Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Feb 16-22

Three milestones this week – one from a winner, one from a runner-up and one from second runner-ups.

Original Recipe Idol Winner (and the one who started out the current reality singing show success craze) Kelly Clarkson racks up another top 10 this week. “Heartbeat Song” is her debut single from her 7th studio album “Piece by Piece” (she’s also had a Greatest Hits album and 3 EPs). In an industry where many are washed up after one album and few young women last more than a decade (and few reality show winners produce one album let alone several), Kelly’s career has been, like her talent, remarkable. “Heartbeat Song” goes top 10 on AC this week and is in the top 15 in two formats and top 25 in three.

Olly Murs may not have one his show or had much success breaking into the US market, but he has definitely carved a career out for himself in the UK. Olly was the runner-up on the 6th season of the X-Factor UK franchise. His latest foray into the US market is “Wrapped Up” featuring Travie McCoy and it has gone top 40 on Top 40.

Also from the UK X-Factor and also not winning but getting success (this time worldwide) are the 5 lads from all-over. One Direction’s “Night Changes” is currently charting on the three mainstream charts and went top 30 on AC this week.
