Monday Morning Mediabase 12/13/2021

There are 4 milestones this week from some of most successful alumni.

Carrie Underwood is arguably the most successful singer to come out of the American Idol system (Kelly may be more successful overall due to her success as a judge on The Voice, talk show host and Wayfair designer). Her latest success is “Favourite Time of Year” which goes top 15 on AC this week. The single is from her “My Gift” album.

Arguably the most successful winner of The Voice is Jordan Smith. His debut album sold well and he continues to have success on Christian radio. His latest Christmas single, “O Come (Let us Adore)” has moved into the top 30 on CAC.

Chris Daughtry is arguably the most successful singer from Season 5 of the idol (though Katharine McPhee has had significant success in acting/singing on TV, in movies and on Broadway). His band with the same name as his last name became a staple on Active Rock (after a lot of initial success on Pop and HAC as rock was popular on mainstream formats at that time). “Changes are Coming” is their latest single and it went top 40 on Active Rock this week.

What is not open to debate is that the most successful singer to come out of The Voice system is Morgan Wallen. While primed for meteoritic success with the release of his latest album, he experienced a scandal that would have completely derailed a less popular artist. He was banned from radio, but his album continued in the top 10. Slowly, radio allowed him back, and now his “Sand in my Boots” is top 10. His album, “Dangerous: The Double Album” is 6th this week on the BB200 with 48K in equivalent albums (+6%).
