWFM will look like when they are released Wed.? I’m thinking another 50+K for Kris, since LLWD was sitting between 15-18 on iTunes all week. And somewhere in the low to mid-40K for WWFM.

it is nice to see Jason’s single still hanging in there, especially since it has been given such little promotion:
    Jason Castro:
“Let’s Just Fall in Love”: ^46 HAC (48)

Yay Jason!!! I think it was posted here somewhere, but his song is featured in the new overstock.com TV commercials, so it’s getting some national exposure, finally! Also, I’ve heard it playing in Hollister which also features its music on TV monitors in the store while they’re playing. Go Jason!

  17. The chart for the Philippines is interesting in terms of how well BWCU is doing for Kris. I wonder if 19/Jive will take this into account when deciding on a 2nd single?

I wonder who in the Philippines decided this was the “second single,” there (or third, maybe, since I think Heartless was also a hit there)? Or how it was decided. It’s doing great, considering it’s not actually the ‘official’ second single.

  18. Today is President’s Day, a US Federal Holiday

Come on Cumulus, let’s see an add for WWFM this week!

  19. Laury
Today is President’s Day (combination of Wahington’s & Lincoln’s birthdays). But more importantly, it is my mama’s birthday (which should be a holiday in itself, right?)

  20. @girlygirl and @sr4mjc: Thanks for the answer!

girlygirl Happy Brithday to your mama !!!! :)

  21. Are there any songs ahead of Kris and Adam on Pop chart that could go recurrent next week?

Don’t for get these (from Az over at Pulse):

Going recurrent when they fall below #20 (Weeks in Top 40):
    Iyaz (21)
    Jason Derulo (“Whatcha Say”) (26)
    Jay Sean (“Down”) (29)
    Kelly Clarkson (24)
    Owl City (21)

Songs going recurrent can no longer help Kris since he’s already in the top 20.

  22. Wow, HAC has definitely become the AI playground. That’s crazy, you have Kelly, Kris, Daughtry, Adam, Carrie and even Castro charting. I bet between those current tunes and recurrents, you could hear an AI alum every five minutes on HAC.

Added note of random WTF?ness, for posterity sake: According to DCO, Cookie’s CBTM snuck back into the iTunes top 300 last week after the Tim Urban cover aired. It went as high as 107, I think, and didn’t drop out of the top 300 again until yesterday. That has to be one of the oddest Idol bumps ever.

  23. Anyone have any guesses on what the sales figures for LLWD and WWFM will look like when they are released Wed.? I’m thinking another 50+K for Kris, since LLWD was sitting between 15-18 on iTunes all week. And somewhere in the low to mid-40K for WWFM.

That is a good question! We are the World has totally dominated ITunes for the past few days, and this weekend is a holiday where many people travel for an extended time, so I wonder if there will be an overall decline for sales of digital singles.

  24. Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want From Me” moves Top 20 and tests #2 with 18-34 females in RatetheMusic.com

Brought this over from Brians Idol chatter

Idols are doing super on the charts.Good luck to all.

  25. I had Z100 on last night tryng to call in to win Adam tickets for tonight….didn’t win :((((
Anyhow, Z100 played WWFM with a heavy dance/disco beat. WTH!?!? Why did they do that? Does Adam give permission for that? How/why do they do that?

  26. Anyhow, Z100 played WWFM with a heavy dance/disco beat. WTH!?!? Why did they do that? Does Adam give permission for that? How/why do they do that?

It sounds like they remixed his song, which is commonly done on Z100. I’ve heard a lot of their remixes, but not this one. My understanding is the artists do get compensated when their song is remixed. Not sure of the permission process, though.

  27. I wonder if they played one the of remixes that will be on the EP. Maybe it’s coming out soon. I can’t wait to hear Voodoo, I think Adam said it would be on the EP of remixes.

Would Cumulus Add today or tomorrow if they were going to?

  28. Kirsten, thanks for correcting the recurrent song post!!! I guess it’s good news and bad news that it doesn’t affect LLWD — good that LLWD is in the Top 20, but bad that recurrents won’t help improve that ranking!

  29. yea there seems to be a lack of adds today, im guessing bc of prez’s day?

sr4mjc-cumulus adds top 40 on tuesdays, but dont hold your breath, im sure they will pass adam blatanly and adds songs underneath him

  30. I’m with you cakeygirl, I don’t think Cumulus will add the song either. :( I don’t know why I keep hoping, eternal optimism I guess.

  31. yea there seems to be a lack of adds today, im guessing bc of prez’s day?

IDK if that is the reason, or if the adds usually get posted late afternoon? Mediabase HAC indicates that only around 29% of the reports are in, so maybe we will hear more later. Hopefully there are adds on the report once it’s final!

  32. Looks like WWFM just got 2 Top 40 adds, including Detroit, & 1 HAC add. That’s good news for Adam. Add reports are still coming in, I guess.

  33. All the Idols are looking great on those charts. I’m happy for them.

  34. MarissaOnFLY: Just talked about @KrisAllen on the radio how much I dig his cd..not lying, things been in my car for months on repeat. Nicely done Mr Idol.

From twitter, nice to see a dj liking an album. :D

  35. saga no need to worry about the wwfm spin update today, he always does better during the week and not so good on the weekends bc OHP will play him 2-3 times one weekend then none the next weekend, which gives around a negative 60 spins, so its bc of OHP that the update wasnt so good

  36. RT @8112studios: just wrapped an awesome photoshoot w/ Adam Lambert in NYC @douglassonders?. Photos to come soon!

  37. It looks like Kelly is going to get another single. Long shot seems to be getting Adds on Radio. Now maybe I am wrong but has anyone else heard this…Kirsten I turn to you.

Also It looks like Rhianna also has a new single that is being pushed. Rude Boy. Is that normal. I thought Hard was still climbing why would they put a 3 single in the mix. Just asking.

It makes me wonder why then have they not started pushing Kris’s next single at this point.

I get so confused sometimes. I don’t understand the thought process of when singles get pushed and when they don’t. Just when I think I figure it out….I don’t..Thank god for Kirsten and the rest of you who help me try to understand the not so exact science of Radio and single play.

  38. Jive can be funny about second singles. But I’m positive Kris will get one. Maybe it’ll coincide with his appearance on Idol?

LLWD is not such a monster hit that radio will immediately accept a 2nd Kris Allen song. Jive has to decide what will work because if it flops I kinda doubt he’ll get a third.

Kelly has been tweeting she’ll release another single but they haven’t decided which one, what I know, bu I don’t think it’s the one you mentioned.

Rihanna is releasing Rude Boy, yes. Hard is dropping like a stone on the chart right now.

  40. Long Shot seems to be getting spins in Canada but Kelly tweeted that her next single “began with an I and ended with a U”(If I Can’t Have You or I Want You). Then Kelly tweeted again saying that “they might be going with All I Ever Wanted” but nothing has official been announced.

  41. I think Jive is waiting until LLWD goes platinum before it releases a 2nd single. Especially since LLWD is still (slowly) moving up the charts. I wonder why 19 is taking so long to set up tour dates though…David Cook started his tour in January or February last year, didn’t he? When did Archie go out on tour? How about Jordin the year she won…when did she go out on tour? It seems like 19 is taking way too long to get Adam and Kris out on an actual tour, instead setting up scattered dates here and there. Hopefully they have an actual plan for these guys, but the waiting is very frustrating.

  42. There were some Spring Flings(?) mentioned for Kris (at least one), I wonder if these will coincide with his next single? This would make some sense, since there is no guarantee that it will take off. From what I understand these are similar to the Jingle Balls, except for Spring Break.

I can really be patient with the touring if he is still working hard on becoming a more established artist. This is not to say that I don’t REALLY, REALLY want to see him live!

  43. I’m also wondering why there is a delay in setting up US tour dates, but it’s for all of the S8 IDOLS signed by 19E. Danny has just recently set up something and will be touring soon with Sugarland – that’s great. Kris did a mini tour in Asia, which seemed to be very successful. They need to be able to promote their US tours when they appear on IDOL.

  44. David Cook started his tour in January or February last year, didn’t he?

The Neverending Declaration Tour started one year ago Saturday, Girlygirl, on February 13th, soon after David and the Boyz returned from the USO trip that started Jan 19th.

    I can find David A’s stats, but I don’t have them handy…I just don’t think there’s a parallel.

It’s pretty clear that different artists have different paths, although of course their fans are impatient for a tour they can attend.

  45. Danny has just recently set up something and will be touring soon with Sugarland – that’s great.

Danny finally confirmed it, but pretty sure his tour plans were being mapped out sometime last year. He’s been teasing for ages about a “major tour” coming up starting in April. And last month a radio DJ had a peek at what it was and was telling listeners they’d be “thrilled” with the package once news came out. ( Sort of like his record deal last summer, that Danny seemed to know all about but couldn’t announce for ages while he kept teasing his fans. Heh. )

Hopefully plans for the others have been ongoing in a similar way, just not made public yet. In Danny’s case, his confirmation came a few days after the first press release from Sugarland’s camp announcing their 2010 headlining tour. If Kris or Adam or Allison are touring with another act, they may have a similar protocol question to let the lead act go first in announcing tour plans. On top of any other timing factors based on Kris, Adam, Allison’s own considerations.

  46. I almost think what we’re seeing here is the whole country music business vs. the rest of the music business. They almost seem like family to me, compared to competition we see in the rest of the industry. IDK. Just an observation. Country music overall seems to be selling much better than other music as well.

  47. cookcricket-

there was a study (and i dont have the link) that country music has been selling better than any other genre right now bc 40% of country music fans supposedly dont know how to work a computer and pirate music (i totally believe it)

  48. Q3-

someone said that u might have heard touring info about adam headlining a small tour. is this true? i really hope not. Boo for that type of tour. He needs to expand his fanbase beyond the rabid one he has now…. The Idols that really succeeded all opened for someone. Danny gets to open for Sugarland. Just gonna be the same glammed up ladies. I was hoping for opportunities for new people to see him and change their preconceived notions.

  49. cookcricket-

there was a study (and i dont have the link) that country music has been selling better than any other genre right now bc 40% of country music fans supposedly dont know how to work a computer and pirate music (i totally believe it)

Awww, cakeygirl I find that hard to believe. I would like to see the link if you can find it and how they got that information. Maybe they’re just more honest in their music buying ethics overall. This didn’t even enter my mind before, but hey, it’s possible.

  50. I think that the Idols tour depending on whether or not it is perceived that they can sell out whatever the venues are. I would think that Adam, Kris, etc. would follow the ever-touring Davids who both worked non-stop from the Idol tour onward. I did look at a site that listed Archuleta’s tours and he had: a 23-city Solo Spring Tour from 2-24-09/3-27-09 that was almost totally sold out. Then he had 3 shows in Asia (including the massive 50,000+ sold out show with David Cook). Then from 4-24-09/5-10-09 he toured in Great Britain with McFly – 12 shows. Then Archuleta did a Summer tour with Demi Lovato for 45 shows from 6-21-09/8-28-09 (with 3 make-up shows 10-29/11-1-09. And finally from 11-30-09/12-21-09 Archie finished up with his solo Christmas From the Heart tour which was almost totally sold out – 16 shows. Wow – I am worn out. That is a ton of touring. Then, there were the sold out pre-show VIP’s at most concerts (with 50-100 people attending for $190.00/each).

  51. Awww, cakeygirl I find that hard to believe. I would like to see the link if you can find it and how they got that information. Maybe they’re just more honest in their music buying ethics overall. This didn’t even enter my mind before, but hey, it’s possible.

I’m not cakeygirl but I think this might be the study she means: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/14/AR2009061402241.html

NASHVILLE — As tens of thousands of country music fans made the annual pilgrimage here over the weekend for the summer rite known as the CMA Music Festival, recent news from the four-day event’s organizer, the Country Music Association, has left some executives on Music Row quaking in their cowboy boots.

With the Internet becoming an increasingly dominant way for fans to discover and purchase music, a survey of 7,500 people by the country music industry’s trade organization revealed a sobering fact: Only 50 percent of core country fans have Internet access at home. That statistic, released in March, is far below the national average. A 2008 survey by Nielsen Media Research found that 80 percent of all U.S. homes have a computer, and almost 92 percent of those homes have Internet access.

The article goes on to say 42% of those surveyed without home internet access have no interest in getting it, and there’s some discussions about the different ways country artists have delved into the online world.

Agreed. As much as I adore DC, I have no love for CBTM. In addition, Urban’s cover, for me, was mediocre at best.

  53. Parabola, that is very interesting. Thanks for the link. I kind of find it ironic that while the rest of the music industry is working hard on preventing free downloads from the internet, the country music industry is concerned about the lack of internet access.

    An interesting read. Thank you!
