Katy Perry Picks Her Idol Favorites, Drops Sensuous ‘Daisies’ Music Video

Katy Perry will perform her new single “Daisy” on the American Idol finale this Sunday (May 17). The singer and judge also dropped a body baring new music video for the tune, which is a track on her upcoming album due August 14.

Katy Reveals Her Two Favorite American Idol Contestants

“If I can be completely honest about my favorites, Jonny West and Julia Gargano,” Katy told ABC News. “Those are my picks. But it’s up to America to vote for who they want…it could easily be Francisco [Martin] or it could be Louis Knight, or Arthur [Gunn]. We’ll see!”

Katy Filmed the “Daisies” American Idol Performance using “incredible new” technology

Her performance of “Daisies” on American Idol will be her “very first big performance” of the song, she told Variety, “I just filmed it the other day on this incredible new technology; it’s augmented reality and virtual reality on a green screen,” adding that “Someone set it up for me, I went in there, I filmed it, and then I left.”

Filming videos is a DIY affair: “It was wild, I’m doing so many jobs now, I’m the stylist, I’m the make-up artist, I’m the hair stylist – it reminds me of actually when my career was just starting, that’s what you have to do. (…) I’m glad I did it one time before so I know what to do.”

What inspired Daisies?

“I wrote this song a couple months ago as a call to remain true to the course you’ve set for yourself, regardless of what others may think,” Katy wrote on Facebook about the inspiration for “Daisies.”  She wrote: “Recently, it has taken a new meaning for me, in light of what the whole world is experiencing. Each of us is one in more than seven billion, with our own story of strength and resilience to tell. ?DAISIES? is out now. I hope it will be the soundtrack to going for your dreams now… especially the ones we left behind.”
