Kelly Clarkson to Appear on Blake Shelton’s Christmas Album

Not only will Blake Shelton sing a re-worked “Home” with his Voice adviser, Micheal Buble, duet with pal Reba McIntyre and croon a tune he co-wrote with his mother on his upcoming Christmas album, aptly titled. Cheers it’s Christmas, but he’ll also sing a tune with Kelly Clarkson.

“I wanted to record ‘There’s a New Kid In Town,’ which was co-written by Keith Whitley, and has been recorded by Alan Jackson and others,” said Blake, “So I asked Kelly Clarkson to sing on it, and she says, ‘I don’t know that song,’ and I realized it’s a country Christmas song.”

In addition, Blake will duet with wife, Miranda Lambert on “Jingle Bell Rock” and his wife’s girl group. Pistol Annies will “Blue Christmas.”  Blake admits, “I tried to channel my best Elvis!”

Cheers it’s Christmas is set to be released October 2.

  1. In another article Blake mentioned his Voice contestant Xenia also recorded for this album.

So I ended up doing my entire Christmas album standing in this room on that stage.  Reba came over and did her song, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda, Xenia came here too.

That would be cool if he did a Christmas special with all of them! Reba, Kelly, Blake, and Miranda are a crazy, fun group.

  2. Keepin’ it all in the family! ;)  I was actually a little surprised when I was listening to this Countdown tonight and Blake said Kelly had recorded a song with him. I wasn’t expecting it especially after the press blurb went out a few weeks ago without a mention.

I wasn’t familiar with the song they recorded and I see there’s several different versions of it out there.  Should be a good one.  Here’s Alan Jackson and Keith Whitley singing it:

Not on the topic of the song but still Blake and Kelly, he was asked specifically about Kelly during one of the interview segments.  He says he loves her, she’s like family and would do anything for her.  He also likens her to Eddie Rabbitt and Olivia Newton John in that they were able to cross genres and calls her “country music’s cousin.”  He also hopes she eventually records a true country album and not countrified versions of her pop songs.
